JDev Platform Question

I just returned from Open World and would like to set up JDev on my desktop. I am running windows 98, which according to previous postings in this forum, may or may not work. Should I just buy NT workstation and set up a dual boot on my computer? Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

do yourself a favor ....
don't waste your time trying to run it on win 95, 98 or me.
it's only certified for win nt 4 (sp5 or 6a are recommeneded for stability) or win 2000.

  • Apache Commons Net deployment fails to resolve, JDev classpath question

I wrote a wrapper to apache's most recent version of commons-net package (version 1.4.1) to allow me to execute FTP services from an Oracle 9i2 database. After adding the common-net .jar file to the JDev libraries, and including this library in my project, I debugged the code in Jdeveloper, then deployed to the Oracle 9i2 server. However, many classes of the of the common-net (and my code) failed to resolve in the database.
After downloading open source product DependencyFinder, and running against the Commons-net .jar file, I found that some packages were dependent on the Apache ORO regexp package. The ORO package, as far as I can tell, is not in any classpath that my JDev project uses. There is listed in the JDev libraries, a library called Apache Regexp, but I did not include that in the project, either.
After I downloaded the ORO package from Apache, added it to JDev's libraries, included it in my project, and added the ORO library to the list of classes to deploy (using the loadjava deployment profile), deployment to Oracle 9i2 of the my classes, the commons-net classes, and the ORO classes properly resolved.
My question is: Why did my application work under JDeveloper? How and where did it find the ORO classes?
The version of Java under which JDeveloper is running, and the version being used as the compiler for this project, is a new installation of JDK1.4.2_10.

Since the commons net 1.4.1 is compatible with jdk 1.3.1, I should only need to use loadjava on the .jar file. In fact, that works, given that there is no failure on load due to incompatible .jar or .class files structure.
But, I've just solved this part of the problem. The commons net 1.4.1 is dependent on, but does not include the Apache ORO library. Once the ORO library was deployed to Oracle 9i2, all common net 1.4.1 classes were resolved.
The "problem" is with JDeveloper. Without including the ORO library in the JDeveloper application, or in the classpath, it worked under JDeveloper -- the more surprising since I had never downloaded the ORO library from Apache. Only after downloading ORO, explicitly defining ORO to JDeveloper, and including ORO as a library in my JDeveloper project, did the deployment of the application to Oracle 9i2 succeed (though the application always executed successfully under JDeveloper).

  • Lightroom and processing platform question

I have posted a version of this question on PS, but it is LR where it really matters.
Some eons ago, I was a PS user and found my then-current machine had features which PS was not using. Cannot remember the fine detail, we are talking PS5 or 6...
So, now I am contemplating buying a new i7 based machine with umpteen GB of memory and super graphics board. All these raise questions:can LRuse the speed features of the i7, can they use the umpteen GB, switch into the graphics stuff.
I am fed up with the P4 3.2GHz, 3GB, GeForce 9800GT platform I have - it stumbles and makes me wait (.always Loading... taking seconds). will I end up finding things not much better on a platform potentially 50 times faster? Or is 50 times faster just a dream?
If someone replies that their xxx with yyy goes like lightning, they will not be actually answering the question. I want to know if LR (and PS) can use all the bells and whistles available to them as processes - are they 64-bit so able to use the nnGB... etc etc
    Thanks...

LR and PS can use multiple cores, perhaps not all 6 if you get a $1000 CPU--I base that on a benchmark that had LR running the same on both a quad and hex-core although no details were available on what the LR portion of the benchmark was doing.  LR and PS both have 64-bit editions.
CS4-PS takes advantage of the GPU for certain things, but LR seems to only be sped up by the OS using the GPU more, not LR using the GPU, specifically, itself.
CS5 and LR3 are just around the corner and we don't know everything GPU-wise they will take advantage of, although there are reports that CS5-Premier Pro will only use CUDA (nVidia) not OpenCL (ATI) because OpenCL is buggy, still.
50-times-faster would be a benchmark that can use all the cores to their fullest, whereas LR does some things in parallel but not nearly everything, so the speedup will vary depending on what you do.
I am about ready to build myself a i7 960 machine and expect LR and PS to be very fast on it.  I am not sure if I'll try using an SSD or not for the OS.  If I go with what I'm leaning towards at the moment, a Gigabyte GA X58A-UD7, it would likely have USB3 on a couple of the USB ports with a 6Gbps speed that a few peripherals can use.  It also has SATA3, which is half that speed, but faster than SATA2.  I don't know as I will be overclocking it, much, which depends on the cooling setup, so maybe the MB is overkill and I'll go for something cheaper.

  • Cross platform question

I made a DVD that plays fine on my Mac but won't play on a PC running either XP or Vista. What can I do to correct this? It was very embarrassing and almost cost me a gig.

What kind of DVD? Did you make a VIDEO DVD and if so did you use iDVD to make it?
If so, it should play on any computer regardless of platform which has a DVD player application.

  • Jdev 11g:  question about dvt:shapeAttributes and property "alt"

    Hi,
    Jdev 11.1.1.0.2
    I use dvt:shapeAttributes> within a declarative component.
    This code works fine:
              <dvt:shapeAttributesSet>
                <dvt:shapeAttributes component="GAUGE_INDICATOR"
                                     alt="Your Tooltiptext"/>
</dvt:shapeAttributesSet>The tooltip text should come from an attribute (parameter) of the declarative component

It's not the problem to write this backing bean to access the value of attrs.tooltipLed1 but just for my understanding.
Why it's possible to pass a literal string for the property "tag" but not the EL "#{attrs.tooltipLed1}" ?

  • How to add new third party jars into JDev - quick question

    Hi All
We have some additional jars needed to include for use with our current ADF application.
These jars are not for ADF components.
These jars are for API calls to other 3rd application.
We're using standalone weblogic to run our ADF app.
How do we include our 3rd party jars in JDev ?
Do we need to include new paths in standalone WLS to pick up these new 3rd party jars in order for our app to work ?
    Thanks

You can add libraries to WLS classpath, but this is not good approach if you need to replace them later(because you must restart WLS to pick new version)
To include jars to ADF deployment, open Model or ViewController project properties and include path(s) in Project Source Paths->Java Source Paths.
Then edit your deployment profile (right click on application -> Application Properties... ->Deployment -> Your Deployment Profile), go to Application Assembly and mark these libraries(also, for each library you can specify target folder, for example "lib")

  • Newbie JDBC's platform question

    Hi!
While not necessarily to prgramming and Java, I am very new to JDBC, database and Linux.
I am using Windows, but I will have to develop a database Java for Linux. I am trying to learn JDBC with ODBC, but I have a feeling that ODBC is a Windows' thing? So what kind of Database would you suggest that I go with so that it will be easy to use JDBC and will be the same in both Windows and Linux?

    Hi to everyone,
I am developing on MS SQL and OCBC Databases, anway i have a question.....
Is there any way to make a Java program copy your OCBC database info into the Data Sources (ODBC) when you run the program (.jar)?
I am asking because everytime i connect to a database, i have to add the Data Sources (ODBC) information manually
Please let me know if there is any solution to my broblem
    Thanx in advance.....

  • 2 Jdev 11g question

    Hi all,
I am a Java newbie, so please bear with me.
Question 1 - How do I make a connection as SYSDBA? The Java program will be running on the database server and the Oracle environment (ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, etc. will be set).
Question 2 - This may be moot, depending on the answer to #1 - How do I set the correct class path in order to correctly import oracle.jdbc.PreparedStatement and oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource?
I am developing against Oracle database 11.1, but the target databases will be both 10.2.0.3 and 9.2.0.4.
    Thanks for your help.
    Ron Reidy

  • JDev Newby Question: Visual Assist forms on attributes (like JD Edwards)

    Hi,
Normally I use JD Edwards Enterprise One as software for ERP.
Now for a customer we are starting to use JDeveloper to develop a custom website for them.
Usually in JD Edwards it is possible to associate a Data Dictionary (attribute in JDev), which represents a column in a table or a field on the form, with a "Visual Assist".
This Visual Assist can provide you with the correct information for this Data Dictionary (or attribute). When you click it, you'll get to another form where you can select the data you want. Much like an LOV.
In JDeveloper this feature is not automatically generated. Only the Data functionallity on an attribute provides a calender where you can select the date you want.
Is there anyone who also uses JD Edwards Enterprise One, and who knows how to build a Visual Assist form?
Is is then also possible to make this Visual Assist an automated feature on an attribute? So every time this attribute is added, this Visual Assist will be included in the form?
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Kind regards,
    Willem Jan, Netherlands.

Check out the LOV feature of ADF BC - it allows you to associate a list of values to a field - and then in the UI the field, by default, will have a button to open the list of values to choose a value.

  • 46c with 46d_ext kernel sles and oracle platform question

    Dear sap on linux community,
    I currently have R/3 4.6c with 46d_ext kernel running on sles8 and ora 9204 (all 32-bit)
As part of an upgrade project I want to move current system to sles10 and oracle 10 (all 64-bit). I am using that note as a starting point.
According to the note oracle 9 client is required with ora10 db ?
    Why is this ?
This leads to some conflicting results from pam.
pam states that it is supported to run ora10 64-bit on sles10.
But as far as I know it is not suported to install ora9 client on sles10.
    Please explain.
Do I need a db server with sles10ora10 and a ci app server with sles9ora9 ?
    Rgds, Eirikur.

    Hello,
I strongly recommend you to take a look at the note <a href="http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/521230">521230: FAQ: Client software 9i or earlier on UNIX</a>
The oracle client to be used on a SAP system running on UNIX depends on the <b>KERNEL</b>
    You are upgrading
    - Your OS ( from SLES 8 to 10 )
    - Your Oracle DB ( from 9i to 10g )
Your kernel is NOT changing, therefore the oracle client still is the same as before.
NOTE. Even when the oracle client still is 9i, you must have version 9.2.0.7 or 9.2.0.8
Please, do not confuse the oracle client version (9i) with the RDBMS version (10g)
There is no conflict with PAM. PAM talks about RDBMS version, not about client versions.
At the end you will have a DB server running oracle 10g (RDBMS) and CI/AS runing kernel 46D_EXT with Oracle <b>CLIENT</b> 9i

  • JDev TP question

    Hi All
Will we have another TP or Release of JDev11 ?
    are any dates known ?
    Thanks

They will not tell us the secret... But, reading between lines in Oracle press releases, on can tell you that there will be R1 most probably but the TP is also possible at some point of time in accordance to unknown schedule around the OpenWorld this year, or next few in the first half of 21st century, if not postponed by some new acquisition (like it was case with BEA) or some other unspecified reason. Sound reasoning... as the Oracle's official silence does not sound at all.

  • OID DIP (Directory Integration Platform) Question

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with running numerous DIP Profiles on an OID? We're looking at 500+ DIP Profiles, each of them running very frequently, every few minutes. Will it be a problem for OID to handle this number of DIP Profiles?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We are syncing user information from a non-LDAP directory. Unfortunately, our DIT structure is such that certain types of users (as defined by geographic locations) are contained within separate folders. We have over 500 different "types" of users, each with their own place (container) in the tree. This removes the possibility of having one DIP mapping file. Each office has it's own mapping file and own config file that queries based upon said location.
    Thanks.

  • Mixed platform question

I am going to be installing an ExtremeN (via cable modem) in a home with both apple and pc's. Is there anything I should do or know about working with this? I've set N's up with just apple computers in the past. Any WPA issues or just compatibility or reliability issues anyone has had.
    thanks

The 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) is compatible with both Macs and PCs equipped with either Ethernet or 802.11a/b/g/n wireless. Most issues arise when using WEP encryption, but usually can be overcome with just providing the AEBSn's Equivalent Wireless Password to the PCs. However, using WPA or WPA2, is highly recommended (as WEP is no longer considered to be secure) and usually doesn't pose a problem for either Macs or PCs suitably equipped.
