JDeveloper 9.0.3 dialogs geometry distorted

Hi,
I am running JDeveloper9i 9.0.3 with j2SE1.4.1 on SuSE Linux 8.0 under the latest KDE 3.0.5 and several of very important dialogs' geometry is
distrorted to the point of making them unusable. The affected dialogs are used for importing existing source files into the project, looking up existing database tables - important stuff. The symptoms are: when the dialog must show a scrolled list of objects, the list comes very small, less than one element in height, attempts to resize the dialog leads to it failing to redraw and leaving complete mess on the screen. Back and Forward buttons (if available) do not force the redrawing either, they just add some visual elements from another screen. My screen resolution is high, so it's not the size restriction. Can it be J2SE1.4.1?
Any ideas?

What version of cvs client are you using? From the warning message it looks like JDeveloper is not compatible with the cvs client you are using, as it cvs is ignoring of the parameters JDeveloper is passing to the cvs client.

  • PS CS5 messes up menu bar; dialog boxes distort during drag; etc

I'm having weird problems with Photoshop CS5.  I'd love help, or even tips for how to frame the question when searching for help.
    Here are the symptoms:
    - After starting PS, if I open any dialog box and then close it, after closing the PS menu bar is corrupted -- it looks like a single row of pixels is missing through the File, Edit, Image, etc words, and at the right end of the menu bar, the three control icons are overlain with Windows control icons.  Both these problems can be seen in the screen capture image below.
    - When a dialog box is open, if I drag it around, it gets clipped as repainting tries to keep up with the mouse.  It's always rectangular, but edges flicker off to varying depths as it repaints to move.  When the mouse stops, the repaint works and it looks fine.  While moving, the faster the movement, the worse the effect.
    - When using tools such as Lasso select, the movement feedback (the selection gray line) lags a few millimeters or more, depending on speed.
To me it looks like an application + video driver problem, but all s/w is up to date.  Messing with OpenGL setting (Edit->Preferences) doesn't affect things; it acts the same with OpenGL on or off, basic, normal, or advanced.  My video card is displayed correctly in the Edit->Preference: Performance box.
The first problem (menu bar corruption) is obviously least interfering and I believe has been with me longest.  The latter two problems make PS somewhat difficult to use, and I believe showed up in the last few months (since the last time I used PS intensively, about 8 months ago).  I can't recall for sure, but I think I installed updates to both PS and ATI drivers in the last 8 months (ie., so both could be suspects).
Any ideas what is wrong, or what to search for?  What would be a good search query for this sort of problem set?
Does this seem to be an Adobe problem, or ATI, or who?
    Here's my set-up:
    - Dell Inspiron 580 with 6 GB RAM
    - ATI Radeon HD 5450
    - Windows 7 64-bit
    - PS CS5 standard edition
    Thanks for help and/or ideas!

I don't know about pre-packaged themes, but what I do is along these lines:
    Minimize Chrome on the Desktop
If you have a sharp monitor, good eyes, and don't like that Microsoft has made all the useless chrome and border space around everything larger in the later versions of Windows, you'll likely want to minimize it to make more room to do real work...
    ·    Right-click on Desktop - Personalize, ensure the Windows 7 Aero theme is selected
    ·    Choose Window Color – Advanced appearance settings...
    ·    Active Title Bar item to size 17.
    ·    Menu item to Size 15, font Segoe UI size 8.
    ·    Border Padding item to size 0.
    ·    Scroll Bar item to size 16.
    ·    Caption Buttons item to size 16.
    ·    Icon Spacing (Horizontal) item to size 27.
    ·    Icon Spacing (Vertical) item to size 41.
You can experiment with these settings to find a balance you like.
    Hope this helps!

  • Suggestions for improving JDeveloper help

My impressions of JDeveloper so far (2 weeks) are good, but I have some whinges about the Help system (as one of my project managers once said: "What's a software developer's favourite drink?" - "Whine").
    In no particular order:
    1) When you're going through a tutorial or procedure description in JDeveloper Help then you bring up a dialog, say a wizard, on Windows NT it's impossible to get back to the help to continue reading about the procedure until you exit the dialog. On Windows 2000 it can be done using Alt-Esc, but the normal Alt-Tab doesn't get you there.
    2) On a similar tack, if you have the Help window displayed in JDeveloper then invoke a dialog, then invoke Help from the dialog, you can see the Help window but can't actually select it so as to resize or scroll it, for example.
    3) Some of the tutorials and procedure descriptions haven't been tested thoroughly from scratch and are missing steps or sub-procedures. Sorry I can't be more specific but I've just noticed it going through and didn't think to note it down at the time. I have only looked at creating and testing BC4J, EJB and Web Service projects so far, and specifically created a Web Service that fronted a session EJB that used a BC4J application module in local mode to access the database. It took me a few goes and some guessing to get it working.
    4) BC4J needs a more comprehensive introduction that really gives a proper overview of how you plan, design and implement a BC4J project. The Help facility is probably not the best place for that as it's something that one needs to be able to read at leisure in a more book-like format - perhaps a PDF file (there may already be one dedicated to BC4J but I haven't stumbled across it yet).
    Regards,
    Yaqoob Johnson

    Hi Yaqoob
Thanks for your comments. We're working on improving some of the shortcomings you mention in your post.
Your first two points are being addressed by the development team responsible for Oracle Help for Java (OHJ). The modality problem is related to one of the top 25 Java RFEs in the Javasoft bug database. We're waiting for the fix.
The tutorials are being improved and revised for the next JDev release. Please let us know what you think.
We are revamping our BC4J doc over the next few releases. In the 903 release of JDev, you'll notice that there is more BC4J overview and introductory material. In addition, the BC4J doc is being reorganized.
Glad you like the PDF version of the online help.

  • Lens correction settings in LR3

Hi guys! I have downloaded LR3 yesterday and played with trial version for a few hours now. Looks like a very welcome upgrade over the 2.x version. However I cannot fully appreciate the way lens corrections module is supposed to work.
I am a nikon user with 28-75 Tamron lens. After setting "custom" lens correction profile and choosing Tamron as lens manufacturer, LR3 accurately suggests my lens model and assigns an existing adobe profile. So far so good. But there is one thing that keeps me from feeling all happy and excited about this new feature: Lightroom would not allow to save different default settings for various focal lengths. For instance, the named above 28-75/2.8 tamron lens has somewhat considerate barrel type distortion at 28mm, and at the same time at its maximum of 75mm geometry distortions are almost non-existent. So while I am happy with how LR3 handles the wide angle distortions, it makes things a lot worse with telephoto range when I apply default lens corrections.
Hence the question: can I somehow make settings in lens corretions module specific to the focal length used? Of course, I would like LR to do that for me, but since it cannot, is there any walkaround? Tweaking settings for each shot is time consuming, and I see no reason not to make this process a little bit more automated.

Adani2, I have encounter similar problems with the same lens on my Canon 1D Mark III (a 1.3x crop camera).
The quick answer to your question is no.  There is no setting in Lightroom that allows for correction at a specific focal length, apparently the software is suppose to automatically determine that.  I use to have a D80 with the Tamron 28-75 before I switched to Canon.  So I decided to process a few shots with LR3 to see if your problem was the same as what I encountered on my 1D3.
I used LR3's lens correction on three pictures, each a different focal length (28, 40, and 75).  At the extreme ends, I found 28 and 75 to not vary much from the same image corrected with PTLens (the current progam I use to correct lens distortions).  However, at 40 I ran into the same cropping and over correction problem I did with my Canon 1D (albiet it is much worse on the 1D than the D80).  It is discussed more in depth here: (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/656057?tstart=30).  Below is a picture taken at 40mm (f2.8) with the Tamron 28-75 on my old Nikon D80 with the "corrected" image overlayed on top (opacity 50%):
Before auto aligning of layers in Photoshop:
After auto aligning of layers in Photoshop:
Interestingly, the difference between PTlens and the original image for the above shot is virtually zero which is consistant with reviews about this lens (http://www.photozone.de/nikon--nikkor-aps-c-lens-tests/291-tamron-af-28-75mm-f28-sp-xr-di- ld-aspherical-if-nikon-lab-test-report--review?start=1).  Why LR3 believes there is distortion when there isn't any is rather perplexing.
My suggestion, for this lens on a crop body, would be to not bother making any lens corrections except for critical pictures (e.g. architecture) taken around 28mm.  The distortions for this lens are, for all practical purposes, negligible on cropped camera bodies.

    Hi -K-,
    Thanks for the reply,
When I try to create the connection the Logging page records the message: "failed to create naming Context for db connections at url: file: /C:/Users/rpf/AppData/Roaming/SQL Developer/system1 .5.9.53.38/o.jdeveloper .db .connection"
    The dialog does not dismiss.
I do not have any saved connections to try to connect to - this is my first and only connection,

  • LiveType - Working in 16:9

    Hey,
I changed the pixel aspect ratio to 1.2 so I can create 16:9 sequences from within LiveType so I can eventually join them with my 16:9 projects in Final Cut Express HD. All looks fine but when exported in really doesn't look widescreen.
Np back bars that I can see or anything and when merged into a 16:9 timeline in Final Cut Express HD it xreates back bars vertically instead or horizontally.
    Seems wierd.
Is there something I am doing wrong?
    Chris
PS: I exported a texture and it looked very good quality wise so happy there:)

I create a 16:9 DV-NTSC sequence (DV 3:2 in LiveType) once I am finished should I just import the project file in my Final Cut Express project file 16:9?
From there where do I go?
To be honest, I was hesitant to give specific instructions earlier because I'm not familiar with FCE. So, I'm outlining how I'd do things in FCP. Hopefully I'm not bumping up against any missing functionality in FCE
OK, after you've imported your project file into FCE, do the following:
Select the LT file (.mov or .ipr) in your Browser & press Command-9 or Control-Click and select Item Properties > Format from the contextual menu.
In the Item Properties dialog, click a checkmark into the Anamorphic field (towards the bottom of the dialog, between Pixel Aspect and Field Dominance)
    Click OK.
If your file was also open in the Viewer while you were doing this, it'll now be (the more rectangular) 16:9 aspect ratio.
For the copy of the clip that was placed in a sequence already, you'll see no change. To correct that:
Select the clip in the timeline & press Option-Command-V or Control-click and select Remove Attributes from the contextual menu.
In the Remove Attributes dialog, select Distort from the Video options (left-hand column). That is, if it's not already pre-selected.
    Click OK.
Your clips should now stretch to fill out the 16:9 frame.
Also in LiveType what should my field dominance settings be? I will eventually be editing video shot on a DVX-100.
Because your LiveType-rendered file .mov file - or .ipr project file - uses the animation codec, field dominance is not something that you need to worry about. Animation, being a progressive codec, doesn't have field dominance.
(If, by chance, you're thinking of how to eliminate rendering time in FCE/FCP, I don't believe there is a way for LiveType to produce a QT file that FCE/FCP can place into a DV sequence without rendering.)
    Hope that helps.

  • Which camera calibration profile do you use for your imports?

I have a Canon camera, and have always just imported with the LR  settings left to Adobe default, including the Calibration panel set to  Adobe Standard profile. Sometimes it provides a satisfactory starting  point, other times not. Since reading in another topic's posts  concerning importing with other profiles (and setting them as a new  import default), I have tinkered around with trying this out. Just  curious how others handle their import settings. Do you leave everything  at Adobe default (basic, tone curve, detail, calibration)? Or, do you  reset to a  custom default? What are the actual settings that you use  and your reasons why. And, do you import with lens corrections enabled.  This information would be a big help in gaining a better understanding  of this aspect of LR.
    Thanks
    Jonathan

Rob Cole wrote concerning Lens Correction settings:
I only do 80% of vignette correction, and 0% of distortion correction by default, and revisit that decision after importing, but nothing sacred about it - plenty of people use 100% for those too and do fine, or use their own pet numbers...
Yes, absolutely use Lens Correction along with Camera Profiles. Like Rob said, "No reason not to!" But there are some considerations. You may like a little vignetting in the picture and 100% pretty much wipes-out all vignetting. Also, since vignetting correction raises image corner brightness, lens aberrations such as astigmatism and coma will be more visible and can reduce image quality near the edges. It's a trade-off as to what amount to use, which will vary dependent on your lens corner performance. I use a default vignetting setting of 50% for wide angle zooms and 100% for all other lenses, and only adjust higher if the image benefits from it. Distortion setting in an ideal world should benefit from 100% correction, BUT it can also degrade the corner resolution with wide-angle zoom lense images which typically have high barrel distortion. I use a default setting of 0%, and only use it for correcting images with obvious geometry distortion. Even then I rarely need to use 100% to make things look "normal." Chromatic Abberrations adjustment can safely be used at 100% for maximum benefit, assuming the profile is accurate over the zoom focal range. The new Adobe lens profiles seem to work very well in this respect.
These are great"automatic" tool adjustments to make our less than perfect zoom lenses perform near prime lens image quality. OK, zooms don't have the wider aperature of prime lenses, but the high ISO of today's DSLR bodies give us a lot of latitude to play with!

Their aspect ratio seems correct, but the clips in my first sequence seem to have the wrong aspect ratio. This phenomenon unfortunately remains when I output to DVD Studio. I made a DVD the other day of my movie and the first scene was all letterboxed-looking; the rest of the movie was fine.
I've been careful to make sure that "show as sq. pixels" is unchecked for everything, and all of my footage was shot with my same DVX100A with a 16:9 adapter. The item properties for each funky letterbox clip are exactly the same as for the non-funky ones; the pixel aspects are always NTSC CCIR 601, the little anamorphic box is checked for each of them, the frame size is the same 720 x 480, and the item properties for the entire sequence are the same as for my other, non-funky sequences.
I'm pulling my hair out here, trying to figure out what's going on. Please help me . . .
    Thanks.

Just to confirm, was your first sequence flagged as anamorphic before you placed any clips into it? Or did you switch the flag after you dropped in the first few clips?
I suspect it was the latter, so please try this out...
With your first sequence open and active in the Timeline, select all your 'letterbox' clips
Press Option-Command-V to bring up the Remove Attributes dialog
Select Distort from the left-hand side 'Video' options, then click OK
If my hunch was right, your formerly letterboxed clips should now fill the 16:9 frame.
If I was off the mark, post back.

  • 16x9 in DV canvas?

I shot 16x9 widescreen DV with a Sony 450 and imported the footage with the DV easy setup. The viewer window adjusted to widescreen, but when I put clips on the timeline, the canvas showed letterboxing. I then exported to Compressor preset 60 minutes high quality widescreen, then opened DVDSP2 and imported the assets, but the viewer showed the letterbox. When I burned, the widescreen was letterboxed as well.
I cannot find a wat to change my canvas to 16x9 widescreen; it defaults to 4x3. How can I change the setting to achieve true 16x9 DVD playback?

First, to correct your Canvas issue...
With your sequence active in the Timeline - or selected in the Browser - press Command-0 to bring up the Sequence Settings dialog
Check the box for Anamorphic 16:9, then click OK.
Now all your footage will be stretched. To fix this...
Press Command-A to select all your clips
Press Option-Commad-V to bring up the Remove Attributes dialog
Select Distort from the left-hand side Video options, then click OK
You should be good to go (as in, you should be able to export to Compressor, then import into DVDSP 2 without issue)
One caveat: if you've created any Freeze Frames from the Timeline, those will have to be recreated.

  • [Solved] Setting Security Provider to LDAP during Deployment

    Hi,
One of our developers has created an ant script that deploys our application to an Oracle Application Server. Our application requires users to be authenticated via OID, and so we modify the security provider accordingly amd restart the application.
However, everytime we redeploy the application, the security provider is always "reset" to File Based Authentication. Is there a way in ant or in some other else to set the security provider to LDAP so we don't have to keep changing the security provider and bouncing application whenever we redeploy?
We've tried creating an orion-application.xml file already with jazn entry set to LDAP. What happens is that this file gets included in the ear file, but when it is deployed, it is placed in the OC4J_HOME/applications/myapp/META-INF directory instead of the OC4J_HOME/application-deployments/myapp directory, which is where the proprietary application deployment descriptor should go.
    Is there something we're missing?
    Cheers,
    Rey

    Hi Thanassis,
I figured out how to deploy using ant with LDAP as security provider! It's a bit of work though.
    1. Create application.xml because application needs to be deployed as an ear file.
    2. Create orion-application.xml because this will contain the entry of using LDAP instead of xml.
    3. Create a Deployment Plan. This is done in JDeveloper by creating a WAR Deployment Profile, then right clicking it and deploying to an Oracle Application Server. Before actual deployment, JDeveloper will show a dialog for the Deployment Plan. Save the file, and cancel the deployment. You can view the contents of the file in JDeveloper. Make sure the line <jazn provider="LDAP"> exists; otherwise, there was something wrong with the orion-application.xml file.
    4. I edited the Deployment Plan and removed the line for data-sources.xml because I don't want to include one. You can create one alterantively if you don't want to remove this line.
    5. Finally, in the ANT script, add some lines to generate the ear file. Then in the oracle:deploy tag, make sure you use the deploymentplan attribute, and set it to the deployment plan you saved in step 3.
    That's it! Works beautifully!
    Cheers,
    Rey
