JComboBox selected border

When moving from 1.4 to 1.5, JComboBox now has a white border around it when it's selected. This is not the border color, I'm setting that, I'm also setting the background color but now have an additional white border. How to I get rid of it?

if your comboBox is editable
    JTextField tf = (JTextField)comboBox.getEditor().getEditorComponent();
    tf.setBorder(BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder(0,0,0,0));

    How do I change a default from feathered edge to sharp edge when I select a path?
    I'm working in Photoshop CS6 on a Mac and am having trouble when I select a Path it automatically feathers the selection border. I can't seem to find any place to adjust a feather setting. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm using paths to silhouette an image on a photograph to use in another document and I need a hard edge on it, not a feathered one.

    In the Paths panel, click the flyout menu (in the top right of the panel) and choose Make Selection (this option will only be available if you have a path selected). Reduce the Feather Radius to 0 (zero) and click OK. This setting will be the default even when clicking the Load Path as Selection button.

    Did any one face this issue.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks,

    I must be a little confused regarding your question.
    You can simply change your code frame.setSize(200, 200); to frame.setSize(400, 400);When you say you are unable to see the border are you specifically talking about the border of the frame or the border of the combo box?

  • Setting selected border colour of a JToggleButton

    Hi
    I am wanting to be able to change the selected border colour of a JToggleButton. I have already been able to do a similar thing for changing the selected background colour for the JToggleButton by:
    button.setUI(new MyUI(Color.gray));
    class MyUI extends javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalToggleButtonUI
    Color color;
    public MyUI(Color c){color = c;}
    public Color getSelectColor(){return color;}
    however I want the background colour of the toggle button to remain the same whether selected or not (so I'm not using this).
    I realise that I can use a MouseListener to do this (I have already done that to change the rollover border colour), but it is more of a pain for the selected border colour, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar way to change the selected border colour to the above method?
    Thanks

    your layerpane lives on top of a container. set the
    background of the container.
    here is a sample code. In the createAndShowGUI you
    can add a line,
    frame.setBackground(Color.white) ;
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/compon
    ents/example-1dot4/LayeredPaneDemo2.javaThe program uses JLabels on different layers to display the colours, I would prefer not to use a large white JLabel as my background.
    I have tried to set my JFrame background colour using-
    frame.setBackground(Color.white) ;It will not work for me

  • Need image to update with JComboBox selection

    hello, i have code here that loads an image from a JFileChooser dialog when "Add Image" is clicked, the images name and path is stored in a JComboBox, and the image name is displayed. As more images are added to the JComboBox, I would like to be able to have the picture displayed in concurrence with whatever image is selected from the comboBox. For instance, if Jessica.jpg is selected in the JComboBox, i need Jessica.jpg to be loaded into imagePanel. Here is the code. The problem lies within the JComboBox's "itemStateChanged" I believe... This is what must be used (i think) to update the pictures in the imagePanel when the combobox is manipulated....

    You don't really expect us to read through 300 lines of code do you?
    If you need further help then you need to create a [url http://homepage1.nifty.com/algafield/sscce.html]Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour, because I can't guess exactly what you are doing based on the information provided.
    And don't forget to use the [url http://forum.java.sun.com/help.jspa?sec=formatting]Code Formatting Tags so the code retains its original formatting.
    In the meantime I suggest you read the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/combobox.html]How to Use Combo Boxes for a working example that does exactly what you want.

  • JComboBox and border

    Hi all:
    I have been reading messages about combos and borders, but did not found an answer, so, here it is the question:
    I want a JComboBox that, when not active, does not show any border.
    For the moment, thanks to uiDefaults.put( "Button.border", lineBorder) I have just removed the border in the arrow button. But the selected item label, displayed by a javax.swing.CellRendererPane, still paints a compound border.
    Any help?

    Yes, that's right.
    Following your suggestions I have reached the simplest, I hope, solution. I do not like it very much, because it requires overriding a UI class so future improvements to that class, OK just the method overridden, will not be noticed. But for the moment, it is the only thing I have.
    The solution:
    1.- Register a new ComboBoxUI
    UIDefaults uiDefaults = UIManager.getDefaults();
    uiDefaults.put( "ComboBoxUI"     , "es.shin.plaf.metal.LightMetalComboBoxUI");2.- class LightMetalComboBoxUI
    package es.shin.plaf.metal;
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.Insets;
    import java.awt.Rectangle;
    import javax.swing.JComponent;
    import javax.swing.plaf.ComponentUI;
    import javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalComboBoxUI;
    import javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel;
    * @author jroman
    public class LightMetalComboBoxUI extends MetalComboBoxUI
       public static ComponentUI createUI( JComponent c)
          return new LightMetalComboBoxUI();
       @Override
       public void paintCurrentValueBackground
       ( Graphics g, Rectangle bounds, boolean hasFocus)
          if ( g == null || bounds == null )
             throw new NullPointerException(
                 "Must supply a non-null Graphics and Rectangle");
          g.setColor( Color.LIGHT_GRAY);
          g.drawRect( bounds.x, bounds.y, bounds.width, bounds.height - 1);
          // This is the inner rectangle that makes the border of the label of size 2.
          // I do not paint it, since I want a lighter label.
    //      g.setColor( MetalLookAndFeel.getControlShadow());
    //      g.drawRect( bounds.x + 1, bounds.y + 1, bounds.width - 2, bounds.height - 3);
          if ( hasFocus && !isPopupVisible( comboBox) && arrowButton != null)
              g.setColor( listBox.getSelectionBackground());
              Insets buttonInsets= arrowButton.getInsets();
              if ( buttonInsets.top > 2 )
                 g.fillRect( bounds.x + 2, bounds.y + 2, bounds.width - 3, buttonInsets.top - 2);
              if ( buttonInsets.bottom > 2 )
                 g.fillRect( bounds.x + 2, bounds.y + bounds.height - buttonInsets.bottom, bounds.width - 3,
                             buttonInsets.bottom - 2);
    }I hope this serves to someone...
    Cheers.

  • How to veto a JComboBox selection change in ItemListener

    I have a JComboBox whose current value is tied to some data cached in my application. I want to be able to examine the selection in an ItemListener attached to the JComboBox, and if the value is different than what I have cached, I want to ask the user if they really want to change because the change will render some other data as no longer valid. If the user wants to abandon the change, then I want to "abandon" or "veto" the selection change and reset it to the old value.
    For instance, if the combo box has values "Foo" and "Bar" in it, and "Foo" is the cached selection, then the user goes and changes the selection to "Bar", I want to prompt them with something like "You have changed the value to Bar. Doing so will render XXX no longer valid. Do you want to continue?" -- if they cancel the change, then leave the selection as "Foo".
    What is the best way to do this within ItemListener's itemStateChanged? Are there better ways to do this besides what I've outlined? I didn't see anything in "Core JFC" book or the JDK documentation that discussed this sort of thing.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

    Hi,
    It is a design problem and not realy a language problem... The way I create vetoing design it that a keep the previous selection of the JComboBox... upon action I look if the application can do the new computation...if not...ask the user... if true| run calculations if not set the JComboBox to the previous selection...

  • JComboBox selection and highlight problem of the selected item

    Hi,
    I have a question how can I make my newly added item to the combo-box selectable and highlighted. I am adding new items to my custom comboBox dynamically and I want whatever item I add to be selected by default. I am using my own custom ComboBoxModel that extends AbstractListModel and implements ComboBoxModel and TreeModelListener, and my custom Renderer that extends JLabel and implements ListCellRenderer. Because I am trying to get a tree structure in my comboBox model and that's why I have my own custom model and renderer. Now when I add a new node or item to my comboBox it is being added and shown in the combo-box textField, but as soon I pull down the combo-box my parent directory is selected though my current selection is the last node added. That's how I am adding new nodes and making it selectable
    treeModel.insertNodeInto(tempNode, (DefaultMutableTreeNode)nodeCollection.lastElement(), 0);
    int nodeTotal =((CMRGlobals.myTreeGlobals).getModel()).getSize();
    Object lastNode = CMRGlobals.myTreeGlobals).getModel()).getElementAt(nodeTotal - 1);
    ((CMRGlobals.myTreeGlobals).getModel()).setSelectedItem(lastNode);
    when I do this my node is added under my parentNode and is shown in the comboBox but when I try to pull down the combo my parent node is high lighted and when I move out of the combo-box my parent node gets selected and show in the combo-box though I haven't selected it,and the contents of my last node are shown. I am just writing my own custom model that simulates the effect of JTree. I am using these......
    DefaultMutableTreeNode and
    DefaultTreeModel
    and in my JComboBox I am setting my model as
    this.setModel(new myModel(treemodel));
    this.setRenderer(new myRenderer());
    I am building my own FileDialog that just works like FileDialog I have all the functionality except this problem.Thanks for any help. I know I have posted this same thread yesterday but I didn't get any response hoping now may somebody can help me.Thanks again

    never mind I got it
    Thanks

  • Html:select border issue.

    Hi,
    I am trying to put a border on a dropdownlist. For the dropdown, I am using html:select tag. I tried giving the border using the style attribute in html:select.(<html:select style="border:1px solid red"). It does not seem to be working. Could someone help me out and guide me in the proper direction. Thanks.

    Are we talking java here? Or is this javascript? If javascript, you know that this is a java forum, and that the two languages are vastly different. If you're asking about java, then sorry, but I'm at a loss to help you as I've never heard of these before.

  • Table cell selection border

    hi,
    how can you find out the default color of the table cell renderer border?
    when you select a cell in a JTable, there's (by default) a thin border drawn around it. since i use my own renderer for some columns, i need to find out the color of this border (it is differnt for different look & feels).
    thanksout the default

    you were right. thank you.
    just one more thing: where can i find the names of all those properties that the UIManager uses? like the one you used "Table.focusCellHighlightBorder"...

  • JCombobox selection problem

    Hello,
    I have some problem implementing events associated with JComboBox. My requirement is "the event should get fired only when an item is selected in the combobox". It may occur thet using arrow keys I can traverse all elements in the combobox and on item change the event should not get fired. I tried with itemstatechanged, actionperformed but no result.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    regards,
    Ranjan

    A simple working example:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.text.*;
    public class ComboBoxAction extends JFrame implements ActionListener
         private JComboBox comboBox;
         public ComboBoxAction()
              comboBox = new JComboBox();
              comboBox.addActionListener( this );
              comboBox.addItem( "Item 1" );
              comboBox.addItem( "Item 2" );
              comboBox.addItem( "Item 3" );
              comboBox.addItem( "Item 4" );
              //  This prevents action events from being fired when the
              //  up/down arrow keys are used on the dropdown menu
              comboBox.putClientProperty("JComboBox.isTableCellEditor", Boolean.TRUE);
              getContentPane().add( comboBox );
         public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
              System.out.println( comboBox.getSelectedItem() );
              //  make sure popup is closed when 'isTableCellEditor' is used
              comboBox.hidePopup();
         public static void main(String[] args)
              JFrame frame = new ComboBoxAction();
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible( true );
    }
