Jetcomp Utility Automation w/ PowerShell?

Hello everyone!
I'm working for a tech company that sells and services computers. We do a lot of routine maintenance on our customer's computers and jetcompact happens to be one of them. My job is to find out ways to make our maintenance more automated with less human interactions.
I've scoured the internet for ways to automate JetCompact but only found links to the download center on Microsoft's website. At this point I'm not even sure that it is even possible to automate this utility. Can anyone enlighten this subject? Maybe even provide
an alternative to it? I hope to use Powershell or Batch files to accomplish this.
Thanks ahead of time,
Sam

Dave - I get that it doesn't get him anything more when run against the local computer, but perhaps it can be that turning point where he gets a greater interest in PowerShell and what the cmdlet can really do. I wasn't going to wrap the executable in the
Invoke-Command cmdlet at first and then figured, why not? He asked about PowerShell. For me, I didn't always remember things the first time, but as I got more and more exposure I started to recognize cmdlets and was grateful I had seen them before - this still
happens.
Mildly off-topic, but congrats on the mentions from Don Jones in that recent PowerScripting Podcast.
Sam - In the future you may want to explore PSRemoting and the built-in ability of the Invoke-Command cmdlet to run against remote computers. If PSRemoting was set up and the jetcomp.exe was on a remote computer(s) you could use the cmdlet with the -ComputerName
parameter to run it and return the results back to you. You could even run a command prior to the Invoke-Command cmdlet to copy the executable to the remote computer first, if it wasn't already there. And before that you could test that the computer was online.
Great stuff and all possible with PowerShell.

    Hi ,
    I am not familiar with powershell .
    #create Backup Path of the Day
    $path = new-item -ItemType Directory -Path "$rootPath\$(Get-Date -f yy_MM_dd_HH-mm)"
    I think it will create a new folder to store the export image when the script start to run .
    Also the disk space for storing these image is a factor what you can think of .

  • System Image Utility / Automator Add User Account no default shell

    I've noticed when creating a customized netrestore flow in System Image Utility for Yosemite, the result of the "Add User Account" action is a user missing a default shell. Noticed this when terminal kept closing as soon as it was opened. dscl -create localhost /Local/Default/Users/USERNAME UserShell /bin/bash fixed the issue but is obviously undesired for provisioning new computers. Any ideas how to configure a default shell for new users created in this way?

    Solved by ensuring the add user account action immediately follows the define image source action.

  • File transfer from UNIX server to Windows server path

    Hello Experts, (Gud Even Gud Aft & Gud Mor)
    Is there a way to transfer file from UNIX server(Oracle database), to Windows server? All I know if Windows path. I am able to read the file as it is on server, however it does not recognize Windows directory at all.
    If you can share some documents around this to study, I will be grateful.

NFS on the Unix server sharing the directory containing the file. FTP server on Unix allowing the file to be read and copied. OpenSSH on the Unix allowing the file to be read and copied via scp (secure copy).
    But seeing as this is an Oracle database forum (not an operating system forum), and the subject matter is the database server languages SQL and PL/SQL, here is a PL/SQL solution.
    Create a table using the BFILE data type for referencing the files on the Unix o/s. Provide a web enabled procedure for downloading the files via HTTP using a web browser. This procedure will look something as follows:
    --// URL example: http://my-server.my-domain.com/MyDAD/MySchemaName.StreamFile?fileID=1234
    create or replace procedure StreamFile( fileID number ) AUTHID DEFINER is
            mimeType        varchar2(48);
            fileName        varchar2(400);
            lobContent      BLOB;
    begin
            --// read the LOB from a table (this example uses the
            --// Apex file uploads table - change it to your own files table)
            select
                    f.filename,
                    f.mime_type,
                    f.blob_content
                            into
                    fileName,
                    mimeType,
                    lobContent
            from    FLOWS_FILES.WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ f
            where   f.id = fileID;
            --// format a basic HTTP header that describes the file stream send
            OWA_UTIL.mime_header( mimeType, FALSE );        -- e.g. text/csv text/plain text/html image/gif
            HTP.p( 'Content-Disposition: attachment; filename='||fileName );
            HTP.p( 'Content-Length: ' || DBMS_LOB.GetLength(lobContent) );
            OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
            --// now write the BLOB as a mime stream using the Web Procedural Gateway's
            --// doc load API
            WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file( lobContent );
    exception when OTHERS then
            --// Decide what HTML to generate (if at all) if there is a failure
            --// (usually not a good idea to show database errors to the
            --// web browser client as that can provide technical details
            --// that could be useful for exploiting the database)
            HTP.prn( 'StreamFile() failed with '||SQLERRM(SQLCODE) );
    end;
    / On Windows, IE can be used interactively to copy the file across. For automation (via PowerShell or console jobs), use a command like tool like wget* to download the file.
    If you do not want to use SQL or PL/SQL as the file copy mechanism, then please close this thread (mark as answered) and take your question to an appropriate forum.

  • Adding a populated field to an incident form

    Hi,
    hopefully someone here can help me out, I'm looking to add a field to the Incidents form in SCSM 2012, specifically a 'Location' dropdown with a few of our sites already in it and a 'room number' text box.
    I'm having trouble getting started with this customisation and the more I read TechNet articles and blog posts the more difficult it seems.
    Does anyone have any pointers on how to achieve this?
    Thanks.

    So there are two things that you need to do to do this. First: add a place to store this information. Second: add controls to the form so those places are exposed for editing.
    The first part is more complicated, but not hard. Let's start with some design choices:
    i'm assuming these two values are properties of the affected user, rather then the incident? the distinction here is if the location and room number are the location of the user having the issue, or a unique location for this issue. imagine a printer problem,
    and bob calls this problem in. should the location field be linked to Bob's office so the analyst can find bob in the building, or should it be blank until bob specifies the room number that the printer is in?
    If you want user properties, then the first step would be to
    extend the user class (specifically, System.Domain.User) using
    the SCSM authoring tool, by adding a ENUM or list property for the location, and a text property for the room number. you'll want to
    save and seal this MP, then close the unsealed version and open the sealed version before continuing. If you want the Incident properties, you'll do the same process, only to the incident
    class (System.WorkItem.Incident) instead oft he user class.
    In regards to the second part, customizing the form: start by creating a second MP to store the form. you'll want to keep the class and form definitions separate, due to some property reference issues if they are in the same MPs. If the location is linked
    to the user, then you'll want to follow
    this example to create read only fields linked to the user in the new form. If Not, then you'll want to
    customize the incident form, and
    add a text box and
    list control to link your form properties. Either way, save and seal the form MPs and import them both into Service Manager.
    Open the forms and check your work. you'll note the dropdown has no entries. you'll want to create a third MP, this time inside SCSM (not the authoring tool) to store the List entries. find the list you created in the authoring tool and
    add some entries.
    At this point, if you are just storing the information on the incident, then you're done. if you are storing the data on the users, then you'll want to populate this information. you can do this with some automation, like powershell or orchestrator, to get
    this data populated from it's original source, say the HR system that assigns offices, or you can customize the user form to expose these properties so your analyst can start populating this data.

  • Running SEFAUtil remotely

    Hi,
    I have set up SEFAUtil on a computer where I am able to run it and it returns a correct output. Recently we developed an webservice that is running on a different server and needs to make some modification to Lync server using SEFAUtil. However, when trying
    to invoke the util remotely in PowerShell (or with winrs in cmd), it returns an error message when /verbose parameter is present:
    Cannot read contacts from Active Directory: Active Directory error "-2147016672"
    However, if no parameters are passed to the util, it successfully prints out its help so this means that the remote command works, but the problem is somewhere between SEFA and Lync server. We have also tried issuing command Enable-PSRemoting, but this did
    not change the situation.
    Is there any way of invoking SEFAUtil remotely and getting the result?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    From your description above, it can be the issue of permission.
    Please try to use the account of a member CSadministrator to login the remote computer and test the issue again.

  • Best way to automate visio diagram on sharepoint

    Hello,
    I've created a visio diagram from sql data and published on sharepoint as .vdw file. Its an orgchart diagram.
    The orgchart shapes are updated based on the values from the sql table data. But when new rows are added to table or rows are removed from the table there is no way for the diagram to add those or remove those shapes unless we create a new orgchart diagram

  • Challenge for all you great programmers out there...i need help!

    Okay, my name is Tom. I am attending a small private
    college where the computer program is very small. There are
    no Java professors or any professors with any experience.
    The library has only 3 beginner books on Java as well. So,
    for my extremely ambitious Internal Internship Project I
    need some help. I have taken a beginner course and am very
    apt to learning, so this shouldn't be over my head. Now to
    the project:
    GUI
    I have envisioned a utility automation program. Basically,
    There is 1 main pane in the GUI. I have already designed it
    but am open to suggestions. It consists of the important
    parts: The utilty buttons (on the left), the textArea (in
    the middle), and checkboxes (on the right). When opening
    the program, the textArea will simply display instructions
    on how to use the program. There will be as many buttons as
    utilities there are (for now i am experimenting with
    defrag), and the checkboxes will be aligned with the
    utility buttons but to the right of the textArea.
    Function
    When each utility button is clicked, a description of the
    utility comes up in the textArea. If you decide to use it
    then check the appropriate checkbox to the right of the
    textArea. Once you choose all the utilities that you want
    to do, then you hit the start button.
    Execution
    This will automate all of the programs so you can leave and
    come back.
    Things needed
    I need to know how to import text files to the textArea,
    how to program the textAreas to come up, and one final
    thing for now. I will have to somehow set the parameters to
    those applications automatically (Ex: "what drive to
    defrag"). So, my first thought would be create a popup
    window that asks for all of the parameters needed for each
    utility, define those values as variables, and then when
    the utilities ask for them in the automation feed them the
    variables.
    I have put about 25 hours into making the GUI, and
    designing the structure. I need a ton of help if I want to
    get this done. I am using Netbeans for convenience but I'm
    not sure i know how to insert custom code.
    Any help the ANYONE can give me would be extremely
    appreciated.
    Thanks to all, and have a great day.
    Tom

  • Remove bad dll reference after content data migration sharepoint 2007 - sharepoint 2010

    I have 400 subsites under one root site and we need to remove one DLL reference from default.aspx Home page of each sub site.
    Assmbly ref like this.
    <%@ Register TagPrefix="WpNs0" Namespace="DS.DSQueryWebPart" Assembly="DS.DSQueryWebPart, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=709ed70a96eaa5cb"%>
    This assmebly is not used anywhere .
    This assembly is reflecting in subsite default.aspx after the content database migration sharepoint 2007 to sharepoint 2010.
    Is there any way we can remove this bad reference through database query or any other way around
    sarav

    Hi,
    If are sure that this is the only customization in the default.aspx page, then you can safely  go into Site Settings -> Site Actions -> Reset to site definition -> Select Reset specific page to site definition version and enter the default.aspx
    page url. This will replace the customized page with the original site definition page. The process can be automated using PowerShell/C# Code. Here is an example:
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://aissp2013/sites/Team/"))
       foreach(SPWeb web in site.AllWebs)
      using(web)
      SPFile file = web.GetFile(web.Url + "/default.aspx");
      if (file.Exists)
      file.RevertContentStream();
    The main part here is to get hold of the default.aspx file and use RevertContentStream() to reset it to site definition page.
    However, if there are other customizations as well, then you will need to get hold of the Project or WSP file and remove the reference there and then run update-spsolution powershell command to update to new WSP.
    Thanks,
    Nadeem

  • Automate SQL Disaster Recovery

    Hi All,
    Need some suggestions on automating the SQL DR tasks. Here is the scenario:
    - We have a standby SQL Server which regularly gets updated with the content (through SSIS jobs etc) from the Primary SQL Server
    - If the Primary SQL Server goes down, we point Lync pool to the backup SQL Store to restore the functionality while we rebuild the primary SQL Server. However this SQL Store change needs the use of Topology Builder (as SQL Server names are not the same),
    a task which cannot be automated using Powershell or SQL scripts.
    Can the Topology Builder step be automated in anyway?
    PS: In OCS we had all tasks automated by using Update-PoolBackend and other cmdlets to point to the backup SQL Server. We want to do the same in Lync too, thereby reducing manual steps.
    --Hakeem

    Is your backup SQL server in a remote site or the same site? If it's remote, the only way to provide full HA failover is with a metropolitan data center design with a stretched SQL cluster and VLAN, SAN replication etc. See
    this article.
    Attempting to replicate or mirror the SQL content (using log shipping or database mirroring) is not supported and doesn't work properly. More info here on my blog http://www.justin-morris.net/sql-database-mirroring-with-lync-server-2010-series-%E2%80%93-backend-databases/.
    The introduction of the CMS (xds database) complicates DR somewhat, so you will need to first assess what Lync services you require to be available in a DR situation.
    Today, Lync provides voice resiliency quite well in a DR situation, but other services (IM and Presence, Conferencing) require more design work to provide availability in the event of disaster.
