Java on a Mac
I just moved to using a Mac for development. According to what they told me, it was supposed to come with the J2EE SDK, but I can't find the AppServer. Do I have to download it separately? If not, where is it? (Off topic question that I will ask anyway:) Also, why isn't a Mac version of the JDK1.5.0 available from this site??
Thanks,
theAmerican
The J2EE SDK does not come bundled with OS X. You must install it separately. The easiest way of installing the Application Server on OS X is by installing the NetBeans 4.1/Application Server bundle (http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/download.php?type=4.1).
JDK 5.0 isn't available on java.sun.com because Apple is in charge of the OS X JDK/JRE. java.sun.com only lists the distributions produced by Sun. JDK 5 can be downloaded from Apple's site, and there are instructions available on the web for making 5.0 the default JRE (even after installing 5.0 on OS X, 1.4.2 is the default JRE unless you change it).

Running a Java Applet on Mac OS browser
I'm having trouble getting my Java Applet to work properly on the Mac OS version of IE5. Basicaly, the app fails to appear. Are there any do's and don'ts regarding the running of Java Applets on Mac Browsers?
I read somewhere that you can't send parameters through to the Applet. Is that true? I'm not trying to do this and it's still doesn't work.
Any help would be appreciated. If anyone can help me with this problem I would be greatful.

Hello.
First of all I am French so please excuse me for my English.
I tried to install Java on my MAC but unfortunately the download of the software always meets the same problem... It asks me to be under mac OS X 10.7 but my computer does not propose me update. What should i do ?
Thank youhttp://support.apple.com/kb/DL1360
Note: Java 1.6 for Leopard is 64 bit only, but for Snow Leopard it is available for both 32 and 64 bit.

Just read "Best of Macworld" article "How to disable Java on your Mac," in email dated 2/25/13. I'm a dinosaur running OS 10.4.11 and Java 1.5.0_19, which is earlier than the versions addressed in the article. Do I remove/isolate in the same manner? Will the effects of removal/isolation the same as described in the article?
Hello, if you're talking about disabling Java in say Safari...

I'm trying to download java on my Mac machine but the software update doesn't show me anything. Please advise what I should do to get the application.
If you can run it under chrome, you have java installed.
There was some malware that exploited an older version of Java (not javascript) running in a Browser. Since few people use it Apple turned off Java by default in the Safari Browser.
If you need it for something, just turn it back on in Safari preferences (inside Safari). After a few months of non-use, you may find it has turned itself off again. -
I heard there was a security breach in Java installed in Macs and that there is a patch to fix it, but that's all I know. Does anyone know how to fix it?
There isn't a patch for a computer running Leopard .
Leopard and earlier users see recommendations at: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3872491 -

How to launch java files on Mac OS
Hey! I got a question: how to wrap a java file into Mac OS executable file? Analog for Windows is exe4j . It creates a jre in a exe file , so a person dont need to install runtime env. So any way to do like that? I need to launch program on Mac OS without terminal & installed jre. Just double-click on icon. Thanx for response.

Yes. Always keep the default settings unless you have a specific reason not to.
If you are a heavy user of Java programs or applets, you may need to clear the cache files after Java updates because the old caches may interfere. -

How do I access Java on my Mac Pro so that I can make sure it's working so that we can view "watch instantly" on Netflix?
There are various browser scripts
1: Java (not needed much at all and highly advised to be turned off in Safari/Firefox preferences due to it's vulnerability)
2: Javascript (if off, needs to be turned on in Safari/Firefox preferences as it's used A LOT)
Note: If your using a NoScript type blocker, then you need to whitelist the site. Or drag a Temp Allow All button to Firefox's Toolbar.
3: Silverlight plug-in (needed for watching Netflix content, it's from Microsoft)
4: Flash (needed for watching a lot of web based content, but requires constant checks to make sure it's current as they have a lot of security issues)
Check your status here, works on all web browsers
