Java Gone Entirely?

Sorry if I'm not posting this under the correct discussion, but I wasn't sure where to put it?
I'm afraid that somehow my Java might be missing completely?
When I got to Applications~Utilities~Java~ shouldn't there be a version of Java in that folder?
I only have 3 things there, Input Method Hotkey, Java Preferences, and Java Web Start. If I click on Java Web Start, I get an error message that says "Could not launch application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed."
When I go to the Java Test page, nothing works. It appears I don't have Java.
When I do an Apple Software Update, it says everything is up-to-date though?
But then when I manually downloaded and tried to install 1.6.0_05 Java Update for Java SE 6, it said was successful - so I would think that means I DO have Java somewhere?
I'm sure the problem is probably me just being confused and clueless, but then I don't know why the Java test page isn't working?
I appreciate any help?
Thanks

Ok, I decided to try to re-install Java AGAIN with Pacifist and the OS X disk, making sure I 'replaced' everything, ran repair permissions, installed the Update 2 for Jave (dated Sept. 24, 2008 I think), repaired permissions again, and NOW I am able to open the Java Preferences App - it says the applet and application versions that I have are:
J2SE 5.0 32-bit
Java SE 6 64-bit
J2SE 5.0 64-bit
J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit
And I haven't selected or deselected anything, but under the 'Advanced' tab there is nothing selected for 'Debugging',
'Java Console' has 'Do not start console' selected,
'Shortcut Creation' has 'Prompt user if hinted' selected, and
'Security' has everything selected EXCEPT 'show site certification from server even if it is valid', 'check publisher certificate for revocation', 'enable online certificate validation', and 'use ssl 2.0 compatible clienthello format'.
Whew - does that help??

  • Java gone wonky!!

    Hi,
I've tried out one of the lastest hint from MacWorld which you can globally expand or shrink the application GUI, using the following command.
    defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleDisplayScaleFactor .75
But after I've played with it and set it back to 1, my NetBeans (java) IDE has gone wonky. The text are overlayed, the tree arrow does not display, scrollbar missing, weird font etc... Apparently someone else is experiencing similar problem with another java application.
I just tried emptying /library/cache and ~/library cache and fix permission using disk utilities and restarting many times. But my java IDE is still wonky.... =(
Help me restore my Java environment please.....

  • Before 8.3 update when I saved photos they were added to my camera roll. Then I could access the photo I wanted from any app. Now when I SAVE a photo it is not added to the camera roll at all. iCloud photo is on. AND my Photo Stream is GONE entirely.

Hi all.  Since updating my iphone 6 a couple days ago, I have discovered awful glitches in photos. When I save photos they do not get added to my camera roll. My Camera Roll and Photo Stream used to match.  I would take a photo on the camera and I would see it on my photo stream.  Yesterday, I added an edited photo to my camera roll by saving it (I thought).  But it was not there.  In the past, if I wanted a photo to post in any app, from Twitter to Facebook to Yelp, in order to retrieve it easily (if I had a lot of photos on my phone) I would sometimes text it to myself and then save it. It would be added to my camera roll. Then, when any app asked me to upload a photo, I could find it right at the beginning of my camera roll photos.  Now, when I save a photo it does not appear on my camera roll.  I discovered this yesterday when posting a Yelp review.  I found the photo I wanted to use on my camera roll and it was way back at the beginning of the camera roll.  I edited the photo.  I saved it. It did not get added to my camera roll.  So then I looked for the photo on the camera roll where I had originally found it way back at the beginning.  The edited version of the photo was gone.  Could not find my photo to upload to Yelp.  Then I discovered it was the same with every other app on the phone.
PHOTO STREAM DISAPPEARED!   This was my main problem and primary question until I tried to resolve the issue. I saw a message on my phone that said (I thought) that I needed to connect my phone to my laptop to restore icloud backups.   So I manually connected my phone to my Mac Pro Laptop (2011)  and backed up my photos.  I made sure iCloud was turned on for photos.  I have it set to Download and Keep Originals.  It is also set to Upload to My Photo Stream. And iCloud sharing is turned on.
WHEN I connected my phone to my computer I got a message on my phone about setting it up for personal hotspot and it would not complete the update unless I replied.  At first i did set it up, but it seemed to be an issue, so I simply let my phone and computer use my home wifi network.  I don't need the personal hotspot, but it seemed to affect the photo issue further.
Now where I used to see Photo Stream and Camera Roll, it simply says All Photos.  I am extremely confused.  This is a mess.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I restored it twice, once from icloud backup and then from my computer back up. I just restored again and set it up as a new iphone and now my photos are saving again. I was then able to sync apps and music from my itunes to my phone... So happy you wouldn't believe!!

  • Onboard HDMI half-works, then gone entirely on new build

    Hello,
I built a system today with these specs:
Mobo: MSI 785GM-E65 (AMD 785G chipset)
    GPU: (Integrated) Radeon HD 4200
    CPU: Phenom II X2 550 Black 3.1ghz w/ Stock Heatsink-Fan
    RAM: 6GB DDR3 1333 PC10600, Crucial Micron
    Case: MicroATX w/ Antec 550W ATX PSU & 80mm Fan & 60mm Fan
    OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
    HDD: Western Digital 80GB ATA100/IDE
Peripherals: GIGABYTE AirCruiser G PCI Adapter, ASUS Internal CD-RW, Samsung External DVD-RW, PS/2 Keyboard, USB Mouse
    Monitor: Westinghouse 19" HDTV #SK-19H210S
To summarize, my first problem was HDMI video- and audio- output instability(read below for description) but this has been superceded by a new second problem -- not getting any HDMI output at all!
As soon as I completed the build, I connected my chip's HDMI-out to my HDTV. The system POST'd successfully to HDMI video out and I was able to install Windows without a hitch.
From the start, there was video instability. The display would go black for an instant and immediately re-appear. HDMI audio crackled on any UAC (User Account Contol) prompts and any fullscreen events like maximizing/minimizing from a fullscreen app/game. (The crackle was only for a split second and sounded like the noise you might get from any speaker if you yanked the audio input source out when it was on higher volume.) The display black-outs improved upon driver updates(though I only used the system for an hour or so, so possibly not sufficient sample to be representative). The audio crackling on UAC/fullscreen events remained.
Apart from the crackling noises on UAC and fullscreen events, audio sounded fine. It played any of the Sample Music tracks included with Win 7 great and clear...
To troubleshoot the video/audio issues, I swapped the HDMI cable connection for a VGA cable and Speaker analog cable. This worked perfect--no issues. So the video card and sound controller seemed to be functional--it was an HDMI port issue...
I swapped the VGA cable and Speaker analog cable back to HDMI ... and the HDMI video output would no longer work. Stranger still, HDMI video output will not even appear for the POST, let alone Windows 7.
I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the OEM disc drivers, the AMD-ATI website's latest drivers, the MSI(chipset manuf.) website's latest drivers ... no dice. I have booted and played with all combinations of HDMI/VGA cable sequences(leaving both plugged, HDMI plugged while booting and changing later, just lots of weird stuff that didn't accomplish anything).
The HDMI cable and HDTV work. I can successfully connect my laptop's HDMI out(Nv9300GS card) to the HDTV and display fine.
I am now running multiple displays and I have connected my VGA to an old CRT monitor(works), and the HDMI to the same HDTV. The VGA/CRT display works. The HDTV display is not detected whatsoever, and the ATI HDMI Audio Controller device is "unplugged" in the Select Audio Output dialog ...
I have now formatted and re-installed Windows 7 with this same VGA->CRT monitor and HDMI->HDTV multiple displays setup... and it still only detects and uses the VGA->CRT monitor.
Please advise... how I may troubleshoot and resolve these problems. I would like to get HDMI working on this system again, and also resolve the audio crackling issue.
I plan to flash the BIOS tomorrow (eek) from 2.1 to 2.3 after I borrow a friend's USB flash drive, though there doesn't seem to be anything in the changelog for those versions that sounds like it will help.

    Have you tried W7 32bit?
    I only have a 64bit license / disc for Windows 7.

    2 possible causes :
    1) irregular blinking - try to disable TMM (Transient Multi-Monitor Manager) task : http://www.tomstricks.com/how-to-disable-or-enable-the-transient-multimon-manager-tmm-in-windows-vista/
    2) if videocard doesn't see the TV, then it's usually the worst thing which can happen to a display device - EDID of the device got damaged. Try to change the cable, if it doesn't work then try to check the TV through another HDMI device (see if it works). If not, then you have a problem...
That appears to be a Vista task or a task unique to laptops?  I couldn't find it on my desktop Windows 7 system.
HDMI cable and HDTV work with a different system(Asus N10 laptop with Nvidia 9300GS HDMI out).
HDMI out has worked *once* randomly since posting my original post here.  Yesterday morning I booted up the PC with both VGA and HDMI out connected to my HDTV -- and surprisingly, Windows 7 loaded with HDMI out configured for a Main display and VGA out configured for the Extended display.  I restarted and the HDMI crapped out again--only working with VGA as before.  I haven't been able to duplicate this... but it must mean the EDID isn't dead?

    Is this relevant:

Meaning, it might actually be the monitor, Westinghouse, that has a problem. ...There are actually caps that might leak in them, too.  Wink
It's possible... but I am not certain as HDMI in works from a different system(my laptop).
I just finished flashing BIOS and re-formatting and re-installing Windows 7 and all drivers...  Problem persists- VGA out works great, and HDMI out does not detect anything.
Any ideas?  I do have a PCI-E 2.0 16x port to upgrade to a new dedicated video card with a new HDMI out port, but I'm postponing that purchase until I need more GPU power.  (Also: My monitor is still under warranty...)

  • Front row gone entirely?

I just tried to start up Front Row with my remote. Nothing. My remote still controls iTunes, so it is communicating properly. I tried to find it with Spotlight for a manual start, but nothing turns up. System/Library/Core Services/ reveals only a script that does nothing when double-clicked.
What gives? I have not done anything out of the ordinary, and Front Row worked fine a week ago.

    Try using command+esc.

  • Can't play voicemail and now it's gone entirely

For some time, I've been unable to play my voicemails on my iPhone 4S. Depite tapping on the play button on the left side, nothing ever happened. Now, tapping on the Voicemail tab routes me to Sprint's audio voicemail system so I don't even get a visual voicemail listing.
Anyone else having the problem? Any fixes out there?
    TIA,
    David

I had the visual voicemail problem that many Sprint customers are having: no notification of receiving a voicemail.  I tried numerous "fixes"  found on various forums (##update#, resetting network preferences, full restore of iPhone firmware, deleting phone icon etc.) to no avail.  Finally called Sprint Customer Care, and after having them delete the voicemail service from my account and doing a service update and then adding voicemail back to my account - everything now seems to work fine....for now....do I sound skeptical<?>....(I see voicemail notification, and have access to visual voicemail).

  • Firefox will not load Java in Linux - even after following all instructions on net I can find - what am I doing wrong??

The problem I've got is I'm currently running Puppy Linux on my laptop.
Now I've tried everything I can to get Java working under either Firefox, Chromium or Seamonkey (I have all three browsers on my computer).
For firefox and seamonkey I have tried the following -
downloaded the tar.gz file for java
    unpacked it to /opt/java
gone to /user/lib/mozilla/plugins and run the command
    ln -s /opt/java/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
to create the symbolic link to the plugin
checked that the plugin is executable (actually even tried giving everything full permission to read/write and execute it)
For Chromium done a similar thing but put the symbolic link in /usr/lib/chrome-linux/plugins folder instead.
Restarted the web browser, even tried restarting X Server in case the browser is running somewhere in the background.
All three browsers can pick up all the other .so plugins in that folder except Java.
When I click check plugins on firefox I get to the page about "Missing Java? - For your safety Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version".
However the version I've downloaded is Version 7 Update 9 which is exactly the same one that is available as the latest version from Java themselves (it was only downloaded from that link a couple of minutes before, I've even tried re-downloading it just in case there has been an update within those 5 minutes).
If I go into the Java folder and run ControlPanel the Java control panel pops up and it knows where Java is installed and everything.
So what on earth is going on? Am I installing the plugin in the right directory? I'm guessing so as that is where all the other plugins are stored and Firefox, Chrome and Seamonkey are picking all the others up fine, or could there be an older version of Java lurking around somewhere on my system that Firefox, Seamonkey and Chrome are all trying to use?
I've also tried downloading the RPM and installing that into the /usr/java folder and replacing the symlink from /opt/java to the one in the /usr/java folder and still nothing.
I just really can't understand it 'cos it's picking up all the other plugins like Gecko and even installed Flash in the same way and that works fine.

Thanks cor-el looks like Oracle need to update their linux installation instructions then. If only I'd have known that before doing all sorts to get it working.
    I now have Java in Firefox, Chrome and Seamonkey :) :) :) :) :).

  • Help!  JAVA is closing my web browsers

I recently had to reinstall everything when my C: drive crashed and now, after installing the latest version of JAVA, whenever I go to a site that uses JAVA applets (such as pogo.com) when the web browser tries to open java the entire browser is closed. How do I get JAVA to stop closing my web browsers? This is getting very frustrating!

  • Import and Move Gone Wrong

I accidentally imported and moved all my image files from my desktop into one file in lightroom. These images came from a bunch of different files. I need to undo this import and get them back to their original places on my desktop. Please Help!I

I haven’t heard of LR deleting files during a move-import, though if you have more than one catalog and the photos are in multiple catalogs, then they will be missing from the first catalog if you do a move-import using the second catalog, but they shouldn’t be gone, entirely.
Since you’ve searched your hard-drive I’d say they are gone, unless there is somewhere that your search didn’t look.
Is the D: drive something other than a second internal drive, like a NAS or network drive?

  • How i load java class through javascript

    Hi,
i want to load java class file at client side through the java script. Class file wich already at client side(client machine)
    tell me is it possible....
    thanks
    plzz mail
    [email protected]

From your post it is not very clear what you want to do.
    1. Even if it was possible to load client classes using javascript, how on earth are you going to execute them ??? JavaScript and java are entirely different cups of tea.
    2. If it was an applet, then probably you can access some classes from the client machine. Definely the default packages. However, I don't know whether you can access other classes. That might lead to a security issue. Please check with a java securities expart.
    3. Loading a class from the client machine is DEFINITELY A BAD PROGRAMMING PRACTICE Use the codebase property on your applet tag to load the classes from the server.

  • OSS sound gone after upgrade.

Does any of the following updates concern sound?
I'm asking because the sound has stopped working. I did an upgrade and rebooted. Then the sound started to drop out from time to time. There was sound for a while. Then the sound went away for a second or two and came back for a while. When I rebooted it took a few minutes before the sound started working. In the end the sound was gone entirely.
I was using OSS4. Switched Alsa, but no luck. Have not been able to get the sound back again. Have been running OSS4 for several months without any problems. The sound is sent from the computer to the receiver through an optical cable.

  • Flex2 and SEO help

    Hi
I'm rather new to Flex2 and I had a general question about
search engine words like what you'd find within the meta tags of a
static HTML page. Seeing is it that the output is a giant .swf file
for clients, how does one address the issue of their site being
available for search engines, or is it even possible?
    Thanks

First I want to say Shame on you Adobe for not addressing
    this subject outright.
I am a java gone flash some 5 years ago and now am making the
    switch to flex/flash.
What I say now is only what data I have been able to collect
the past two weeks on this subject and should only be used as a
    reference.
If you build an entire website out of flash a search engine
cannot crawl a .swf file. Are there ways around it, yes there are.
    http://labs.blitzagency.com/?p=171
but the time and effort is tremendous for a small team or one
    person.
Flex does answer the back button issue with historyManager
class. but to fully exploit it you need to program a bit more
depending on how complicated a site you build.
From what I gather you are building a site entirley in flash
which is OK but you need to grow beyond this to whats known as a
MVC architecture which basically means separate out your content
from your view and store it either in flat files or in a database.
This opens up the opportunity to point the search engines to
    this data.
    see
    http://www.onflex.org/ted/2007/08/flex-directory-seo-and-flex.php
    http://blog.deconcept.com/2006/03/13/modern-approach-flash-seo/
This is a complicated subject and one not taken on lightly.
Is it possible, absolutely. However you need to think before
you build. separate out your content. point the incoming requests
to what there looking for...read and understand the mvc
architecture. If you have worked in flex you already know that in
the eclipse environment you are producing mxml documents.
perhaps these will be indexable as well??
im still working on the problem myself and am curious where
    this goes.
    Hope this helps

  • Frustratingly Low Broadband Speed

    Hi
I had been with Demon ISP for 9 years and decided i'd had enough of their monthly capping. Furthermore, I could never seem to get any decent throughput download speeds despite having good sync speed from the modem to the exchange.
I elected to go with BT as I naively believed that if I had a problem with my phone line that was affecting the BB connection, it would be easier to solve as they would be a "one stop shop".
Well, after around 4 weeks with BT I'm no better off for speed.
I have a Home Hub 3 and despite letting the system settle-in for 10 days the sync speed is showing circa 8Mb/s however I'm clocking no more that 1.7Mb/s no matter what I try.
From the outset I've had the router plugged direct into the master test socket with no more than one telephone connected (and disconnected that phone on tests too) - and have used both fresh microfilters supplied by BT too.
I have opened three fault cases with BT's help line and despite the operative agreeing there is something not right, the fault gets logged, and then a few days later gets closed.
The BT help also carried out a phone line test and they said there was something amiss - again the fault went on my log and now it's gone entirely.
I have a feeling (due to something an engineer once said to me when we had a total phone line outage a few years ago) that some of the copper lines from the exchange aren't great but I can't be sure.
Here's the modem stats and yes I have just reset it within the last hour..........
I would be very grateful for some insight please.

    1. Best Effort Test:
    Download Speed : 1.68Mbps
Your speed test has completed and the results are shown above, however during the test an error occurred while trying to retrieve additional details regarding your service. As a result we are unable to determine if the speed you received during the test is acceptable for your service. Please re-run the test if you require this additional information.
Which is around the same speed as i've been getting all along.
Oh and i've tried three different PCs running different OS, and some with fresh Java installs, and this makes negligible difference, and in all cases the error (as described above) is always reported - My IP profile never displays.

  • Scheduled report name

    Hi,
We have made a custom report for UCCX8.5, which we'd like to schedule. This report can only show the details of one CSQ, by selecting a CSQ filter. Because of this we'll need to schedule a new task for every CSQ. Here the issue arises: when I look at the scheduled reports overview, all reports have the same name: The name of the report. This makes it impossible to see which scheduled report is which. So it'll be really hard to delete or add one later.
Is there a way to change the name of the scheduled report task?
    Regards,
    Ruud van Strijp

This is one of a few scheduler-related limitations of the HRC. Another is that the machine running the client must be running and actively logged in for the system tray-based (i.e. not a windows service) scheduler app to trigger.
My advise on this one is to upgrade to the latest 9.0 build where you can switch from the legacy HRC client to the new Unified Intelligence Center (CUIC) reporting engine. This is a browser-based UI and was ported over from UCCE so now both products have the same reporting engine. As luck would have it, you can name the schedule when you create it with CUIC:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/intelligence_suite/intelligence_suite_902/user/guide/CUIC_BK_R4B100EB_00_reporting-app-user-guide-902_chapter_01000.html
With that said, you'll have to redo your custom report by spinning up a lab instance of CUIC Premium (not bundled with CCX) so you can create the report definition. Once you have that, you can import it into the embedded CUIC Standard instance on CCX and be good to go. The SQL stored procedure process remains unchanged.
In case you're inclined to dismiss this advice, note that HRC is EoL. In 9.0 you can pick one or the other but it's gone entirely in 10.0; CUIC only. So, it's only a matter of time before you have to cross this bridge anyways.

  • Help needed urgently with two major Logic 9 issues

    Dear all,
We've recently migrated from Logic 7 to 9 and have a major album project to finish using a fairly modest tracking setup. We've encountered two major issues that are holding up progress and wondered if anyone here has experienced them and has a solution..?
Our set up is an early 2009 2.93GHz 17" unibody Macbook Pro with a Motu 828mkII Firewire interface. We also have a motu microlite for extra midi.
Firstly, we're trying to track drums from an Elektron MachineDrum. With Logic 7 the MachineDrum's transport controls would control Logic's transport automatically so that we had a clear sync when tracking and could edit sounds and patterns on plus control Logic's transport from the MachineDrum. It also meant that we could drop in parts from song based sequences (of multiple patterns) in the correct position as song pointer information was also received. In the midi synch settings it would automayically jump to "midi clock". In Logic 9 it seems the Midi clock option is gone entirely.
We've also tried with an Elektron MonoMachine and have exactly the same problem. This all worked automatically in Logic 7. These machines have excellent sequencers and are very hands on so it makes it preferable to do it this way. We've spent the afternoon trying to replicate the behaviour of Logic 7 with no joy at all. I should say that Logic is receiving midi information but is not responding to the transport controls. Has this midi clock feature been removed entirely..? It will be a huge disappointment if this vital functionality has been removed as it's crucial to the way we write, sequence and record.
    Does anyone have a solution..?
Secondly, there seems to be a major bug with Logic 9 and we frequently have to quit and reboot to overcome it. Namely, certain actions reduce the audio to metal machine noise/ digital breakup bearing no resemblance to what we've recorded. This includes opening two projects simultaneously, dragging any audio from the media bin to the arrange, editing a marker in the list window etc. This has happened about twenty times today doing some light work on a project. We also noticed this intermittently when doing some vocal tracking on Logic 8 at a friends studio.
Has anyone else experienced this? It's a nightmare and means we won't be able to use it reliably live either. Does anyone have a solution?
Many thanks for taking the time to consider this,

Having tried to sync Logic to my LinnDrum back in Logic 7, I can see why they removed it.
It was hideously catastrophic and caused me ages of grief, as the function only really makes sense for MIDI/trigger sequencing.
As I remember it works perfectly well with MIDI only, which is what it was designed for. I've synced Logic via MIDI from a second computer for 20-30 minutes with absolutely no sync problems or drift.
    yes, that worked fine.
But then turning around and trying to sync +something else+ to that recording.
Logic never could record tempo variation as a continuous stream, as an analogue tape machine would record a sync signal, so the stepping would inevitably lead to increasing loss of sync, loss of hair, and the desire to break things.
I eventually just set aside that function, with the intention if revisiting in a later, hopefully fixed, version.
And whaddaya know - they fixed it good.
