JRE version problems on OS X

Hi Everyone,
With the release of 1.4.1 on OSX, I've been trying to test our product. I didn't have problems with one of the prior developer previews, but after installing the final, I can't get IE or Netscape to recognize 1.4.1 is installed. (Our product requires 1.3.1_03 as the minimum and the browser keeps trying to have us install this rather than use the 1.4.1 that's installed.)
I tried the latest Safari browser which DID properly launch 1.4.1, but errored out at some point during the load. Since I've gotten this working fine in the past with the developer previews, I'm certain it will launch fine under netscape - if only I can get it to recognize 1.4.1 and use it.
Any suggestions? Our class id is correct and not forcing 1.3.1_03, but I am at a loss as what to try next as Mac's are not my forte.

Yeah, I gave up on IE on the mac long ago - what a piece of crap.
What's weird is while I was testing the developer preview versions of 1.4.1, it worked great under netscape. I just can't understand why the official release doesn't.
Thanks for your help. And Netscape, if you're reading this - get on the ball!

  • JRE version problem (XML Parsing)

    Hi,
    I posted a question earlier about an issue I'm having with an applet running in the Eclipse IDE but not in-browser. I have checked the JRE version for both and the browser is running 1.6.0_01 and the IDE is running 1.5.0_06. Now I could uninstall the former to force the browser to load the latter I believe but that doesn't solve the issue as I would need it to run on the newer JRE version.
    So my question is, what would cause the following error to occur in a later version of the JRE?
    Exception in thread "Thread-9" javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError: Provider org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl not found
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

    It has nothing to do with new or old version of jre it has to do that the explorer jre (5) can not find the jar file it needs. It is looking for the class org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl but it can not find it.
    In you Eclipse you do have this jar that's why it is running, just copy the jar to the lib or lib/ext folder in the jre 5 and everything should work.

  • JRE version problem

    This is the version of Java I used to compile my applet. I have used Sax parser in my applet.
    C:\>java -version
    java version "1.4.1_02"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_02-b06)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_02-b06, mixed mode)
    This applet would not run in an environment that has JRE 1.3.1.
    Will I have to recompile all the files that the applet used in order for this applet to work in JRE 1.3.1 ? Is there any other way to solve this issue
    Thanks for your insite in advance.
    peace out,
    Kris.

    You may also have two different JREs on the same system.
    A typical scenario is thus. You download Microsoft Internet Explorer. You download and install the Java plug-in for IE. Then you decide you want to develop your own Java application and download the JDK.
    As a result, the browser will be associated with one JRE (typically in c:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE), and your JDK will have a seperate JRE (typically in c:\j2se_1.4.1\).
    When you type Java -version at the command prompt, it checks the PATH environment variable which points it to the JDK. If you run the applet from within the web browser, the browser explictly calls the JavaSoft JRE that it knows about.
    It looks like your applet is smart enough to realize that it will use the older version and it won't work properly on that version. However, it doesn't look like it's smart enough to find the newer version.
    I would try upgrading the plug-in.
    And of course, I could be wrong. You might not have Javasoft afterall.

  • I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Is Apple aware of this problem? No longer supported?

    My web page uses a Java Applet to allow my visitors to replay chess games; the Chess Viewer Deluxe applet was written by Nikolai Pilafov some time ago and has been working properly for some time (until recently). I don't monitor this part of my site regularly so I am not sure when it began to fail. On his web site [http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/11/chess-viewer-deluxe.html] he has a link to check LiveConnect object functionality (which fails for OBJECT tags). His recommendation is to "seek platform specific support which might be available from the JRE developers for your platform".
    I have been getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ZeroApplet.class and java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: JavaToJS.class crashes with JRE version 1.6.0_26-b03-384-10M3425 VM executing a Java Applet. Until I checked the LiveConnect object functionality, I was unable to identify the source of the console error messages. This does seem to be the smoking gun.
    Is Apple aware of this problem? Are these classes no longer supported? Has anyone else had this problem? You can attempt to recreate the problem locally by going to my web page: http://donsmallidge.com/DonSmallidgeChess.html
    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

  • Problem selecting the right jre version with jnlp

    I am using Webstart 1.4.2.
    When instaling, it correctly found 2 jre versions on my system, 1.4.1_03 and 1.4.2.
    Because our application currently is not working with 1.4.2 I need to force webstart to use 1.4.1_03.
    I tried to set the tag <j2se version="1.4.1_03"
    When loading from the websever I get a "Error Code 11 (11 Could not locate requested version) "...same if I explicitly set to 1.4.2.
    I suspect that webstart is checking the "platform version" which are set for both to 1.4 and not the "product version" (see java preferences in webstart).
    Does somebody know if there is another jnlp tag I can use to force a specific version? or any other workaround.
    In my opinion this is a bug webstart should check the product version
    Thanks Marc

    had the same problem...
    ad the url and try again:
    <resources>
    <j2se version="1.4.1_03" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se"/>
    <jar href="...
    as far as I now are not all JRE's available for autodownload.
    Good luck!

  • IE 7 problem with jre version 1.4.1

    We are experiencing a problem with a site that is running java applets. It requires version 1.4.1. After logging into this site, a second window should appear. There are several times when that second window will attempt to open but then closes immediately. The only fix that I have found is to open the Java Console (tools>Sun Java Console) with the browser open and then immediately close the console.
    Is there another workaround or fix?
    Thanks

    Starting in JRE 5.0u7 and 6, we have family clsid support for the 1.4.2 and 5.0 JRE family. Please refer to Deploying Java Applets With Family JRE Versions in Java Plug-In for Internet Explorer for details. In your HTML page you can specify the 1.4.2 family clsid so that the latest installed JRE 1.4.2 version on the machine will be used. Note that we no longer support JRE 1.4.1. Please migrate your applet to JRE 1.4.2 or newer JRE versions.

  • JRE Plugin Version Problems

    My program uses the JRE 1.3.1 Plug-in. I downloaded this version, and allow users to download this version from my website so that the JRE versions stay consistent.
    I see that there are newer JRE versions released by Sun. I went ahead and downloaded JRE 1.3.1_01 and the JRE 1.3.1_01a. It seems that after installing the JRE, and when the browser envokes the applet, the Plug-in is not detected! It prompts me to download the Plug-in again?
    Anybody have any suggestions? I just wanted to know if this is a bug, or am I doing something wrong? I'd like to use the latest JRE released by Sun, instead of using my current Plug-in version: JRE 1.3.1.

    It seems like the web page you have is not lokoking for the right Plug-in.
    For example
    for Netscape
    <EMBED
    type = "application/x-java-applet;version=1.3"
    code = "myClass.class"
    java_codebase = "/myApp/includes/"
    archive = "/myApp/includes/myJar.jar"
    scriptable      = "true"
    pluginspage = "/myApp/netscape_plugin.html">
    <NOEMBED> </NOEMBED>
    </EMBED>
    thid will require 1.3.1_01.
    The Type tag makes the difference.
    For MSIE.
    <OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" WIDTH = 980 HEIGHT=575 codebase="/myApp/includes/jinstall-13-win32.cab#Version=1,3,0,0">
    <PARAM NAME = "code" VALUE = "myClass.class" >
    <PARAM NAME = "java_codebase" VALUE = "/myApp/includes" >
    <PARAM NAME = "archive" VALUE = "/myApp/includes/myJar.jar" >
    <PARAM NAME = "type" VALUE = "application/x-java-applet;version=1.3">
    <PARAM NAME = "scriptable" VALUE = "true">
    I didn't figure out why but if "application/x-java-applet;version=1.3"
    is equal to
    application/x-java-applet;version=1.3.1
    it will go for the 1.3.1b24
    Anyway to summarize it all I think that your web page tags needs some minor adjustment.
    Hope that help.

  • A solution for Secure Static Versioning problem in 1.5.0_10

    Hi,
    I have JRE 1.3.1_09 and 1.5.0_10 on my computer and I think I have solved static versioning problem.
    My test computer:
    - Windows XP sp2
    - Internet Explorer 7 (on another computer also IE 6)
    - Firefox 2.0.0.1
    - JRE 1.3.1_09
    - JRE 1.5.0_10
    I. Solution for Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7
    1. Edit registry and add:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Deployment\Policy
    DWORD: EnableSecureStaticVersioning = 0 (Hex)
    2. Restart browser if started.
    3. Start web page with java applet.
    II. Solution for Firefox 2.0.0.1:
    1. Install 1.3 JRE in the same parent directory as 1.5 JRE.
    Because default default installation path for 1.5 JRE is C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10 you need to modify
    1.3 installation path from default C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_09 to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.3.1_09
    After installation check out that "bin" directory is in the following path:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.3.1_09\bin
    2. Install 1.5 JRE in default installation directory: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10.
    After installation check out that "bin" directory is in the following path:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.3.1_09\bin
    3. Restart browser if started.
    4. Start web page with java applet.
    Note: HTML page must use <object> tabs for Internet Explorer or <embed> tabs for any other browser (e.g. Firefox). You need to specify correct classid in object and/or embed tag.
    P.S. If anyone would like to discuss with me send me an e-mail to [email protected], but please post question to forum and just mail me a link to forum. I will write my answer to forum.
    Hope this helps,
    Grofaty

    I have been trying to find a solution for this issue at our organization for over 6 months. Finally, we have a work around to run multiple java versions for newer and aging java apps.

  • Using tag OBJECT on a machine with multiple jre versions

    Dear friends,
    i guess that this question has been already answered, but i can't find the thread with all infos i need.
    So please excuse me if i'm redundant.
    This is my problem:
    i have a web application that runs an applet, embedded in an html page;
    by now the applet is loaded with the standard tag <APPLET>.
    I found many Sun's official pages talking about the use of OBJECT tag to specify the jre version that is supposed to run the applet.
    I tried many ways but i can't reach the way to avoid loading the applet with the latest jre installed on my pc.
    Here is the code of my OBJECT:
    <OBJECT NAME="client" CLASSID="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0009-ABCDEFFEDCBB" HEIGHT="38" WIDTH="335" >
                          <PARAM NAME="NAME" VALUE="client">
                          <PARAM name="type" value="application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.2_09">
                             <PARAM NAME="CODE" VALUE="it.fabio.client">
                             <PARAM NAME="CODEBASE" VALUE="/myapp">
                             <PARAM NAME="ARCHIVE" VALUE="mylib.jar">
                   </OBJECT>The machines where the application is deployed have the 1.4.2_09 and the 1.5.0_03 jre versions, but my applet runs only on 1.4.2_09 version.
    So i have to find a way to tell the browser which jre has to be called.
    Thanks in advance for help.
    Regards

    Wait a second...there is more to that error message that I overlooked before.
    There might be something other than just the way I set the CODE and CODEBASE parameters wrong here
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Yes, you need to compile your source files with JDK 1.3 (since JInit 1.3.x.x uses JDK 1.3).
    Other solution would be to use JRE 1.5 (instead of JInitiator).
    Check out [this thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=550563] on how to use JRE1.5

    Is it because of the JDK Version we are using? What is the JDK/JRE version level supported by Oracle Lite.

    Right
    I got the same problem too.
    When my program and oracle 9i lite is running under JRE1.3.1, everything is ok.
    However, when i migrate the jre to 1.4.x, the program must fail and report DLL exception after closing.

    Hi
    You dont need JInitiator, just downloading and installing either JRE or JDK 1.5 will be enough.
    Another option might be to set the version you want to compile your classes against in JDeveloper. there is a setting in there to specify the java version you want to compile against.
    So are you using the web services from BIP inside Forms?

    Hi,
    I don't know if you got an answer to this problem. It looks like you need to install Borland Service Pack 1 (for BES 6.5) to fix this issue. I spent a couple of days squirming, trying to figure out this issue.
    Hope this helps.
