Java3d is useless, here's why:

Sorry 'bout the ruse gentlemen (the topic I mean)
This forum doesn't seem to be very popular, I guess Java3d isn't used THAT much then.
Or are you just the quiet sort?

Anything could be useless or useful depending on your application. This forum does not always attract the most active programmers - quite frankly because most of them like myself are so excited and busy programming Java3D we do not have time to visit.
First, what do you want to do with Java3D? If you want to do like I am doing, controlling 16,000 squares each with boundries on all four sides, each with sound and each with four links to executable programs and 100MB of graphics tied to full featured multimedia advertised in a virtual city that can turn so fast you get dizzy on a 3 year old ATI Rage Fury with a 450MHz Pentium running as an APPLICATION, then I guess it is okay. (PS the entire program is only 46KB less pictures, audio and the runtime for Java2, Java3D and DirectX.)
If you are trying to run a 1MB ten frame cartoon down a 28K modem to a 486 60MHZ computer as an Applet then you may have some unhappy customers.
By the way what 3D program are you running from other companies "down the internet"? One of the best is Ultima Online but you need someone to deliver 3 CD's that run as an application not an applet.
Second if you want to take a 4MB ten second multimedia video and compress it to under 300KB and make a Java Applet out of it then I guess that should be okay also.
As I said in the beginning, what do you want to do with Java3D and maybe someone can advise you if it is possible.
Normally I do not answer such questions but I am curious why or for what purpose you would post a question worded this way? You are not going to convience someone to change to a different language, people are here to discuss java. Even if they did change language what would you benefit? By the way I program in or have programmed in virtually every language and still do. My current project uses four languages each with their specific benefit.
There is an old Chinese saying, "You know what you know, you know what you don't know, but you don't know what you don't know." A wise man (or woman) does not base their life, interaction, financial decisions or other matters on the third statement of the above saying.
Have a great day and I hope you find the answer in life you are looking for young grasshopper.

My mom on has a samsung galaxy and I have an iPod touch 5 but for some reason I can't text her. Why not?

The iPod has no native texting capability. It can send/receive messages to other suitably equipped Apple devices Via iMessage. To text to non-Apple devices, you will need to download a text App from the App Store.

  • Really need help here!-Why won't all selected Photos sync to my iPod Touch?

This is really a concern to me: I can only get about 9 months of my iPhotos to sync onto my iPod Touch - but with OS 2.x I could get all the photos-- used essentially all my free space.
I just upgraded my first generation iPod Touch (Dec 2007) to 3.1.2 - OK WiFi and apps updates working fine- but as to syncing photos: I have 15,688 photos & videos from my cameras in my iPhoto library.
I don't expect to have all the photos synced, but when I check last 12 months, only about 9 months is synced - 5899 photos and there is 4.9 gb of free space on my iPod Touch. With OS 2.x I could get more photos and it would go down to just a few mb of free space if I wished.
What is going on here? Why so much free space and yet no more photos syncing? I tried to click ALL EVENTS and that simply erased all my 5899 photos and there were NO PHOTOS. So now I went back and requested last 12 months of events (about 138 separate events from end 2008 until present) - and again, exactly 5899 photos yet still some 33% of my iPod capacity is UNused?
This is really a concern to me-- if a corrupted photo or event, then why did it work just last week when I was in iPod Touch OS 2.x?
Thanks for any suggestions here. I'm trying manual syncs and other stuff - so far no luck.

First a really big THANKS - I was not aware that this iPod Photo cache folder existed and it had grow to over 15 gb in size! (Now it is 3.85 gb in size).
BUT BUT-- problem not solved... Although I trashed that file and then re-synced my iPod Touch, it is still only going back to July 2009 with the events - not 12 months as I request; and none of the events that I checked prior to the previous 12 months are not on my iPod Touch, first generation running system 3.1.3 (7E18). I STILL HAVE 3.0 gb of available space on my iPod. Again, I never had this problem when 2.x was the OS for my iPod Touch.
The number of events seems to be exactly 51 - is that perhaps a limit? I don't think it would be but when I look inside the iPod Photo cache folder, there are 51 folders (plus 2 other items) and the folders are numbered from F00 to F50.
I would like to get to the bottom of this - not sure if I should start a new post or ??? Thanks again and any ideas or tests to run really appreciated!

  • Re: BT are beyond useless and here is why..read it...

I am having huge problems with my wireless connection, to the point where it is going to lose me work soon - as it is simply not practical to have my laptop connected to the router by an ethernet cable all the time.
A week ago, first thing in the morning, when I turned my Mac laptop on, the wireless connection had disappeared - I had not changed any settings etc. I went through the normal reconnection process, but nothing.
When I connected it via the ethernet cable I called the customer services helpline and was put through to someone who though very helpful, I found it extremely hard to understand. Over the course of the hours-long phone call (after holding for 30 mins) - he tried to access my machine remotely a number of times. Unfortunately , it kept returning a message saying "Java and Javascript must be enabled". The problem is, they are, always have been. He then kept taking me through the very basic steps for joining a wireless network, probably 30 times. He then said he would call me back the next day at 12pm - after asking me if that was midday or midnight! I never got a call back.
I have had my laptop looked at by a Mac IT specialist who has confirmed the Java is enabled - so I would question the BT remote access facility.
Last night I spoke online to another customer service rep who went through exactly the same steps, for another hour. When I said I was still getting the 'Java must be enabled' message they replied "That's bad" and promptly cut me off!
This is just not a good enough service considering what I pay a month and how long I have tolerated connection problems with this old router - it is over 5 years old and my IT person at work has said there is no doubt it needs to be replaced.
I need a new router before this loses me any more work, and would appreciate being able to speak to someone I can understand and, even better, someone who knows the Mac OSX operating system, as the BT support website only covers PCs! Surely Macs aren't that unusual these days!
Please could someone from BT get back to me to advise what I should do next, I CAN NOT spend an hour a day trying to explain the same thing OVER AND OVER!

Hi editor71 and welcome to the forum, i have a iMac myself and suffer the same issues, i'm not to sure if it's an issue with the Mac itself because it's the only computer in the house that disconnects wirelessly, or loses connection. A quick remedy for this for me was to lock the hub's wireless channel although this didn't fully get rid of the problem.
If you want to get a new hub replacement you will need to contact B.T, try tech support 0800 111 4567. Other than that, the only other thing i can suggest is that you invest possibly in some homeplugs, which is wired so to speak and saves all that ethernet cable lying around.

  • Here's why iPhone sync is failing for so many

One of the first things iTunes does during sync is try to connect to port 443 at iphonesubmissions.apple.com (that's the port for HTTP over SSL). Unfortunately, no server is responding on that port.
So, it's nothing wrong with your phone, or your Mac. It's Apple's problem.
This is why the workaround that many have suggested of disconnecting the network works. Whatever iTunes wants to do with iphonesubmissions.apple.com is not essential to syncing.

Here's another way to stop the problem, more convenient than turning off the network.
Open your home folder. Find and open "Library". In there, find and open "Logs". In there, find and open "CrashReporter". In there, find and open "MobileDevice". In there, you should find a folder named after your iPhone. It contains crash logs from when applications on your iPhone crashed. Either move this folder out of "MobileDevice" or delete it. You should then be able to run iTunes and sync normally until you next have an application crash on the iPhone.

  • HT201359 I think I'm being a bit thick here, but why is my visa charged for apps in games if I have money left on an iTunes gift card?

I want to know pease, why my visa is being charged for in game purchases, even though I have plenty of money left on an iTunes / apps gift card?

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • I don't like JavaFX script and here's why

What designers need is not a new language, but a WYSIWYG editor and interface for drawing and animating graphics and text, (including 3D in the future), which then automatically generates good old Java!! I see nothing wrong with Java e.g. Box myBox=new Box(); mybox.height=500; mybox.width=600; window.add(myBox); I see this as equally concise and simple as JavaFX, and is fully object-oriented, and as such, fully property-editable ("declarative", as you would put it). And Java is widely known. And it is hugely powerful. Why Sun thinks JavaFX will be easy for designers is beyond me, given that it's a whole new syntax! Yuck! I hope therefore that when a WYSIWYG editor comes out for creating content, that there is at least the OPTION of translating to pure Java, which is just as easy and editable in EVERY respect as JavaFX. SUN, PLEASE CONCENTRATE ON A WYSIWYG EDITOR FOR 2D AND 3D GRAPHICS, which uses pure JAVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So that we can make fully object-oriented applications and design them easily but have ONE scheme of communication rather than the ActionScript/MXML mess that is Flash, or the C#/XAML mess that is WPF/Silverlight!!!!!!!!!!!
Sun, promote your Java, don't destroy it! I can't help but think you made JavaFX because of the crappy Flash/MXML and Windows/XAML schemes, when you should have realised all along that Java is better and that by making a 2D and 3D graphics WYSIWYG editor, designers will absolutely love it and will be producing content immediately!! And.. we as developers NEED PURE Java.

muchacho wrote:I don't agree with your propose to a Java extension, I don't want Java to become more complex or bloated as C#.If you're talking about the code itself, it's less bloated, not more bloated, and its level of complexity is the same. As for the language, it's the exact same syntax as array declaration, so I disagree that it bloats or complicates Java given that it is a logical extension to array declaration.
This is unlike e.g. C++ where the plethora of features can make code difficult to read.
It is obviously only an option for coders, but where it is used, it makes the Java easier to read, not more difficult to read.
If it was up to me, I'd implement the array declaration syntax to be extended to include objects immediately, since I'm beginning to think that I'd really like to use this way of starting objects!! Not just for GUIs, but all over Java!! It'd certainly make my Java more fun and readable!
Here's the problem I have with the idea of JavaFX "complementing" Java: redundancy. Many features of JavaFX are in Java and vice versa. Therefore they are not complementary languages but compete directly. This is not a bad thing at all, but if they truly pursue JavaFX, they should ensure that both JavaFX and Java have full and complete functionality and full API access, so nobody can have a single regret if they go with either platform. For example: if I use Java I don't want to miss out on a Java API adaptation of the "bindable" functionality, or easy use of callbacks, and if I use JavaFX I don't want to miss out on fully object oriented functionality and structure, and access to ALL Java APIs, including third party and all old ones.
If that happens, as it should, then I want JavaFX everywhere, including server side, and I won't touch Java again, including for 3D games, media applications, business systems, etc. etc., server and client side. I'd literally make the complete switch, because I'd much prefer to develop in one language than two. And I would also recommend JavaFX to others if they enquire and if they are starting from scratch because of some of its nicer features. It would have all the same functionality and performance anyway if Sun ensures it, right? And then I'd like to see it re-named something original like "Sun MagicScript" for its first official release because I don't think "JavaFX" really demarks it as a new and proper language, which it is.
Then I would become a real "MagicScript" FAN and convert!! And I won't look back!
If it doesn't offer the full object-oriented functionality or full API access as Java, or to be extra-safe, they should ensure that the WYSIWYG editor generates pure Java very, very well, as well as to cater for the existing Java-ites and scared people, allowing the option of both Java and "MagicScript" generation. I also truly look forward to this WYSIWYG editor (with the features I've described earlier) as my main request!
    All the very best!! :)

  • I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why

I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
    must share
my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
    home over my
128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
    because it
was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
    a little too
many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
    the way to
the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
    the darn
ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
    Windows users
who like to work on the console of servers.
    And check this out:
line 118 in my install log file at :
    /usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
    says :
    platGroup = WINDOWS
And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
    that Linux
users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
    from Windows
programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
    able to send
their video display to any computer around the world and work
    from there.
A feature every Linux user takes for granted
There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
    of Oracle
8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
    2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
    Typical, Minimal and Custom.
Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
    Typical (585 MB).
Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
    to install
    using the minimal install.
    3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
    available on the /
partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
    not have
    enough space.
    4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
    database
from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
    stuff under
    /mnt/cdrom
    5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
    points /u01 /u02
/u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
    specify them
like I was able to, with the last release.
    6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
    options at
all. What happened to good ole Net8?
And many others. This product is a joke.

My sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
installation of this release that I have just about given up.
And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
    the way.
Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
    1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
    can't find it.
    2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
    dbmssml.sql.
    3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
    agent
    4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
    5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
    in 12 years.

  • My Apple Password is not working on my iPhone but I was able to log in here. Why

Why is my password not working on my phone. Did something change after the software update?

Are these two networks the only networks you connect your iPhone with or try to? Any problem connecting to any other network besides the one at work?
The network is not shown as being available to select, or the network is available to select and when selected there is no connection? If the latter, any error message provided?
Have you spoken with the IT person or Dept. that is responsible for the network?

  • My experience with Verizon - Horrible - here's why

I had been a customer with Verizon Wireless since 2008.  During my time as a customer, service was just ok but I always had service at my home (home office) and at my corporate office.  Two of the most important places I needed service. That was until November of 2013 when service at my home and office was no longer consistent or available at all.  I had an Android phone so I asked my wife what her service was like in both places since she had an i-phone.  She experienced the same service problems.  My wife and I both tried to work with Verizon to resolve the issue.  Verizon's response..."I see our computer shows service in those areas so there should not be a problem."  My wife and I continued to explain to them for 2 months that yes there once was service and then like a switch there was none.  I don't care what the computer says there is NO service.  Verizon would NOT send someone out to verify service despite requesting them to do so.  After 2 months of frustration Verizon offered a solution "you can put a signal booster in your house for an additional $40 a month."  I did NOT want to pay extra money to restore service where I once had it.  This was a change in service on Verizon's end which created a hardship in me doing business so after two months we came to an agreement that we may cancel our contract and would not be charged for the remaining 4 months.  My wife and I canceled our service and went with another provider.  Following the cancellation we received a letter in the mail stating that we owed early termination fees!  I called Verizon stating that I was assured that I would NOT be charged these fees.  Verizon reassured me that was the case and that we needed to wait for the official bill before they could offer the credits.  Our bill came...I called Verizon regarding the credits...they flat out LIED and said we do not have any record showing we were going to offer you credits.  It has been a constant battle since then and they have now sent my bill to collections.  Fed up with dealing with this almost a year later and trying to repair the damage Verizon has done to my credit score I agreed to pay the bill with a "pay for delete option".  Verizon's refused.  The collection agency then sends me a letter for a settlement offer of 65% of the amount owed. Before scheduling the payment I called Verizon to ensure that if I accept this offer that they would report that the account was "paid in full".  Verizon said YES they would report the account as paid in full.  I called back and schedule the payment for 1 week out.  I DO NOT trust Verizon due to the flat out lies and deceptive way they handled my cancellation so the week gave me a chance to get the "paid in full" reporting status in writing. Once I requested this Verizon back peddled AGAIN and said they would not send the letter and when I pressed the issue they stated that the account would be reported as "settled for less then amount owed".  This is VERY different in the eyes of future lenders so canceled my scheduled payment.  Verizon CAN NOT BE TRUSTED for anything that they say. They will LIE and delete notes on your account to get things their way.  If you choose to (or have to) do business with Verizon get EVERYTHING in writing.     I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH VERIZON!  THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH.

I could not have said it any better VERIZON WILL LIE WITHOUT RESERVATION. THEY ALTERED RECORDS IN CONNECTION TO AN ISSUE I HAD WITH THEM, THEY LIED REPEATEDLY, I KNOW THEY HAVE FLAGGED ME AS A 'PROBLEM CUSTOMER' AND WHEN I CALL THEY ADJUST THEIR TREATMENT OF ME ACCORDINGLY. CALLS MYSTERIOUSLY DROP WHEN TALKING TO REPS, THEY MAKE ME HOLD FOR EXTENDED PERIODS HOPING I WILL HANG UP. NO OTHER COMPANY I HAVE DEALT WITH LIES AS OFTEN OR IN AS MANY WAYS AS THIS COMPANY. THEIR INSOLENCE ONLY HARDENS MY RESOLVE, IF ONLY OTHERS WERE PERSISTENT BEEDS TO CALL UT ALAS. SOMEONE SOMEWHERE NEEDS TO CALL THEM ON IT ONCE IN AWHILE.

    Hi Jeff,
    Thanks for following up.
Slowly I am learning about what is going on with my problem. I need to first further clarify my problem for you. I am new to both my iMac and its Version 10 of Photoshop. When I bought the CD set I thought that the term "premiere" referred to both Adobe Photoshop (stills) and Premiere (movies). Now I understand that it only refers to the movies. So, my problem rests with Photoshop. As just mentioned have just acquired my iMac and it does not seem to have a screen shot application. However, would you please take a look at the Tools panel in Photoshop? The icons for the brush tool, the eraser tool, and the smart brush tool all have a tiny black triangle in the lower right corner of the icon. It is my understanding that when I click on the eraser tool and should see three more icons pop up. They do not. So what is wrong? That is the source of my frustration with the product. I can't duplicate some of the instructions that I see in my book.
Again, thank you for your follow up.
    David

  • Column Not Allowed Here? Why?

    CREATE TABLE course_location(
         venue_id number(6),

         county varchar2(16),
         PRIMARY KEY (venue_id)
    INSERT INTO course_location (venue_id, street_address, postal_code, county)
    VALUES (162, '9 Illing Way', 'PO13 3HA', Hampshire);

    VALUES (19, '10 Soul Lane', 'GU21 7TA', Berkshire);

'Hampshire' - this is a string literal
Hampshire - this is an identifier, probably a column name (of course there is no column called HAMPSHIRE in your table, but even if there was one it cannot be referenced here).
    Do you see the difference?
    You are missing ' '.
Yes, I agree - the error message could be more human-friendly :)

  • Here Maps: Why is the Satellite View resolution so...

Just got a Lumia 820. Here Maps Satellite View is dreadful. I can't identify anything - all I get is blurs in different colours. Have I got a setting wong?

    Hi rayhipkiss,
gMaps looks good - many thanks.
I downloaded Google Maps on to my Nokia 820 earlier, & I found it to be similar to the built-in Nokia/Here Maps, in that the satellite resolution was good over large cities, but poor elsewhere. This is in contrast to the PC version of Google Maps, which appears to give consistently good quality over the whole country (England). Are there different versions of these programs for PC & mobile users?
    Regards,
    Peter.

  • HT2736 What if my friend is from a different region and this app is OK to be used in her country, why can't she download it after I have gifted it?

I had bought Whatsapp for my girlfriend and sent the gift via e-mail. She received it, but she can't download it as it says:
"This code is only valid for customers of the United Kingdom store"
And she lives in Ukraine. What should I do in this situation? Should I just ask her to change her region in iTunes?
    Thank you in advance!

Apparently you missed this on the page where you entered in the recipient's name:
Keep that in mind for future gifts. It is not allowed for someone outside of the UK to use the UK iTunes Store even if they have a gift code.
    Regards.

  • ITunes 12 is flawed - Here's why.

So, my Dad came up to me this morning, and asked me to put a few songs on his iPad. I said sure, why not? How difficult could it be? Boy, did I know how difficult this seemingly simple stuff could be.
I had the music already ripped off a few CD's he purchased a few years back. When Dad first bought his iPad, I synced it with my laptop. I now have a new PC. First, I dragged the songs into my library. I then connected the iPad, but nothing showed up in iTunes 12 (Which is possibly the worst iTunes, by the way - I'd rather have buggy 11). I did some googling, and turns out just to get the sidebar showing so I can go to the iPad, I need to go to edit > preferences > devices > and tick the box that prevents devices from syncing. I then need to go to music > playlists, and the iPad will show there. Sweet! Now all I have to do is sync the iPad... right? Nope. Because the iPad was last synced to my old PC, I need to backup and restore. Sure, won't take long. (This doesn't make any sense either, as both PC's were connected to the same iTunes account.) So I backup, and turns out I have maxed out my authorised devices. Rightio, so a bit annoyed that I still can't sync this iPad, I head over to the iTunes store, and login to my account, and promptly click on de-authorise all. I backup the iPad, and authorise the account with the iPad. The backup then stops, and asks me to unlock the iPad. Um, sure? I call Dad, get the password, and the backup finishes. Cool, all done. I click "restore" which then insists on downloading 900mb for an update to "the latest, fastest iOS to date!" Once downloaded (an hour later, crappy Australian internet), I click restore. Error. Need to unlock the iPad again. I do it. The iPad finishes restoring, and I drag the songs on the iPad. Wait, wrong format, I need MP4. I download a free audio converter, and convert from WMA to MP4. I re-drag into the library, and sure enough, duplicates of each song show. I delete all the songs, and redrag all the songs into the library. I sync - wait, I need iCloud turned off on Dad's iPad to properly sync with iTunes, I go to iCloud settings on the iPad, and try to turn it off. I now need an ICLOUD PASSWORD for a seperate account. Dad and I don't know the password. I give up.
I think of myself as a rather tech savvy 17 year old, and this was almost too hard for me. Imagine the 50 year old's with iPad's that don't even know what sync means? Poor guys.
Could you make it any more difficult, Apple?
