JScrollPane freezes when updating JTable in viewport

I have the same problem that is described in this bug:
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4495213.html
I don't understand the workaround. Is that the developer's class (BasicTableUI.java)? Anyone else experiencing this problem? How long does it generally take for these bugs to be fixed?
Thanks.

BasicTableUI is one of the JDK's classes:
javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTableUI
They are suggesting altering the source code for that class and replacing the class in your JVMs standard rt.jar with the modified class.

  • Mail freezes when updating large RSS feed boxes

    This is something I encountered and how I have formulated a work around. I have discovered that Mail will freeze when updating large RSS feed boxes.
    A little history. After discovery RSS and how they work, I began building a collection of feeds. They included feeds from many major news providers. Over the years, the number articles form some of these sources went into the thousands.
    As my database of articles grew, I encountered more severe and more frequent freezes of the application Mail. I began to take the computer off-line in order to work in these files. But inevitably, a situation would arise that would lead to the Mail application freezing.
    Isolation of the issue with Mail and to the RSS boxes within Mail. The freeze would not occur when RSS feeds boxes where collapsed. Also, the freeze only affected the Mail application. Mac OS was not affected and I was able to alway close Mail from with in the Force Quit menu. Also, the Force Quit menu affirmed that Mail was indeed frozen by listing it as also "not responding."
    Work around. To resolve this issue, I first choose to remove the number of RSS feed that I had subscribed to but used very infrequently. Second, I choose to delete old feeds from "never" to "every two weeks" from within the Mail preference menu (RSS sub-menu).
    I think it took a while for Mail to fully delete messages older than two weeks. In fact, when I began deleting whole feeds, it took some time for those feeds to be removed from my mail box tree. Within the Activity Monitor application, I could see that a lot of disk use was occurring, even though the OS was allowing me to continue to use Mail and other applications.
    To assist this process, I took my computer off-line and stepped away from it. Upon my return, the disk use was down to normal, the number of article in many RSS boxes where greatly reduced, and my disk had recovered over a GB of space. Also, Mail seems to be behaving properly, with smooth and quick performance.
    If you found this article, I hope the information provided has been helpful! After a quick search in to previous posts, an entirely similar post was not found. However, others are finding the Mail application will freeze, but not necessary for the same reason.

    Since I don't want to download any attachments from RSS feeds in Mail.app, is there any way to turn off the attachment download once and for all? I also get the beach ball for minutes when an item has a big attachment, and I fear my HD is cluttered with files I don't use.

  • Itouch freezes when updating apps

    Why does my itouch freeze up when updating apps? How do I fix this?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings.iTunes and App store and sign out and sing back in
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • ITunes apps freeze when updating

    Within the last week or so there is an issue with various apps on iTunes where I try to download the updates on my home computer, but just as it gets to "processing file" it freezes. Then I cannot even quit the iTunes program - I have to Force Quit to get out. Any suggestions?

    Go to folder "downloads" in iTunes music folder which is the temporary downloads folder for Tunes itself.
    If there is any item within (as a leftover from a former download), delete it.
    Delay gone.

    1. Quit iTunes (if not possible, then force-quit)
    2. Delete every folder under here...
         ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Downloads (Note: The "~" character, tilde, refers to your Home folder.)
    3. Start iTunes and start your downloads again.

    The correct file path for OSX Mavericks is:
    ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/Downloads/
    In my particular case it happens when updating Apps, and stick in "processing files" steps. Once stuck it needs to be Force QUit to clear it. As to the folder location, that depends on where you havelocated your iTunes data. Your preferences set to open up the iTunes folder. In my case that's, ~/Music/iTunes_xxxxxx/iTunes Media/Downloads
    The "xxxxxx"'s are a date code of the itunes data files installation.
    Regardless where it is located, this deleting of the items in the folder may solve it. Be aware that you may be asked to validate your Apple ID again and verify any age restriceted content. You can monitor the progress of the downloads by click in the little box on the top right of the itunes menu. However in my case it did NOT fix the problem. Updates downloads continue to hang. You can see where downloads create the .tmp files/folders but seem to stick on many items while completing others. No rhyme or reason to it that I can see.

  • Flicker when updating jTable

    I have an application using a jTable. When updating this jTable with a new row there is some annoing flicker - especially if i have many rows in my table.
    Seems like when swing is repainting i have the last marked line twice in the table, both on top an in the bottom. It gives a lot of distraction for the users trying to key in payments.
    My guess is it is happening when swing is repainting the table (it is apparently outside my application). My tablemodel is extending the abstractTableModel.
    Does anybody have any good suggestions to get rid of this???

    Thanks everyone for the feedback.
    I just did a day's worth of testing using C# and .NET for Windows Mobile (in Visual Studio 2005) and was able to reproduce the same interface without any flickering issues. Not having to poll the device's hardware buttons is also a positive
    The key is to override the main form's OnPaintBackground() method.
    From "Crafting Smartphone User Interfaces Using .NET Compact Framework":
    OnPaintBackground
    This method needs to be over ridden to prevent the OS from repainting the background each time the user navigates the ListView, causing flicker. If you don't need a background then just override this method but provide no implementation.
    So it looks like I'll be doing things in C# for this project. As the mobile device won't be used for data acquisition, the Mobile Module isn't a necessity. I just hope .NET's serial functionality is as good as LabVIEW's!

  • Why does my computer freeze when updateing if i have enough disk space and no disk repairs are needed?

    I have problems updating my softwarebecause my computer freezes when it restarts to install. I have enough disk space and I checked for disk repairs and everthing is ok. Still can't update and not my cumputer is taking longer to turn on. There is an earth blinking then i get the apple logo blinking before it turns on and this takes close to 5 minutes.

    When you say, "disk repairs" are you referiring to permissions or verifying the disk because clearly there's a problem.
    Boot from your install disc, run Disk Utilty to "verify" and if necessary repair the startup disk. (Not Verify Disk Permissions).

  • InDesign keeps freezing when updating a paragraph style, a color swatch or moving pages

    I am experiencing a very serious blocking bug. Somehow, when I update certain text styles and click Preview or Update Style Definition, the program goes to 100% CPU (single thread) and never recovers. The same happens when moving certain spreads in the document or updating a color swatch. I suspect a bad font, but I can't change the fonts, because the program freezes when I redefine styles. When I change the color or font manually in the workspace of the document, everything works. Any ideas, Adobe?
    I have tried deleting the SavedData and Preferences, it doesn't have an effect.
    I am using InDesign CC 2014 on Windows 7. I have never experienced such behavior from InDesign before. (I've got a lot of experience with the program since Version CS1)

    I've done what you said. All fonts used are deleted. The problem is persisting. The fonts are from good sources, so I wouldn't expect that. This is specific to InDesign CC2014.

  • Itunes freezes when updating

    every time i try to update songs on my ipod, itunes freezes and i have to restart my computer. i tried reinstalling it, and it didn't help. and all the album artwork is wrong on my ipod. itunes 7.0 ***** really really bad.

    I have been having a similar issue with my iPod since December. Whenever I plug the iPod into my computer to update the songs, it freezes after 20, 30, 40 songs or so. But I think I've discovered the source of the problem, at least in my case, so I thought I'd share it in case it helped anyone else.
    I got an AirClick remote for the iPod for Christmas, which I use in the car. But for the sake of convenience, I've been leaving the receiver plugged in to the top of the iPod instead of removing it when I'm not using it. And ever since, it's been freezing when I update songs, but I never made the connection until yesterday. When I remove the AirClick receiver before docking the iPod to my computer, it updates as many songs as I would like (even thousands at a time) without freezing.
    So if you have any devices plugged in to the top of your iPod, even the headphone remote, I would recommend disconnecting them before connecting the iPod to your computer.
    Hope this helps somebody!

  • JTextPane inside JScrollPane resizing when updated

    Hiya all,
    I've been struggling with this problem and checking the forums, but didn't find a solution, so I hope someone can help...at least help me for the nice picture :) It has to do with JTextPane's automatically resizing to their content on a GUI update, rather than scrollbars appearing (the desired result).
    Basically, I have a scenario where I am creating a series of multiple choice answers for a question. Each answer consists of a JTextPane inside a JScrollPane, and a JRadioButton, which are all contained in a JPanel (called singleAnswerPanel). So for 2 answers, I would have 2 of these singleAnswerPanels. There is a one large JPanel that contains all the singleAnswerPanels (called allAnswersPanel). This allAnswersPanel is contained in a JScrollPane. Graphically, this looks like:
       |       JPanel (allAnswersPanel) inside a JScrollPane            |
       |                                                                |
       |  ------------------------------------------------------------  |
       | |     JPanel (singleAnswerPanel)                             | |
       | |    ----------------------------------                      | |
       | |   |  JTextPane inside a JScrollPane  |     * JRadioButton  | |
       | |    ----------------------------------                      | |
       | |                                                            | |
       |  ------------------------------------------------------------  |
       |                                                                |
       |                                                                |
       |  ------------------------------------------------------------  |
       | |     JPanel (singleAnswerPanel)                             | |
       | |    ----------------------------------                      | |
       | |   |  JTextPane inside a JScrollPane  |     * JRadioButton  | |
       | |    ----------------------------------                      | |
       | |                                                            | |
       |  ------------------------------------------------------------  |
       |                                                                |
        ----------------------------------------------------------------So above, I show 2 answers that can be filled in with text. So assuming both answer JTextPanes are filled with text beyond their current border (scrollbars appear as expected) and the user wishes to add more answers. I have a button to add another singleAnswerPanel to the containing JPanel (allAnswersPanel), and then I validate the main JScrollPane that contains the allAnswersPanel as it's view. The problem that occurs is the existing single answer JTextPanes resize to the size of their text and the vertical scrollbars (only vertical ones setup) of the JTextPanes dissappear! My intent is to keep the existing JScrollPanes the same size (with their scrollbars) when a new answer is added.
    The code snippet below shows what gets done when a new answer is added:
    private void createAnswer()
        // The panel that will hold the new single answer JTextPane pane
        // (inside a JScrollPane) and radio button.
        JPanel singleAnswerPanel = new JPanel();
        // Create the text pane for the single answer.
        JTextPane singleAnswerTextPane = new JTextPane();
        Dimension dimensions = new Dimension(200, 30);
        singleAnswerTextPane.setPreferredSize(dimensions);
        singleAnswerTextPane.setMaximumSize(dimensions);
        // Create a scroll pane and add the single answer text pane.
        JScrollPane singleAnswerScrollPane =
         new JScrollPane(singleAnswerTextPane);
        // Create a radio button that is associated with the single
        // answer text pane above.
        JRadioButton singleAnswerRadioButton = new JRadioButton();
        // Add the scroll pane and radio button to the panel (for a single
        // answer).
        singleAnswerPanel.add(singleAnswerScrollPane);
        singleAnswerPanel.add(singleAnswerRadioButton);
        // Add the panel holding a single answer to the panel holding
        // all the answers.
        m_allAnswersPanel.add(singleAnswerPanel);
        // Update the display.  m_allAnswersScrollPane is a JScrollPane
        // that has the m_allAnswersPanel (JPanel) as its view.
        m_allAnswersScrollPane.validate();
    }     Sorry for the length of the message, but I really want to solve this problem. So again, when updating the JScrollPane with validate(), the JTextPane for a single answer resizes to it's contents (plain text currently) and loses it's vertical scrollbars, but I want it to stay the same size and maintain the scrollbars.
    Thanks!

  • IPod freezing when updating music/copying files

    In the past few months I bought a new Mac Mini. When transferring files from my Mac at work and my roommate's PC at home, using the disk use option on my iPod, it would start to copy the files and stop part of the way through and freeze. There's no way to stop it once it freezes and I end up having to restart my computer. I have tried resetting the iPod to factory settings and reinstalling all my music. I'm using the latest iPod software and running iTunes 6.0.1. When it updates my songs, it does the same thing where it may get about 1000 songs in and then it locks up. When I restart the machine, it has to start from the beginning. The only way around this problem I found was to stop it every couple hundred songs and restart the update. It still freezes when using disk use if the files are big enough. Has anyone else run into this problem? Does it require servicing or is there something I should be doing?
    Thanks!!!

    I have been having a similar issue with my iPod since December. Whenever I plug the iPod into my computer to update the songs, it freezes after 20, 30, 40 songs or so. • Airport extreme freezes when updating MAC access list on WiFi. What can I do ?

    Trying to add a new PC on the WiFi network, the control is via MAC addresses. I can enter the new MAC address, and description, but airport freezes when I try to update. The only way I can get back is unplug / replug airport, but then it is not updated with the new address.
    Macpro on 10.7
    Airport extreme 802.11n 1st gen (7.5.2 with airport utility 5.5.3)
    Thanks

    If you have not already done so, try temporarily connecting an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme. Then open AirPort Utility, make the changes you need and see if the AirPort Extreme will Update correctly. If it does, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable.
    If still no luck, your next option is to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Exreme to clear out all the current settings and then reconfigure the device again.

  • Computer freeze when updating from OS 9.2 to 10.2

    Hi,
    I have a grey/blue ibook 366Mhz purchased the summer of 2000. I'm trying to update to OS 10.2. So far, I've updated from 9.06 to 9.2.1 to 9.2.2 (the required sequence), updated the firmware to 4.1.7, and installed third party RAM. I bought the install discs (10.2)from ebay. They are white colored and should work, according to the help files, although the seller did not send me the third "tools" disk.
    When I try to install 10.2, the computer freezes at startup. A grey screen with the apple logo appears, and then the screen freezes and splits.
    The point of this upgrade is to use our Verizon internet service, which requires OS X. If there's a way around that requirement, it would be just as good.
    Does this sound familiar to anyone. Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Andrew

    Andrew:
    You apparently have an Upgrade Version, which requires that you have the previous version installed on the HDD. What you need is the Full Retail Version. Check the picture of the disks posted by ali brown by clicking here However, instead of upgrading to Jaguar, since you have to purchase new install disks anyway, I suggest that you consider upgrading to Panther, which is a lot more powerful and stable OS. Your computer will easily support Panther if it meets that other the minimum system requirements for Panther.
    Panther is no longer available directly from Apple, but you can find the Full Retail Version of Panther, if you shop carefully, at online outlets like FastMac; HardcoreMac, AllMac etc. If you know what you are looking for, read all documentation carefully and ask questions of the seller, you may be able to get
    Panther on eBay.
    I will probably contact the ebay seller, since he gave the impression that he was selling the full retail version.
    I definitely think you should do so.
    Please do post back with further questions or comments.
    Cheers

  • ITunes freeze when updating podcasts

    I am subscribed to 4 podcasts on my itunes client, however, when one of the four updates, it stops almost instantly and itunes freezes up. I have tried reinstalling/repairing itunes with no luck. Any suggestions?

    I have the same problem. It started when I was running out of disk space, so I removed a number of my subscriptions and their related podcasts. I now have about 5GBs free out of 40GB drive and 512 RAM on a Sony Vaio. I was going to attempt to eliminate one podcast at a time to see which one might be causing the problem, but I can't stop the automatic updates before it locks up. The reason it locks up I believe is that it ***** up every bit of memory and CPU time I have. It didn't do that when I had a lot more subscriptions, so I don't think that's the problem. The only extraneous thing I've done is load REAL player. Anyone know the name of the settings file that I could either delete or edit manually to stop it from autoupdates until I find the problem?
