JDK installation

Hi,
I am setting a JAVA_HOME system variable. The path for this variable must be set to the location of my jdk (i.e. C:\Java\jdk\ or C:\Java\j2sdk\). I have been using my current Java update 5.0 setup for a month now so I know everything is working. My problem is that i do not see a jdk or j2sdk directory in my Java folder. Can anyone tell me why this is? The directories I have under Java are:
-bin
-code
-demo
-docs
-include
-jre
-lib
-sample
thanks

This means that JAVA_HOME should be set to C:\Java as you have your Java distribution installed there directly, not in a subdirectory under it.

  • JDK installation finished with error code -3

I tried to use the installer for netbeans IDE + jdk (jdk-7u21-nb-7_3-windows-i586.exe). All of the netbeans stuff is installed fine, but the jdk part fails, but at least this time it lets me know "Installation of JDK 7 Update 21 was not completed."
The log files just say there is an exception at org.netbeans.installer.utils.exceptions.InstallationException: JDK installation finished with error code -3.
So it has worked fine on my other machine, I am at a loss here. Sorry again that I couldn't figure out where to post this.

  • JDK installs JRE in 'default' folder (only)

The JDK (j2sdk-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe) installs both the JRE and the JDK.
However, there is an issue if you intend to install the JDK in a folder other than the default, which is: 'c:\program files'. In that case, the JDK installs correctly, but the JRE will still install in 'program files' regardless. This creates potential conflicts with some programs, and the 'Java Home' variable in the registry will be incorrectly reflected as within 'program files'.
If you need to install the JDK in a directory other than the default, you can work around this issue by first dowloading and installing the JRE by itself. Select 'custom' install and indicate the name of the folder where you want the JRE installed. Then download and install the JDK.
If you have already installed the JDK and there is already a 'java' folder under 'c:\program files', first uninstall the JRE using Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs, and then download and reinstall the JRE by itself. Select 'custom' install and indicate the name of the folder where you want the JRE installed.
When the installation is complete, check that there is no 'java' folder under 'c:\program files'.

You seem to under a misunderstanding of the install process defaults.
However, there is an issue if you intend to install
the JDK in a folder other than the default, which is:
'c:\program files'. The default directory for the SDK (Software Development Kit, used to create Java programs) is C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04
In that case, the JDK installs
correctly, but the JRE will still install in 'program
files' regardless. The default for the JRE (A public version of the runtime, used to run Java programs outside of the development environment) is C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04
    This creates potential conflicts
with some programs,Not unless one of thes "some programs" has been created in a non-standard manner that I'm not aware of.
and the 'Java Home' variable in
the registry will be incorrectly reflected as within
'program files'.This is done so that Java programs can find the public JRE that they need to run.
If you need to install the JDK in a directory other
than the default, you can work around this issue by
first dowloading and installing the JRE by itself.
Select 'custom' install and indicate the name of the
folder where you want the JRE installed. Then
    download and install the JDK.
If you have already installed the JDK and there is
already a 'java' folder under 'c:\program files',
first uninstall the JRE using Control Panel's
Add/Remove Programs, and then download and reinstall
the JRE by itself. Select 'custom' install and
indicate the name of the folder where you want the JRE
    installed.
When the installation is complete, check that there is
no 'java' folder under 'c:\program files'.The following is quoted from the Installation Instructions for this version:
"Private vs. public J2RE - Installing the Java 2 SDK installs a private Java 2 Runtime Environment and
optionally a public copy. The private J2RE is required to run the tools included with the Java 2 SDK. It has
no registry settings and is contained entirely in a jre directory (typically at C:\Program Files\j2sdk1.4.2\jre)
whose location is known only to the SDK. On the other hand, the public J2RE can be used by other Java
applications, is contained outside the SDK (typically at C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2), is registered with
the Windows registry (at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft), can be removed using
Add/Remove Programs, might or might not be registered with browsers, and might or might not have
java.exe copied to the Windows system directory (making it the default system Java platform or not)."

  • JDK installation on Windows 8, 64 bit OS

    Hi,
I am trying to install JDK 6/7 on my new 64 bit Windows 8 OS. However none of the installation completes. Moment I click on the installer pop up comes with following message : "Java SE development Kit 6 Update 45 (64-bit) Setup is preparing the installation wizard which will guide you through the program setup process. Please wait "
I kept waiting for almost an hour or so for installation start but it dint do anything. I have tried with all the JDK 7/6 installer available but nothing works out. Is anyone aware on any such issue ?
    Thanks,

I got fail to install Java EE SDK too. Just received a popup message of missing JRE but tested ok at command console with proper path setting. I have just raised a new thread about my case. It was so poor why "NO" Oracle professional did support your thread for so long time?  .

While downloading the JDK 6 from Sun.com, It gives two options of download JDK for Windows users.
    1. Windows Offline Installation &
    2. Windows Online Installation.
What is the difference between Offline and Online Installation?

Offline:download file size is 65 MB and the installation is in your localhost.
Online:download size is 350KB but installation required network connection for download of necessary file from sun website

  • Issue with multiple instances of OC4J and one JDK installation

    Hi,
I've successfully installed two instances of OC4J 10g (10.1.3.0.0) on a single server and am able to run with two differently named JDK 5.0 installs.
However, I've not been able to concurrently run both instances with a single JDK. The 2nd OC4J instance starts, but then stops immediately with a JVM termination.
Does anyone have an idea of the cause and a possible solution to the problem, as the current arrangement adds a level of complexity to upgrades that I'd like to remove?
    Thanks,
    Malcolm White

I run two OC4J 10.1.3.1 instances in parallel without any problem. Both instances use the same JDK and run without any problems. Seems you have some problems in you configuration.
    Best,
    Manfred

  • JDK Installation Error

When I install the JDK, the installation completes and then I get an error pop-up of "Missing File Error: Unable to find locale data files. Please reinstall."
I have tried several installations of two different versions of the JDK. I can't seem to find any posts on this error. Does anyone know what might be causing it?

Doing a Google search on the error indicates that it is in no way a problem related to Java directly, it happens for different application installers. You're better off looking in Windows forums, MSDN, etc. etc.

  • JDK installation problems!

    Hello,
I'm just about starting a class in programing in JAVA this fall. I badly needed a compiler so I downloaded the JDK from SUN....
I tried to install it on my Pc at home with windows ME. After the installation(I don't even know if it was successful) it did not show up on my list of programs.
I uninstall it from the add/romove program dialogue box .I now want to delet the executable file from my destop and I cannot do it.
Please, provide any information that can help me out.
    Thanx

It probably installed OK. Go to the installation directory and run JAVA.EXE like this:
    c:\jdk13\bin>java -version
The above should return the version number you installed.
Try compiling a sample program as well like this:
    javac Sample.java
    Then this to run it:
    java Sample
Notice the first command line includes the ".java" extension and the second command has no extension.

  • Jdk installation, help please

    Hi Gurus
Well, as I wanted to install the jdk so write and run some java programs and then I have downloaded the same in the site
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/index.html
in the above site, I have clicked a link "download J2SE v1.3.1_02 now" on the right hand side and installed the same. Well, after that I found there exists only the C:\j2sdkee1.3.1 but i dont have the c:\jdk1.3.1 or whatever where one will find the java.exe, javac.exe and all.
In short, when i open a dos command window and try to type
    C:\> java
then it gives me a following error
java is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file
I immediately searched in the net to download the JDK but I always been pointed to the above site where I have downloaded the J2SDK. I am really fed up with this simple problem. I am sure this is really a simple problem for you.
I will await the answer. Tons of thanks in advance.
    Best Regards
    Kris...

You Don't mean by any chance:
A: You downloaded an older version of Java Deliberately?
B: You Installed it, and when It Installed, you chose for the Installation Path C:\j2sdkee1.3.1 and not c:\jdk1.3.1 or whatever ?
C: You cant use 'Find Files' or equivalent to find 'Java.exe' ?
D: You Didn't follow the Installation Instructions about setting
    your PATH or environmental variables?
    As: > C:\> java
then it gives me a following error java is not recognized as an
internal or external command, operable program or batch fileIf you actually did Install Java so that it is 'there'
that is somewhere you have a directory structure like:
    <JAVA_HOME>bin
    <JAVA_HOME>docs
    <JAVA_HOME>lib
    <JAVA_HOME>docs
etc,, Where <JAVA_HOME> will be What YOU Chose e.g C:\j2sdkee1.3.1
Then Search on Forum for Setting PATH etc
Ah yeh But First See This:

  • EE JDK installations freeze on XP Pro (SP3)

    XP Pro (SP3)
I was able to install this without problems.
    jdk-6u10-windows-i586-p.exe
I was not able to install any of these.
    java_ee_sdk-5_06-windows-ml.exe
    java_app_platform_sdk-5_06-windows-ml.exe
At the Installation Directory dialog, I use the default and press the Next button.
The installation takes a nap and freezes.
    I had ZoneAlarm off.
I have to use the Windows Task Manager to kill the installation.
Any idea why it would freeze?
    Thank you for the feedback.

I should also add that I was able to install these on a XP Pro (SP2) system without problem.
    java_ee_sdk-5_06-windows-ml.exe
    java_app_platform_sdk-5_06-windows-ml.exe
I was unable to install them (details in previous message) on two XP Pro (SP3) systems.
Does SP3 have some change which effects the installation?
    Thank you for any feedback.
