JDeveloper 10.1.3, TopLink and JDBC database

I am new to both JDeveloper and TopLink, so please do not assume a great deal of knowledge on my part. I am reading documentation, but I'm not all the way through it yet, and I need to start making at least some progress on some projects. I am wanting to create an object model based on a database currently running on a FrontBase database platform. FrontBase implements SQL92. I have been able to create a connection to the database and when I test it, it succeeds. When I try to create a TopLink map from the "CreateJavaObjects from Tables" wizard, I first create a new TopLink map, selecting <Generic> as the Database Platform, and selecting the connection to the FrontBase database that I had created earlier. When I click OK in the dialog where I specify the parameters for creating the mapping file, there is a red circle with an X in it in the Database Platform item in the wizard. I'm not sure what this is telling me. Does this mean that I can't use TopLink with FrontBase at all? Or does it mean that the automatic creation of java object through this wizard can't be done? If I can't use the wizard, is there a manual or other alternate way of creating this map so that I could use the other features of TopLink at runtime?
I am working on a Mac powerbook, using JDeveloper 10g (10.1.3) J2EE Edition. The version of FrontBase is 3.6.27 (which I realize is not the most current but it is what our servers are currently running).
Many thanks for any insights into this issue. All the documentation is a bit overwhelming when you know as little as I currently do about these tools.
Yours truly,
Darlene

I don't seem to be able to find anything that allows me to import the tables from the database if the platform chosen is "generic". I get a message that says that import is only allowed for databases compatible with Oracle 10g and would I like to change my project settings. Could you make your instructions a bit more specific?
Thanks!
Darlene

  • ADF, toplink and 2 database users

    Hello,
I'm pretty new in creating web based applications. So I did some tutorials about using ADF and Toplink.
These tutorials are really helpful, but all examples I found use only one database user.
I wonder if there is a way to handle 2 or more database users.
For example I have 2 database users A and B which have the same tables an views. Now I want to display a login dialog where a username and password can be inserted. Depending to this login data the web based application should works with the tables of database user A or user B.
Is there a way to realize this with Toplink or another technology?
    Thanks in advance,
    Hans

    Hello Hanks
It's many was to solve your problem depending on the architecture you want implement and the type of software you want to build.
If you may want to develop your software as an asp solution, I will recommend you to see documentation about private virtual database, label security and new encryption facilities. With private vitual database on will be able to create one architecture to serve many different customers. This is for sure very interesting in term of maintenance and in term of monitoring.
If you may want to develop separate software modules that access separate schema to be more independant in the software version and evolution, you will be able to developp once in the top link manager and deploy your object in different place indicating in the mapping the source of your object (the schema). This may be done programmatically also. The top link documentation is very complete and helpful.
    Best regards...hope it's help

  • JDeveloper Prerelease 10.1.3 and toplink

    Hello,
I know ADF is not supported but could someone tell me please if the new prerelease of JDeveloper supports toplink and if so how well is it supported? I mean by that does it have many quirks because it is a prelease.
If anyone out there using it feedback would be great.
    Thanks much,
    Alex.

The 10.1.3 J2EE Download contains TopLink, but you won't get the easy binding to the user interface that you get with ADF.
Since it is a developer preview you might encounter problems and glitches, if you do please report them on this or the TopLink forums so we can fix them for production.
If you want a production version of JDeveloper with full TopLink support check out the new 10.1.2 release - a lot of toplink improvments in there.

  • JDeveloper, Toplink, and ADF advice.

We have application that was completely developed JDeveloper 10.1.3/4 with Toplink, JSF, ADF, and Session Facade; extremely similar to the SRDemo.
I am want to upgrade to JDeveloper 11g; however, the ADF Faces JSF will be migrated to Apache MyFaces Trinidad.
    1. Why would this be better than migrating to ADF Faces 11g? Pros and cons?
    2. Is Apache MyFaces Trinidad the future of Oracle's ADF?
    3. What would be the best approach for upgrade to Toplink and ADF 11g?
    Thank you.

    1. Why would this be better than migrating to ADF Faces 11g? Pros and cons?It won't be better than using ADF Faces 11g - it is just more feasible for automatic conversion - we can't do automatic conversion from ADF FAces 10.1.3 to ADF Faces 11g since the UI capabilities are so drastically different. We migrate to Trinidad to allow you to combine Trinidad and ADF Faces 11g in the same application. (You can't use ADF Faces 10.1.3 and 11g in the same application).
    2. Is Apache MyFaces Trinidad the future of Oracle's ADF?No. ADF Faces Rich Client is the present and future. Those are based on Trinidad.
    3. What would be the best approach for upgrade to Toplink and ADF 11g?The basic thing to do is open the application in JDeveloper 11g - things should work after the migration.
Then you can start leveraging new capabilities such as the new ADF Faces 11g UI in new parts of the application.
You might want to ask on the TopLink forum if they have any specific migration tips.

  • Newbie to databases: mysql, sql and jdbc?

    hi,
am new to databases and java-database access and was wondering if the following is correct
    1) sql is a standard
    2) mysql is an implementation of sql
    3) there is a jdbc sql driver that can access any sql database (including mysql)
    any help appreciated,
    asjf

Pretty much yes that's true.ah, so its a defacto standard? I should've said "specification" above - in the same way that j2ee is a specification, and different vendors offer different implementations?
it sounds like SQL is not like j2ee in that way?
Most of the SQL compliant databases provide a JDBC driver that you can use. You can even write your own if you have an urge to do so.does JDBC provide a backend independent way of accessing databases? ie you can swap the drivers around fairly freely?
also, i'm having trouble locating a high-level overview of jdbc - i've found the "Basic tutorial" but this is more of a low-level step-by-step guide to starting out
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/basics/index.html

  • Jdeveloper and jdbc

    Hi all
If I use jdeveloper 3.2 , does it include jdbc or where can I get a jdbc driver ?
And if I use jdeveloper 9 , does it contain a jdbc driver ?
    Thanks

JDeveloper9i contains JDBC. If you browse your Windows Navigator and you go to the folder where you installed JDeveloper, you can see that. If there is a folder in the JDev directory with the name JDBC, than you've got it.

  • Getting the full value out Jdeveloper when used with Toplink.

Hi guys. Okay, I am going to show my ignorance of Toplink and maybe even Java!
But, I don't understand the toplink mapping process. I have done some tutorials on OTN that have me use the Table-to-Object wizard on Jdeveloper. That worked great.
But now as I use my own real database, the tables have forgein key relationships between multiple tables and such. When I tired the same excercise with these tables, I get a crazy StackOverflowError when I try to run my test app.
I notice that when I create the Objects at the same time, there are collections and links put in between the classes, but when I do them one at a time, I get just POJOs basically.
So what I don't understand is, Am I supposed to bring my objects to Toplink, already created and oriented to each other?
And what are all those links between classes when I use the wizard?

I was looking for the exact version to have the engineers review what might have caused the issue. 10.1.3 developer preview 4 has been thoroughly tested and we have not been able to get a stack overflow exception during the POJO generation from tables.
I would like to get a schema creation script that we could use to reproduce this issue. I can be contacted at douglas.clarke at oracle.com.

  • How to configure my oracle jdeveloper 11g preview 4 with oracle 8i database

    hi every one
my requrirement is to configure my oracle jdeveloper 11g preview 4 with oracle 8i database with (thin driver)
    thanks in advance

    Prapan,
JDev 11g TP4 comes with 11g JDBC drivers, which do not support connecting to any database v 9.0.1 or earlier.
So, back to you... depends upon what you want to do. If you want to write your own code to connect to a database using 11g, get ahold of some JDBC drivers that support 8i and have away. If you're talking about getting the database development stuff (e.g. the embedded SQLDeveloper) to work, you're probably out of luck.
So, please define "configure my oracle jdeveloper 11g preview 4 with oracle 8i database"

  • Help on RFC to JDBC and JDBC to RFC

Help on RFC to JDBC and JDBC to RFC
    Hi Gurus
I have the scenario where an RFC will be triggered in SAP , to write to a DB2 database and insert new records in a table
and vice versa the JDBC has to read som data from a table based on a primary key, mark them as read for not be read next time and send the data to an RFC where a table in SAP will be updated.
I have never worked with JDBC before , pls advice.
is there any new issue to consider in PI 7.0 regarding JDBC
    Thanks.

    The requirement looks standard,
SEARCH IN SDN FOR JDBC scenarios, you will find many docs for sender as well as Receiver.

  • Creating a service ; What needs to be added to tnsnames.ora and JDBC url?

    DB version: 11.2.0.2
    OS platform : Solaris 10
We have a 2 node RAC.
    DB name   = mbsprd
    Instance1  = mbsprd1
Instance2  = mbsprd2I want Instance 1 (mbsprd1) to be used for our OLTP application and Instance 2 (mbsprd2) to be used for another application of DSS nature.
    Based on the syntax
    srvctl add service -d <dbname> -s <ServiceName> -r <Preferred Instance> -a <Available Instance>I am going to create 2 services
-- Creating a service called OLTP
    srvctl add service -d mbsprd -s OLTP  -r mbsprd1 -a mbsprd2-- Creating a service called DSS
    srvctl add service -d mbsprd -s DSS  -r mbsprd2 -a mbsprd1-- Starting the services
srvctl start service -d mbsprd -s OLTP
srvctl start service -d mbsprd -s DSSI guess the above steps are enough to configure a service at the server side.

  • How to use JDBC database connection in Solaris

    Hi all,
I am new to Solaris and i want to create an application using JDBC database connection.
I want a small piece of code, probably a login page code that verifies the username from a OpenOffice database (.odb) file. I am particular to know the driver name, etc. If possible give the code using JNDI loopkup.
    Thanks in advance,
    Parasou.

    Sure no problem.
Please stand by while I do your work for you.

  • How to pass dynamic values to JDBC Database adapter in PureSQL operation?

I want to fetch the records from the table via JDBC database adapter with the criteria but I should not hardcode the values inside my query. I am using Execute by PureSQL operation. Values might change in future and it is the reason I should not hardcode the values and instead I should pass it dynamically.
    This is my query:
    SELECT FROM Table0 t0, Table1 t1 WHERE t0.Field1= 'ABC' AND t0.Field2= 'DEF' AND t0.Field3 = 'CBA' AND t1.FLAG IS NULL AND t1.Field1 = t0.Field4*
The values 'ABC', 'DEF', 'CBA', 'NULL' are not fixed and it can be changed. Hence, I need to pass the values for these fields dynamically. What must be passed in the query and where to pass the User Defined Values during the run time.
Please can anyone suggest how to resolve this. I am using SOA 11g.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Ensure that you use the Adapter Configuration Wizard to do the query modification suggested by Arik. This will allow the schema for the DB Adapter getting created automatically. Also revisit this schema to assure that the data types of the bind parameters (parameters with #) have been correctly populated in the schema.
You can get some help from this too although this doesn't fully match your use-case.

  • Looking for Globalization Example with 10g and JDBC

We are converting our product to support multiple languages. I've created a 10g UTF8 database but I'm not sure how to instruct the developers on how to configure the application (java, jdbc thin and tomcat). does anyone have a good example of this I can read? Is it just a matter of having the application side set the appropriate NLS_LANG setting?
    Thanks, Woody

As far as "support for multiple languages" is concerned, there are two different areas named with this term. The first area is the ability of an application and the database to accept and process data in multiple languages. For this, you generally just need the right character set on the server side. Most burden is on the client that has to provide appropriate input methods (keyboard), fonts, and display support. The second area is the ability of the application (and indirectly the database) to provide the user interface and application behavior that is generally expected by (culturally correct for) native speakers of those multiple languages. To this area you count things like translated prompts, and other user interface elements, dates and numbers formatted according to local custom, names and other text sorted in an appropriate (dictionary/phone book) order, etc. The requirement to set NLS parameters for the database to fulfill requirements of the second area depends on how the locale-sensitive functionality (locale=language+country) is implemented. If all processing is actually done by an application, then the NLS parameters in the database do not really matter.
The platform of the server does not usually have much influence on the supported languages.
