JMF diagnostics

I recently installed JMF on my linux machine. I am using Linuxperformance pack. I tried running the diagonstics page on the website but it says JMF classes not found. I am using Firefox 1.5 and i have included the jmf.jar in class path.. When i try to run JMF based code.. i can realize the player.. It gives me can realize playere error and a code.. Has anybody encountered similar problems on Linux..

1. Fixe your CLASSPATH as metioned in
http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/setup-linux.html
2. Try the JMF Diagnostic applet in :
http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/jmfdiagnostics.html
Then in you encounter the message : JMF classes.....Not Found then we are in the same probleme ... hope that some one help us ...

Failed in JMF diagnostics in netscape browser 7

I installed J2sdk 1.4.3 and jmf2.1.1e in Redhat Linux 7.3 and following their installation instruction to set up some environment variables. However I encountered two problems in configuring JMF.
One is that when I configured the jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin, some error messages came up as following,
java.lang.error: Can't open video card 1
....................................................................2
....................................................................3
.....................................................................9"
The second one is that after I run JMF diagnostics applet program to verify JMF installation. However, it failed with the following error message,
"Java1.1 compliant browser... Maybe
JMF classes.... Not Found"
I do not what is wrong with JMF installation. Does this failure come from uncompatible version between Java SDK and JMF, netscape browser or other things?

Did you set up the JMFHOME environment variable ?
That would account for the classes not found bit.
Not sure if you also need to set up ld.library.path... ( or something similarly named ).
I haven't done much on Linux, but very carefully read the install docs...

JMF Diagnostics applet - how to resolve "JMF Classes not found"

I am still having problems trying to get my USB camera to run in an applet.
I'm using Windows XP with IE 6.
I found the JMF Diagnostic Applet and when I run it, I get the following:
Java 1.1 compliant browser.....Maybe
JMF classes.....Not Found
The text below says that CLASSPATH needs to include jmf.jar
I have checked that and it does. I added all the jar files to the CLASSPATH as well and that did not help.
I saw another post that said the JMFHOME environment variable needed to be set to the main JMF directory.
I did that and still get the same error.
Can anyone tell me what I need to set in order to make the JMF Diagnostic applet work???

I have exactly the same problem. Running XP pro and Java 5. Installed JMF2.1.1e and the diagnostic doesn't work. Don't know how to verify or set the CLASSPATH but assumed it was more plug and play.
I'm a student and am writing my final year project which is supposed to be a multi-client concurrency based video clip app. All the sample codes I've seen make it look quite easy. I was wanting to prototype my concepts before I continue (glad there are some nifty buffer controls) I've unistalled, reinstalled, restarted an no joy and the only help that seems might work includes loads more files than what my distribution has (just have jmf.jar, customizer.jar, multiplayer,jar, mediaplayer.jar and sound.jar and that's it.
I was a little worred about the need to have the API on my test client machines (aka housemates) now I'm really worried.

Everything looks fine as far as the setup goes... Unless you're having problems with a specific JMF application, I wouldn't worry about the diagnostic applet telling you it isn't installed correctly.
Very well could be a browser security issue with the applet...

Problem in inbuilt Web-camera using JMF

Hi,
I am using JavaTM Media Framework 2.1.1e downloaded from below link in my application.

Main functionality of my app is to use Web-camera.
My application is working fine on Windows XP and Windows 7 using external Web-Cam device.
However, the same application is giving problem in accessing in-built Webcam on Windows 7.
I tried to access in-built Web-Camera from JMStudio app(of JMF..File->Capture->check 'Use video device'-> Press 'Ok'), however JMStudio itself is not able to access in-built web-camera. Always I am getting the error 'Couldn't initialize the Capture Device!'.
Please note that JMF Registry Editor(JMStudio->Preferences->Capture Device->Detect Capture Devices')is able to detect the inbuilt web-cam device.
Is this the issue in JMF itself or I can resolve the issue from my application also?
Also, when I tried to do online JMF diagnostics, I am getting below error.

JMF with Fobs4jmf: Problem getting supported formats

I'm trying to use JMF with fobs4jmf to try stitching together video files into a single file. Fortunately, I found a sample program to do just that in the SDN website (http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/Concat.html).
I copied and pasted the Concat.java class in a new Eclipse Java class, set up the classpaths, and tested it. (I've gone through the pain of setting up and resetting classpaths so that the JMF diagnostics is able to detect the correct JMF installation in my machine).
However, in the tryMatch method of Concat.java, I am getting an empty array of Format objects, represented by the "supported" variable, during a call to the following:

I again don't have my code in front of me, but I did take a look at the sample code my code is based on...

Just a shot in the dark, but perhaps getSupportedFormats returns the empty set when the TrackControl object is disabled?
Try enabling the TrackControl before you try to get its supported formats, and see if that changes the behavior in any sort of meaningful way?

I'm sure I have set the correct classpath variables,i.e.

but I just can't get it to work.

I have been using JMF and developing JMF applications on Windows XP. There is no problem.
I suggest that you install "JMF windows performance kit". After you have installed it, check your CLASSPATH variables under My Computer -> Advance ->Environment Variables.
Check if the CLASSPATH variable exists in System variables and User variables. If you find CLASSPATH variables in both System and User variables you should combine them into one, i.e., only one CLASSPATH variable should exists. It could either be in User Variables or System variables. But never in both places.
After that check that your "<java installation directory>\bin" path is the first path int the PATH environment variable. Again this can either be under System or User but should never exist in both places.
After that you can try and run Diaganostic Applet again to see if everything is alright...

Dear All,
I want to use webcam on linux. But the JMF on linux is unable.
I have follow the instructions on Sun. But there were always errors. Then i used JMFDIAGNOSTICS to test my JMF. It reported:
JMF Diagnostics:
Java 1.1 compliant browser.....Maybe
JMF classes.....Not Found (But I do have set the CLASSPATH to the location where I installed the JMF in)
Can anybody do me a favour?
Is there anybody have successful experience on using JMF on linux? if so, can you give me some advice?

Trouble installing jmf

I having trouble installing jmf on my laptop runing Windows XP. I downloaded the jmf-2_1_1e-windows-i586.exe onto my computer and it run succesfully, but I am still not able to import javax.media into my jdk. When I run JMF diagnostics it also tells me that JFM classes - Not Found.
Can someone please help?

jmf-2_1_1e-windows-i586.exe is designed for Windows 9X or NT4.0. So, it may very well not install correctly.
You'll probably need to setup your environmental variables yourself. If you're using an IDE, you need to manually add JMF.jar to your list of project libraries.

When you install JMF2.1.1, Windows Performance Pack the classpath will be automatically set but i am still giving you the files for which the classpath has to be set.
JMF21~1.1\LIB\SOUND.JAR;
JMF21~1.1\LIB\JMF.JAR;
JMF21~1.1\LIB\CUSTOM.JAR.;
Try this and it will work.
Also to check the working there is a class file which performs JMF Diagnostics, if you can give me your contact email, i can send you that file and how to use it.

Problem for installing JMF

Dear friends,
I have installed the jmf cross platform version in ubuntu (in debian lenny also facing same problem). Jmf version is 2.1.1e.
I have unzipped that package under /opt directory.
It was installed successfully, without any problem.
Then I have checked the JMF installation using this below link,

I'm running WinXP and downloaded the crossplaform JMF 2.1.1e and installed it in a directory C:\JMF-2.1.1e

The reason I ask is that I have WinXP, installed
the JMF Performance Pack, used JMStudio
to do some data conversions (stripping audio
tracks out of MOV's) used the JMF to stitch
together JPEG's into MOV's, developed a few
toy JMF apps., deployed them using web start..
yet my IE still reports the exact same message
as above. It cannot run JMF applets, and I
completely don't care.

Why I get this exception in an applet?

I run the JMF Diagnostics Applet in my IE5.0,
while in the applet area,there's only the message:
Exception:java.security.AccessControlException:access denied(java.net.SocketPermission samples resolve).
The target of this applet is just using the method "Class.forName()" to find whether JMF has been installed in the visitors machine.
How could I resolve this problem?
