JS [CS3]. Specify a Default Folder in openDialog()

Is there a way to specify that folder just like we can in selectDialog(prompt, default folder object)???
Otherwise the openDialog shows the last folder accessed by the user. Or can we modify the Window's Environment variable?
Thanks, Alex

By the way, you can also do
var myDefault = new Folder ("U:/xxx/zzz");
var myFiles = myDefault.openDlg(prompt string, filter string+pattern, multi-selection bollean);
Works in CS3. The Filename is left blank since we use a folder as a file... and the parent is the folder.
Alex.

How do I change the Adobe Bridge CS3 default folder?

I still had no way to change Open With Default. MAybe I should just upgrade Bridge.
While CS3 is not the best version of Bridge and the changing upgrade policy of Adobe (until december you can upgrade to CS6 with 3 versions back, after that it is only possible to upgrade with one version back
But I still don't understand what you are looking for, in the subject line it states default folder but you want to have open the files in PSCS3?
While that should indeed be the default but if that is not the case with you what does your system as default application?
In Bridge preferences you have also file type associations that give you the option to set default application to open with per file type.
And on your Mac you can select a file type in the Finder and choose 'get info'. In this window you also can set open with and apply to all.

  • The latest answer from you to me is that my photos are safe and that I should look in a default folder. I have tried to do this but cannot find it.  How do I find the default folder.

I received your emai stating that my photos are safe and are present in the folder on your computer that you specified when importing them. If you used Photoshop Album Starter Edition to import your files from the camera without changing the default folder, look in this folder.  I have tried looking in the default folder and there is nothing there to help. Some of these photos were scanned in from my Cannon Printer.  Surely if Adobe are requesting me to register and telling me they will send me a code no. that is all that needs to be done.

I'm so sorry, but in today's world, the support of low cost products through personal contact has become very uncommon.  It simply does not pay to sell a product for $50 or $100 and then pay people to sit in cubicles to talk on the phone that may cost $50 or $100 an hour.
That said, I'll try to help for free!
CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 are products from the past that, as far as I know are not being updated or maintained.  Adobe has replaced them with the "Creative Cloud" or "CC".  So, if you want a current version of "Premier CC", you "rent" it for $20 a month.  For $50 a month, you can rent everything Adobe makes for photogrphers, videographers, designers and graphic artists.
If "upgrade" means "get a cheaper price", no.
The easiest way to buy the DVD version of Elements 13 is to order it from a major retailer like B&H Photo or Amazon.  I've checked and both have it.   The cheapest way to buy it is to wait for holiday season pricing.

  • I have transfered my library my library to a NAS drive. How do I stop Itunes from creating the default folder on the local drive?

I've transferred my Itunes Media Library to a NAS drive, and pointed Itunes (using the advanced preferences tab) to the relevant folder on the NAS drive. I have done this to free up disk space on a computer I primarily use for work but which I use both at home and at work. The NAS drive is at home. (To clarify, I am not expecting Itunes to function at work, only at home when access to the NAS drive is available).
Under certain circumstances Itunes will start-up at work and when it does it will create the folder structure for the Itunes Media Library in the default location (on the local drive) instead of looking for the location I have specified (the NAS drive) which it should not be able to find when I am at work and telling me that it can't find it (which would be fine).
How do I stop Itunes from recreating the default folder structure and defaulting the file path to the standard media library location on my local drive? Every time this happens I have to re-point Itunes to the NAS drive location, which often requires me to reconsolicate libraries which is tedious and time consuming. It seems that in the process of one of these consolidations I have lost some of the media files. They are still in the library (ie. visible in the Itunes window) but Itunes can't find the media associated with that file - identifying them with an excamation mark "!".
Any help with this would be appreciated, as I have read several forums and threads, and despite trying several different approaches I have been unable to address the problem, which appears to be exacerbated by the laptop being remote from the NAS drive.

Can I put the ".itl" and other database files on the NAS, and if so where would I put them? I'm thinking that if the library file is only available at home then the ITunes library won't get corrupted at work when it can't find the media, in the event that I accidentally start up itunes eg. while opening an attachment or disc that can be read by Itunes.
iTunes will start up and you will have an empty library.
Can I put the ".itl" and other database files on the NAS, and if so where would I put them?
    Yes.
    Quit iTunes.
Copy the /Music/iTunes/ folder on the NAS.
Move the /iTunes media/ folder currently on the NAS into  the /iTunes/ folder you just copied to the NAS.
Hold Option, launch iTunes, select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the NAS.
You can delete /Music/iTunes/ folder on the internal drive.
If you launch iTunes while NOT comnnected to the NAS, iTunes will recreate the /Music/iTunes/ folder and you will have an empty library.
WHen you are again connected to the NAS, just do step 4 above.
Do you know what the advantages and disadvantages are of having the database files like the ".itl" files stored locally versus on the NAS?
Keeping everyhing together inside the iTunes folder makes it "cleaner" and simpler to manage everything.

  • Setting CS3 apps as default over CS4 apps

    Hello,
My company is currently working with CS3 applications. Our vendors use CS4, for this reason, I have a CS4 indesign program installed on my machine. I am having a difficult time setting Indesign CS3 as the default application over the CS4 version.
I have tried the standard "Get Info" solution (pull down menu to change all documents to open Indesign CS3). After selection "Change All" it immediately reverts to "open with application: to CS4. I have tried using the Choose application dialog and checking the "Always open with" option. This does not work either. Indesign CS 4 is somehow set as the default.
Does anyone know how to change the default application itself instead of just changing file types?
    My machine:
    OSX.5.8 dual core intel xeon
CS 3 applications stored on main hard drive applications folder
CS 4 applications store in my user spefic application folder.
Any ideas would be very helpful.
    Thanks!

I recommend you search this forum. This seems to hinge on an old registry key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT not being updated. Something to do with PhotoshopImage.90 or so. Sorry, I wasn't able to dig this up so quickly, but it's at most 2 weeks old, so you're sure to find it. Look for "file associations" or something like that.

In my Outlook, I have mulitple contact folders & calendars but I do not see them all in Synchronization tab where you set the Appointments, Contacts, Task.  Below the Default Folder I see a 2nd choice with my email address, it almost looks like there is more text but the Folder tab can not be made wider.
I'm researching Outlook, and I don't see anything I can set in the properties that makes one calendar different than any other folder.

  • Specify a Saving Folder in Adobe Reader XI

Our customer wants to have a standardized Folder for the Adobe Reader XI to save his Documents in.
For example: If you click "save as" the standard folder that appears is "C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\", but the customer wishes that instead the specified folder "X:\example\example" appears in all cases.

That is actually dictated by Internet Explorer, not the Reader plugin.
However, the default folder also depends on how the document is saved (right-click on a link, then Save target; or Save as from within the Reader plugin).

how do i specify the default mail account if i have more than one accounts?

hmmm.. I've been complaining about this to the engineers for over a year. The storage location should be chooseable as should there also be a backup feature (as in Addressbook and iCal).
for those that want to change this... it would be cool for someone to write a non cryptic, complete 1,2,3 stepped procedure.
That is.. exactly what do you change to what in the mail user preference file? And what do you use to change it.. text edit? "[ ]" heretofor = folder
I would like to change my Mail storage location to the my [Documents] . Using Text Edit, I went into my user [Library], to [Preferences] and opened the com.apple.mail.plist and changed all the ~/Library/mail storage locations to ~/Documents/Mail
lastly I moved the [Mail] that was in the [Library] to my [Documents].
Didn't work. Restarting Mail got me into the guided set a new account (and as far as I can see there IS no way of not taking the guided set up as alledged above). There must be something, some built-in direction other than in the [Preferences] defaulting mail to be saved in the [Library] folder
If someone has done this and been successful.. a 1,2,3.. list would be apprecaited... and please don't leave any details out. Thanks

  • Change Default Folder in Digital Editions?

How do you change the default folder in Digital Editions?

    Hi IceMaiden.
Yes, doing  a "Save As" and specifying a new drive should update the default storage location.
You can also move your project folders from your C drive to your external drive. (Don't change anything in the project folders; just copy the whole folder.)
To open your saved projects from the new location, use the Browse button on the saving screen and then browse to that drive.

  • Specifying destination and folder strudture when restoring

I am moving from PSE 11 on my  old computer to PSE 13 on a new computer. On the old computer I created a catalog backup. Photos are in various folders in c:\users\rrr\pictures. When I restored the catalog in  the new computer with PSE 13 after specifying that the folder structure be retained, it put the photo folders in c:\users\rrr\my pictures\users\rrr\pictures.
This is a pretty cumbersome path. Basically it duplicates the path. What I would like is to have the files restored to c:\users\rrr\pictures, like it was on the old computer. I can't select c: drive as the destination folder to restore. I get a restore message saying "you do not have access to write to the folder you have selected." I can create a top level folder, such as c:\photos, and restore to that. I assume it will include subpaths in that folder to users\rrr\pictures. An improvement, but still lots of excess. Also, I assume the extra files addressed in the next paragraph will be created.
Also created by the restore in c:\users\rrr\my pictures are folders for My Catalog, My Catalog 1 and Other Photos. Other Photos is empty. My Catalog and My Catalog 1 have a number of files apparently created by Adobe. Can I delete these folders and files?
    Thanks.
Adobe could make migration from one computer to another much easier.

Adobe could make migration from one computer to another much easier.
As a matter of fact, that's Microsoft who are the culprits.
To keep things short, Microsoft thought long ago that it was a good idea to show the folder tree with shortcuts for 'documents' and 'images' instead of showing the full path in 'documents and settings'. For most users that's good because the folder tree looks simpler. Some users are puzzled because they can see both ways of showing the folder tree, with or without shortcuts. And they think everything is duplicated...
At that point, Adobe followed the shortcut idea and put the default location for the photo library in the 'My images' default folder.
Then Microsoft changed the default images structure...
That explains you can't get back to the old structure after a restore to the new system.
Being an old user since the beginning of the DOS operating system, I have never followed the suggested 'My images' suggestion and I have always created my own master folder with adequate permissions.
Note that the result of the restore is often to create intermediate subfolders with nothing in them. If you have a structure like C:\A\B\C\D and if there is nothing in B and C, you can move the D folder directly under A with all the subfolders of D. Use the drag and drop method in the 'Folders' panel.

  • When I change the default folder to save downloads in the options menu, it later reverts to the default folder even though I have made not changes in options. Any ideas? thanks!

In the Options menu I changed the default download location (folder) to a folder I have on my desktop and saved the changes. But this option reverts to the default folder when I turn on my computer and open FF the next day.

    Thank you for your response.
I do use CCleaner and just ran it. It did not change the download option folder that I had changed from the default so it appears that this is not cause.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again!

  • Premiere Elements 10 & Elements 10 installed in wrong folder(users) how to move to the default folde

Due to the fact that I misunderstood some of the instructions, my 2 programs are installed in the "users" folder instead of the "applications" folder on my MAC. OS 10.7.4 Is it possible to MOVE/DRAG these applications into the correct default folder(applications)? If so, is there a safe procedure for doing so. I have installed the programs but have not launched them as yet. Any advice would be appreciated.

You should uninstall the software, and then reinstall in the correct folder. Attempts to move the folder will not work, and might mess up the system.

    Hi All,
I am new to robo help. I have a requirement to generate & publish webhelp html files in a different folder than default folder.
Could anyone please tell me the steps to change the folder

You change the generate folder and filename in the first field on the first page of the wizard. It must be a folder on your hard disk.
You change the publish folder in the last page of the wizard. Anywhere you like.

  • How to Change Outlook Default Folder for Insert-Attachment and Save Email/Attachemnt while Outlook is open (VBA)

    Hello,
    Office 2010 32bit, VBA
Is it possible to programmatically do the above while Outlook is running?  If so, I'm hoping to make that change from a Word macro.
I tried tinkering with the reg key and that doesn't work because it appears Outlook only respects it at startup time. Similary changing Word File-options-location of documents is respected only when Outlook starts.
I'm looking to seamlessly keep Outlook's default folder in sync with Word's default folder as the users change working folders in Word, which they do many times per day (and they chose the folder among a couple of thousand possibilities).
I'm hoping there is a difficult-to-find Outlook object I can manipuate to get to the end result.  IF there is such an Object I have been unable to find it.
    Many thanks!
    Julie

    Hi Julie,
Based on my research, I think outlook object model doesn’t provide the way to change the default folder for insert attachment and save email/attachment.
The way to change it is that we need to modify the registry setting and the outlook app should be restart.
    # How to set the default attachment folder in Outlook
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/252732?wa=wsignin1.0
You may create the add-in to custom these actions (e.g. attach attachment, save email)

i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
