IOS 5 Safari JavaScript execution exceeded timeout

I am working on a mobile web app that is primarily self-contained and communicated with the server only when necessary. Currently, the libraries being used are:
- jQuery 1.6.4
- jQuery UI 1.8.3
- Modified/patched version of jQTouch
Up until the release of iOS 5 we were also using touchscroll.js but it is no longer needed since Safari now supports position: fixed and native scrolling.
Since the release of iOS 5, seemingly at random, this exception is raised:
    JavaScript: Error undefined JavaScript execution exceeded timeout
Once it is raised, no JS code that runs for more than a *very* short period of time (say 1ms) will be executed by Safari. Refreshing the page, going to a new page, or going to a new domain has no effect. Any and all JS code, even something as simple as
    for(var i = 0; i < 30; i++) ;
will not be executed by the browser without the exception being raised. The only way around this is to force kill Safari and restart it. I suppose it is also possible to wrap any remotely "heavy duty" code in the application in a window.setTimeout(..., 1) or take advantage of Web Workers for everything but UI updates but that doesn't seem like a very good solution as the application is fairly large and it would require a substantial rewrite.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? How would you go about debugging something like this as it isn't any single piece of code that seems to put Safari into this broken state and it can happen seemingly at random?
I tried to figure out what the timeout of the JS engine is in mobile Safari by doing the following:

Unfortunately it seems this timeout exception isn't a JS exception so it cannot be caught in a try/catch block; however, it appears the max timeout period is in the realm of several seconds. None of the code in our app locks the browser/JS engine for that long (as it would provide a terrible UX) and most if not all of it probably has a sub 300ms execution time (including anything that's "heavy duty").

Just suppose, for the sake of argument, that you are absolutely correct. This is a bug the Apple introduced in iOS 5 and it breaks your app. Will Apple release a fix for it next month? Unlikely. Next quarter? Maybe, maybe not. 2015? My oldest Apple bug report is dated "04-Apr-2008 06:39 PM".
It is an imperfect, competitive world. If you don't want to work around the bugs, all that does is give that opportunity to someone else.

Javascript security problem in IE/Netscape

I am facing with the javascript security problem in IE/Netscape. I have solved this problem partially, but there are more issues involved.
Here's the scenario:
There is an HTML page on client's hard disk (main.htm) containing two frames:
frame 1 contains a page that lies that is deployed from my server, say
src="http://127.0.0.1:8080/MyApplication.htm"
frame 2 contains a page that lies on the client's server, say
src="http://www.clientside.com/clientPage.htm"
My page in frame 1 wants to access the URL of the page in frame 2 (through a button click, say ). This is done in MyApplication.htm through javascript as:
window.parent.frame2.location.href;
Now when the above line is executed, i get the following error:
In IE(5.0): "permission denied"
In Netscape(4.7): "access disallowed from scripts at http://127.0.0.1:8080/MyApplication.htm to documents at another domain."
(which is understandable)
I have partially solved the above problem in Netscape, by granting access permissions to MyApplication.htm (page on my server) to access the
"http://www.clientside.com/clientPage.htm" page at client's domain.
This is done as follows:
1. First enable code base principals in client's Netscape by adding the following line in prefs.js file of Netscape
"user_pref("signed.applets.codebase_principal_support", true);"
2. Secondly i must add the following line in java script of "MyApplication.htm"
"netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege("UniversalBrowserAccess");"
Now when the client clicks the button on my frame he'll get a netscape window asking him to grant permissions to MyApplication.htm.
After granting permission, MyApplication.htm can retrieve the URL of clientPage.htm (even if he browses to another url)
As you can see this problem is solved partially, but i want that the page "main.htm" (which is now on the client's hard disk),
must be deployed at client's server (in which case not even the above technique works).........what should i do? any alternates or other solution?
Secondly i want this to work with IE too, (which should according to their documentation, but does not and is therfore a big IE bug-as mentioned on the net)
Any sort of help in this case would greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to put a hard limit on how much CPU is used by JavaScript execution?

Even today, there are tons of Web pages with JavaScripts on them that seem to peg the CPU usage. Usually, the browser will completely freeze for a while (15 seconds, and it won't respond to clicks whatsoever - the only thing possible during that time is to terminate or kill it). It will always recover from said hang. About 30-40% of the time, there will be a dialog that offers to stop execution of the script.
It has a checkbox that says "don't ask me again", which I checked... but it seems that Firefox takes that as "don't terminate scripts ever", not "whenever this dialog box is about to be displayed, take this marked check as my implicit approval to halt the script without asking."
I'm not completely sure if it's something to do with the engine itself, the pages, or something else, but I'm wondering if such an option exists.

Javascript menu problems in IE

Hi
I am using a javascript menu for a website I am trying to
build, I have tested it on many browsers and thought it was working
fine, it's fine on all the macintosh browsers, works fine on
firefox on the PC but there seems to be problems on some versions
of IE. Especially runing XP but am not sure about vista.
You dont seem to be able to see the menu when the page loads,
you can see something is there and the buttons show when you hover
over them, but they are kicked out of place.

Package execution problem with SQLSERVERAGENT

I'm having a problem with the execution of SSIS packages: I created locally a package with SQL Server Data Tools, then I deployed it on my server in the SSISDB database. Then I created a job to execute periodically this package with SQL Server Agent. The
package works fine and does everything I want, but I always get a failed notification. In the global view of the execution I can see:
Result: "failed"
Package name: "Package.dtsx"
Task name: "Package"
Execution access path: "\Package"
Every other task returns a success and their execution access path is a subfolder of "\Package". I tried everything I found on the web, check the "Runtime 32bits" box, create a "Job Account" user to execute the package via a
"Job Account Proxy", modify the ProtectionLevel of the package to "DontSaveSensitive", give the "Job Account" user full rights on everything, nothing works.
Do you have an idea of what my problem is and how to solve it?
I must precise that all my packages do the same thing: I have a loop on all the csv files in a folder that for each file loads the contents of the file in my database and the delete the file. I observed that the error message do not appear when there is
no file in the folder when the package executes.

So, here is in short: the ForEach Loop once in its beginning of operation "senses" the files currently present in the working folder. If a new file arrives after this stage, it will not see it.
In your case it seems that the ForEach "saw" a file at the beginning, but it was gone at the time the processing wanted it for execution.
Like many above indicated, the common practice, call
it elegant or not is to indeed move the files to a different directory (working folder). This is done to avoid collisions with some other activity in that folder.
Furthermore, you can have all the files deleted using a ForEach against the working folder as say in

itself.
The job is run in SQL Server's Agent
need to be set to run using a domain proxy account as it needs write access to the file system.

Command line program execution problem.

Hey there, I'm about to complete my Java thesis project, but I can't fix a problem: i have to find a command line programme (which is in python but i think its not a big deal) through a java programme. Getting some information around I ended up i could execute the program with the command:

and create the streams:
OutputStream out = proc.getOutputS 14.49
InputStream in = proc.getInputStream();
the problem is that calling a programme which prints on screen something and then it ends (ex. ipconfig) the following sequence works out:

instead in the specific case of the programme that i need to execute it canno't work because this programme after its opening prints a couple of lines, at this stage you need to type the input in and when the eof font is sent the output is printed. i've tried to send the input thru OutputStream but the execution gets stuck when it reads the output (in.read());
Can you guys help me out? What do i need to do? Please it's very important, let me know ASAP.

I would not recommend the use of raw "InputStream" for much of anything.
Try Scanner if you can use JDK5, if not, try BufferedReader.
Scanner:

JavaScript Console Problem (only in LS preview mode)

Hello,
my JavaScript console "crashes" in preview-mode in lifecycle designer. It just appears for a "millisecond"´, well I see it flicker at last.
It doesn't matter if there is a syntax error or if I try to start the console by clicking a button ( Event click => console.show(); )
The console just flickers.
If I save the pdf file everything works fine. Console shows up on errors or if it told to do so (e.g. my button is clicked).
I cannot afford to save the pdf-file every time for some reasons (livecycle designer is used in sap gui, I have to run the whole process to get the PDF ...)
By the way, the same problem is present in Livecycle Designer if I use it "native", not called from within the sap.
I have already tried to close the acrobat reader tasks. There are two of them, when adobe reader 10 starts (native or in livecycle-preview).
But by closing one of the tasks, the second one closes, too. Therefore there is no help this way.
I use Adobe Lifecycle Designer ES 8.0 (8.01.2008.1.380548) and Acrobat Reader X (10.0.1)
The PDFs output in LS is set to Acrobat 8 (dynamic)
In Acrobat Reader javascript console/debugger is set as active, as well as to show errors etc.
It might be a problem realted to sap gui.
I just ran the pdf-preview in sap gui. And Console didn't show up again.
I have saved the same document from the sap print-preview on my local hd drive. Then started it with adobe reader and everything worked just fine.
Please do not blame sap only. As I have told before: the same problem occurs if I use livecycle designer "native", not within sap gui

I am having the same problem (LSD ES2 (version 9.0.0....) and Adobe Reader X and Acrobat Professional 8)
Whenever I save a form as PDF and open it with Reader or Acrobat I get to see the console.
But never when I view the form in Designer preview!
That used to work until I installed Reader X.
Same as you I checked all configurations in Reader and Acrobat: all perfect.
I really do hope that someone finds a solution for this.
PS. This problem should be discussed in THIS forum. It is clearly a Designer problem!

I am trying to validate my form with javascript. I'm having
trouble with my state field. If the user selects a state javascript
alerts the following message: "SELECT ONE is not a valid choice.
Please choose your state." I want the alert message to pop up if
select one is selected as a state. How do I fix this problem?

I am using an html form to get user input via radio buttons via the following segment

However, when the brackets surrounding (fish) are encountered an error occurs

To include single quotes into literal strings in SQL and PL/SQL, you need to escape (double) them or replace them with concatenations with CHR(39):
htp.p('<input type="radio" value="a" onSelect="saySomething(''fish'')">');
or
htp.p('<input type="radio" value="a" onSelect="saySomething('||chr(39||'fish'||chr(39||')">');

Execution problem with java.exe

Hi everybody. I am a student in a belgian university, and i've got a problem with the execution of my binaries in the JVM.
I'm developping my project with Eclipse. When I build the project, Eclipse launch perfectly my application with javaw.exe (I supposed it because it's written in the console when I run the project).
Thus, I wanted to try to launch my application by myself, to check if everything is right...
My project is composed like this :
- creavea/src : the sources of my project (a package called "main" , and a package "com.creavea. ..." and other .jar files like a MySQLConnector/J, edtFTPj, the JOutlookBar by lf2prod, ...
- creavea/bin : Eclipse puts the binaries there, when I run my project.
- creavea/files : Somes files like configuration files for my application, etc ...
- creavea/images : Images for my interface.
- the main class, containing the pubilc static void main method, is called CreaGesta, and is in the "main" package.
creavea is the name of my project, but i think you supposed it !
I want to run the binaries, then i do this :
- I open a ms-dos console
- I'm going in the C:\eclipse\workspace\creavea\bin folder
- I execute the command : java main.CreaGesta ...
And it doesn't work :'( ! An error appears :
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError : com/lf2prod/common/swing/JOutlookBar.
This class, JOutlookBar is used by my application, and the jar file containing the class is in my /bin folder. I can't understand, i'm a little bit disapointed.
It's my first big project in Java, then i don't really understand what's happening. So if someone can help me, it will be really nice for me ! Thanks a lot for your help !

Thank you for your reply Atmguy ! I put in my command the classpath of the jar's who are in my /bin folder.
Like this : java -classpath edtftpj-1.4.9.jar; jdom.jar;l2fprod-common-outlookbar.jar;mysql-connector-java-3.1.8-bin.jar main.CreaGesta But now, i've got an other error message :
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError : main/CreaGestaOh, it changed ! but I don't understand the problem . What does it mean? "Java cannot find the class main/CreaGesta", or "An error occured in main.CreaGesta" ?
Can somebody help me to solve this new error ? Thank you !

Validate long date in javascript & OnSubmit problem

hi i need to validate long date format "E, dd MMM yyyy HH:mm:ss" or Thu, 18 Jul 2002 12:52:49 that is key in by the user. but i'm not sure how to do this. i have couples of input data and i'm passing an object to the javascript function validateform using OnSubmit. Which one is better, using OnSubmit or OnCick for this kind of parameter passing. Eg <form method="POST" action="insert.jsp" onSubmit="return validateForm(this)"> However i'm having a problem where when there is an invalid input from the user, it will notify the user but it will also send the form to the insert.jsp at the same time. Therefore the user can't correct the invalid data. The function return false for valid input and true for invalid. Please help!!! urgent.... thanks in advance

Your problem is you have used
<input type="submit" onClick="OnSubmit();">
this won't work.
Instead try
<input type="button" value="someValue" onClick="OnSubmit();">
