JDeveloper problem setting up a database connection

I am having some problem setting up a connection to my database. Before I say any more let me explain what I need. I need 2 database connections 1 to a 10g R3 database and one to an 8.0.5.
I do realize that JDeveloper will only connect back to 8.1.7 because of the JDBC version that is installed with it.
What I really need to know is "Is it possible to define and use 2 different versions of JDBC" I really don't want to move back to the version that works with both because I am afraid of what performance/benefits I will lose from the latest and greatest.
The latest version that I can determine will work with 8.0.5 is the last version for 9i.
Any Ideas would be helpful.
The reason for this situation is that I have a production database that I will have to keep up with until the full version of the system is complete so that is why I even care about 8.0.5.
Thanks alot for your time,
Thom

I have a similar problem and I would much appreciate any help in this matter.
I have a wireless network set at home with two computers connected to it:
My workstation called Home-ws and my laptop called Acer. I can access the d:\ drive of my workstation from my laptop without any problem.
On my workstation I installed the Oracle 10g product and on my laptop I installed Oracle SQL Developer. On SQL developer I am trying to create a connection to the Oracle server:
My settings are as below:
Connection name: orcl_system
User name: system
Password: ******
Host name: Home-ws
Port: 1521
SID: orcl
When I push test I am getting the following error message:
Status: Failure –Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
Are there any special settings that should be made set up a wireless connection to my database?
Then I did the following things below:
1. I downloaded from oracle.com the instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.2-20060508.zip file and unzipped it in a folder called instantclient_10_2. There were a number of DLL and two jar files plus sqlplus.exe
2. I started sqlplus from that server
3. sqlplus failed with a similar error as sql developer.
4. I checked for tnsping. There is no tnsping such and exe on my laptop. I looks like I have to install the DLLs I downloaded them but there are no instructions about how to install them. Should I just copy them in system32 folder?
5. I looked for firewalls on my Home-ws workstation (where my oracle server is installed) and on my Acer laptop. The firewalls were activated. I added on exception called oracle for port 1521 on both computers and tried to connect again. I tried with both TCP and UDP options and it did not work in both cases.
I am out of ideas. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool

    Hai All,
    I am facing a problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool created on weblogic server 8.1.
    I am using the Oracle database 8.1.7.
    I have configured my connection pool, datasource and JNDI in weblogic.
    In my java program i have the following code to retrieve the connection.
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.Hashtable;
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    class jdbcshp1 {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
         Connection connection = null;
         try {
               Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();
               ht.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");  // Wanna get rid of this.
               ht.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"t3://localhost:7001"); // wanna get rid of this.
               // Get a context for the JNDI look up
               Context ctx = new InitialContext(ht);
            javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup ("myjndi1");
              //Create a connection object
              connection = ds.getConnection();
         The above code is working fine but, the two ht.put statements are creating problem.
    The problem is, after converting the application into WAR file it can be deployed
    on any machine or different port on same machine. My application fails if its deployed on
    weglogicserver which is at different port.
    Is there any way that i can get rid of those ht.put statements or any other way to solve the problem.
    any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Pooja.

    Hai All,
    Firstly, thanks for ur reply.
    Even i have seen some code which uses context constructor with out any parameter and works fine.
    i dont understand why its not working for my code.
    When i remove those ht.put code and use context constructor with out any parameter, it giving an error.
    Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup ("ocjndi");
    connection = ds.getConnection();The error is as follows:
    javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial
    the above error is forcing me to include those code but if the port number is changed the code will not work. Plz let meknow if some setting have to be made.
    I appreciate all ur valuable help.
    Thanks once again.
    Pooja.

  • Problem with having several database connection registered in JDEVElOPER

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post
    I have several AS registered in my Jdeveloper environemtn and several database connections.
    unfortunately some times Jdeveloper can not deploy an application into a server beacause it say that "I failed to create the connection pool", the project has no database stuff at all but Jdeveloper try to register and create connection pools for those connection that i hace registered in the Databse coonnection node.
    It fails because in that particular server which i want to deploy the application i have not add all databases JDBC driver.
    is there any solution for it?

  • Set password for database connection at runtime

    Hi there,
    is it possible to set the password and/or the user for the database connection at runtime.
    The use case is to read the values from a file and decrypt them, and the to establish the conenction. So that i don't habe to redeploy everything if there is a change.
    Thanks in advance.

    How exactly do i set these values for the datasource?
    Edited by: Alex on 15.02.2012 09:50
    €: JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0
    The use case is, that there is a file with an encrypted password. This should be decrypted and then be used for the connection. So when this encrypted passowrd changes, i don't want to edit and deploay the app once again. Instead the new encrypted password should be decrypted via code an then be used.

  • Set SSIS variable = database connection manager name

    Is it possible to set a SSIS string to only the name of a database connection manager or even the connection string it uses ? I don't see an option for that in Evaluate as expression property of ssis variable.
    This is what I mean -
    SSIS Connection manager name = SQL_DBASE
    SSIS String str_managerName = SSIS Connection manager name: Can you do this dynamically in SSIS ?

    I'm guessing what they really want to do is evaluate some indicator (some input from a user or an infrastructure setting) and then dynamically connect to any one of 10 (arbitrary example) database servers based on what they get as input.  They
    don't care about the connection manager per se.  What seems reasonable is the that the Connection Manager might take a server variable but if they wanted to do things like that they would have bought Datastage.
    You might try attacking this problem at the Control Level and then connect to the database you want based on a variable you set.   I'm seeing that a Sequence Container can branch on the contents of a variable.
    Or if the dba is your friend you might get the dba to add all your servers as linked servers to a central connection machine and then you might be able to do this by putting the ssis variable in a "Sql Command from a Variable" variable.
    It might look something like this:
    Server is designated in ssis var @[User::Machine]
    then executing from a variable
    "select top 100 * from " + @[User::Machine] + ".mydb.dbo.mytable"
    Be careful as hades about levels of indirection and what quotes you want at what level.  Evaluate Expression in ssis helps with this.  The syntax I show works only with an ms sql connection server to a remote ms sql server.  This is what a
    dynamic connection to a linked server connection to Oracle would look like:
    "select * from
    openquery("+ @[User::Machine] + ",'select * from oradb.oratable where rownum < 100')"
    When ever a thousand of your best friends are helping you connect to your database (using tools like linked servers as opposed to direct connections) it's probably best to use with only small specific updates or queries, large queries or large
    updates would probably take a long time and or might not finish.  But try it before you give up.   We are actually doing fairly large Oracle queries (5-10 million rows) through ms sql linked server.

    Time marches forward and I have no disagreement with any of the Weblogic decisions. The reality is though that we still do not have a clear answer from Oracle (although our clients sales folks are working on it) as to whether the client will have to pay to "upgrade" their Oracle Application Server (Enterprise) licenses to get the WebLogic server necessary to run the applications created by the final Production JDeveloper11g. If it costs money then it requires budgeting and that all takes a lot of time.
    We have a fairly rich application already developed and we cannot port it to Weblogic until the licensing issues are resolved. Until that happens it will have to continue to run on the OC4J container.
    BUT ... I consider this "not a problem" with respect to TP4 not running on Vista 64-bit as long as the final release JDeveloper 11g does. I'll just have to work in my VPC hosted XP Client until our clients get their licensing issues sorted out with Oracle.

  • [Mac OS X] Problems setting up L2TP VPN Connection

    I recently moved from Windows to Mac OS X (10.6.6). Unfortunately this move was not so smoothly as I hoped for and I am currently facing some issues with the VPN-connection to the company I work for. As with many companies they do not have a Mac-guide and I am trying to solve this issue, but so far unsuccesful.
    To access my data on the company’s server (MS TS Environment) I need to establish a L2TP-IPsec VPN connection. I used Mac OS X built in network tool and filled out all the necessary information such as vpn address, shared secret/key, password and accountname. I even double checked the information various times so no spelling errors occurred. After some seconds I receive the message that the L2TP-VPN-server does not respond.
    I checked other posts already and I checked the box that sents all traffic via this VPN-connection but without any results. For a moment I doubted that the cause of this issue might be my home-network: MBA <-> Timecapsule <-> Thomson TG789 … however when I make a L2TP VPN connection using a Windows XP or Vista pc this can be done without problems (using the same network structure) so I guess it is a mac-related problem either with my MBA (Mac OSX) or with the companies servers…
    I found out that using the console.app can provide me with some more information about the connection process:
    - L2TP connecting to server
    - IPSec connection started
    - IKE Packet: transmit success.
    - IKE Packet: receive success.
    After a couple of attemps from the 6th message it suddenly shows:
    - IKE Packet: receive failed.
    - IKE Packet: transmit success.
    - IKE Packet: receive failed.
    -IKEv1 Phase1: maximum retransmits.
    -IKE Packets Receive Failure-Rate Statistic.
    And this finally results in ' IPSec connection failed'
    Does anyone has an idea of what the problem might be (e.g. the settings of the MAC or the settings of the companies VPN or ???) and maybe a solution for this problem?
    Many thanks from a newbie but satisfied Mac-user!

    Hi, I have the same problem with the establishing VPN connection using L2TP without IPsec.

    Hi!
    I'm a new JDeveloper user.
    I can connect to an ODBC (Access) database and I can see tables in Oracle JDeveloper 9i. It's work fine.
    I can connect to an ODBC (Access) database but I CAN'T see tables in Oracle JDeveloper 10g(Connections Navigator-tables). It's NOT expanding table items. But when I enter an select sql command in SQL worksheet, it shows me datas in my tables. it's work. How can I resolve this problem?
    I've downloaded only JDeveloper 10g Preview zip file at www.oracle.com. Do I need download any program or application/driver ?
    Thanks...

    Note that JDeveloper 10g is only a preview release-- i.e. a beta. I'm sure that there are bugs in it at the moment which will be addressed in the final release.

    For Orion, your best bet is not the documentation but to search for your topic via the extensive mailing list. It is quite active and discusses such topics as pooled connections...also for other sorts of information, look at www.orionsupport.com and www.jollem.com.

  • Problem with configuring generic database connectivity

    Hi All.
    I’m very new to Oracle. I’m trying to configure ODBC for excel to read data from excel into oracle table; however I cannot go thru. I followed some instructions from this forum and managed to configure the ODBC, updated listner.ora, tnsnames.ora and inithsodbc.ora files and successfully created a database link. However, when I tried the command SELECT * FROM TABLE$@EXCEL, I got the following message: ‘ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name’. Is there any one to assist me to resolve the problem?

  • Problem in Oracle Database Connectivity in JSP

    I am having big problem such as Oracle Database connectivity problem
    Following code i am used for database connection. but it throw an exception call class not found exception.
    Pls any one can help me. With a sample code for Oracle Database connection in JSP
    Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    String url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@172.25.44.54:1521:bbo";
    con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,"user", "user123");
    Thank you

    Well i've never used oracle or their drivers before but i'm presuming that you'd go to oracle.com or something and look for downloads. Otherwise you could goodle for Oracle JDBC drivers. Then just follow the instructions.
    Again i've never used JSP but if you have a manifest file somewhere you'll need to put a class-path: entry in their referecning the jar file with the driver so that it is availble at run-time.

    that's what I am doing... after viewing the report, I call the close method on the window closing event of the container window. but the connection is still open. I had a lot of other issues with my jdbc driver but after downgrading to an older version those issues are resolved.Only this one is still there! Is there any other way to close the connection (like using dbcontroller or etc.)?
