  • Unable to start Java Function Activity Agent

    When I try to start the Java Function Activity Agent
    I get the following message:
    Workflow JAVA Execution Agent
    Oracle Workflow 2.6.0 JAVA Function Activity Agent
    Error in parameters
    Is there any way to tell what parameters it is referring to?
    Thanks, Tom

    Just to clarify:
    The Oracle Workflow Java Function Activity Agent is supported by Oracle for the Database and Application Server releases. It was not certified for Oracle E-Business Suite customers, as we thought it better to focus our efforts on the Oracle Workflow J2EE Engine. In the next standalone releases, we will be provinding better system management for the Java Function Activity Agent, on demand processes, that sort of thing.
    We did a lot of work to make sure that messages do not get lost ie. if an unexpected error is encountered, the transaction will get rolled back and the message will go back on the queue. If you are finding messages get lost, there are 2 possibilities: a bug in your code (ie. the transaction was committed in your code, so roll back would not help), or a bug in our code (a reproducible test case would be helpful).
    Cheers

  • What's Java Function Activity Agent?it's wfapi.jar?

    pls explain the words below,tks a lot:
    You must include the JAR files containing your custom classes in your
    CLASSPATH to make the classes accessible to the Java Function
    Activity Agent. The custom class files should reside on the same
    platform where the Java Function Activity Agent is run. The Java
    Function Activity Agent does not need to reside on the same tier as the
    database, however.

  • Java function activity getting deferred

    Hi
    I have created a simple Java Class File which set values to the item type attributes and return.
    Placed the class file in jdk/bin folder.
    Then i associated the class name to a function activity as “External Java” type. When i launched this process that function activity is moved to deferred state.
    When i checked the WF_OUTBOUND_TABLE all the java related activities which i executed are still in the Queue.
    And I tried by giving a wrong class name to a function, which is not at all in the server. That process activity also moved to deferred state without showing error.
    So Java Function activity agent not even picks that function/class to process.
    I tried the standard workflow provided by Oracle Workflow Standalone Server for demonstration. For that also same thing is happening (moving to deferred state).
    Your help is much appreciated
    Regards
    Ariv

    Hi,
    Are you running the external processor for Java? IIRC, it's a .bat script which does the dequeue for you, calls your code, and then puts a message on the inbound queue - but it's been a LONG time since I looked at working with Java in standalone workflow.

    The Java Function Activity Agent is not certified for Oracle Workflow embedded in Oracle Applications. • External Java Function with a Result Type

    Dear all,
    I have created a workflow process which use a Function Activity of type "External Java" without a result type and it works fine, but i have created another with the result type of boolean (WFSTD_BOOLEAN) and it doesn't work properly. I will explain what is happening.
    I start a process and it stops in that function activity, then the oracle Function Activity Agent executes the class associated to that function and it works fine. Then i review the workflow process and check that the status of the activity is "Deferred". I execute the wf_engine.background process, and then the status of the activity is "Complete" but the result field is blank, thus the process is stopped and did not go through the "True" branch of the process. I have follow the Oracle Workflow and Java Technical White Paper to build the class associated to the function activity, and i return true in the execute method and don't put anything in the errorStack variable.
    The documentation says:
    resultOut If a result type is specified in the Activities properties page for the activity in the Oracle Workflow Builder, this parameter represents the expected result that is returned when the procedure completes.
    Note: Unlike the resultout for a PL/SQL procedure called by a function activity, the resultOut for a Java procedure does not include a status code. In the Java API, only the result type value is required. The status of the activity will be set automatically by the Workflow Engine depending on whether there is a value in the errorStack variable.
    am I doing something wrong? could anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Allison,
    I've found the solution to the problem. If i set the variable resultOut to "T" or "F" before finnishing the execute method it works.
    I think that you have to set the variable resultOut with the internal value of the lookup type that you are using as the result type of the function activity.
    Bye!

  • Is Function Activity execution synchronous/asynchronous?

    Hi,
    I would like to know the mode of execution of Function activity, that is whether it is synchronous/asynchronous?
    Suppose if I have 2 activities in a process, one is of type PL/SQL and another is of type External Java. When I start the process from a java program, when will the calling program get the control back? will the exceution of each activity is synchronous or asynchronous?
    thanks in advance
    Regards
    honnur

    Thanx for the reply.
    I find that if the function activity is of type PL/SQL then the calling function(WF Engine) waits till the PL/SQL procedure/function exection is complete. But if the function activity is of type External Java then the calling function(WF Engine) does not wait until the Java function execution is complete. In this case, when External Java Agent finishes the function excution, we have to explicitely invoke background process to complete that activity.
    So the Java function activity execution is asynchronous from calling function perspective.
    is my understanding right??
    TIA
    honnur

  • Problem calling a EJB Java Client from Java Activity Agent

    Hi,
    We have a wrapper java class that calls to an EJB through a JNDI lookup. The wrapper class is called from a workflow. The problem is that the call fail with the following message error:
    Error : getRemoteHome Lugar: ServiceLocator NamingException Mensaje Error: Receive timed out
    Mon Jan 09 15:32:13 EST 2006 Enqueuing VIC/97513 com.tallion.tax.workflow.assessment.Update

    The wrapper class has in their classpath a jndi.properties as follows:
    java.naming.factory.initial=org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
    java.naming.provider.url=69.0.137.120:1099
    java.naming.factory.url.pkgs=org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces
    The call just works fine when we restart the Java Activity Agent and then, after a while it fails again with the same error.
    Any ideas/workaround?
    Thanks.

    I have a situation that is a bit similar. I have successfully used beans for storing methods used in JSPs and used by other methods in the same class as was suggested above. Now I would like to break some methods into another (utility) class since they are lower level and can be used by lots of things. They are for database operations (given a String query and String dbname, it queries and returns ResultSet for example). I want to have them in a separate class for reusability and OOP.
    I am having problems calling those public static methods in the public class from my bean that communicates with the JSP. I can't compile the class that calls the method in the database ops class. I get an error like :
    loginHelper.java:45: cannot find symbol
    symbol : variable sqlHelper
    location: class dbHelperBean.loginHelper
    and when I include the package name in the call I get
    loginHelper.java:45: cannot find symbol
    symbol : class sqlHelper
    location: package dbHelperBean
    That's strange since the package of both classes is dbHelperBean and the class is indeed called sqlHelper. I tried to compile it in the same directory as sqlHelper as well. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Fast return from Java Activity Agent

    Hello,
    long ago I had defined some workflows using the Java Activity Agent. But now I have to create a new flow with a lot of very short activities, and I want to return control to the workflow engine as fast as possible when they complete, without waiting for the next call to background processing. Is there any known best practice to achieve this? I have tried to enqueue calls to the background engine in my java classes, but this doesn't seem a solution.
    Thank you in advance,
    Antonio

    Hello,
    I didn't post my solution because it's very hackish, though it has dramatically improved my execution time.
    But to answer your curiosity...
    I have added a listener to the inbound queue, thus replacing the loop to call the background engine with calls synchronized with inbound messages. Additionally I call the background engine every 30 seconds, just in case, and so that the loop exit condition is checked.
    So, here's my basic listener/background handler:
    DECLARE
            q_agent sys.aq$_agent;
            wf_agent sys.aq$_agent := sys.aq$_agent(NULL,'OWF_MGR.WF_INBOUND_QUEUE',0);
            v_tab_agents DBMS_AQ.aq$_agent_list_t;
    BEGIN
            v_tab_agents(1) := wf_agent;
           WHILE( < ANY CONDITION TO STOP PROCESSING ... > ) LOOP
             dbms_aq.listen(
             agent_list => v_tab_agents,
             WAIT => 30, /* in seconds, may be   DBMS_AQ.FOREVER */
             agent => q_agent
             owf_mgr.wf_engine.background;
         --    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Date: ' || TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'yyyy/mm/dd hh24:mi:ss' );
              END LOOP;
    END;
    /Antonio
