Have a look here at a decent example of Web Cam capture code in JMF....
if I do say so myself :-)
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=570463
Look in initialise(), at line
formatControl = (FormatControl)player.getControl("javax.media.control.FormatControl" );That's how you get custom controls from a player.
There's also a call for in Player
java.awt.Component getControlPanelComponent() which might return an Awt component to control the TV Tuner.
So you may have to take take component, and add it to the JFrame.
If that component doesn't do it, then try iterating through
Control[] Player.getControls()
to see if there's any tv tuner control there.
Ps. that code only displays web cam video feed and grabs single photos from it. It won't record video clips. But... it's a good start.

Owen

    Is the Java "Zero-Day" bug dangerous for MountainLion users?

    It is not yet dangerous, to my knowledge, as it is currently being used only to distribute Windows malware. But users of Java 7 are certainly vulnerable, should a hacker start distributing Mac malware through this vulnerability.
    For more info, see:

  • What's up with Java Zero Day, and is Snow Leopard endangered?

    That.

    Patched or not and regardless of the version, I'd keep Java disabled, period. Best place for Java is shackled, locked up and caged.

    If you do not need Java, get rid of it, and if you do need it for specific applications or sites, limit your use of Java to those sites and applications, using a secondary browser for that purpose.

  • Java Development Tool (JavaOne)

    Hi,
    I read on this site that Sun were going to announce a development tool for beginners to code in Java at the 2003 JavaOne conference. It is meant to be similar to VB IDEs to attract VB developers also and make it similar to MS IDEs.
    Can anyone point to a download site where I can download this tool or any links for more info.
    Thanks,
    RiZ

  • UDF for last day of week/month

    Input is a Date(For example: 2010/03/12) in String  format.
    I need to extract the last day of that week and return it as a string output.
    For example if input is 2010/03/12 and thatu2019s a Thursday my output should be 2010/03/14 i.e Saturdayu2019s date.
    Similarly I need to extract last day of month too.

    Hi,
    I did not develop this one... but just use "search" button on roseindia and you will have the answer (I think):
    [http://www.roseindia.net/java/beginners/DayOfYearToDayOfWeek.shtml|http://www.roseindia.net/java/beginners/DayOfYearToDayOfWeek.shtml]
    and do not forget that Google is your friend...
    do a research with : Java last day of week, and you have plenty of examples.
    Thanks.

  • Java update 6 causing constant permission errors

    Hi Folks
    I was looking for a little more experienced thoughts about the numerous persistent permission errors caused by the last java update for apple's software update. I've read forum articles that says it's OK to ignore them. And the Apple Support KB page that list the dozens of errors that can be safely ignored. But it just doesn't feel right. I'm tempted to revert to a pre java update backup version of the OS, that repair permissions gave a clean bill of health to it's screen. My question is; By not updating java Do I have more risk than by running with all the constant errors caused this update in file permissions? In trying to learn more about java I found among other things these snippets from Boutell.Com
    However, most people do not have Java applications on their computers these days, and most websites useFlash instead of Java for the interactive features that used to be commonly written in Java.
    Removing Java on MacOS X
    Removing Java on MacOS X is not recommended as Apple has made Java a standard part of the operating system and may rely on it to a greater degree than a typical Windows system.
    What you should NOT do
    Either update Java, or remove it. Do not refuse the updates. That gives you the worst of all possible worlds: a buggy old version of Java that might be exploited by
    maliciously coded web pages.
    Just  wondering what others thought about this. And just how useful is java these days?  Is it true Java has been dropped from OS 10.7? Hopefully, Flash is on the way out too.
    Well thanks for considering this.
    Paul

    I don't see those errors, but Disk Utility cannot fix anything related to symbolic links, so all I can recommend is to ignore them. Your other option is to reinstall the OS and then run Software Update, after making a bootable backup/clone.

  • New improvement for Java syntax

    Hi developers
    I develop in java each day and the new project that I am envolved uses too much multithreading. So i thought that a litle improvement could be made on java syntax.
    When two threads uses the same class attribute we must synchronize the access to this.
    class myClass {
    private int myAtribute = 0;
    thread1: We must access the attribute synchronized....
    shynchronized (this) {
    myAttribute = 1;
    thread2: The same....
    synchronized (this) {
    myAttribute = 3;
    thread2: But if i don't care.... :-(
    myAttribute = 4;
    Ok, that is the problem.
    I thought to solve this the java language must give us the chance to declare attributes in the way...
    private synchronize int myAttribute = 0;
    to be only accesed by sinchronized methods or by synchronized blocks in order to force interpreter to check if any method access this attribute without being synchronized in compiling time.

    In your example, wouldn't the volatile keyword normally suffice?
    private volatile int myAttribute = 0;Graeme

  • Very New To Java

    Hi, I'm very new to java - 2nd day. Trying to move from Visual FoxPro.
    In testing statements to learn java, I can't seem to get java.util.Scanner.nextInt or nextDouble ... etc. to wait for a keyborad input. Is there something I have to configure before utilizing ...Scanner.nextWhatever?
    I'm using the latest java (just downloaded 2 day ago) and TextPad as my editor.
    Thanks you.

    Hi Petes1234:
    Thanks for you quick response!!!!
    The following is the code very simple ... still my "Hello World!" phase of learning.
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class ScannerApp
         static Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
         public static void main(String[] args)
              System.out.print("Enter an integer: ");
              int x = sc.nextInt();
              System.out.println("You entered " + x + ".");
    }The above code complies fine. But when I try to run it, it errors out with the following error:
    Enter an integer: Exception in thread "main" java.util.NoSuchElementException
         at java.util.Scanner.throwFor(Scanner.java:838)
         at java.util.Scanner.next(Scanner.java:1461)
         at java.util.Scanner.nextInt(Scanner.java:2091)
         at java.util.Scanner.nextInt(Scanner.java:2050)
         at ScannerApp.main(ScannerApp.java:11)
    See anyting I'm doing wrong here?

  • Maverick don't work properly with java app

    I've upgraded from lion to maverick today and had to install java again. Now one of my java apps starts just like it were before, but can't see any files throught "browse" button. It shows some folders and devices without icons (just title), and don't show other files at all (no icons, no titles). Since this app is critical for my business, I'll sell macbook if I won't fix it. How can I solve it? Can I downgrade to lion?

    rusmanson wrote:
    Yes, it's enabled. Java applet starts, and works, but file browsing through it is not working, though it works in Firefox.
    Found this on another post.  Hopefully it might help:
    To all Java users: remember that when you access a Java site, you are warned that some applets might be insecure. If you allow them to run, Safari might eventually block them anyway, because the applets are not signed or are known to have caused trouble. If you still wish to run them, do this:
    1. Go to the Safari menu and select Preferences.
    2. Click on the Security icon.
    3. Make sure that the "Enable Java Script" and "Allow Java" options are checked.
    4. Click on the "Manage Website Settings" button.
    5. Make sure to choose "Allow Always" from the dropdown menu in the window that appears near the name of the site where the applets reside. If you only choose "Allow", some applets will not run.
    Again, remember that using Java these days may pose a security threat. Whenever that happens, Apple will update the OS and disable Java.

  • Mysql database only for one java project

    Hello,
    Can anyone tell me if somehow I can connect mysql only for one java project.
    For e.g. I'm building a swing application I need to use database for some purposes. I want to have all in one. That my project will contain database only for it and nothing else. The user could not be able to connect to that mysql which I'm using for my project.
    Any ideas how to make this work?

    Paulius wrote:
    Yes. I want that the database would be implemented in my program (project). And it must be used only with this project and nothing else.Then you'll probably want to use one of the In-memory databases. There was one that came with Java these days too, JavaDB or similar I think.
    You can't embed MySQL (AFAIK) in your project.

  • Java VM Please help, Cannot remove and cannot Reinstall.

    hello, I hope somebody can help me out here, I'm at my wits end. First of all I have xp pro file system NTFS, I have AOL DSL Broad band. I have attempted to get my Java Download DAYS ago and something went terribly wrong.
    After the download I noticed that my java VM was not working so I attempted to remove it.
    The program uninstalled but not totally. In My add remove software it says this: JAVA 2 RUNTIME ENVIROMENT, SE v1.4.1_01 size 88kb.
    It has the regular change/remove but when pushed it uninstalls Then asks this: DO YOU WANT TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE SELECTED APPLICATION AND ALL OF IT'S COMPONENTS? AND INSTEAD OF ASKING YES OR NOW IT HAS ON THE BUTTONS "OK" AND "CANCEL tHEN IF YOU SELECT OK IT ACTS AS IF IT IS UNINSTALLING BUT THEN IT STAYS RIGHT WHERE IS WAS.
    With this being this way the download program will still do the download, But then states that there is already one in there, Then prompts to Would you like to uninstal this? ad then uninstals it but the same results happen, no working copy is installed.
    If I try this: START RUN COMMAND Then type in jview te computer says "view is not recognised as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file."
    If i go to the java cup in control panel, open it it reads " The system cannot find the registry key specified.: Hkey_local_machiene\software\javasoft\javaplugin\1.4.1_01"
    From what I have described, cansomebody please help me to get a working a copy of java VM in my system? Please. My whole Buisness centers around placeing items for sale on Ebay and I cannot do this with out the VM. I really need help fast.

  • Flash exploits increase as Java threats decrease

    90 per cent of Java's hackers have moved their focus to Flash:
    Almost every Java-hacking black hat is now popping Adobe Flash, after Microsoft's hard-line patch policy made it harder to target software such as Java.

    Hi,
    I'm not 100% sure if this will help, but you could have a look at two places:
    SAP Security Guides: [https://websmp210.sap-ag.de/securityguide]
      There are security guides for all applications / installations giving recommendations on how to secure the systems.
    SAP Security notes: [https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/securitynotes]
    These SAP OSS notes describe security issues in various SAP components including web applications. On monthly basis security issues and their solutions are published here
    Kind regards
    Maaike
