JRE 1.4.2_04 doesn't install Java browser Plug in... :(

As the title say, therefore I had to uninstall 1.4.2_04 then reinstall 1.4.2_01... the "Browser Plugin Installation" Screen with two check boxes (Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator) from 1.4.2_01 disappeared in 1.4.2_04, what's up with this?

It appears that the version string has been dropped from the Control Panel plugin. Look for a Control Panel entry simply titled "Java".
I've also noticed that it is no longer possible to manage different JVMs on my client machine starting with 1.4. The 1.5 installation takes over the Control Panel console, thereby essentially eliminating my ability to select 1.4.2, etc.

I need to install Java SE6 plug-in but Java says I need OS X version 10.7.  The most current OS upgrade is 10.6.8.  Anyone have any ideas how I can get 10.7?

10.7 is Lion. You can purchase it and download it from the App Store.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you haven't installed Java yet, download and install it >http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 Keep Safari closed during installation and restart your computer when finished. It's not necessary, but it's to make sure that Java installation went properly.
Then, go to a Java site and see if you can watch Java content. It's important to keep it updated, and disable it when you aren't using it. You can do it in Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Security

  • Software Update doesn't install Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1

The installation blue bar gets about 60% of the way across the screen then seems to freeze and doesn't go any further. Has anyone else had any similar problems with this install? All other software updates are fine.

    Manually download and install it.

  • Cannot open Photoshop: get error: To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?  However installing Java SE 6 runtime does not fix nor does installing Oracle Java SE 7. Adobe says Apple is problem.

Searching the internet for solutions to this and some discussion with Adobe.
Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
Found various links that might be helpful:

However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6  is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message  and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting.

  • JRE 1.4.2_04 install and un-install issues

I was having problems running a Java app and I decided to un-install and re-install my JRE. I am running Windows XP Pro SP1 and IE6 SP1 as well. I went to "Add remove programs" and I noticed I had both of the following:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2_03
Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2_04
I uninstalled revision 3 ok, but unistalling revision 4 gives me this error:
"Failed to extract file 'Dll_ini' from binary table"
I get the same exact error trying to re-install Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2_04
I'm stuck here... can anyone lend a hand?

    So... 14 hours later...
I found a mirror site that had JRE 1.4.2_03 and I downloaded and installed it and I was able to run the apps, but I still could not un-install revision _04
I did these 5 things and was able to get JRE 1.4.2_04 installed. Actaully, once the Sun license acceptance page came up on install I canceled it because the errors Iwas getting previously happened prior to the License page, so I knew it work. I un-installed revision _03 and then installed revision _04 with the hopes of squelching further errors.
    1. Check and make sure msiexec.exe is not in memory. If it is, and no setup is running at the time, end that task and restart the system. Alternatively, try START, RUN, type "msiexec /unregister", OK and then START, RUN, type "msiexec /regserver", OK
    2. Clean out the Temp directory. C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME HERE>\Local Settings\Temp
    3. Delete the C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver folder and then rerun the setup.
    4. The other potential cause is a missing Stdole.tlb, stdole32.tlb, or stdole2.tlb file. These are core Windows files and should exist on your machine.
    5. I ran SFC.EXE, I did have core WinXP Pro files missing. See MS Knowledge Base article Q310747 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310747

  • I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now Firefox doesn't work, also it asked to install Java to run Adobe Illustrator

I just upgraded my iMac from OS 10.7.5 to 10.8.3. Firefox was my default browser and has all my bookmarks. Now when I try to load a page, the content is all jumbled and doesn't display correctly. I just updated Firefox to 20.0 but it still doesn't work right.
Also, the first time after upgrading, Adobe Illustrator wouldn't start unless I installed Java. Isn't that the program that should be disabled because of security issues? Or has that been resolved?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I think I figured out Firefox, I went under Help > Troubleshooting Information > Reset Firefox.
I only have one account on my computer. Honestly I don't even really know how multiple accounts work. I've never played around with it. I already allowed Java - should I disable it?

  • Java 1.4.2 SDK/Netbeans cobundler doesn't install Webstart?

According to the docs Webstart is standard for 1.4.x, but while the 1.4.2/NetBeans cobundle install creates a javaws subdirectory in j2sdk_nb, it doesn't install it - no Webstart launcher on the desktop and no auto-loading the launcher when a jnlp file download begins. Just as if webstart wasn't there. Any help how to get this working is appreciated or else I may have to install j2sdk/netbeans separately in order to get the webstart install working...

The sdk/netbeans bundle contains j2sdk with no public skd.
(actually it invokes the sdk installer silently, without enabling the install of a public jre.)
To fix this go into add/remove programs, click on the j2sdk1.4.2 and click on change.
then you can click on modify, and install the public jre.

  • I have mac os x 10.6.8. The system preferences doesn't show java at all. How can I install java please?

    Hi!
I have mac os x 10.6.8. The system preferences doesn't show java at all. How can I install java please?

Don't change your story now. You did not say through Apple, you first gave a link to this site,
    http://www.java.com/en/download/apple.jsp
You said, "Go there and download the latest version of Java"
    that plainly says,
"Mac OS X Version 10.6 and below
Use Software Update available on the Apple menu to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac."
This corroborates me saying that Java for Mac OS 10.6 is done through Software Update, no where else.
If any Mac OS 10.6 user does not have Java on their Mac, they get it from Apple just as the link you provided shows it is from Apple. Not Oracle. You have provided the evidence that plainly contradicts yourself.
This is your second link that is to Apple.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Just to go over this again. Software Update not only updates Java to the latest, but if Java does not exist at all, SU will install it from scratch. And in doing so will be the latest version.
Providing a link to Oracle's site is useless information that does not get Java installed on a Mac running 10.6.

    Hi,
I have the same problem on two German windows 8.1 machines! I'm able to install the JDK but not the contained or separate JRE -> tested with JRE 7u67 & JRE8u20.
The suggest workaround (user: 2709705) -> install the english language pack.
Maybe a interessting information -> I saw the "Restore Java security promts" dialog the first time after the english language pack installation & the default display language switch.
    Regards,
    Steve
PS: I had a problem to install the english language pack on my Windows 8.1 machine -> the language pack wasn't available .... the answer of this form thread fixed my problem: Language Pack not usable message in Windows 8.1

  • Paying $5 USD For Someone to Properly Install Java JRE & JDK in CentOS 5

The title says it all.. I've been having so much trouble with this that im willing to pay someone 5 dollars to install JRE & JDK Properly for me. This is not a scam you'll have to install java 1st, ill give you access to the server. PM Me for more information or add me on:
    AIM: MarioElFlaCo
    MSN: [email protected]
Payment will be sent through paypal only!

Did you get a solution to your memory usage problems.
We developed an applet which uses JAI 1.1.. yes of course with JRE1.3.1 plugin. The applet functions as a viewer for TIFF images and also allows users to manipulate them. We have ensured that there are no static variables and scope defined for variables is the minimum required. But we are still facing an undefined memory issue.
When print is executed on the image (using Java2D), a few times ... it just hogs memory. Or I change the image loaded 2 -3 times and refresh the applet, it seems to run out of memory, and finally hangs.
We have tried to do a System.gc.. to no avail.
    Would appreciate help on this.
    Thanx

  • HT5368 Why doesn't clicking on "Inactive Plug in" work after installing Java v10.6_35 update?

I've been using a Java app to view Autodesk files on the City of Los Angeles NavigateLA site. Basically, you enter a street address and get a specialized
map capable of retrieving land contours, Lot numbers, landslide areas, special zones, etc. I had been using this site since 2005 with no problems.
Lately I noticed that I couldn't retieve the maps, and got an "inactive Plug-in" prompt instead. I did a little research, then today I noticed that my iMac was prompting me for a software update, which was the Java v10/6 most recent update. According to the literature, this update would enable me to click on the "inactive Plug-in" prompt and then it would activate the Java applet. Well, I d/l'ed the update, checked through "preferences" to make sure that it was installed (on the plug-in list) and "checked-boxed", but still no dice.
My iMac is working well on all other programs/websites etc. Any and all help appreciated

    UPDATE
Well, I figured it out. Apparently there has been security problems with Java, most people are tired of it or simply don't like it. Apple has made it so you have to go into Utilities and activate it as well. So you have to activate it on the computer as well as your Browser.
Simply downloading the update isn't enough........

  • Installing Java on an NT4 computer without an Administrator account

The problem is: I've got a normal PC where Java works perfectly (because I'm an administrator there). Well, that's not the problem really, but the thing is that I need to run a Java application on a computer where I don't have Administrator rights (NT4 with Service Pack 5a) and what is still worse, I can only write into C:\ and C:\Temp. I've got an H:\ network drive to store all my files.
Java 1.4.0 cannot be installed (InstallShield tells that writing into C:\Program Files\Common Files\ isn't allowed).
Java 1.3.0 also can't be installed because it wants to write into some other write-protected directory.
Installing Java from java.com through Internet Explorer doesn't work because is needs Service Pack 6a at least.
The only option left is copying Java from another computer or, well, getting JRE from the installer. I've tried running "java -jar MyApp.jar" and it keeps telling me that a registry key "SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment" is missing. I've searched that key on another computer and is was inside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE where non-administrator users don't have any write-access.
Is there an option to tell Java the path to its resources in the command-line or putting the registry key into another location where an ordinary user can create it?

I've tried running the same not-installed JRE on the same machine and it worked! I don't even know what happened. Amazing!
