JavaFX in Linux?

Hello,
Some months ago I decided to migrate from C# to Java.
So I decided to change others things too like from Sql Server to Postgre/Oracle
and from Windows to Linux. As I noticed I was free from Microsoft (just joke :))
Everything was GREAT!!!!
Today I thought "I'm taking a look on JavaFX", I've got surprised! It doesn't work
on Linux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel disappointed.
Does somebody know whether it will there is soon?
Thanks

As a followup... here is the information: Credit for this is posted on the bottom from a poster on Jonathan Schwartz's blog:

To those that complain that JavaFX is not available for Linux and Solaris, it is available, just unofficially. Granted, you have to jump through a fair number of hoops to get it working:
Linux:
http://www.weiqigao.com/blog/2008/12/04/using_javafx_1_0_on_linux.html
Solaris (I tried this myself and it works!):
http://blogs.sun.com/observatory/entry/javafx
So those who call for Sun to release JavaFX on Linux and Solaris, please try it out.
On the other hand, Sun should be careful not to alienate its Java open source community, since it plans to open source all (or most) of JavaFX, and will definitely need a community of maintainers outside of Sun.
So Jonathan, one suggestion is that Sun could make easily installable, but clearly labelled "beta" versions of the SDK and IDE (Netbeans and Eclipse) plugins for Linux and Solaris. This should be an acceptable comprimise both for the JavaFX engineers who don't think that it's ready on those platforms, and the open source community that eagerly wants to get their hands on those tools.

  • JavaFX on linux

    When using JavaFX on ubuntu, if I run evry prgram is gives me this warning in Netbeans Terminal
    (java:....):Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in the module_path: "pixmap"
    And some CSS style dose'nt apeare I don't know why.

    Why can't SUN just release what they have as an EA for Linux. It is really a shame SUN does lock out all the un*x users. Why would they want to do that?
    I do meet more and more good developers that have ditched Windows for either Mac or Linux. Not to many OpenSolaris folks, yet. Push OpenSolaris with releasing JavaFX EA for it :-)
    Seriously, if you already have a build for that platform, put a EA stamp on it and release it. What can you loose?
    If there is a lot of bugs in it that get reported there is obviously a lot of interest.

  • JavaFx on Linux 2.4.26/ARM9 Processor/200MHz/32MB RAM

    Hi,
    I am new to JavaFx technology, I would like to know whether I can have JavaFx on a Linux kernel 2.4.26 (no other commercial distribution), it is a touch screen based navigation system runs on a ARM9 processor (200MHz, 32MB RAM).
    While searching, I found that JavaFx is supported on Linux platforms, but I couldn't find any reference to my particular version of Linux (Linux kernel 2.4.26). Is it possible to install and run JavaFx on this machine? Also please tell me whether standard JavaFx or JavaFx mobile is more suitable for this system.
    regards
    Jamsheer

    I don't see this behaviour neither on the machine with intel video nor on the machine with nvidia.
    No average load changes or memory usage increase. I don't have Arch kernel installed though only custom from sources.
    You can find reports with increased load issues, but I never had this problem. It seems as these were related to specific hardware (AMD?) and kernel bug(?).

  • JavaFX 1.1 for Linux

    Hi,
    Is there a date to available JavaFX 1.1 for Linux?
    I use Fedora 10 + JDK 1.6.13 + NetBeans 6.5.

    They just supported (Open)Solaris and Linux, now you can download the JavaFX SDK linux version from the official site, for more information please read this article:

  • JavaFX crashes X Server

    Background/Context:
    I'm currently developing a touch screen application which is aimed to run on Linux. As a development framework I chose JavaFX (jdk1.7.0_10) due to its rapid prototyping easiness. I'm using Arch Linux (kernel 3.6.10-1-ARCH) distribution and since JavaFX needs a head-full environment to run, I installed Xorg on top of the base configuration. Even thought I'm able to run my JavaFX application, I have some issues with popup windows that are being displayed in my application.
    When trying to display those popup windows, sometimes they don't respond as expected or event worse, they crash my application. The error I get is the following:
    The program 'java' received an X Window System error.
    This probably reflects a bug in the program.
    The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
    +(Details: serial 51101 error_code 9 request_code 62 minor_code 0)+
    +(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;+
    that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
    +To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line+
    option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
    backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
    By the way, when running the same application on Windows (my development machine), everything works fine.
    I also tried to run a composite manager ('xcompmgr') since i was also getting some warnings like
    Can't create transparent stage, because your screen doesn't support alpha channel. You need to enable XComposite extension.
    but it didn't helped.
    Question:
    Am i missing some files or configurations in order to run smoothly JavaFX in Linux, or has any one encountered the same challenge? Since my main concern is performance (due to limited hardware specs), I don't want to install a full featured Linux distribution. I only need to run my JavaFX application.

    Hi,
    This error affect me. I am using Ubuntu 13.04
    java version "1.7.0_21"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_21-b11)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.21-b01, mixed mode)
    I run javafx Ensemble.jar. When I tried to search in the top right search box the following error appears:
    The program 'java' received an X Window System error.
    This probably reflects a bug in the program.
    The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
    (Details: serial 536 error_code 9 request_code 55 minor_code 0)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
    that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
    To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
    option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
    backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
    Is there something I can do to fix that?

  • JavaFX 1.3 + Ubuntu 9.10 + JDK 1.6_20 + Netbeans 6.9

    Hi Guys,
    Im having a hard time here trying to get JavaFX 1.3 + Ubuntu 9.10 + JDK 1.6_20 + Netbeans 6.9 to work together.
    First I installed Ubuntu 9.10 then I downloaded the JDK and installed it on my /opt, after I've downloaded the JavaFX 1.3 and installed it also on /opt, finally I installed netbeans
    on my .bashrc I added
    JAVA_HOME=/opt/jdk1.6.0_20/jre
    JAVA_BIN=$JAVA_HOME/bin
    PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_BIN:/opt/javafx-sdk1.3/bin/
    export JAVA_HOME
    export JAVA_BIN
    export PATH
    Made a symbolic link to my /usr/bin of javafx javafxc and javafxpackager
    My problem is, when I create a netbeans' javafx project, its complain it cant find java command, because JAVA_HOME is not set
    but If i create a JAVA app using netbeans it compiles and run without complain about java
    some commands I used on ubuntu's console
    echo $JAVA_HOME
    /opt/jdk1.6.0_20/jre
    java -version
    java version "1.6.0_20"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode)
    javafx -version
    javafx 1.3.0_b412
    and using console i can compile a simple fx programan and run
    javafxc Test.fx
    javafx Test
    It works
    how can I solve that?
    here some extra info about the files I used
    jdk-6u20-linux-x64.bin
    installion was
    cp jdk-6u20-linux-x64.bin /opt
    chmod a+x jdk-6u20-linux-x64.bin
    sudo ./jdk-6u20-linux-x64.bin
    javafx_sdk-1_3-linux-i586.sh
    same as jdk
    netbeans-6.9beta-ml-linux.sh or netbeans-6_9-beta-javafx-1_3-linux (I've downloaded both and tryed both)
    same as jdk

    Hi,
    experiencing with manual install for JDK+Netbeans on Ubuntu 10.04 I found the following:
    -Editing your .bashrc is indeed enough to get Netbeans installed/started but JAVA_HOME error occurs when running JAVAFX project (same error as you have).
    -Copying your config from .bashrc to .profile permits to run JAVAFX projects like a charm (but don't ask me why)
    Just note that if you use Ubuntu 64 bits you can forget running multimedia project (even with a 32-bits JDK), only Ubuntu 32 bits + 32 bits JDK will do.
    Hope this helps

  • Java Fx Linux release update

    Hi all, I was wondering if I could get a status update on the progress of the official JavaFx for Linux?

    Hi Josh,
    I actually read that after looking around a bit. I was just suggesting that you state something on the downloads page that its under way. As it is now, it looks as if there is no plan to support either platform. Also , you must get tired of answering this question :-)

    .... and the nbms from
    http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.5/uc/final/stable/patch2/javafx2/
    There seems to be an issue with the JavaFX Platform module and - "No plugin providing the capability javafx.sdk.v1_1 could be found".
    Has anyone managed to to get this to work?
    This whole javafx linux (netbeans) problem is becoming a real pain

  • Swing component prohibits loading web applet?

    Hi all,
    I imported a JFilechooser using this java class:
    import javax.swing.JFileChooser;
    public class FXfilechooser {
    public static JFileChooser create() {
    JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser();
    return fc;
    } {color:#ff6600}FXfilechooser.java{color}
    and then I use it in the .fx file using the SwingComponent.wrap() metho like this:
    import javafx.scene.*;
    import javafx.stage.*;
    import javafx.ext.swing.*;
    import javafx.scene.text.Text;
    import javafx.scene.text.Font;
    import javafx.scene.control.Button;
    var fc =FXfilechooser.create();
    var fcComp=SwingComponent.wrap(fc);
    Stage {
    title: "File Chooser Sample"
    width:800
    height:600
    scene: Scene {
    content: [
    Text {
    font : Font {
    size: 24*
    x: 10, y: 30
    content: "Text"
    Button {
    layoutX:50
    layoutY:150
    text: "Browse"
    action: function() {
    fc.showOpenDialog(fc);
    }{color:#ff6600}graphUI.fx{color}
    When I run the project in Netbeans it works perfectly, but when I run it in the web browser I get only a grey box.
    So I did a little test and changed the {color:#ff6600}graphUI.fx{color} to this one:
    import javafx.scene.*;
    import javafx.stage.*;
    import javafx.ext.swing.*;
    import javafx.scene.text.Text;
    import javafx.scene.text.Font;
    import javafx.scene.control.Button;
    Stage {
    title: "File Chooser Sample"
    width:800
    height:600
    scene: Scene {
    content: [
    Text {
    font : Font {
    size: 24
    x: 10, y: 30
    content: "Text"
    Button {
    layoutX:50
    layoutY:150
    text: "Browse"
    action: function() {
    var fc =FXfilechooser.create();   // create and wrapping moved in the action function
    var fcComp=SwingComponent.wrap(fc);
    fc.showOpenDialog(fc);
    }{color:#ff6600}modified graphUI.fx{color}
    When I run this in the browser, I can see the button now and the text, but the filechooser dows not appear when I click the button.
    I tested this in linux and windows using FF.
    Any suggeestions?

  • Getting GTK error while running javaFX application on linux

    I developed an JavaFX application that works fine on Windows. So, I tried to run this same application on Linux (ubuntu x86) and it is not working. I setup all the environment with following this article : http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2.0/release_notes_linux/jfxpub-release_notes_linux.htm. The Sample JavaFX applications available at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javafx/downloads/devpreview-1429449.html work great on Linux. But when I run my application, I got this error:

    Lack of Mac & Linux Support Hurting Javafx 2.0 Early Adoption and traction.
    Oracle needs to come out with a Mac & Linux Beta built, or let developers know the real story behind Mac OS and Javafx 2.0.

    I too would like to at least be able to try the Mac/Linux ports, even knowing that they are behind the Windows version. But just knowing that Oracle is committed to them is enough to ease any nervous feeling that I'm choosing the wrong tech.
    I have no problems with the fact that Oracle is concentrating on Windows first. It makes sense. If you have to pick one platform to focus on while you are getting the kinks out, it makes sense for it to be the most popular platform. That's Windows. But there mustn't be too long of a wait for the others. (E.g. if they were in a public beta stage when the Windows version is at final release, that would help boost confidence in the platform.)
    So long as they don't make the same mistakes that were made with Swing, where there are too many assumptions that all platforms work the same - so things like Mac's screen menu bar had to be fit in after the fact by Apple using awkward hacks. (I notice that now even popular Linux distros (Ubuntu) are using the screen menu bar concept, though they have managed to fit that into the window manager in such a way that it didn't seem to cause much problems.)

  • How to install JavaFX 1.1 on Linux

    Hi all,
    I would like to add some notes here.
    The Mac SDK worked well for the JavaFX 1.01 (mount and using .dmg file). Now with the current version of JavaFX, mounting the .dmg file, is no longer possible. Instead you can use a .nbm file containing the Mac SDK (yes !).
    Installing plug-ins on NetBeans 6.5 (or even 6.7M2) and on Eclipse are not very difficult. There are some points to be aware of. That's it.
    I have post on my own Blog (French, some are in English) a step by step instructions (with a lot of screen-shots) for installing :
    http://java-javafx-iipt.blogspot.com/
    JavaFX 1.1 (stand alone compiler)
    JavaFX 1.1 NetBeans Plug-in
    JavaFX 1.1 Eclipse Plug-in
    Hope this is helpful for Linux Users :)

    but Line 1 does not load a image under Linux ?!?
    What is the reason for that? any help?

    Hi raychen and Company
    ok, this is big trouble. I tested it under Windows XP SP3 and Fedora 12.
    The Image URL does not work equal under both system
    Windows: url: "file:/
    Linux: url "file://
    so much for the Java VM makes it system independable, NOT.
    Any workaround?

    We need *a lot* more info than that. Could be something very simple, like the interface being up before starting wifi-menu (netctl doesn't like the interface being up, it'll only start correctly if the interface is down).
    Or it could be something more. In which case, you'll need to start wpa_supplicant manually with debugging enabled:
    wpa_supplicant -i wlp18s0b1 -c <(wpa_passphrase MYSSID passphrase) -d
    Once this says you're connected, open another terminal and start dhcpcd. Or, if wpa_supplicant doesn't manage to connect, post the *entire* output.
    Edit: Ok, you posted more info as I was writing my post. Will look through that, maybe it contains something useful. If not, follow the instructions above.
    Edit2: Nope, nothing about wireless in there, except that the driver loaded.
    It worked!!
    I was looking into the logs and found an authentication failure...my password is very long so I made some mistakes while typing it.
    So this is the solution all the way:
    SOLUTION:
    - No need to install or load any external drivers (all I used was already in the base installation)
    - DISABLE THE HIDDEN NETWORK OPTION IN THE ROUTER (thanks for the heads-up @Gusar)
    - run "# wifi-menu"
         or
           "# wpa_supplicant -i [interface] -c <(wpa_passphrase MYSSID passphrase) -d"
    - run "# dhcpcd [interface]"
    - Good to go!!
    I'm sorry for the trouble guys, and like I imagined, it was really easy and now I see my newbiness hahaha ;D
    Thanks.
