  • JDev 11g update 1 base edition on windows: error building default domain

    Hi all,
(refer to [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=3168105]here for original post)
I'm posting this again with some more information. When downloading the Studio Edition (Base - no JDK) version of JDeveloper 11g update 1, an error occurs upon first (and each subsequent) startup of JDeveloper (error details below).
    Tests that I have done:
1). Install using JDK 6 u 11 - JDK did not show up automatically in the installer, had to browse to find it and select it. Running using 6u11, 6u10, and 6u7 (deleting the system directory after each try) - error occurs.
2). Install using JDK 6 u7 - JDK was automatically found by the installer. Running using 6u7, 6u11, and 6u10 (deleting the system directory after each try) - error occurs
These errors do not occur when using the Windows installer. For information: my machine is Windows 2008 Server Standard 32-bit. An update - I just tried this on a Vista 64-bit laptop (running Sun 32-bit JDK 6u10) and did not have the problem. Ergo, this seems to be an issue with the JDK and detecting Windows 2008 as a Windows platform (or possibly with whatever mechanism JDev/WLS is using to detect the OS platform). I'll do more research on that and update if I find anything.
One more update: I didn't find any issues reported like this related to Windows 2008, but I did one more test: install and run JDeveloper using:
    java version "1.6.0_05"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_05-b13)
BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.6.0-50_o-100423-1.6.0_05-20080626-2105-windows-ia32, compiled mode)                                                                   The issue does not occur using this JDK. So to summarize, installing JDev 11g update 1 Studio edition, base installer using any of the SUN JDK's on Windows 2008 gives this problem. Using the windows installer or JRockit Mission Control JVM - no problems.
Finally, one last update - the error is related to the JVM that is used to install, not the one used to run JDeveloper (via editing jdev.conf) - the offending JDK is in wlserver_10.3\common\bin\commEnv.cmd. Seems like a no-no to have one JDK running JDev and another running the integrated WLS, though. Quite a pity, as JDev starts up pretty slowly using JRockit Mission Control.
JRockit Realtime seems to be a bit faster... sigh - now to remove the 72 extra JDK's on my laptop ;)
My going forward plan: use the Windows installer. Wish I never installed Windows Server 2008.
Now for the error details; the log shows:

  • Is there a way to change the Windows Update service startup type on Windows Server 2012 R2?

We have a number of newly built 2012 R2 servers that we have HP Operations Manager agent running on that monitors the status of several services and reports if they are "stopped". One of these services is Windows Update. Every day we
get at least one alert saying:
"Service "Windows Update" is not started. Current state is stopped"
Checking the event logs shows that the Windows Update service stops, then a while later it just starts again. Not an error, just an information event.
In Windows 2012 R2 the Windows Update service is set to "Automatic (Trigger Start)", where in previous versions we run (2012/2008R2) it would be set to just "Automatic" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)"
I have come to understand that this behaviour is normal for Windows 2012 R2, and that Trigger Start services by design stop themselves after a period of inactivity. I was unable to find any info on how this works. Our client would like this to
be changed and the Windows Update service stay running all the time, understanding that this impacts performance.
Is there a way to change the Windows Update service in Server 2012 R2 to the old Automatic startup behaviour so that it stays running all the time instead of stopping and starting periodicall? There is no option to do this via the services mmc
    gui.
    So far I have tried:
Removing the Triggers using the command: sc triggerinfo wuauserv delete
This works temporarily, the service then shows as just Automatic in the services console, however if you restart the server or restart the service it goes right back to being Automatic (Trigger Start).
Any kind of help would be appreciated.

    This one might help.

  • Skype Startup Crash on Windows 7

After login sound and two seconds of loading, the Skype windows cease to respond and Skype will crash when one clicks on any Skype window. I am using Skype version 7.6.0.103. The problem began on Skype 7.2, but I uninstalled that and installed Skype 7.6.0.103. The problem persisted and I reinstalled Skype 7.6.0.103 which still did not help. Copy-pasted from Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events -> General Tab:--------------------------------------------------------------------The program Skype.exe version 7.6.0.103 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. Note: I have updated via Windows Update (the problem was not fixed). I have included an attachment to a zip file showing the result from the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (or so I hope, as this is my first post on this forum).  Further notes:- I do not have Internet Explorer on my computer- I uninstalled my Logitech Webcam, but Skype still crashes on startup- Deactivating the protections from my Avast AntiVirus does not help.- The crashing problem sometimes persist for days, then for an evening or so Skype starts working again, then the crashing returns.

First update your Windows 7 installation to the latest Service Pack 1 (SP1) and make sure that you have the latest driver updates available too. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-windows-7-service-pack-1 Also, update your Internet Explorer to the latest IE11 version for Windows 7. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/internet-explorer-11-for-windows-7-details.aspx

  • Options Startup Show my Windows & Tabs from last time, but upon exit FF doesn't ask to save tabs & windows. When restarting FF I have a home pape, but no Bookmark tabs show. Why

Upon starting FF and going to my Home Page, I have no Bookmarks or Tabs showing. I have to Re-load the Bookmark Tabs. My options at Startup are "Show my Windows & Tabs from last time" Also using the Firefox exit,it does not ask to save tabs & windows on Exit. I'm getting tired of adding Bookmark Tabs each time I want to use FF.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

  • No startup disk for windows in preferences on Mac

I re-installed Snow Leopard, an already had a Boot Camp partition for WinXP Home SP3. All went fine but...
There's no startup disk icon in startup disk options on the Mac.
Sometimes I hold down option key to chose Mac or Windows and it's fine, bit if I boot to windows, the next time it auto boots to windows everytime, even with key held in. I then, in windows, chose boot camp icon in taskbar and chose "restart in Mac OSX" and it does.. Now however it boots to Mac everytime!
I didn't do a re-install of the boot camp partition, as was all fine installation wise after I did with Snow Leopard.
    Anyone help please
    Cheers

Still having bother with this, can anyone help please.
The Windows disk doesnt show up in Mac OS on "startup disk preference", when in windows boot camp, both the Mac OSX and Windows partition show up.
Sometimes if I boot into Mac, I then cant boot into Windows via the "option key", if I've been in Windows, I cannot get to Mac with option key, have to goto boot camp options and "restart in Mac OSX"
So something is messed up, can anyone help please? I use Mac and its fine, but kids use Windows, and when I'm not in it doesnt work, so its difficult to explain over phone.
I have a wireless keyboard and it seems it doesnt switch on when booting up iMac, so the option key isnt detected - again randomly
    cheers

  • How to select the desired language in the item Startup and Login Windows?

Users can individually select the language in which applications are displayed by moving the entries in the Language list of the International pane in System Preferences into the desired order. However, this language preference only affects applications started by each user, it does not apply to the startup phase of the operating system and its login window. Under normal circumstances, this kind of language preference can only be set when installing or reinstalling the operating system.
How to modify this language preference without having to reinstall the system. Select the desired language in the item Startup and Login Language ?

The language used by the login window is written in /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist. The file name begins with a dot . , so it is hidden in the Finder.
If it is OK for you to use unix command line, then you can modify this plist file by using "defaults" command as follows (CAUTION! please be careful no to make any mistakes, and do it at your own risk).
    Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app. and type
    cd /Library/Preferences
    cp .GlobalPreferences.plist saved-GlobalPreferences.plist
to make a backup copy of the plist. (if you get permission error, then try
    sudo cp .GlobalPreferences.plist saved-GlobalPreferences.plist
    and enter the admin password.)
    Then type
    defaults read /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences AppleLanguages
to show the current setting. You can rearrange the list of languages as you like, for example,
defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences AppleLanguages '(fr en)'
(or sudo defaults write .... if you get permission error)
I think you may make the list as short as you like.
If you don't like to use Terminal.app, then install Xcode (you can find it in Tiger install DVD, or download the latest version from Apple -- you need to register at Apple website to download it). It will install /Developer/Applications/Utilities/Property List Editor.app. You can edit /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist by this app by typing the following into Terminal.app (it's hidden in Finder so you must use Terminal.app to start editing it by Property List Editor):
    open /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist

  • Startup Problem in Windows 2003 Server

    Hi,
    I was using oracle 9.0.2 with Windows 2003 & i had to format & re-install my machine.
Then I tried to install 9i Application Server & failed in between. But I noticed that the setup has already installed oracle 8i database instance. Then I quit configuring 9iAS & installed Oacle 9i (9.0.2) database. Then I upgraded the 8i instance with 9.0.2 with Database Upgrade Assistance.
Then I noticed when I start the instance with windows services & log in with sqlplus
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
errors occure. when I run following
    c:\&gt;sqlplus /nolog
    SQL&gt; conn sys/change_on_install as sysdba
    SQL&gt; startup
then the database starts up perfectly.
I thought this happens because of upgrade & then I created a new database instance but same problem is occuring.
    Please help me...
    Thank in advance.
    Shaamil.

    Thank you,
I did remove ORA_DBA from the administrator user. then I did change "logon as" option for "this account"
    Now it's OK.
    Regards, Shaamil.

thank you!Once the windows service is started, you can use sqlplus to connect, shutdown, and startup just like you do in *nix.

  • After Effects crashes on startup - Various Errors - Windows 7 64bit

    AE CC 2014 13.1.1
    Windows 7 64bit
    12 GB Ram
    Intel Xeon CPR W3680 @ 3.33 GHz 3.33 GHz
    Hyper-threaded 12 cores
    NVIDIA Quadro 2000
After effects on startup crashes constantly on me. I get various errors, the newest is error code 1268; D_MCp_SetupExporterModule
Sometimes it is a dynamic link error, and sometimes there is errors.
If I actually get it to open and work, I'm usually OK until I close the program. At that point there is almost no way I'm getting back in without a reboot.
I've worked on this same machine for three years and had pretty good luck with every version of AE since 5.5.

If you're not on Service Pack 1 for Windows 7, you need to get it. SP1 is a minimum system requirement to run 13.1

  • Wup.sys / startup issue w/ Windows 2000

I've been running iTunes on my laptop for years. I'm shifting to a desktop, with a much larger hard drive, so I convert my CD collection (and shop more at the iTunes store, heh).
But when I install iTunes, startup hangs about 75% of the way across the blue/white status bar (above the "t" in Microsoft). Using F8 for command line startup, startup freezes just after "wup.sys". Many many many forums discuss purported wup.sys problems (including incompatability with USB, iTunes, and more), with the only conclusion being that wup.sys is simply the last thing to load before the registry, and that anything that upset the registry would cause startup to freeze when the registry loads.
Soooo... I can use "last known good configuration" (LKGC) to get back into Windows. I can then successfully uninstall iTunes, although that's not necessary - startup proceeds on the LKGC without a hitch. But the LKGC misses the registry settings that iTunes made. And if I run (rather than uninstalling) iTunes, I get a warning that the registry settings for importing and burning CDs aren't there and that I need to reinstall iTunes. Doing so only reintroduces the mysterious startup freeze so oft associated with (and blamed on) wup.sys. Doing LKGC again, I can run iTunes, with apparently full functionality except for importing and burning - which I haven't tried, but am timid about without further advice.
Given the hundreds of posts, and dozens of forums, mentioning wup, many of them citing iTunes, surely I'm not the only one with this problem. And yet, despite hours of googling, off and on over the course of three weeks, I ain't found an answer.
(BTW, yes, I have the updated Windows install engine, Service Pack 4, newest version of iTunes, Windows Update runs daily, logging in as administrator, disabling virus-protection and closing all other programs, etc etc.)
    Thanks,
    Ellis

Woo-hoot/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png It wouldnt have occurred to me that installing those drivers separately was possible, much less safe - but IT WORKED/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
iTunes started and ran fine (no warning about registry issues for ripping/burning), and reboot went fine (no hanging, no errors).
I guess that means that the drivers (and related registry settings) themselves aren't the issue (i can rip and burn fine now), just the way they're implemented in the iTunes install executable?
I did get an "A specified file, path, or program could not be found." warning at startup the first time, but with nothing in the dialog box's header or body to indicate what it's talking about, and no discernable effects, good or bad; and it only happened once - but I'll mention it here for the record, in case this word-around introduced something incomplete and/or in case someone reworks the iTunes installer.
THANK YOU/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Now, someone please relay this to the installer team. Something ain't right with it, and lots of folks could benefit by this fix - and there are almost certainly other people who gave up on iTunes or (worse) their computers when they encountered this issue.

  • Why doesn't my backup drive appear in the Startup Disk selection window?

I've been using SuperDuper! to backup my Mac HD to my internal Seagate drive. The Seagate is divided into Seagate1 and Seagate2. I backup to Seagate1. When I open the Startup Disk window from Preferences, only the Mac HD icon appears, highlighted, and a Network Startup icon. Seagate1 does not appear, although I've made it bootable while using SuperDuper!
I'm not on a network, as I'm the sole user of my computer at home. I am connected to the Internet via cable, but that shouldn't be a factor, I think. I don't know why the Network icon is there but Seagate1 but Seagate1 isn't.
Is there a way to make it so the Seagate1 icon appears in the Startup Disk window? As it stands if my Mac HD goes down, I won't have access to Seagate1 to boot the computer.
Would much appreciate any advice or referral to another source that could help me.

Something I learned re: partitioning w/ Disk Utility: Dave Nanian at SD! referred me to SD!'s FAQs, the 1st one dealing with my problem:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5738
I told (email) him that the original partitions already showed APM, but I went ahead, anyway, following instr's in the FAQ. Notable in those instr's is to click on Options, which I may have overlooked originally. This time, when I clicked on Options, APM showed as the default in the window. I went ahead & proceeded, thinking, "Well, if APM is the default, why did I need to click on Options"?
So I raised the issue with Dave. Here's what he said: "Alas, no - it uses the existing scheme, which was likely MBR."
Lesson: When partitioning w/ DU, ALWAYS click on Options, even if APM is the default. I know DU directs this, but all I can think of why the original partitioning failed is that I did not do this. Any comments would be welcome.
