Java on mavericks

Hi,
I upgraded form OSX 1.8.5 to Mavericks, and it seems like Java is no longer working?
So I reinstalled the latest update 2013-005 from this page http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
It helped in so far that Illustrator CS6 works again. But websites with java applets won't work; not in Chrome nor in Safari (although the function is enabled in Safari's security settings). How do I make java applets work again in Mavericks? Is there an Apple Java update I missed?
Thanks

For running website java applets, you need to download
java directly from Oracle: http://www.java.com/en/.
It will be installed along side the Apple java and will only
affect web based applets.

  • Installed latest version of java on Mavericks. What next?

    I just installed the latest version of java on Mavericks. Where do I download a programming enviornment? Which one? Or can I work in java via terminal?
    Thanks!

    The latest version is 7.x.x. You can obtain the Java update for OS X from Oracle: Java SE Runtime Environment 7 1.7.0_60. There is also a version 8 runtime: Java SE Runtime Environment 8 1.8.05.13. I believe this is a beta release or even an alpha release.

    Have you downloaded and installed Java from java.com? Apple has wisely turned the support of Java for the Mac over to Oracle the owner of Java.

  • Help with uninstalling Java in Mavericks

    Hi All,  I am running OS X 10.9.1 on a Macbook Air.  I cannot seem to figure out how to uninstall Java.  It is running as a process, yet whenver I kill it, it restarts.  I would like to completely delete it but can't seem to figure out how.  There is no Java control panel or preference pane in system utilities.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Following the instructions at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml and moving JavaAppletPlugin.plugin to the trash and restarting, Java is still running according to Activity Monitor.
    2. Installing Java 7 again - still no control panel or preference pane in system utilities
    3. Searching library for everything java related and throwing it in the trash, restarting, still no luck.
    I'm pretty much out of ideas.   It's using a fair amount of CPU time and since I'm not running any apps that need it, I want it gone.
    Thanks in advance!

    I had an attempt but had some problems. I decided to use JBuilder's Design function and get to display my open --> file menu bar. The code is implemented but the bar doesn't show up.
    If I do it my way by using the following code it manages to work:
    // Menu Bar
    MenuBar mbar = new MenuBar();
    setMenuBar(mbar);
    Menu file = new Menu("File");
    MenuItem item1, item2, item3;
    file.add(item1 = new MenuItem("New"));
    file.add(item2 = new MenuItem("Open"));
    file.add(item3 = new MenuItem("Close"));
    mbar.add(file);
    Any reason why? Sorry for the n00b questions.

  • Safari 6.1  problem with Java

    Have OS  X  10.8.5
    Last Nov. Safari wouldn't work at all with Java. Many of us had this problem and had to uninstall it, and go back to 6.0.5
    -- which we were told takes a long time..actually took about 10-12 hrs to download.
    It's been 4 months.  I'd like to do some upgrading of my SW but do not want to go to Mavericks and Safari 6.1 if it's going to
    be a problem and have to be removed and go backwards again.
    Does anyone know if  these problems have  been fixed?

    Latest version for Safari on Mavericks is 7.0.1
    I've yet to have any issues with Java with Mavericks v10.9.2 installed Ricki.
    If you decide to upgrade to Mavericks, make sure your Mac meets the requirements here.
    Before upgrading make sure to backup all important data first.

  • Java won't be activated in Browser

    Hi, there!
    After ugrading to Mavericks, I can't activate Java in Java's Control Panel and Safari no longer has the option to activate java in it's Preferences.
    Any idea? Did Apple banned Java for good? Do I need to use another browser? (Chrome doesn't work for what I need).
    I still need to use Java. I hope I won't need to use Windows for that.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Maha-M,
    If you are having issues activating Java in Mavericks, you may want to try installing the following recent Java release:

  • Deinstall Java for OS X

    Hi all,
    some time ago I installed Java for Mavericks from Java for OS X 2014-001
    Now I need to install a least Java Version 1.7 because I would like to use Netbeans 8. As I don't need version 1.6 anymore I would like to deinstall that. I couldn't find any information on how to do that. Does anybody know how to deinstall Java for OS X?
    Thanks in advance!

    Unnecessary, since you can have both installed. To install SE 7, DL jre-7u60-macosx-x64.dmg and install it.

  • Java SE 6 runtime not updating properly after Mavericks update

    Since updating my 27-inch Late 2009 iMac to Mavericks I have an update that will not process. I keep getting a Software Update notification that says, "To open "java" you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?" When I click "install", it begins the process and indicates that it gets about 40% into it and then responds that the network cannot be contacted at this time and that I should try again later. This has been going on for days now and pops up multiple times a day.

    Same problem for me. I called Apple and they told me this is an old version of Java and that I should go to the Java web site and download the most current which I belive they told me was version 7. I did that, it seems to install properly but it did noting for stoppig this annoying popup window from appearing on a regualr baiss throughout the day. Additionally, I'm haing some programs telling me they can not run wothout the proper Java update which I can't seem to figure out which one is the proper update. I may add to this on Monday after I call Apple again and see if I can't get someone who kows what is going on. I had no warnings of this nature before Mavricks.

    I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked  OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks!

  • Java and Maven issues after upgrading OSX to Maverick 10.9.2

    I upgraded my MacBookAir to Maverick and now it can't  detect Java VM and Apache Maven

    If it is not finding the mvn command then I suspect that it has removed the directory mvn is in from the path variable. Run Terminal.app and type
    echo $PATH
    See if this includes the directory for mvn. You could try modifying your /etc/paths file (system wide) or for just a single user account the file to create/modify is
    ~/.profile
    It is generally best not to modify the system wide one if you don't need to.
    Reinstalling mvn might also be a solution and you could take the opportunity to update your mvn at the same time.

  • Java install OS X Mavericks 10.9.5

    Hello,
    I am new to mac and recently received a MBP as a gift.  My operating system is OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks).   I apologize if this has been answered numerous times in the forum but I have not been able to find a solution to my problem.
    I am trying to install Java for one website that my firm uses for VPN Remote Desktop connections.   My colleagues use both Mac's and PC's to connect without a problem through this website.  Java is required to run the scripts for our RSA token keys, the script is Array Solutions.
    I recently tried to connect and was prompted to download the latest version of Java.  I believe is was version 8.  I downloaded the file and installed without a hitch.  I checked my security settings etc. to make sure all was in order.
    When I visited the site, I was prompted to accept the user certificate and allowed the site access to Java.  It started to work and then I received a pop up window indicating that I need to install the most current version of Java.   The strange part is that I have it.   Needless to say, I was not able to gain access because my Java isn't working.
    Is there a solution to this?   Will I need to bring my Mac to my neighborhood store and have one the Geniuses configure my system?
    Cheers,
    W.

    You've probably figured your problem out by now. More than likely, the Array Solutions script is looking for a particular version (or particular major version, like 'anything matching 7.? where ? is > 3').  Check on their support pages, or try downloading the latest 7.x version of Java and point to that.  (Sorry I don't have time to validate this advice, but I've run into several software products that have made this mistake.)

  • Mavericks (10.9.1) blocking Java 7 update 51

    I am trying to play the NY Times Java Acrostic.  Every couple of months I have to update Java in order to get the applet to load (I get a message that my Java is out of date). This time I updated to Java 7 update 51, installed it, verified that it is successfully installed. But every time I try to click on the Java Acrostic, I get an error message where the Acrostic normally is located reading "Error. Click for details." I click and get a box headed "Application Blocked. Click for detais" with a red stop sign icon (the first few times it was just a white "i" in t blue circle icon) that states "Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running." There are three buttons: Details, Ignore, Reload.  "Ignore" and "Reload" accomplish nothing. "Details" gets me a "Java Console" box which reads:

    The menu bar in the Java Console reads "Java Applet---www.nytimes.com"
    The Times is stumped. I went to Safari Preferences (Security) and both the Times website and Java Applet are set to "Always Allow." Java Preferences' Security tab is set to "Medium" as several tech websites instruct (apparently this is a HUGE known issue with the latest updates to Mavericks and Java).  This did not happen until I updated Mavericks to 10.9.1.

    I'm not an expert, but I've gotten around this problem in the following way.
    Go to the Java Control Panel
    Click on the Security Tab
    Look for the Exception Site List toward the bottom, and click "Edit Site List"
    I added these sites to the list. Not sure if all are needed, but I was able to do the acrostic afterwards.

  • Why do I get an error message when installing latest version of Java in my Maverick system?

    I have been trying t install Java 10.5 update 4 in my computer.  My compputer was upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.
    Whenever I try the install Java, I get an error message saying Java for Mac 10.5 update 4 can't be installed on my disk, as that software can only be installed on Mac OS X Leopard.  I know Java 10.5 is the lattest version, so why can't I install in on my Mavericks system?

    10.5 is too old for Mavericks.  You want the update from http://www.java.com/
    Java 7v52 is the latest Java.
