Java.sql.SQLException: No current row in the ResultSet

Hi All,
I use JTDS 1.2.
I get the following error:
java.sql.SQLException: No current row in the ResultSet.
when I run the following code:
     public void QueryToCust(){
          String username = "sa";
          String password = "";
          String url = "jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://localhost:1433/OkyanusPINAR2006;tds=8.0";
          setSQLcode("select * from firma where kod='123'");
          try{
               Class.forName("net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver");
          } catch (Exception e){
               setErrMsg(e.toString() + " cannot register class.");
               return;
          Statement stmt = null;
          Connection con = null;
          try{
               con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,username,password);
          } catch (Exception e){
               setErrMsg(e.toString() + " cannot connection!");
               return;
          try{
               stmt = con.createStatement();
               ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sqlCode);
               if(rs != null){
                    String name = new String(rs.getString("name"));
                    setCustName(name);
          rs.close();
               con.close();
          } catch (Exception e){
               setErrMsg(e.toString());
               return;
          setErrMsg("jdbc: No error!");
     }This sql code running with msSQL Enterprise Manager SQL tools return to row. But can not run it in java! Why?

you need to call
rs.next();

    Use code tags when you post code.
    I wrote and tested in MS Access following query and all it is working well. You mean it works in MS Access. Not that it works in java.
    >
    pstm = DBConnect.prepareStatement(
    "SELECT Parameter.Name, Parameter.id FROM " +
    "(ParameterGroupMember INNER JOIN ApplicationReadsParameter ON " +I STRONGLY suggest that rather than putting spaces at the end of each part put it at the beginning. It makes it much easier to get it right.
    I also suggest formatting the code. There are various ways.
            // Wrong
            String sql = "select x, y z "
                             + "from table1 t1, idtable idt"
                             + "where t1.tim=idt.tim "
                             +  "and t1.book = idt.book";
            // Right (spaces) - one way to format
            String sql = "select"
                             + "         x, y z"
                             + " from table1 t1, idtable idt"
                             + " where"
                             + "          t1.tim=idt.tim"
                             + "          and t1.book = idt.book";Your code is in fact missing a space. No idea if that is a problem or not.
    Remove the semicolon from the end.
    PRINT the sql before you use it, copy/paste and use that string in MS Access (replace the ?) to see if it work.
    Further I found that the problem is with the setting of the second parameter in the statement. Is there different way how to set the second parameter if union is used?The MS Access ODBC driver isn't really great for actually reporting errors correctly. So usually any error means something is wrong and it is up to you to figure out the exact problem.

  • "java.sql.SQLException: Ref cursor is invalid" - Please help

    Hi everyone,
    I'm really having problem. I'm surrently calling a PL/SQL stored procedure from Java but I'm getting the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: Ref cursor is invalid
    The procedure has 2 normal IN parameters and 1 ref cursor OUT parameter. Depending upon Parameter 1 a ref cursor may or may not be initialised.
    If Parameter 1 is "yes" then a ref cursor is called to retrieve some data and passed into the OUT. If Parameter 1 is set to "no" then the ref cursor is not initialised. It is here where the error is being hrown. Does anyone know why? Microsoft ADO doesn't seem to complain. Please help is needed. Thanks in advance.
    John

    Hi Justin,
    Thanks for replying. The Java code is a bit awkward to send because we're using several "home-made" wrapper objects to call SQL and stored procedures. In both cases I create a resultset object and only this one object is used irrespective if the first parameter is "yes" or "no", but a ref cursor is passed to the OUT parameter only on condition yes. Hence, the PL/SQL code takes the form similar to:
    OPEN curs FOR SELECT * FROM table;
    The "curs" is then put into the OUT of the procedure. When the parameter is "no" then the "curs" ref cursor in the PL/SQL procedure isn't even initialised like the above. At this point Java complains of an invalid ref cursor. I can try and piece togather the code but it may be very tricky.

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe

    To whom it may concern:
    Anyone who can help me with my problem? We have Java application(Loading2Staging) that calls a series of stored procedures in Oracle. This job takes about 30 hours to complete. We have other Java applications that is running and calling Oracle on the same machine and database. All of the applications are using "Java connection pooling". I'm encountering problem with the said application. When Loading2Staging is running and then other jobs would start to establish a connection, Loading2Staging then fails with this error: java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe
    The procedures of Loading2Staging is taking too long to complete. So my question is, "Is the job failing because of its inactivity or do some other applications steal the 'connection pooling' assigned to it for it to run smoothly?"
    If that's the case, could I create a "dedicated connection" or "connection pooling" to prevent the stealing of connection among jobs?
    This is a very urgent issue. Your immediate response will be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    really need the info from the debug files around the error, but as you have fixed it by dropping and re-creating the user, this is not possible.
    From the error stack, my best guess would be that one of the publication items was not correctly instantiated against the user or had been dropped and when it was accessing the all client items table for the magic details on one of the publication items associated with the publication, no data was found
    If you get this again, look in c$all_client_items on the server and see if the user has a different number of records to others for the same application. This is a pointer to a instantiation failure. If this happens, doing a cut, paste and save on one of the data subsetting parameters for the user normally fixes the problem

  • Java.sql.SQLException: The TCP/IP connection to the host  has failed.

    Hello. I hope you had a happy new year! Now its back to work.
    I am having a problem connecting to a remote SQL Server DB. I am using NetBeans 5.5 and the latest J2EE. I am able to see the tables in the IDE and bind objects to data. But when I run it it gets this:
    java.sql.SQLException: Error in allocating a connection. Cause: Connection could not be allocated because: The TCP/IP connection to the host has failed. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information
    at com.sun.gjc.spi.DataSource.getConnection(DataSource.java:100)

    at com.sun.sql.rowset.CachedRowSetXImpl.execute(CachedRowSetXImpl.java:1428)
    I checked the SQL Server Configuration manager on that machine and TCP/IP connections are allowed. What else could be wrong?
    Thank You.

    "Connection refused" means that the client sends a packet saying "I would like to connect to port number NNNN please" to the server computer, and the server computer's OS sends the reply "there is no process listening to that port on the network interface you are using".
    The database server is not running, or running but not listening to TCP/IP connections, or at a different port from what you think, or listening to only selected network interfaces (it is possible for a process to listen to a specific interface or a wildcard for all interfaces). A less likely scenario is that a firewall is sending the "connection refused" message.
    First aid check list for "connection refused":
    - Check host name in connect string.
    - Check port number in connect string.
    - Try numeric IP address of server host in connect string, in case name server is hosed.
    - Are there any firewalls between client and server blocking the port.
    - Check that the db server is running.
    - Check that the db server is listening to the port. On the server, try: "telnet localhost the-port-number". Or "netstat -an", there should be a listening entry for the port. You need to configure the database to accept TCP connections; the server documentation or google should explain how.
    - Try "telnet server-host-name the-port-number" from the client, to see if firewalls are blocking it.
    - If "telnet" fails: try telnet with the numeric ip address.
    - If "telnet" fails: does it fail immediately or after an obvious timeout? How long is the timeout?
    - Does the server respond to "ping serverhost" or "telnet serverhost" or "ssh serverhost"?

    hi,
    I'm getting a java.sql.SQLException in the Bussiness Component Project Wizard. I made the connection using "Oracle JDBC Thin" and the connection works fine, then I click next to give the package name and when I click next again, I get the java.sql.SQLException runtime error and I don't see the user scott for which I created and tested the connection in the schema combo box of the next page in the "Buss Comp. I also tried it with jdk1.3 support and it didn't work. jdk1.3 was installed succefully in jdeveloper because you can see in the about dialog box.
    can someone please shed some light here. Whats weirder is that I'm following the same exampe in chapter 1 of the JDeveloper3 Handbook and thats about 40 dolloars down the drain.

  • Error connecting to database - java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Net

    Hello friends,
    I know this question has been asked in a lot of other threads; but my problem is quite unique and that's why I'm starting a new thread...
    When I try to access an Oracle 10g database through a Servlet code using a JDBC thin driver (both Tomcat and the database are running on Solaris 9), I get the following error:
    "Error connecting to database - java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection"
    However, there is another application running on the same server using the same database server (only the actual databases being used differ) and it is able to access the database without any issues. Both of these are absolutely similar applications and I couldn't think of any reasons why one would work and the other wouldn't. I thought they might be conflicting each other and tried running only the problematic application. But even then, I get the same error.
    I know this might not be too relevant but to provide you some more information on the environment, the applications are running on separate Tomcat instances on the same server and they are connected to an Apache web server through Mod jk.
    Any help in solving this problem is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Yogaesh

    Yogaesh wrote:
    The 'application' that works is also a Tomcat application... It's exactly same as the problematic application in terms of the configuration and stuff... As for the typo errors, I copied the config info and pasted it... So pretty much it should be the same. And to add an additional note, I'm able to connect to the database from my localhost... I mean if I run the problematic application from localhost (without Apache and directly hitting Tomcat) I'm able to access the screens...
    The second part of that (localhost) usually isn't all that useful. You know it is a connection failure so that means the code is running and technically successfully (since connection failure is a legitimate runtime error.)
    You know it isn't a firewall issue because it connects from another app in tomcat. So it must be a configuration issue.
    So something like one of the following.
    1. It isn't the same (we already know this but this particular item means that it is not in fact exactly the same because you deliberately or accidently modified it.)
    2. It isn't pulling the right config. Maybe you aren't packaging it, maybe it is buffered on the server and it is using that rather than what you think it is.
    3. Java code is referring to the wrong name.
    Do this, change the configuration so it points to a server that does not exist. Repack, redeploy. If the error is the same (no diff) then you know that it is not running the code that you think it is. If it does change then you know that it can only be 1.

  • How to resolve the java.sql.SQLException: OALL8 is in an inconsistent state

    Hi All,
    I am getting the SQLException "java.sql.SQLException: OALL8 is in an inconsistent state." and in finally block while I am trying to execute another operation on the same database getting another exception "java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe".
    I am using a connection from the connection pool configured in Oracle Application server. I am using the Oracle App server 10.1.3.4 and my database is Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0.
    Any help in resolving this issue would really be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    What version of the driver are you using? The "OALL8 is in an inconsistent state" exception usually indicates a problem in the protocol. When this exception occurs the protocol is broken and the connection can't be used anymore. I would suggest that you try using the 11.2.0.1 JDBC driver that you can download from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html
