JRE 1.3.1_04 plugin defaults to 1.3.1_06

My problem revolves around the issue of downloading correct JRE.
When my applet runs for the first time, and older version of JRE is already installed, user is prompted to install JRE 1.3.1_06.
Unfortunately, my app needs version 1.3.1_04 which is already installed on all of my users' machines.
Please, let me know how can I default it so _04 version is installed.
Here is how I call the applet:
<OBJECT classid="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0013-0001-0004-ABCDEFFEDCBA"
WIDTH = "1024" HEIGHT = "600" NAME = "apiApplet" ALIGN = top VSPACE = 0 HSPACE = 0 codebase="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/jinstall-13-win32.cab#Version=1,3,1,4">
<PARAM NAME = "type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
</OBJECT>
Thanks,

I suspect that the #Version a valid part of the URL ?
So the codebase ignores the #Version part when connecting, which means that your clients are downloading jinstall-13-win32.cab, which, on the Sun site is probably the latest 1.3.1_06 version.
To correct, possibly get a copy of the 1.3.1_04 cab file, and mirror it
on your web server, pointing your codebase to it.
Eg. "http://mywebserver/plugin/1.3/jinstall-13-in32.cab#Version=1,3,1,4">
This'll stop the auto-install of later 1.3 versions.
But you'll still have to get your clients to
1) manually remove the 1.3.1.6 version or
2) use their java control panel to explicitly point to the 1.3.1.4 version.
Why are you so worried about the later version ?
Shouldn't be significantly different anyways ?
regards,
Owen

We had the same problem. It wasn't until we updated our NVidia driver to the latest version were we able to run the Universal Installer. The weird thing here was that we had the same driver version on another machine and we were able to run the U.I. The difference was that one one machine, we had a NVidia Vanta video card from Compaq. On the other machine we had a NVidia Vanta\Vanta LT from NVidia. Hopefully, just upgrading to the latest video card drivers will solve your problem.

  • Configuring JRE 1.4.2 plugin for TLSv1 only server

    Hi,
I have apache server configured that talks only TLSv1. I wasn't able to load an applet from IE on JRE 1.4.2_05 plugin. so I did the following
1.Edited the file Documents and Settings\<<username>>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties file and added an entry "deployment.security.TLSv1=true"
The applet wasn't loading even then , so in JRE control panel --> Advanced tab in Java Runtime parameters , I added -Dhtps.protocols=TLSv1, It was failing again
When I tried the same on JRE 1.5 , after the step 1, I was able to load the applet, but on JRE 1.4.2 ,I am not able to load the applet for TLS only server
Please let me know , if there is any any workaround, or this is JRE bug,The error which i got on the console is
    at java.net.SocketInputStream.read(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.InputRecord.a(Unknown Source)
    Thanks

I am seeing similar behaviour with JRE 1.4.2 and it appears to be a bug as it does not take the value specified in https.protocols.
You may want to try 1.5.0_05 as it has the enable TLS option in the Java Control Panel under Security.

  • How to set JRE 1.5.0_07 as default Java from the cmd line in Windows

    Hi All,
We are currently in the process of upgrading our company to IE8. As MS JVM is incompatible we need to remove it.
However, once we have done this JRE 1.5.0_07 is not the default version of Java any more for IE8.
My question is - Is there a command line switch to set set JRE 1.5.0_07 as default Java from the cmd line in Windows. ie the setting in Java Control panel where you would tick Internet Explorer?
    Thanks in advance!

This is to confirm a similar issue. Here is the scenario:
We are currently using IE 6 and looking forward to upgrade to IE 8. Our current Java version is: J2RE 1.5.0_16.
When updating from IE 6 to IE 8 with J2RE 1.5.0_16 on a test workstation, we get the following error from the Java testing website (http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml): "load: class testvm2/Main.class not found."
    Workaround :
-> Change Java JRE Network Settings in Control Panel to "User proxy server : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xx"
We are using an autoconfig.pac file and it seems IE8 can't parse the settings to JRE to go through the proxy.
Please advise if you have a fix for the autoconfig.pac file.

  • JavaFX Netbeans plugin defaults to 1.5 runtime always?

When compiling using the JavaFX plugin I noticed in the output the following command
javafxc.exe, -profile, desktop, -target, 1.5Why target 1.5 explicitly when I have 1.6 installed? In fact, I thought that JavaFX required 1.6.0_10 or above.

How does the plugin decides which JRE installation to use when running a project in Netbeans?
When I try to run a JavaFX project in [Standard Execution] mode it is always started with Java1.5, but when I run the same project in [Web Start Execution] mode it is started with jdk1.6u11.
My main problem is that I want to test some features (like non-rectangular windows, and opacity) that are not supported by Java1.5, but Netbeans insists on running the project with Java1.5.
Netbeans itself is running on jdk1.6u11 under Vista Ultimate x64.
The [JavaFX Platform] for the project is set to [JavaFX SDK on Java 1.6 (Default)], though Netbeans seems to ignore this setting.

  • JRE 1.2.2 plugin won't attach to IE

Greets fellow developers... I'm having this issue with the JRE plugin 1.2.2 (all build versions)
Let me set up the scenerio. I am currently testing an application that requires a version of the JRE to be installed as the app uses an applet to fuction. (the applet retreives HTML rather than the browser...)
In our test lab, we have a series of machine that have various OS's and browser versions. (example, Win95:IE50, Win98:IE60, Win2K:IE55, etc, etc) we cover all the OS's from 9x to XP and all major browser versions from IE 5.0 to IE 6.0. It's a large testing matrix.
Our testing requirements indicate that we must test with JRE 1.2.2. with each of the OS and browser combo.
The problem is that after installing 1.2.2 as the only JRE on the machine, IE does not seem to recognize that the JRE was installed. If I open the broweser (any browser version) and visit the Advance tab, I do not see a setting that allows me to 'check' and use the 'Java (Sun) Use Java 2 v1.2.2 for <applet>' option. Even if I enter the Java plugin control panel, check the appropriate boxes to say 'Use IE' etc, when the application launches and detects that a VM is required, it defaults to Microsofts VM (v1.1.4). Does any one happen to know if this is a known issue that the 1.2.2 plugin will not attach IE? All indicators say that it installed correcly. All the options are set as they should be. All registry entries have been purged that had any left overs from 1.3.1_xx and 1.4.1_xx plugins. All files have been deleted and such. (yes, even rebooted just in case) but I cannot get any of the OS's or browsers to recognize the 1.2.2 plugin. 1.3.1 work great, as does 1.4.1.
can anyone offer any information as to what I might be missing or what I need to do to get 1.2.2. plugin to work?
    Thanx

P.S. Sorry the message is so long.

It could be a problem with the <applet> tag. See this site for alternatives:

  • Install Java JRE 1.4.2 plugin on Phoenix on Windows

How can I install Java JRE 1.42 on Phoenix on Window 2000?
In the Java Plugin-in control panel, it only has Mozilla 1.1 and if I click it, it said I don't have mozilla 1.1 install.

You have to add the following (dummy) key to your registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org\Mozilla]
    "CurrentVersion"="1.0"

  • Force using older versions JRE & Java Plug-in as default version from IE

We have a web application that relies on JRE on client machines. It works properly with verion 1.4.2.xxx. Recently some of the users got updated to Version 1.5.0 automatically (auto-update feature). Now the web application doesn't work as expected on those machines.
I want to know if there is any specific way I can force a machine to use an older version as a default version i.e. without completely removing the new version.
I already tried various tricks like changing registry settings, Env Variables, etc. The default version changes when accessed through command prompt (java -version), but when I go back to the web page, it still loads the New version.
    Appreciate your advise. Thanks.

    Hi,
I was wondering if you ever found a solution to this issue. I am having a simlar issue where we have 3 JRE versions on our terminal server.

    Hi @drodavis,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see your HP Photosmart C309a keeps defaulting to the photo tray as opposed to the main tray, you went in and changed the default tray back to the main tray but it still pulls from the photo tray.
I want to make sure when you are selecting the main tray you are changing the settings for ALL print jobs and not just a single job. If you are changing the settings for a single print job this would be why it keeps defaulting back to the photo tray. Take a look below to get started and change the print settings for ALL jobs:

  • JRE 1.4.x Plugin - Signed Applets and Weird Behaviour (Policy)

    Hello.
I have recently experienced some strange behaviour related to signed applets and policy files in JRE 1.4.2-b28 ( a friend got the same behaviour in a flavour of 1.4.1-xx as well ). Both tests were on Windows 2000 Professional platforms.
Initially my unsigned applet, which attempts socket connections to a server different from the download location, fails with security exceptions ( as expected ). Then I did the following to sign the applet jar and configure my environment
Steps: 1) Import "trusted CA" certificate into ${java.home}/lib/security/cacerts. (JRE home outside the JDK)
    2) Signed the jar using jarsigner and a certificate generated from the "trusted CA" (Entrust CA and certificate).
    3) Imported the signing certificate into the Java plugin using import in the plugin control panel.
    4) Created a new keystore (keytool, jks) and imported the signing certificate into the keystore with alias "developer". The keystore is stored in the user home as .keystore.
    5) Created a .java.policy for the user and attaching the keystore in 4) to it. ( also stored in user home ).
    6) Used the policy tool to grant socketpermissions to the specific codebase ( testing with file:/C:/test/* initially ) signed by "developer"
After this, when I ran the test page under IE 5.5SP2 and Netscape 7.1 it worked without any security exception. Ditto for using the appletviewer and the policy file I created for the user.
The weird part occurred when I removed the policy entry from the user policy file. After doing this, Netscape and IE still allow the applet to execute - somehow remembering that it was granted permissions at some point. The appletviewer does not allow it to execute, generating security exceptions.
It appears the old policy is being cached somewhere, but I cannot find where. If I replace the applet jar with an unsigned version it does fail in IE and Netscape. I tried cleaning the plugin cache and removing the "deployment.certs" files related to the users but still get the same behaviour.
Does anyone know where the old policy information is being stored ? Does anyone know how to revoke the permissions so that I am restored to my original base environment ( no permissions for "designer" signed applets ) ? Would attempting to utilize the AccessController.doPriveleged( xxxx ) operations in JDK 1.4 avoid all of this confusion with policy files, keystores and certificate storage ? After all the messing about I would like a zero-footprint alternative ( or minimzed footprint anyway ).
Any ideas would be most welcome.
    Regards,
    James.

    Hello Again.
I am either enlightened or confused at this point. I found that as long as all of my related Jars are signed ( even by self-signed certificates ) I am granted SocketPermissions for calls outside of the originating server. Unsigned code is refused, but even when the Jars were signed using a self-signed certificate the Socket calls were allowed.
Am I experiencing the appropriate behaviour in this case ( which would mean not having to utilize policy files to distribute an applet that uses calls to arbitrary servers - e.g. JavaMail ) or am I suffering from something damaged in my environment ?
It has been a long time since I played with signed applets and I am having difficulty determining what operations require policy file entries/AccessController.doPrivileged() calls and which are granted when a user elects to trust a signed applet without policy.
Any assistance in clearing up my confusion would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    James.

  • JRE 1.4.1_03 Plugin Security Manager

    Hi,
We have a signed applet that runs fine under previous versions (i.e. 1.4.1_02 and earlier) of the Plugin, but throws a java.security.AccessControlException when 1.4.1_03 is in use. Has anyone else seen this? To verify, I uninstalled all of the JRE's, reinstalled 1.4.1_03, retested and got the exception, uninstalled 1.4.1_03 and installed 1.4.1_02, retested with no exception thrown.

Ok, here's the stack trace (along with some additional plugin output). The basic question is why would we be getting this exception only when JRE 1.4.1_03 is installed and not with JRE 1.4.1_02?

  • "FlashPlayer.plugin" default application

Could not find the specific solution to my problem in the
    forum yet.
I run Mac OSX 10.5. When I access Flash enabled sites my
browsers shutdown (Firefox, Safari) on specific pages. I have tried
to uninstall/reinstall Flash 9 to no avail.
I noticed when I search my finder window for flash and click
on Flash Player.plugin...I receive the message "There is no default
application specified to open the document "FlashPlayer.plugin.
    Anyone help??
    Thx

Same here on my 10.5.1 (Leopard). You can do this procedure
    to reproduce the crash:
    1. Launch iPhoto and choose a event that contains some photos
    and videos AVIs from cameras.
    2. Quit iPhoto.
    3. Launch Safari or Firefox then goto YouTube home page.
    4. Now launch iPhoto again into the last event selected.
    5. Wait some seconds...
    6. Then you get Flash Player plug-in CRASH on Safari or
    Firefox.
I believe guys from Adobe know this bug and I suspect we must
    wait next Flash Player version.
This not occur in Tiger OS !!!

  • JRE 1.6.0_05 Plugin settings ignore cache size

    Hi!
I just tried to reduce the cache size of my Java plugin and, however, this setting is ignored by the plugin. I set the size on 50 MB, but the plugin still caches temporary files in the default folder (C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\mas\Anwendungsdaten\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache ...) - actually about 100 MB.
Does anybody knows why, or is this just a bug?
Is it okay, that the plugin caches all files of an applet several times, although its always the same applet (same version, same host, same everything...)?
    Thank you in advance!
    Best regards
    Marc

    Hey lynchmob,
Try these steps to correct the problem, you need to be logged in as an administrator:
    1. Go to the group policy editor. You can get they by typing gpedit.msc into the Run dialog.
    2. Navigate to computer configuration->administrative templates->windows components->internet explorer.
    3. Disable "make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user)".
    4. Login with the user account and go to Internet Options.
    5. Go to the Connection tab.
    6. Click on the Lan Settings button.
    7. You may notice that the proxy settings are not correct. Change the proxy settings to be whatever is required for your proxy.
    8. Configure Java to use browser proxy settings.
    9. Open the java console.
    10. Set debug level to 5.
    11. Press 'p' to reload proxy settings. Use the trace messages to verify correct proxy settings were loaded.

  • JRE 1.4.2 Plugin - Error in console window

I have just installed the latest JDK 1.4.2. When I run any of our applets I get the error below in the console window.
Can't find bundle for base name sun.awt.windows.awtLocalization,
    locale en_GB
I have tried this on other machines and get the same error.
It didn't have this problem with the previous installation that we used 1.4.1_04.
Has anybody got any idea what's causing it and how to fix it ?
    Thanks

I have the exact same problem, and when i try to use the back space button in a text field in the applet, it either shows as Question marks or as rectangles...
This is not an issue with MS VM...
