Java's LinkedList Class

I'm having trouble just starting a linked list. How do I use this class? and how do I add an element to the list? I know this class is in the java.util.LinkedList
librairy.
Thanks for the help...

Here is the code I got so far, am I on the right
track?That depends on what you're trying to do. Don't name your class list unless you're actually implementing (as opposed to using a List) and don't name it List anyway because List is the name of an interface in the core API.
Here's a tutorial
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/collections/Here's a quick hypothetical example. We assume that Foo and FooSource exist: public class MyClass {
    private List chainOfFoos;
    public void buildChain(FooSource source) {
        chainOfFoos = new LinkedList();
        while (source.hasMoreFoos()) {
            Foo foo = source.nextFoo();
            chainOfFoos.add(foo);
} And yes, LinkedList is very much like ArrayList. It's also a lot like a simple array.

  • Sort(java.util.LinkedList java.lang.Object ) doesn't work

    Why doesn't this work?
    LinkedList<Object> sysPropsKeys = new LinkedList<Object>(System.getProperties().keySet());
    Collections.sort(sysPropsKeys);
    cannot fnd symbol
    symbol : method sort(java.util.LinkedList<java.lang.Object>)
    location: class java.util.Collections

    I will admit to not having Java1.5 installed on my machine. Haven't yet had the chance to play with generics, but the above DOES work in 1.4, and SHOULD work in 1.5
    Maybe I'm naive but, System.getProperties() returns a Properties object right?
    According to the API: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/util/Properties.html: Each key and its corresponding value in the property list is a string.
    All the keys SHOULD be strings.
    AFAIK string are comparable, and shouldn't throw class cast exceptions
    Thus the keys returned from getProperties SHOULD be comparable, and compatible for comparision.
    Ok, I can see your point in that some hackers abuse the Properties class by putting non string keys/values into the Properties Map. In that case the code would become more like your above. I'd probably still go with a TreeMap though, rather than a sorted list of keys. Most time you want the keys, you want the values as well. So if the intention is to print out a sorted list of system properties, and their values, keeping it in a map is best.
    Just my 2 cents,

  • Difference between ArrayList class and LinkedList class

    I would like to ask what is the difference between the ArrayList class and the LinkedList class? If I use ArrayList class can I have a fixed size?
    Thank you for your answers.

    I often use LinkedList when I need a FIFO. When all you're doing is adding to the end of a list and removing the first element, it is definitely faster. Here's a quick SSCCE I wrote up to demonstrate:import java.util.*;
    public class ListTest {
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          LinkedList<Integer> linked = new LinkedList<Integer>();
          ArrayList<Integer> array = new ArrayList<Integer>();
          Integer[] values = new Integer[2500000];
          for (int i = 0; i < values.length; i++) {
             values[i] = new Integer(i);
          Random rand = new Random();
          boolean[] randDir = new boolean[values.length];
          for (int i = 0; i < randDir.length; i++) {
             randDir[i] = rand.nextBoolean();
          long startTime, endTime;
          startTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
          for (int i = 0; i < values.length; i++) {
             if (linked.size() > 0 && randDir) {
    linked.removeFirst();
    else {
    linked.addLast(values[i]);
    endTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
    linked.clear();
    System.out.println("linked:"+(endTime-startTime));
    startTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
    for (int i = 0; i < values.length; i++) {
    if (array.size() > 0 && randDir[i]) {
    array.remove(0);
    else {
    array.add(values[i]);
    endTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
    System.out.println("array:"+(endTime-startTime));
    array.clear();

  • Java application with classes to Applet?

    Hello,
    First, I'm a Java junior, but I can make efforts to analyse and understand code.
    I saw an interesting open-source multiplayer poker java application: [JiBi's Hold'Em|http://sourceforge.net/projects/jibisholdem/]
    I would like to try to add it as an Applet on my server, but I have some questions.
    1- Do you think it is possible to make it fully works as an Applet (eg: through a proxy), as it seems to use a specific protocol and many classes?
    2- I tried the idea of GumB: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=390846&start=13&tstart=0
    with getContentPane().add( new javaApp().getContentPane()but I have the following error message:
    I also tried with imports (import holdem.core.Card;etc) and with HoldEmClientGUI().getContentPane() or holdem.gui.HoldEmClientGUI().getContentPane()
    D:\JiBisHoldem\src\holdem\gui\HoldEmApp.java:7: cannot find symbol
    symbol  : class HoldEmClientGUI
    location: class HoldEmApp
            getContentPane().add( new HoldEmClientGUI().getContentPane() );
                                      ^
    1 errorAm I close or really far from a working result?
    Thanks
    John.

    The above way seems to have the same result as getContentPane().add( new javaApp().getContentPane().

  • Class is not appearing in "Java Batch Job Class Search" when trying to add.

    Hi,
    I have oracle CC&B 2.3.1, with SDK 2.2.0.12. I am trying to create new java batch job class by copying an existing one and modifying it to be used with new Batch Control .
    Steps are as follows:
    1-Created file by copying the exiting file
    CreateLatePaymentChargesProcess.java ; and only changing the name of the class:
    public class CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess
    extends CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen
    File location :
    D:\spl\ccb231\applycm\ssgc_patch\java\source\cm\ CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess.java
    D:\spl\ccb231\applycm\ssgc_patch\java\source\cm\ CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen.java
    2-Run ApplyCm build successfully , which generated these files:
    D:\spl\ccb231\java\target\cm\com\splwg\ccb\domain\billing\batch\ CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess.class
    D:\spl\ccb231\java\target\cm\com\splwg\ccb\domain\billing\batch\ CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen$1.class
    D:\spl\ccb231\java\target\cm\com\splwg\ccb\domain\billing\batch\CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen$CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcessWorker_Gen$ThreadParameters.class
    D:\spl\ccb231\java\target\cm\com\splwg\ccb\domain\billing\batch\CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen$CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcessWorker_Gen$ToDoProperties.class
    D:\spl\ccb231\java\target\cm\com\splwg\ccb\domain\billing\batch\CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen$CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcessWorker_Gen.class
    D:\spl\ccb231\java\target\cm\com\splwg\ccb\domain\billing\batch\CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen$JobParameters.class
    D:\spl\ccb231\java\target\cm\com\splwg\ccb\domain\billing\batch\CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcess_Gen.class
    All the above classes are part of CM.jar file
    ContextManagedObjects.xml ;  contains these information
    <com.splwg.shared.environ.ContextManagedObjectData>;
    <domainPackages/>
    <lookupFieldClasses class="tree-map">
    <no-comparator/>
    </lookupFieldClasses>
    <cobolAlgorithmInterfaceExtensions class="tree-map">
    <no-comparator/>
    </cobolAlgorithmInterfaceExtensions>
    </com.splwg.shared.environ.ContextManagedObjectData>;
    packageMetaInfo.xml was not created
    Still the class is not appearing in "Java Batch Job Class Search" when trying to add a new program name referencing this java class.
    I tried restarting the Tomcat application server, still not appearing.
    Where did I go wrong about it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Did you copying the base file CreateLatePaymentChargesProcess.java?
    I also create a new batch job which copying the CreateLatePaymentChargesProcess batch code the only difference in getBills() method query and inner class CreateLatePaymentChargesProcessWorker extend CmCreateLatePaymentChargesProcessWorker_Gen, instead of CreateLatePaymentChargesProcessWorker_Gen.
    The batch is working fine in my end.
    Thanks,
    Atul Singh.

    Did you uninstall 1.3 completely? Completely in the sense both jdk and jre.
    You may get this error if you use javac of one version and the rt.jar of another version.

  • Servlet failed with Exception java.lang.LinkageError: Class javax/servlet/ServletConfig

              Hi
              I registered a web app with Weblogic 5.1 in the weblogic.properties file. I try
              to run the web app from my browser typing http://localhost:7001/xxx(Webapp name)
              and a jsp page. Following is the error I get. It would be helpful if some one
              could point me to a fix for this problem

              Sorry, I didn't look very closely - the exception is for
              javax.servlet.ServletConfig - should be in weblogicaux.jar.
              Is there anything wrong with it? What service pack are you
              using? Could be a problem with weblogic.policy.

    The classes you are referring to are part of the Java API. Third party jars have no impact on that. And you can't change to the order because java.sql.Data is derived from java.util.Date. So the second must load before the first.
    And if you have two jar files with those classes in them (and not classes that use them) then you either should already know how to use them or you should stop trying to do whatever you are doing because it isn't going to work.

  • Crystal Reports 2013 java-error "java.lang.ClassCastException: class com.crystaldecisions..." when promoting

    Hi,
    when promoting "Crystal Report 2013" report (with data connectivity BW MDX Query) from BO DEV to BO PROD with BO Promotion Mgmt (LCM), we get the following error message in LCM jobs history:
    Resolution Status=Overwritten, Dependency Status=All the required dependencies are included.,
    Commit Status=Commit attempted and failed.,
    Promotion Status=Failure : Object promoted. Update failed.
    Error: java.lang.ClassCastException: class com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ByteArray:java.net.URLClassLoader@1d634758 incompatible
    with class com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.PropertyBag:java.net.URLClassLoader@1d634758
    The report itself is present on BO PROD, but the overwrite (BW DEV MDX Query-> BW PROD MDX Query) is not applied, so report connectivity still points to the BW Query on the development system :-( .
    Moreover, the overwrite itself is detected when the job is "test promoted" ("active overwrite").
    Before, we successfully were able to transport crystal reports 2013 with overwrite (the connection then pointed to BW PROD). No idea yet what suddenly changed that...
    Any ideas what causes the error and what can fix it (no posts found, no SAP note, google also no hits)?
    Best regards
    Florian Pitschi

    Update:
    After more investigation, it looks as if the BO Server "CrystalReports2013ReportApplicationServer"
    from time to time has an issue - not only when promoting, but also when viewing publications that contain Crystal Report documents or when executing them, the java class error or similar issue is thrown.
    Did sb face similar behaviour and knows what is the root cause for "CrystalReports2013ReportApplicationServer" not working probably and throwing the java-class error? - it was running fine for several months, now, the class error showed up twice in one month.
    We need to find out what is causing the issue (aleady checked tomcat and BO-logfiles...).
    Best Regards
    Florian

  • Need node-level access in java.util.LinkedList... possible?

    Hi, I require access to the nodes not the elements, in a java.util.LinkedList. Is this possible, or will I have to write my own implementation.
    Thanks
    Grape

    I do need full control over the nodes because I am linking them together to form an n-dimensional circularly-linked lattice. After thinking about it, it became clear it would be much easier to write my own nodes and special type of iterator along with an Axis enum type than it would be to muck around trying to weave together prefab lists even if I did have access to the nodes. Anyways, the feat has been accomplished :) Thanks for your reply.

  • Applet accidentally requests Java Core API classes from network

    Hi,
    starting an applet from a customers client machine (IE7, Windows XP, Standard JRE Installation of Java 1.6.0_26), I see in the tomcat access log entries signalizing that core java api classes are accidentally requested from the server:
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/lang/StringBuilder.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1156 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/javax/swing/JPanel.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1141 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/net/JarURLConnection.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1162 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/util/jar/JarEntry.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1153 0
    "GET /mywebapp/applet/java/util/jar/JarFile.class HTTP/1.1" 404 1150 0
    Although tomcat responses with HTTP 404, the applet works fine.
    Questions:
    1. For me, it looks like a security risk when the browser tries to load system classes from the network instead of using the local files from the jre dir, doesn't it?
    2. When starting the applet from my local machine (different network), no tomcat logfile entries are generated. An interesting fact is, that in the customer network, the applet "codebase" parameter in the HTML source gets modifed by a proxy server for whatever reason like the following:
    <applet codebase="http://mydomain.org/mywebapp/applet">
    becomes some kind of:
    <applet codebase="http://mydomain.org/mywebapp/applet/+sgrkjkrlgjklJKLjekrr4jewlkfjkerlkrelkjgregkjerlkgljkeglkjgjelkLKJLKefjei55435ijjkl=+">
    It seems that such codebases confuse the classloader. Any ideas about that?
    Thank you so much for any hints!

    <applet codebase="http://mydomain.org/mywebapp/applet">
    So you're loading individual .class files from the codebase? Don't do that, put them into a JAR and specify the JAR file(s) as the codebase. Much more efficient and it may solve this problem too.
