JDBC and Classpath problems on OpenVMS

Hello,
I'm working on an OpenVMS server and I got a simpler Java application that needs to establish a connection to an Oracle database, the application works perfectly well on Windows but when I moved to OpenVMS I got some problems with the oracle driver.
I believe Im using the correct driver, I already checked on the oracle site according to my java version (1.4.2) and my database version (oracle 9i 9.2.0.7.0)
This is the error:
$java -jar miss.jar "DnBProcess"
About to start loading parameters for the MISS Proxy.
Successfully load parameters for the MISS Proxy.
About to load interface settings for DnBProcess
Settings for DnBProcess succesffully loaded.

at miss.DnBProcess.Execute(DnBProcess.java:178)
at miss.Proxy.ExecuteInterface(Proxy.java:160)
at miss.Proxy.main(Proxy.java:207)
I know is a classpath problem, and my classpath on VMS looks like this:
define JAVA$CLASSPATH .,SYS$COMMON:[JAVA$142.LIB]TOOLS.JAR,SYS$COMMON:[JAVA$142.LIB]DT.JAR,SYS$COMMON:[JAVA$142.JRE.LIB]RT.JAR, USER1:[MONTEALEGRE.TEST.LIBS]OJDBC14.JAR,USER1:[MONTEALEGRE.TEST.MISS.LIBS]OJDBC14.JAR,[]
As you can see I added the ojdbc14.jar in different folders but my application seems not to find it.
Does anyone know how to set the classpath properly on VMS? Or maybe give me some tips that could lead me to find a solution to this problem.
Thanks.
Ileana.

I would try googling for OpenVMS classpath. Unfortunatley the first result is this thread but there are a bunch of resources from IBM and HP listed and maybe they can help you.

  • Jar file and classpath problem

    I0m writing a program that use the kunststoff.jar Look&Feel.
    Now I would like to put all I'm writing into a jar file but I always have a NoClassFoundException when I try to start my application.
    here is a MANIFEST:ME I'm using:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Created-By: 1.4.2-beta (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
    Main-Class: JListaR.JListaR
    Class-Path: kunststoff.jar img\ .why this don't work?

    Unfortunately you can't embed jars within a jar and
    expect them to be referencable for the classpath from
    outside the main jar. The "Class-Path" attribute in
    the manifest is used to refer to other jar files
    outside of your jar file.
    The usual approach to solve this problem is to unpack
    the jar files you want to embed and then rejar
    everything together in one big jar file again. This
    isn't always a great approach though, I know I'm
    looking for an alternative. So far my only alternative
    is dynamic class loading using a classloader, however
    this isn't great if you need to refer to several
    hundreds or even thousands of classes.thank you very mach...now I understand because it dosen't work correctly!

    tried:
    java -cp .;extra.jar;main.jar main.Main
    But that did not work, still did not find the extra.jar. Looks like the program then runs inside the main.jar file or something too and not the dir where the command were executed...
    Any ideas?

  • Xi 3.0 - JDBC and namespace problem

    Hi.
    In my scenario i have a sync step with update db. The response of the update is used in a mapping step to perform something else.
    What happens is: the first time the process run everything is ok, but the second time i get an error from the mapping. The reason is that the XML message of the response doesnt'have the namespace specified (although the request has).
    The 3rd time then it goes ok again, the 4th error...and so on.
    Any idea??

    Hi,
    have you tried putting your response to the Test tab
    of the mapping program?
    if you still want namespaces try testing the wrong
    response in the repository - pase the values from the SXMB_MONI
    maybe you'll see the error over there too
    (also try the good one)
    this is the only way you'll be able to catche the error I guess
    but you may use it without the namespace like you did
    I try to avoid them:)

  • Problem with Class and Classpath

    Hello ME Windows Users, now before you place a wry smile on your face, I have a problem with path and classpath. Stop it, I can see you smiling!
    By visiting the the last 10 pages of the forum and reading Sun installation notes, some tooldocs and by given some answers by some nice people, I have become an expert in turning off my computer, about 10 times/hr. I still am trying to make my first cup of java.
    With the ME computer,
    I'm unable to right click on the desktop and go to properties, advanced,
    I'm unable to go go start, run, sysedit,
    I'm unable to change the ms-dos window of autoexec.bat, it just shuts down.
    Now before you tell me, I should of bought a different computer, the only place I can find to modify the path and classpath is in the environment which is in system configuration under tools. Here I have placed numerous configurations, like
    C:\java>set path=%path%;c:\j2sdk1.4.2\bin
    C:\java>set classpath=%classpath%;.;
    ;java_dir\bin where ;java_bin is c:\j2sdk1.4.2
    .; java_dir\bin; %path% where ;java_bin is c:\j2sdk1.4.2 and the list goes on.
    But, I know you are still smiling, the % signs comes up in a dialog box, saying too many, and will not convert the text to the environment to be saved when I close down for the tenth time in the last hour.
    Can someone help me before I make a real cup of coffee and accidentally drop it on the ME box.
    Have a laugh on me Mik.

    C:\java>set path=%path%;c:\j2sdk1.4.2\binGood
    But it is no good because it has to many % and a dialog box appears, saying you have too many parameters.
    Are you saying I have to shutdown again to answer your ?
    From the HELP menu-
    To confirm startup commands line by line
    Click Start, and then click Shut down.
    Click Restart, click OK, and then press and hold the CTRL key until the Windows Startup Menu appears.
    Enter the number for Step-by-step confirmation, and then press ENTER.
    For each command you want to run, press Y.
    If the command runs successfully, you are prompted with the next command.
    If the command does not run successfully, you receive an error message.
    To skip a command, press N.

  • A very surprise problem about JDBC and connection pool

    I occur a very problem about JDBC and connection pool on Weblogic Platform
    8.1.
    There is a table in Oracle
    Table
    Name: t1
    id varchar2(5);
    content clob;
    id is primary key.
    If I use a connection pool to connect to Oracle,like following program:
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) ic.lookup("cgOracleDataSource");
    con = ds.getConnection();
    then following program will throw a ClassCastException
    String sql = "select content from t1 where id = ?";
    PreparedStatement pst = con.prepareStatement(sql);
    pst.setString(1,"001");
    oracle.sql.CLOB clob = (oralce.sql.CLOB)rs.getClob("content") //this
    statement will throw ClassCastException
    but if I use JNDI to connect to Oracle,like following program, then those
    program above is ok
    private String dbdriver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
    private String dburl="jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.7.148:1521:ep";
    private String username="ep";
    private String password="epuser";
    Class.forName(dbdriver);
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(dburl, username, password);
    conn.setAutoCommit(false);
    On the contrary, if I use JNDI to connect to Oracle, following program will
    throw ClassCastException
    weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleThinClob clob =
    (weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleThinClob)rs.getClob("content");
    but it is fine if I use connection pool to connect to Oracle.
    I am confused this problem, who can tell me why?
    Daniel

    When you are getting connection using datasource lookup from weblogic
    connection pool, this connection is internally wrapped and hence you have to
    cast it to weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleThinClob which you do and so it
    works.
    But when you get connection by loading driver straight, you are getting naked
    oracle connection. In this case when you cast it to oracle.sql.Clob it works,
    as you have seen in your test case.
    I hope this explains what is going on with your code.
    Thanks,
    Mitesh

  • Re: JDBC and MSSQL

    I download MySQL Driver files and also include in classpath so when i compile it it give error msg: reference to Connection is ambiguous , both class com.mysql.jdbc.Connection in com.mysql.jdbc and class java.sql.Connection in java.sql match....
    so plz reply me on my account ([email protected]) ok bye..

    Okay, now I have another question that relates to this topic. In this project I am planning for, it will be a Swing application deployed via Java Web Start. It is also going to need to connect to the database, so will I run into any problems doing this through JDBC? Will each person that runs the app through JWS need to install the drivers as well, or do I simply include them in the CLASSPATH of the server that will store the app, then create a connection like usual? I was thinking about it when I realized I'm going to need to access a database server from (technically) a client machine. I've searched the forums for anyone who may have run into problems with this, and Google as well, to no avail. I'm thinking since I have to put the IP address of the server in the DriverManager.getConnection(), it should work okay. I'm just trying to find answers to things that I know will come up so I don't have to worry about it then. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

  • JDBC and FTP sender channels stop polling

    Hi,
    We have a great volume of sender JDBC and FTP sender channels.
    For this reason there is nothing unusual to have temporary error connections.
    Several months ago, with an XI 3.0 system, sender channels recover its functionality  automatically when temporary error connection is solved.
    But now, he have migrate to a  PI 7.1 sytem, and in the same scenario and configuration,  sender channel stop polling after a temporary error . In cc monitor this channels remains in  green status and there were no signs of stopped interfaces.
    Timeouts are correctly defined and there is no difference between channel configuration in our Xi and PI system.
    How to solve this problem?
    Thanks, in advance.
    Carme.

    Thanks for your fast response, Stefan.
    After writing this post, i ask the same question to our basis team and  we are in the latest sp.
    ¿do you know if there is any note or can you provide me some additional information?
    I'm not able to find any note about this issue...

    can u give exact command to run and compile the above code in steps ?
    thanx

    question is how do i compile and run it ?You don't with that code. You've defined class A to have "package visibility," meaning it can't be used from outside its package. You should declare it with public visibility instead, like "public class A {...".
    Once you change that, use these commands to compile and run:c:\my\>javac xxx/yyy/zzz/A.java
    c:\my\>javac xxx/yyy/B.java
    c:\my\>java xxx.yyy.B

  • Classpath Problem (Using JSAPI)

    Hi,
    I using IBM Via Voice as a the implementation of the JSAPI on my system. I've downloaded the speech for java pack from IBM Alphaworks and put it in the directory of
    c:\ibmjs
    This gives you access to the speech packages for utilisation in your programs so I should be able to import javax.speech in my programs. However the system doesn't see these classes.
    Heres my Autoexec...
    path=%path%;c:\jdk1.3.1_01\bin;c:\ibmjs\lib;
    CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\ibmjs\lib\ibmjs.jar;
    I presume the whole thing is just a classpath problem, does anybody have any idea from the above paths where I am going wrong?

    i guess you have to put some of ibm's dll files coming with speech for java in the path (not classpath). it's not sufficient to have the directories in the path.
    anyway, there come's an installation manual with speech for java which explaines all that.

    HI Vidya,
    If i was you, i would do a list of things that i would need about these adapters, o i would search the SAP.help documentation for a first view and later ask about this possibility. Another way is to read the SCN doubts about these adapters and you can find some problems. You should think about the PI version as well.
