Java.vm.version property -- Time critical issue!

Yesterday I upgraded my Java runtime environment in response to a popup that automatically appeared. Today my code doesn't run because the system property java.vm.version is screwed up.
My program checks to see that the user's version of Java is at least at version 5. To do this, I call System.getProperty("java.vm.version") and examine the third character. Normally the value of the property is something like "1.6.0_03-b05", which indicates the JRE is at version 6. Today, the value returned is "10.0-b19", which is meaningless to me, and causes my program to exit.
Looking at all the system properties, here are some relevant ones:
java.vm.version=10.0-b19
java.runtime.version=1.6.0_05-b13
java.specification.version=1.6
java.vm.specification.version=1.0
java.version=1.6.0_05Is there a bug somewhere that is causing java.vm.version to return a weird value?
Am I simply querying the wrong property? Would it be more appropriate to query one of the other properties?
I've got about 50 users to support. If (or rather when) any of them upgrade their JRE, their copies will simply crash. I need to be proactive and address this problem before it gets critical. And if there's a bug in the release, I'm probably not the only program developer who will be caught by it.
Awaiting a prompt response...
Jerry Agin

This one caught me too. Guess I'll switch properties. I can't find any explanation of what happened to this property in Java 6.

  • Real time critical issues in  Implementation Project

    Hi friends
    Please send  me the *Real time critical issues in  Implementation and Development  Projects*
    Thanks

    Hi
    Blue Print: Assume the client is already having sound legacy system in place.
    Also assume that all the processes in FICO are neatly documented with visios.
    Now study those process flows and prepare a list of sub processes.
    Now prepare the fits/gaps/ assessment.
    If the process fits into SAP it would be a fit. If an enhancement / modification is required, it goes into the red column.
    Record all the discussions with the core users against each process and sub process.
    Also list down the dependencies for each process / analyse the integration aspects.
    Also plan how you would convert the legacy data into SAP.
    The whole document should have illustrations / scenarios and ultimately signed off. This at any cost should not be changed unless, there is a total turnaround in the process requirements.
    With the finalised blue print, you could start the activities in the implementation.
    Now regarding the interview questions:
    - Starts with your resume. How you have projected yourself. Have you shown real time experience or faked up projects. In any case, it is very easy to make out whether you have experience in implementation or support environment. You could never fool the interviewer.
    Initially the interviewer would try to make an assessment on your genuinity.
    - When did the implementation start?
    - When did it GOLIVE?
    - Were you involved in the end to end implementation or was it a partial role?
    -If you are supporting the client, who implemented SAP?
    - What tool do you use to track the support activities?
    - How many tickets have you handled so far?
    - Name some critical issues which you resolved and without which the production or business got affected?
    - What is the system landscape ?
    -Have you developed any reports / enhancements / technical / functional designs?
    - Are you aware of interfaces / ALE / IDOCs ?
    - Are you aware of SLAs
    - Rate yourself on a rank of 1 to 10 in FI and CO
    - How often have you interacted with client during implementation / support?
    - What process designs have been prepared by you?
    - How do you react when you get a critical issue or cross modular issues?
    And so on and on
    Hope this helps

    NOTE: Do not try to sync courses to the unit while the update is running or both processes will fail.

    Java isn't a part of the Mac OS X anymore, so you will need to install a version of Java. However, I don't know what version of java is required for this software. You need to explain to their support that you are using a Mac and what OS you are running. Download the latest java and see if that works.

  • The Java plugin has created a time unfriendly issue with my e-mail account, I can not open or send any e-mail without using this plugin, how can I eliminate this problem without dropping m. firefox?

    A few days ago I tried to e-mail a friend, when I started A box came up and it required me to add a plugin..Java. I contacted my e-mail courier and microsoft, they told me that is was a plugin from Mozilla Firefox. Since then I must go through Java to send or open an e-mail... this is NOT to my satisfaction, it takes too long for all of this to open and if it is not cleared , I am dropping Mozilla and going elsewhere. Why has this occurred? Is this a result of the last update? If so can I delete the last update and continue on the other version?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == last week

    Sorry, I have no idea what you mean by '''"The Java plugin has created a time unfriendly issue with my e-mail account, I can not open or send any e-mail without using this plugin,"'''.
    If you think your problem is caused by the Java plugin, you should visit the Java support forum for assistance.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/index.jspa
    If you could explain what you mean by '''"time unfriendly''' issue with my e-mail account", maybe we'll be able to help you solve that issue.
    It might be helpful for us if we knew exactly which web-mail provider you are using. It seems strange to me that viewing or sending web-mail would actually "need" Java for operation, its more likely that some other item on the web page needs Java to run some advertising or other garbage that isn't a necessary part of the web-mail functionality you want to use.

  • I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work. Help?

    I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
    ^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
    I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
    Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

    Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
    Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
    Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
    LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • O/s Win XP 64 bit - Java latest version installed but Firefox Nightly 64 bit will not recognise it after re-install 3 times & re-loading FireFox, IE does see it

    Although I had Java latest version installed and IE and Chrome recognise it, i can't get Firefox Nightly 64bit to see Java. Websites with Java functionality in Firefox report that i need to install Java.
    I re-installed 3 times, I cleaned out older Java versions and did all other steps in Firefox help articles.
    If I go to Firefox plugins page, its says the only plugin I have is Shockwave. If I select the Java option, it tells me to download and install Java - which I have done before several times.
    I have shut down and re-opened Firefox many times to get it to see Java.
    Java is installed to c:/Program Files(x86). Is Firefox looking for Java in c:/Program Files ??
    The website in question is the nVidea driver download page at http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers, where the auto-detect correct driver function is a Java function. In the end I had to use IE to run the Java function.

  • Java concurrent in real time environment

    Hi David,
    we intend to use in our implementation classes from java.util.concurrent.
    for example:
    BlockingQueue, hashMap etc... .
    i read in some documentation from 2006 that jrts not working well
    with this packages.
    is it still relevant for now???
    second question (it more request than a question):
    when we read jrts version we are getting 1.0.2 even our jrts version is 2.1.
    i guess you just need to update the version.
    Thanks
    Gabi

    Hi Lior,
    Priority inversion is about anything that can delay a high priority thread waiting for a low priority one which itself is prevented from running because middle priority threads are running. This is not only about the "synchronize" statement or "lock". This is about any scheme that allows threads to cooperate.
    When you use "synchronize", a RTSJ implementation will use PIP to ensure that the low priority thread is boosted to the high priority. This basically ensure that the delay for the high priority thread is minimized. Thus, using "synchronize" is a way to avoid priority inversion in your application, not what causes the priority inversion.
    However, when you use the locks defined in j.u.c (like java.util.concurrent.locks.ReentrantLock), the high priority thread can be blocked on that lock and will not boost the low priority thread. If there are several thread trying to acquire the lock, it is not even guaranteed that the highest priority contender will get it when it is released. Other policies like FIFO can be implemented. It might in some cases be the right policy for your application... but you must be aware of the policy if this is in the time-critical part of your application.
    Similarly, suppose you implemented the management of a resource with a java.util.concurrent.Semaphore. The low priority thread could own a resource and is expected to release() it when it no longer needs the resource. If the high priority thread needs the same resource, it has no way to boost the low priority thread to speed-up the process. In the worst case, the low priority thread could be completely preempted by other real-time threads and may never use and release the resource. This applies to all the synchronizers in j.u.c (CyclicBarrier, Exchanger, ...). This is not necessarily an issue. This may be the behavior you want.
    Last example, suppose you want to use a ThreadPoolExecutor to automatically parallelize some work. You must be aware that this does not take into account the priority of the thread that needs that job to be executed. Once again, this is OK if this work is not in the time-critical part of your application and if the thread that is waiting for the job does not own a resource that could be necessary for a higher priority thread.
    As a summary, if you use j.u.c, you must take into account the fact that there will be no boosting and no guarantee based on the priority. If you are sure that priorities do not matter, then you can use j.u.c. and benefit from these extended APIs .
    Bertrand.

    This is critical issue for us and is showstopper for Go-Live. So any kind of help is highly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    If its Java only error then there wont be any dump in ST22.
    Strange issue for you, in general if we get 500 error, there should be details of it in the same page.
    You said this issue is occuring for only one user, is it getting replicated every time?
    You are also seeing the same error when u login as that particular user?
    Do one thing, assign him the Content Admin role and then do the preview of this iView form content admin and see if ur still seeing this error.

  • Can any one share with me any two critical issues in DP support project

    Hello friends,
    I am new  to DP support project in SCM5.0 version,can any one share with  me my queries
    1.what is my support rolles and responsiblities .in DP
    2.can any one share with me any two critical issues in DP and how can you resole it

    Hi Sivaram,
    1. As a DP functional consultant you need to resolve all the incidents raised in APO DP module( Forecasting, lifecycle planning, master data in APO DP, Planning books, macros , release to APO SNP or R/3 or other systems, CVC maintenance etc) which will also include BW part of  SCM -APO related to DP, like data extraction and back up into and from infocubes. You will also support all the interfaces realted to APO DP , for the APO related part of the interface.
    You need to reoslve these incidents in the time frames defined by SLAs for the support project.
    You will have to also carry out problem management of some of the critical incidents so that incidents do not re-occur.
    Further you will have to support Release  /Change managment support( if it is part of your contract of Support project).
    This willl involve testing changes in quality system, before these are moved to production system.
    2 I found 2 crtical issues in APO DP support as below:
    2.1  Sales history extraction  data interafces from BW system used to have problems : technical problems of interface / jobs in BW running late, functional problems: sales history extract in BW not correct because various reasons
      This used to lead to delayed job runs in APO and finally delayed forecasting and ptehr DP processes .
    By proactive monitoring by BW team and taking appropriate actions for master data issues, this issue occurance frequency was reduced , but not completely eliminated.
    2.2 Another major issue was related to back up process of APO DP planning data into infocubes. Finally by splitting the jobs as per daily, weekly and monthly bakc up procedure , we were able to resolve the issue.
    I hope I have answered your queries.
    Pleasse check and confirm.
    Regards
    Datta

  • Resolve SharePoint Central Administration Critical Issues

    In the photo I have tried to fix the critical issues, but have had no luck.
    The top three issues are the most important ones i want to get rid of.
    Please provide steps to resolving these issues permanently.
    "One or more servers not responding" is a stop/start timer issue with SPTimerV4 which is relating to a specific server of mine (Portal10A). I go to this server to start SPTimerV4 in the cmd. When I start the timer, this critical
    issue goes away. However, the SPTimerV4 randomly stops again (4 hours later to a day later). Just starting the SpTimerV4 is only a temporary solution, until the SPTimerV4 stops again and I have to restart.
    Thank you!

    1. Ensure that SharePoint 2010 Timer Service is in Started mode under Start > Services.
    2. Ensure your SharePoint 2010 Timer Service is running under your Farm Account. This Farm Account must be part of your admin group and ensure that this account has admin permissions to run services.
    The farm account is also referred to as the database access account and is used
    as the application pool identity for Central Administration, and as the process account for the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 Timer service.
    Plan for
    administrative and service accounts in SharePoint (This article is also applicable to 2010 version)
    3. If both of above is already done and issue not resolved yet then restart the SharePoint 2010 Timer Service.
    4. If all above does not resolves your issue then please re-run SharePoint Configuration Wizard and restart your SharePoint Application Server.
    Please remember to click 'Mark as Answer' if the reply answers your query or 'Upvote' if it helps you.

  • Time Zone issue with 7.0 and DB2

    Hi,
    We are having a time zone issue with weblogic server 7.0 and DB2 database. I would really appreciate if somebody provides a solution for this issue.
    Our db2 DB is located in PST time zone and weblogic server is located in EST time zone.
    When we access current timestamp from db2, we are getting PST time converted to EST and EST time zone attached with timestamp value.
    I tried to use resultset.getTimeStamp (1,<calendar>), unfortunately this method is not supported in the DB2 driver version I am using.
    We want to get same value as returned by db2 with db2 time zone not weblogic server time zone.
    And also when we add new record with timestamp column through web service, regardless the time zone value sent by web service client ".Net" ,
    Weblogic server converts the java.util.Date value to weblogic time zone and stores in the db.
    For example, client sent 17:00 hours CST, but when it gets stored in db through weblogic ws, weblogic converts 17:00 to 18:00 EST and stores in database as 18:00 hours without any time zone. When we read this value back, we are getting it 18:00 EST only not 17:00 CST.
    This is fine as long as writing and reading by same weblogic server. If another weblogic server instance in PST time zone read this value, it takes as 18:00 PST.
    Due to this our application always shows timestamp hours differently.

  • Unable to Download SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Java Trial Version

    Hello,
    I've a peculiar problem here. I'm not able to download SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Java Trial Version from SDN download site. I've done this many times before with 'download accelerator plus' or 'free download manager' but this time none of these tools is working for me. When I try to download directly, the download stops or breaks somewhere midway. Has anyone here faced and corrected this problem here?
    I understand that there is a Trials, Previews & Other Downloads for discussion of these issues and I posted my issue there first a few days back but nothing usable came up. So, posting this issue here.
    Regards,
    Vishwas.

    No need to download the download manager tool. Use following FTP links to download the SAP Netweaver 7.0 Java Trial version.

  • Daylight Time Saving Issue

    Heard that majority of java base applications will be
    affected, so I am kinda wonder if coldfusion 7 MX will be affected.
    Anyone knows whether my server or agent will execute task or job
    late or early by 1 hour? I am in Malaysia, will my server be
    affected? thanks

    My CF MX 7 server has this in the CF Admin Settings Summary

    And according to the following link I should be OK.

    If you are concerned about application failures that may
    result from these DST changes, you should update your Java Runtime
    Environment. The following Java platform versions have
    correct time rules to handle the DST changes that will affect U.S.

  • Critical Issue - Locking Error - Stateless BC4J Application

    Hi,
    We are using "Stateless" mode in our BC4J project. Our View form done with Datawebbeans, Edit Form and Submit Edit Form done with Datatags. We are using Jdeveloper 3.2.
    In multi-user environment, we are noticing that if two users open the same record at the same time, for editing, it is allowing both the users to edit the same record. We expect the second user to get an error message something like "Row Has been Changed - Re-query to see the change". But its not the case.
    This is a very critical issue for us and any help from JDEV team is appreciated.
    Thank you in advance

    The following information from Jdeveloper 3.1 Help (User Guides - Developing Business Components - Understanding Transactions - About Application Modules and Transactions) might be useful:
    Client applications connect to databases and manage transactions by using the oracle.jbo.Transaction interface. Some useful methods of the Transaction interface with regard to Application Modules are:
    commit - Commit the transaction; saves all changes to the database. If the database connection is established, the transaction is implicitly started.
    connect - Attempt to establish a connection to the given database URL.
    disconnect - Disconnect the server from the database.
    **getLockingMode** - Get the preferred locking mode for this transaction. Currently the locking mode defaults to LOCK_PESSIMISTIC.
    rollback - Rollback the transaction; discard all changes.
    setLockingMode - Set the preferred locking mode for this transaction. Changing the locking mode affects only subsequent locks that are placed
    If you have an Application Module and DataSource defined with Data Tags like this:
    <%@ taglib uri="/webapp/DataTags.tld" prefix="jbo" %>
    <jbo:ApplicationModule configname="dbproject3.Dbproject3Module.Dbproject3ModuleLocal"
    id="Dbproject3Module" username="db" password="project" />
    <jbo:DataSource id="ds" appid="Dbproject3Module" viewobject="BlChangesView" >
    </jbo:DataSource>
    Then you can access the Application Module, using Java Code like this:
    jsp:useBean class="oracle.jbo.html.databeans.RowsetNavigator" id="rsn" scope="page" >
    <%
    rsn.setReleaseApplicationResources(false);
    rsn.initialize(pageContext,"JSPFrame_dbproject3_Dbproject3Module.BlChangesView");
    oracle.jbo.Row row = rsn.getRowSet().last();
    oracle.jbo.domain.Number num = ((oracle.jbo.domain.Number)row.getAttribute("ChangeCode"));
    ccode = num.intValue();
    out.println("<h2>Change Code, by webbean is: " + ccode);
    %>
    </jsp:useBean>
    Use:
    ApplicationModule am =rsn.getRowSet().getApplicationModule()
    then get the transacton with
    am.getTransaction()
    Hope this helps.

    After downloading jar I made some tests changing line <jar href="http://192.168.79.33:7070/resources/applet/formeditor.jar" /> in Jnlp file.

    When I changed it to <jar href="file:///C:/formeditor.jar"> it is not working (same exception).
    In every case jar is download correctly and it pass verifying.
    can anyone help?

    can anyone help?Search the bugs database to see if someone else already reported this; if not create a new bug entry. Whatever mistake you could make, you should not be getting a NullPointerException as a result so this is at the very least a bug in the error handling of webstart.
    But just some observations to try and see if you can make a difference (which is added input for your bug report). If I check JNLP examples, I see that the url specified is usually without a protocol, so it could be like this:
    <jar href="/resources/applet/formeditor.jar" />The JNLP should be on the host that you service the jar from, so Webstart can fill in the host information for itself.
    Also you provide a main-class; if the jar manifest specifies a main-class (and it should) you don't need to specify it in your JNLP file.
