JDeveloper, Toplink, and ADF advice.

We have application that was completely developed JDeveloper 10.1.3/4 with Toplink, JSF, ADF, and Session Facade; extremely similar to the SRDemo.
I am want to upgrade to JDeveloper 11g; however, the ADF Faces JSF will be migrated to Apache MyFaces Trinidad.
1. Why would this be better than migrating to ADF Faces 11g? Pros and cons?
2. Is Apache MyFaces Trinidad the future of Oracle's ADF?
3. What would be the best approach for upgrade to Toplink and ADF 11g?

1. Why would this be better than migrating to ADF Faces 11g? Pros and cons?It won't be better than using ADF Faces 11g - it is just more feasible for automatic conversion - we can't do automatic conversion from ADF FAces 10.1.3 to ADF Faces 11g since the UI capabilities are so drastically different. We migrate to Trinidad to allow you to combine Trinidad and ADF Faces 11g in the same application. (You can't use ADF Faces 10.1.3 and 11g in the same application).
2. Is Apache MyFaces Trinidad the future of Oracle's ADF?No. ADF Faces Rich Client is the present and future. Those are based on Trinidad.
3. What would be the best approach for upgrade to Toplink and ADF 11g?The basic thing to do is open the application in JDeveloper 11g - things should work after the migration.
Then you can start leveraging new capabilities such as the new ADF Faces 11g UI in new parts of the application.
You might want to ask on the TopLink forum if they have any specific migration tips.

Jdeveloper version and ADF runtime on weblogic

I would need to understand the link between the jdeveloper version and the Weblogic version.

it sounds like the server version to use is directly linked to the version of ADF used for the development. It is true?
Specially is it true that there is not backward compatibility. A new weblogic server would not support a application that would have been developed with a older version of jdeveloper?
At the end I would like to get all my weblogic servers on the same version and as much possible on the newest version but if I need to rework the applications that were developed on a previous version of ADF , that can be really time consuming.
I would need best practice ideas .
When I have various projects oven a two -three years period how should we deal with keeping up with the new versions of weblogic and jdeveloper?
An another question I have is regarding the ADF run time. What is so special about it comparing to a regular set of libraries?. Why can I not deploy it as part of my application? Or is it possible and it is a better path then?
FInal point, I have a application that was developed with jdeveloper 11.1.1.0 and run on weblogic 10.3.0.0 . I would like to migrate to jdeveloper 11.1.1.4. I already converted the project with jdeveloper 11.1.1.4. What should I do next? What testing should I do to verfy the conversion worked? Should I update the weblogic server to 10.3.4 or can I go with a newer version like 10.3.5?

Ok but then if you don't migrate and you are in a environment with also new development you are going to need many different servers no?
One welogic server for jdevleoper 11.1.0.0
One weblogic server for jdeveloper 11.1.2.0
One weblogic server for jdeveloper 11.1.3.0
One weblogic server for jdeveloper 11.1.4.0
How often should you migrate then because if you don't update you could be very behind after a couple of years and may be the migration could be almost impossible at that point.
We still have applications that where developed for oc4j 10 g and migration is almost rewrite at this point. (only after 3 years).
At the end, you get servers dedicated to some applications instead of having a stack of multi purpose servers.
Also let say you are starting with a project that is going to take two years, you start the developement with jdeveloper 11.1.5.0 and in two years it will jdeveloper 13.1.1.0. How do you manage this? You stay with 11.1.5.0?
We noticed that getting support for 10 g is really difficult at this point. Many people don't know anymore about 10 g and you don't get bug fix. If you don't get bug fix, how can you survive with your old version?
I know that ADF is not only about the face part, I 've been using the business services too but under ADF it is J2EE and then why ADF does not come as a set of libraries that you can link to in your J2EE project instead of becoming a server centric runtime?
People went to J2EE to get plateform independent, with ADF you are becoming server dependant. ADF is supposed to do better than .net but if you look at .net the IDE actually support old and new frameworks. If you get to develop on a older framework you can still use the new IDE. Also you can install several versions of the framework on the same server with .net.
From what I can read ADF is not even supported on JBOSS anymore so give me argument to choose ADF as a enterprise solution? Is it really the future?

TopLink and ADF

Hi,
How well is TopLink integrated with the ADF architeture?
Is there any sample application using ADF-Toplink? I know a simple workshop on ADF-Toplink was put on OTN this month. But the app is two simple (with one table - one class) and without search functionality.
Any ADF-TopLink sample app (with search function) is appreciated.

i was looking for the same thing about 3 weeks ago.
I found the best way to provide search facilities is with a named query.

[SOLVED]JDeveloper 10g and ADF: How to create proxy from WSDL behind SSL?

Hi all,
I have successfully created web service proxies using the "Create Web Service Proxy" wizard. However, when I attempt to generate proxy from a wsdl file behind a ssl connection, JDeveloper throws a "SSLHandshakeException". I have a working java keystore file which was verified by using the soapUI tool. Within the soapUI tool, there is a "SSL Settings" preference tab which allows me to point to a *.jks file/password. I tried looking for a similar setting in JDeveloper preference with no luck. Is anyone familiar with this type of request?

add certificate to java keystore with something similar to the following:
C:\jdev10134\jdk\jre\lib\security>keytool -import -trustcacerts -file MYCERTIFICATE.cer -alias MYCERTIFICATEALIAS -keystore cacerts
Enter keystore password: *******
Certificate already exists in system-wide CA keystore under alias <MYCERTIFICATEALIAS>
Do you still want to add it to your own keystore? [no]: yes
Certificate was added to keystore
The reason it said certificate already exist is because I also added it to the JAVA_HOME\ path.
I restarted jdeveloper and used the proxy generation wizard again, everything worked fine.

BUG!?! Toplink and XE in Jdev 10g Rel 3 SU4

Trying to follow (teach using) the tutorial on creating an Web App using Toplink
and ADF Faces. After creating the Map I am getting problems on the Java object
generation. I get the exception:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at oracle.ideimpl.log.TabbedLogManager.getMsgPag (TabbedLogManager.java:101)
at oracle.toplink.addin.log.POJOGenerationLoggingAdapter.updateTask(POJOGenerationLoggingAdapter.java:42)
at oracle.toplink.addin.mappingcreation.MappingCreatorImpl.fireTaskUpdated(MappingCreatorImpl.java:1049)
at oracle.toplink.addin.mappingcreation.MappingCreatorImpl.generateMappedDescriptorsForTables(MappingCreatorImpl.java:231)

HELP: include another page in with JDeveloper and ADF

Hi all,
I am trying to make a layout page with JDeveloper and ADF. But I just can't make things work. I have the pre-coded header and footer html pages and want to include them in a jspx somehow. I tried panelPage too, but the rendering style is away from our pre-coded header and footer.
1. Use jsp:include.
header works fine but footer is rendered before the page content, even if the footer is placed after the page content. Is there a way to customize the position?

COMMIT problem in TopLink, Struts, JSP and ADF Databinding sample

In the sample Developing a J2EE Application using TopLink, Struts, JSP and ADF Databinding,
I followed all the steps to build a department browse page and a edit page.
But when I get to Step number 23 in "Create a JSP to Edit Departments" I have a problem with the commit.
Only after I make a change in the form and click the sumbit button, the commit and rollback buttons become active. And After I click the commit button the data gets commited to the database but the page inofmation changes to the very first department record, not the current one.
How do I make those buttons active with out the extra click on the submit?
After I click the commit button, how do I keep the current data on the screen?

For #1, I was able to do the following and get away with not having to press submit first. I just removed the bindings for disable. I hope that does not cause any problems?

For #2, How I add an action on an HTML button? My UIModel.xml for the edit department page currently has two actions on it. Commit and RollBack. Is it linked through the "name" attribute of the input tag?

JDeveloper and ADF 11g Release 2(11.1.2.0.x) compatible WebCenter Version

We are looking to upgrade ADF to 11.1.2.0 and looking for WebCenter compatibility.
Could you please let me know WebCenter compatible version for JDeveloper and ADF 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.0.x) ?

Looking at 11.1.2.0.0 note on

and seeing, "This version of JDeveloper doesn't include the SOA and WebCenter pieces - to use these components you'll need to download Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0."
Does that mean, 11.1.2.0.0 can't be used with WebCenter?

I have a field Airticket , so i need to allow the user Yes or No for that field
so using redio button i placed , but how to display both side by side

Timesten with JDeveloper and ADF

I'm using Timesten with Jdeveloper and ADF and have noticed some problems which I allready posted in the JDevloper Forum:

These problems arise from using Identifiers with reserved words, which is not forbidden with Ora DB.
The settings in Jdev are to generate SQL92 conform code. This is the only way it works.
I'm wondering if there is a setting to make TT behave syntactical 1:1 like a Ora DB.
I even tried to change the Type Mode to Oracle and restarting TT but this doesn't help eighter.
Maybe someone of the TT pro's has a solution for this? TT is used as a cache in front of an Ora DB so it should understand the Ora Syntax ??

About licensing the Jdeveloper and ADF

Hello everybody :
I have a little doubt about the "JDeveloper and ADF" license
I am planning to start my project using it and I have read the license [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/jdev-license-152012.html] and I understood that everything is free for single user except Web Logic server needs to be licensed .
Is that what I have understood correct or not ?
Can I use this tool for developing my small project for my small business enterprise but the only one thing that I am afraid of is in the future I might face some limitations with the Web Logic Server or with any tool of Jdeveloper and ADF , So Shall I start up my project or should I search for another different tool such as Netbeans .
I would like to hear the answer before I put my self in trouble .

Well, this will cost you more money the buying a licence as you break the law. To find out what you have to pay you better call a sales person in your area (see home oracle page).

Well , though most of the things in ADF can be done through declarative implementation , there are few
aspects where we have to write piece of java code to fulfill business requirement .
As far my understanding following are the few things which are very essential .
1 ) Core java concepts
2 ) J2EE concepts ( Servlets , JSF , http methods )
3 ) Intro to XML , html , css

No need to jump on 12c! I understand you want to learn ADF. In this case read Shay's blog https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/how_do_i_start_learning_oracle_adf_and_jdeveloper whihc gives you a good list of stuff you can do. If you think you know enough about one of the topics, goto the next.
