Java Problems with web access/Oracle

I have a new problem I'm wondering if anyone has encountered. I use my G5 PPC to make input into a Government data base. It's been working for a couple of months (since I took on the assignment) but all of a sudden they started to make little 'fixes'. The result of which is that today I couldn't access it at all due to Java incompatibilities. Java 5.0 is being discontinued, so I tried downloading Java 6.0 from Apple and had too small a file, so I went to Sun and downloaded their version.
Now when I try to sign on, I get the same "NOTICE...Updated 08/13/2009 at 1:50PM EST...
If you receive an error message, "WEB CLIENT IS TOO OLD",
please follow the instructions in the pink box below for Internet Users (Java and Jinitiator Users). "
I dumped the cache as instructed in the pink box, no help. Can't find any Java receipts to delete. I have JarLauncher.app and Java Web Start.app both dated today in Core Services and I seem to have Java in three other places in the system folder. One is in the System>Library>Java>Extensions; One contains CodeResources, JavaScriptCore, Resources (all with todays date, but are all alias' and there is also a Versions folder, all of which seem to be Adobe, and the there are the following files found in the Frameworks folder, most appear to be alias' with the exception of the JavaVM which is 260 KB and the others with date and content noted below:

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be really grateful. Unfortunately my contacts who are responsible for the database are all PC folks and don't have ready answers.

Since you do have an Intel machine, you have one other option. You can try SoyLatte, which is a port of BSD Java for the Mac. It will run using X Windows instead of the Mac interface, so it won't be very pretty. There is no guarantee it will work either. Once you install it, you will have to go back in to Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and set your default Java version to be this new version. Then, try the app again.
I'll refrain from making the comments that I really want to make about Java. I guess it is a moot point anyway. With Sun going away I predict Java will follow. It will take a few years to flush Java out of IT's veins though. In the meantime, you may have to follow Little Saint's suggestion of VMWare/Parallels with Windows to run your Java app.

    Hi Experts
    I have a new poblem of connexion with my tools ( Web A
    In fact when I execute my template, I have this error of communication:
    ERROR JAVA : INCOMING CALL IS NOT AUTORIZED
    I do a lot of thing like :
    Create RFC Destination in J2EE Engine.
    Create RFC Destination for the Portal.
    Maintain Portal Server Settings for the Portal
    Maintain Single Sign-On in the BI System
    Export BI Certificate to the BI System.

    Let's take this one step at a time.
    1. You have successfully configured ABAP/Java communication using template installer? See note 917590.
    2. Did you assign the portal user appropriate portal roles?
    3. Can you start a web query from 7.0 query designer?

  • Problems with Enterprise Manager Oracle 10gR2

    Hi,
    The installation of 10gR2 on Windows 2000 seems to work.
    I only have a problem with web enterprise manager.
    I can connect to the database correctly and I can manage the database (creating tables, users and so on).
    The only problem is in the first page (home) of the database, accessing with the web enterprise manager.
    In fact I get this "error: java.lang.Exception: IOException in sending Request :: Connection refused", but I however access the db.
    I verified the DBSNMP user and it's active.
    Did someone get the same error?
    Excuse if I'm repeating a previous post, but I received answers about linux environment only (I have Windows 2000 server, instead).
    thanks a lot,
    Francesco

    We have in fact seen the same error. In our case, it appeared after the network guys moved the Oracle server from one domain to another. (This is not an action that I highly recommend, by the way.)
    I used emca to delete the Enterprise Manager agent and recreate it. For a single instance server not in a cluster or on a grid, the commands look like this:
    emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
    emca -config dbcontrol db
    That worked just fine. However, we started getting an "account locked" error when the Enterprise Manager started. And the result is the same as you described. The account is not locked by any means. If you ignore what you see on the screen about an error, you can go on and administer the database just fine. It's just when you get back to the home screen, it tells you that your account is locked and you are not in touch with the instance.
    I can make the error go away for awhile by stopping and starting the agent with
    emctl stop dbconsole
    emctl start dbconsole
    But the error comes back in a little while.
    We don't consider it a show stopper, since the database performs normally. It's just one of those things you wish it would not do.

  • Problem with web.show_document with Jinitiator and Firefox

    Not sure Firefox 2.0 is officially certified with Forms 9.0.4.1 and Jinitiatorbut regardless we have some users who want to use this combination. Everything seems to work fine except for the calls to web.show_document which opens a new browser window and displays some html etc.
    The problem is that even though the client Forms JVM is Jinitiator (1.3.1.18 or .21) when the call to web.show_document occurs somehow the Sun Java Plugin starts and having the two JVM's at once causes a fatal crash in Firefox. Can anyone suggest a way to preven the second JVM from opening?
    When the user uses the Sun Plug as the client Forms JVM there is no problem as the second JVM does not open. Unfortunately some users insist on Jinitiator with Firefox hence the problem. -quinn

    James,
    This whole applet embedded in a browser model for webforms is driving us batty at times. The list of problems includes:
    1) Users are constantly tempted by browser controls and accidentally do all sorts of things to get them in trouble. This has included but not limited to using the navigation arrows, jumping off to read their email in the same window as the form and returning to a dead forms session, minimizing, resizing, blurring off to another window and then returning back by clicking on the title bar of the browser and wondering why the form doesn't tab etc.
    Sure hobbling the browser by opening with limited functionality is a possibility but not a complete solution.
    2) New versions of browsers seem to break something. Both IE 7 and Firefox 2 have their own problems with web.show_document, especially file associations such as CSV and DBF and trying to open things in Excel in IE7.Firefox seems to have less problems for some yet some some oddities like the one that started this thread (and 2.0 opening new windows in tabs by default instead of windows).
    3) JVM jigsaw puzzle. Is it Jinit or Sun, which versions? Which combinations of browser version and JVM works.
    4) General fragility of the whole architecture. Running a client JVM in a web browser on top of a PC Operating system connectiong to a forms server over a network embedded in a Java Container server on a full blown web server running on a unix operating system is pushing the bubble. Throw in the mix that any of these components can be combined in numerous ways makes one wonder how it works as well as it does.
    Still users randomly getting dropped connections to forms server (network gltches?). General sluggishness (poorly written forms?). Periods of users with unduplicatable errors primarily network related it would appear.
    General feel that it is not rock solid stable. Perusing metalink documents on performance and tuning gives too much and too general info to troubleshoot so just shrug shoulders and say 'network problem'.
    What's the solution? Java webstart would seem to help at least with the browser realted issues but is that supported and documented how to use yet. Also we'd lose web_show_document which is critical (could it be replaced by webutil calls to open browser?).

  • Problem with web.xml

    Hello,
    I have a big problem with web.xml.
    i can run the servlet demos with the default web.xml, but when i try to user a costum web.xml files, i receive a 404 page not found on a link.
    i have some dificulty to post here. but can somebody help my with my web.xml files?
    thanks for your help.
    have a nice day!

    Be careful with the place of your files and folders. It's possible that you've just mentioned the cause of your problem.
    My web.xml is
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
    <web-app>
    <display-name>gco</display-name>
    <description>gco webapplicaties</description>
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>MopoController</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.gertcuppens.controller.MopoController</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>MopoController</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/MOPO</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    </web-app>
    When I want to call my web application locally, I use the URL http://localhost:8080/gco/MOPO.
    The http://localhost:8080 calls Tomcat. With /gco, Tomcat knows it should look for a folder gco inside the webapps folder. This one should contain a WEB-INF/web.xml folder for further instructions.
    With /MOPO Tomcat knows, having read the web.xml files of all webapps folders at start, it should look for a servlet with the name MopoController. And this MopoController points to the class org.gertcuppens.controller.MopoController. So, Tomcat knows where to find everything.
    Try to see whether your Tomcat can find everything inside the folders using your web.xml file.

  • Problem with implicitly created Oracle pipes

    Hi, I am having a problem with implicitly created Oracle pipes. I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this topic, but I could not see one which suited better..
    I am using Oracle pipes as a commiunication mechanism between processes (some are written in PL/SQL and other in PRO*C).
    The general problem I have is that if a timeout occurs during the communication process, I end up with 1 or perhaps 2 implicitly created pipes.
    The biggest problem for me is that I am unable to determine if a create is implicitly created (via dbms_pipe.send_message or receive_message). This causes problems, since these implicitly created pipes are left behind and not deleted. I'll show you the basic flow of the processes and you shall see my problem.
    server: create request pipe "req_pipe"
    server: listen for request on requests pipe.
    client: create two pipes for comms with server.
    client: send request and the names of the newly created pipes to the server.
    server: read request and pipename from request pipe (from this point all comms between the client and server are now done over the 2 pipes the client created).
    server: send ack message to client to ensure they are still there (since requests can be queued in the request pipe and clients could have timed out before the request is received)
    client: send "i'm still here" ack back to the server.
    server: process request and send result back to client.
    client: send ack back to server to let server know we have received the response.
    server: send ack back to client to show that work is now committed.
    OK thats the general event flow. I use the rule, that pipes created by a process are removed by a process. So the client always removes the pipes it created in all situations. But since this can happen at any point we can get in the situation:
    client: timeout occurs, delete pipes.
    server: send message to client (creates an implicit pipe) and therefor works (no errors raised)
    server: do a read for response from previous message. (implicitly creates pipe) (will fail).
    Now we have two implicitly created pipes! These pipes will exist until the database instance is shutdown, and in a poorly performing environment, we could get thousands of these pipes lying around... not a good situation.
    How can I either stop pipes being implicilty created, or how do I detect if a pipe was implicitly created.
    I have tried a couple of things, like using v$db_pipes to check if a pipe exists before doing send/reveive calls but this is FAR to slow to do a select on that view.
    We have also looked at keeping a record of pipes created by the client then have some process (perhaps the server) clean up these pipes after some time frame. This is a workable solution but is not favourable since it adds extra overhead having to check these pipes often, and created an extra level of complexity which is not required..
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Feel free to email me with any suggestions on my email provided below, or just post a reply to this formum..
    Many thanks,
    Karl Bridger

  • Problems with Download of Oracle IFS /IFS Devkit for NT

    I am having problems with download of Oracle IFS and Oracle IFS Devkit for NT.
    When I ran the ifsdevkit.bat file the last four files did not get copied over. Subsequently when I ran the upload_ifsdevkit batch file as indicated in document I got error message saying
    'System cannot find the path specified'.
    When I opened the batch file it is looking for BIN directory under the C:\OraHome1\ifs directory but none exists. I wonder if this is the cause of problem. This would mean that the ifs1081.zip file has a bug in that it did not create the BIN directory and files under C:\OraHome1\ifs
    Would appreciate if somebody can help. Thanks
    null

    Is C:\OraHome1 your ORACLE_HOME directory? (Usually, it's C:\Oracle\Ora81)
    Also, have you installed iFS (successfully) in that ORACLE_HOME? If so, you are guaranteed to have an %ORACLE_HOME%\ifs\bin directory.
    Finally, did you enter the correct directory as the parameter to the DEVKIT script?

  • Return commit for DP-K---Why no Internet Explorer access due to problem with web page?

    I ran full scans on MBAM & SUPERAntiSpyware as requested.  All I got was 2 adware tracking cookies detected with the spyware program.  I have Windows Vista Home Basic with a 32-bit operating system  IE version was Internet Explorer 8 & I also downloaded Explorer 9 with no difference in result.  The toolbar "fix" was probably in regards to general computer problems. Please advise.

    Hi,
    First, close all open applications.
    From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  Into the prompt, type the following commands, hitting enter after each command.  Include spaces in the commands where shown.
    ipconfig /flushdns
    nbtstat -R
    nbtstat -RR
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
    netsh winsock reset
    When complete, type exit and hit enter, then restart the PC and check connectivity.
    If this doesn't resolve the issue, another area worth checking is whether there is any problem with the Layered Service Providers on the PC - although problems with these usually cause no connection at all.  You can do this by downloading LSP-Fix on the link below.  Save this to your Desktop.  This is a stand-alone application so you can just delete it afterwards.
    LSP-Fix
    When download, right click the application and select 'Run as Administrator'.  If everything is ok with your LSPs you will see green writing stating this.  If it does detect a problem, post back with the error.

    I know that this is happening because special characters are sent by the soap message but I don't know how to solve this problem.
    How could I avoid this exception ?
    I hope you can help me.

    Hi,
    BPEL and BPEL PM do not have a good support for SOAPENC-Array: it would be very difficult to create such an array in BPEL or to receive it and manipulate it.
    The (unfortunately very intrusive) work around is to change the WSDL of the service to use a XML type defined using XML schema. This is all the more painful that JDev 9.0.4 does not have strong support for complex types.
    In general though, I would highly recommend this best practice:
    1) Start by define the WSDL contract first
    2) Then generate the server side skeleton to implement it
    3) Use BPEL as the client to this contract.
    By starting with the contract first, you make sure that 1) your interfaces are clean and coarse grained.
    2) things like java objects, sessions, etc to not leak through the interface (which would be the worst thing that could happen because it would closely link the client and the server.
    Sorry for not being more helpful. This will get radically cleaner in Oracle AS 10.1.3.

  • Java app with web service and servlets

    Hi. I intend to make a java application which exposes some methods as a web service and as jsp/servlets. It's core functionality is not really web centric, but its more a java app with a web tier. I am not sure about how the architecture of such a system would look like using the java platform. I currently see three options:
    1. Run everything in a servlet container like tomcat. I hesitate to do this because i would be putting a lot of functionality which isn't about the web into a servlet container. Also, I have a lot of application scope data that is maintained and shared by all servlets/web services. However, it would be really easy just to put everything into tomcat and use ServletContext to maintain some global objects.
    2. Use a Java EE to seperate application/business logic and data access into session beans and entity beans. I hesitate to this because it seem a bit overkill because the system isn't very big or complex right now. It also means that I would have to learn to use EJB's instead of just using some POJOs.
    3. Run the web tier in a servlet container and the main app in a separate JVM, and then connect the tier by sending serialized objects over TCP sockets. I don't like writing network code but at least there is some separation of the tiers.
    What would you do? Maybe I have overlooked a much better solution to the problem?
    Let me just say that the system is the product of a student project spanning one semester, so it's important to choose the RIGHT solution (architectural-wise) instead of the something quick and dirty that is hard to defend.

    jschell wrote:

    Let me just say that the system is the product of a student project spanning one semester, so it's important to choose the RIGHT solution (architectural-wise) That pretty much makes it impossible then.
    1. A "Right" solution is generally only proven by time.
    2. It requires a great deal of knowledge about the business domain.Yeah, you are right. Let be try to rephrase it. What solution (pattern) would be considered the most common or appropriate when you have a Java App and want to expose a few methods as a website and web service?
    I hesitate to do this because i would be putting a lot of functionality which isn't about the web into a servlet container. Also, I have a lot of application scope data that is maintained and shared by all servlets/web servicesHuh? Do you already have an exposed web service? If you already have a server which other clients communicate then where does this functionality that you don't want to be tomcat running now? Or where do you think that you want to run it? And if you are or do run it somewhere else then tomcat could access it the same way any other client accesses that server.Sorry, that sentence was written badly. I don't have anything right now. What I meant to write was that I will have a lot of application scope data, objects that are kept in memory as long as the server is running, shared by multiple servlet instances.

  • Linux install problems with Web Dev Pack 1.1

    Any one else having problems installing Web Services Dev Pack 1.1 for Linux that was released on 2/25 ? It gets about 55% finished in the install and then it complains about moving certain jaxp files to $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/endorsed dir. I do put the files in the endorsed dir but the install does not continue. It also fails when starting over reporting the same issue.

  • Problem with Dynamically accessing EJB Class objects in WL 7.0 SP1

    I am trying to build a component which has the ability to instantiate and execute
    an known EJB method on the fly.
    I have managed to build the component but when I try and execute it I get a ClassNotFoundException.
    I know that the EJB I am trying to invoke is deployed and available on the server,
    as I can see it in the console, I also seen to have been able to get the remote
    interface of the object, my problem occurs when I try and access the class object
    so I can perform a create on the object and then execute my method
    The code I have written is below:
    private Object getRemoteObject(Context pCtx, String pJNDIName, String pHomeBean)
    throws Exception {
         String homeCreate = "create";
         Class []homeCreateParam = { };
         Object []homeCreateParamValues = {};
    try {
    //This call seems to work and doesn't throw an exception
    Object home = pCtx.lookup(pJNDIName);
    //However this call throws a java.lang.ClassNotFoundException
    Class homeBean = Class.forName(pHomeBean);
    Method homeCreateMethod = homeBean.getMethod(homeCreate,homeCreateParam);
    return homeCreateMethod.invoke(home, homeCreateParamValues);
    } catch (NamingException ne) {
    logStandardErrorMessage("The client was unable to lookup the EJBHome.
    Please make sure ");
    logStandardErrorMessage("that you have deployed the ejb with the JNDI
    name "+pJNDIName+" on the WebLogic server ");
    throw ne;
    } catch (Exception e) {
    logStandardErrorMessage(e.toString());
    throw e;
    Any advice would be really appreciated, I'm fast running out of ideas, I suspect
    it has something to do with the class loader but I'm not sure how to resolve it
    Regards
    Jo Corless

    Hello Joanne,
    Congratulations! I'm very happy that you've managed to fix your problem. It's
    always essential to understand how to package applications when deploying on BEA
    WebLogic. Usually, by throwing everything into an EAR file solves just about all
    the class loader problems. :-) Let us know if you have any further problems that
    we can assist you with.

    Thanks to everyone who gave me help!!!!
    The class loader was the culprit which is what I suspected all along.
    As soon
    as I put the 2 jar files I was using into an EAR file the problem went
    away!!!!!
    Thanks again

    Hello Joanne,
    As Mr. Woollen mentioned, I also believe it's a problem with the class
    loader.
    You need to be careful how you arrange your EJBs, because WebLogic has
    a specific
    method in which it loads classes in an EAR, JAR, and WAR file(s). Please
    refer
    to http://dev2dev.bea.com/articles/musser.jsp for more information about
    BEA WebLogic
    class loading mechanisms and caveats. Also, try printing out the various
    methods
    that are available on the object that was returned to you via reflection.
    For
    example, use the getMethods() method, which returns an array of Method
    objects
    that you can subsequently cycle through and print out the various method
    names.
    This way you can discover if the class found/returned to you is indeed
    the one
    you intend to locate.
    Hope this helps,

    I believe the issue is the home interface class for this EJB is not
    available in the class loader which is doing the reflection.
    If you do:
    getClass().getClassLoader().loadClass(homeInterfaceClassName)
    I suspect it will fail. Reflection still requires that the class be
    loadable.

    Hi Slava,
    If I make my code look like you describe below I get a compliationerror telling

    home.getMethod() is not recognised (no such method)
    If I change it slightly and use
    Method homeCreateMethod =
    home.getClass().getMethod(homeCreate,homeCreateParam);
    The code will compile OK but when executed it still throws a NoSuchMethodException
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks for your help so far
    Regards

    Your code should look like
    Object home = pCtx.lookup(pJNDIName);
    Method homeCreateMethod =
    home.getMethod(homeCreate,homeCreateParam);
    return homeCreateMethod.invoke(home, homeCreateParamValues);

    Hi Ryan,
    I also wanted to mention that if you do a "header search" in this
    particular
    newsgroup
    with the search query as "reflection", you will see many previousmessages
    regarding
    reflection and EJBs. I believe you could learn a lot from thedifficulties
    that
    others have faced and solved.I tried that and although there was a number of similar cases noneof them
    actually
    seem to fix my issue. Thanks for the suggestion though
    Are the EJBs that you are trying to access accessible via your
    system
    classpath?
    Try to avoid having them accessible via the main system classpath,and
    only bundle
    them in your appropriate EJB jar files (contained in an EAR file,for
    example).Maybe I should have laid the problem out a little clearer.
    I have a number of EJB's bundled up in a JAR file which is hot deployedto
    the
    server. Within this first JAR file is an EJB (SSB) component that
    needs
    to
    be
    able to invoke a known method on another EJB. This second EJB may
    or
    may
    not be
    within the first JAR file but it also will be hot deployed.
    The component trying to invoke the method on the 2nd EJB has to
    be
    able to
    create
    an instance of the 2nd EJB without actually knowing anything bar
    a
    JNDI
    Name which
    is passed in at runtime.
    I can get as far as doing the
    Object home = pCtx.lookup(pJNDIName);
    This returned a class with the name
    "com.csc.edc.projects.allders.httppostoffice.postman.PostmanBean_mp8qy2_Home
    Impl_WLStub"
    My problem seems to occur when I try and invoke the create method
    Method homeCreate = home.getClass().getMethod("create", new Class[0]);
    My code throws a java.lang.NoSuchMethodException at this point so
    I
    am
    unable
    to progress to the next step of :
    Object bean = homeCreate.invoke(home, null);
    So I can return the instantiated bean back to the calling client.
    Why am I getting the NoSuchMethodException, is is because I am gettinga
    stub
    back rather than the home interface and if so how do I get the truehome
    interface
    from the bean
    Thanks in advance

    The variable '?' is the today date, the difference <b>"(?-GIORNO)"</b> is an int..
    Moreover in my DAO class the query is <b>"SELECT NOMESETTORE, MIN(? - GIORNO) AS GIORNI FROM SRS_DATEINFORTUNI WHERE NOMEDITTA = ? AND NOMEAREA= ? GROUP BY NOMESETTORE ORDER BY NOMESETTORE</b>", instead in the error message is reported <b>MIN(? - "GIORNO")</b>...
    We have tryed also with alternative query, for example we used <b>"MIN(SYSDATA - GIORNO)"</b> but <b>SYSDATA</b> was interpreted as column name and  not found....
    Any help???
    Best Regards

    Hi, I found something about the Host Variable (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/ed/dbf8b7823b084f80a6eb7ad43bdbb9/content.htm), there explain that if you want to use an host variable you have to put ':' as prefix..
    My problem is that <u>I need to extract the minimum of the subtraction between two dates:</u>
    Query <b>MIN(? - GIORNO)</b> --> <i>Error: the arithmetic expression >>? - "GIORNO"<< contains a host variable (parameter marker)</i>
    So I tried to use the ':' as indicated in the manual..
    <b>MIN:(? - GIORNO)</b> --> - <i>SQL syntax error: the token ":" was not expected here
                   - expecting LPAREN, found ':'</i>
    <b>MIN(:(? - GIORNO))</b> --> <i>- 1:25 - Open SQL syntax error: :PARAMETER not allowed
                   - 1:26 - SQL syntax error: the token "(" was not expected here
                   - 1:26 - expecting ID, found '('</i>
    Then I tried to avoid the MIN() function and I tried to do just the subtraction:
    <b>? - GIORNO</b> --><i> - 1:21 - the arithmetic expression >>? - "GIORNO"<< contains a host variable (parameter marker)</i>
    <b>:(? - GIORNO)</b> --> <i>- 1:21 - Open SQL syntax error: :PARAMETER not allowed
                - 1:22 - SQL syntax error: the token "(" was not expected here
                - 1:22 - expecting ID, found '('</i>
    <b>'2007-09-24' - GIORNO</b> --> <i>- 1:34 - SQL syntax error: first argument of operator "-" must be a number, date/time or interval
                     - 1:43 - SQL syntax error: arguments of operator "-" do not have correct types
                     - 1:43 - SQL syntax error: derived columns in SELECT list with AS must be values</i>
    <b>GIORNO - GIORNO</b> --> <i>- 1:21 - the group by list and the select list are inconsistent: the column >>"GIORNO"<< is neither grouped nor aggregated
                  - 1:30 - the group by list and the select list are inconsistent: the column >>"GIORNO"<< is neither grouped nor aggregated</i>
    Why these parts of query are not accepted???
    I don't understand why... I hope you can help me.
    Best Regards
    Alessandro
