JSF design disabled

Hi there,
I am facing a strange issue: I did import the ADF Faces in JDev, checked the boxes to get the components in the visual editor, and then the JSF design was no longer working (JSF components are rendered as regular JSTL objects). So I removed the ADF Faces library but nothing changed.
I don't think I did something wrong, it is so simple ;-) Any idea?
Thanks,
Fabrice.
PS: I am running JDev EA1 3412 on MacOSX.

  • JD12 JSF designer does not redraw

    I am having many issues in JD12 JSF designer.
    One is that when I for example select a navigation button's spacer and change it's Width property, the space between buttons does not change until file is closed and re-opened. Is that expected behaviour? Dropping an operation onto the navigation button is very tricky as well. Even when selected is 'Panel group layout', sometimes a rebinding window comes up. The space where a button has to be dropped is so narrow and volatile, that dropping a button becomes a torture that I have to repeat 2-3 times before it actually drops exactly one button (and does not rebind or drop 3 copies of it).
    Another is that when I am changing table column Sortable and Filterable properties, they take 2 times to change the selected values from default to true or vice versa. The green dot does appear in front of property name, but drop down reverts to default (or previous value whatever it was). Suppose I changed Sortable from default to true - it did not change. Then I am changing Filterable in the sam manner and it does not redraw, but Sortable now does. Then I have to change sortable to the same new value again and Filterable now changes. Very annoying. Is there a fix?
    Selecting the controls is bugged as well.  Suppose I selected a table column and changed its Row header property to true, then went on to change another one. When I click another column, it does not select, but a baloon pops up which contains a binding for that column. To close it I have to click elsewhere and re-click the column again. Why is that happening?
    Suppose I dropped a panel border layout onto a facet. Undoing that does not visually remove the border layout from a form. Only closing a file and re-opening will re-draw. Similarly, I am adding a navigation button from Operations, but the buttons do not re-draw to show that a new button was added. Same as previous, only closing/re-opening a file shows a new button. Royal PITA. Is there a fix?
    Suppose I am changing initial size of a table. The number by the right corner changes showing the new size, but after the bottom border is released, the size does not re-draw. Only closing and re-opening a file shows the new size.
    Resizing table columns is painful. When a column is shrinking, the columns to the right of it do not move accordingly - they stay put and the width of the very next column is increasing. Thus it is absolutely impossible to arrange the columns that are beyond visible width of the table. When the column is growing, the columns to the right of it behave erratically - often they suddenly increase their width and disappear beyond the right table border. This is simply infuriating.
    The last is that if the data controls dropped onto the page contain columns from more than one table, then resulting application will throw runtime exceptions (null pointer). But if I deleted all columns but that very object's own columns, and dropped it onto the page, then it will work. After that I can add any columns from that object and it will work fine. The Create Table wizard clearly creates defective code.
    I am running JDEVADF_12.1.2.0.0_GENERIC_130608.2330.6668 under Windows 7 32bit. Are these issues fixed in a more recent build or going to be fixed soon?

    You are not understanding the term 'narrow space' I've used. It does not equal 'width of spacer between the buttons. It equals the area of display monitor where an orange drop indicator appears that supports dropping a new button in between the existing ones. I.e. where JD12 is allowing me to drop a new operation without rebinding the existing buttons.
    The JDK version is the one that JD12 itself installed - 1.7.0_15. As that's the JDK that was shipped with JD12, I contend it has to be sufficient.
    There is no Mcaffee on this machine. They are using Symantec AV. There is about 300-500 MB free RAM when these issues are occurring and CPU load is about 0%.
    Another issue I just noticed is that javadocs are not loading. Doc Path for JDK 1.7.0_15 that came with JD12 is set to http://docs.oracle.com/javase7docs/api/ and there is no doc under the folder where JD installed its JDK. I don't know how to fish docs for an older JDK out of Oracle web site.
    As you contend that it is my system that is a root cause, I looked up the system requirements for JD12 and found that my system exceeds them.

  • Painting with JSF Designer

    The JSF Designer seems to continually hang when opening in Design mode (becomes completely unresponsive). No errors are reported, and JDeveloper just quits responding. I am using a custom view-handler in my application which works fine at run time.
    Is this a known issue? Is there a way to make the JSF pages open in Source view instead of design view by default? This may be enough of a work around for now.

    Bobby,
    I've had no issues whatsoever with the JSF Design view. However, you can set it to use the source view by default. In Tools -> Preferences, select the "File Types" node on the left, then click the "Default Editors" tab. You can then change the default editor for JSP Source file type
    Hope this helps,
    John

  • Is JSF designed on Page Controller or Front Controoler?

    Hi All,
    Is JSF designed and developed based on front controller design pattern or page controller design pattern?
    No Links please. I have already checked most of the links and have some confusions after reading those articles.
    Thanks
    Sudhakar

    I hate to do this to you but check this link for the debate: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/struts-user/200603.mbox/%[email protected]%3E
    There is no doubt that JSF uses the Front Controller design pattern, but gives you "page controller" funcationality to.

  • JSF design view - visual components are shrinking

    Hello,
    I have some strange issue while using Design view for JSF and data binding.
    Once I drop any data control elements into visual component (panel, etc) my visual components are shrinking to such size, that I cannot distinguish any elements within design view. I cannot use design view since then and have to place all elements base on structure panel.
    How to reproduce:
    1. Create new JSF page with wizard and accept defaults.
    2. Drop one of the panels (panel box, panel group layout) into JSF layout
    At this stage my visual elements occupy 100% of design view screen and represent anticipated outcome
    3. Drag and drop one of the data control elements (data control panel) into created panels on JSF and create table or form
    Immediately after it visual panel where data control was dropped shrinks to approximately 1/4 of the screen and I cannot see neither available space nor created table for my data components.
    I figured out, that if I remove created by wizard default <af:messages> tag from the top of my JSF, then design view representation fixes. Not sure if I should remove <af:messages> from all my pages.
    Above all looks to me as and bug.
    Environment:
    -Jdeveloper 11g
    -Windows Vista 64b
    -Not bundled JDK 6

    Hi Shay,
    Thank you for response.
    1. I tried to play with screen size without result
    2. I checked your video post, but this does not resolve my issue
    3. This issue occures with all JSF pages and can be reproduced even when following official Oracle step by step tutorials.
    4. I figured out, that removing <af:messages> tag resolves the issue ?! It seems this tag is added by default during drag and drop binding.
    5. On this link http://drop.io/jdev_001 you can see how design view is changes with and without <af:messages> tag
    6. Below is code example from one of the tutorials, that leads to shrinking as well:
    7. Once app is deployed and running page get normal view in IE as expected, so it seems to me, it is issue with Jdev design view, probably influenced by my environment, if nobody reported it before.
    Thank you for your help.

  • JSF Design Time View Not working correctly for ADF/JSF components

    My project is not using any external tag libraries. It is based purely on ADF core/html and JSF core/html components. The design time view does not show the appropriate presentation, everything is shown as nexted frame containers (I suppose how you would show a component that does not have a visual representation).
    If I create a new project and copy my jsp (jsf) pages over they show perfectly. I did this activity and all was going well in the new project and then I lost the design time view again. I cannot tell you what I did to cause the issue, maybe it was a modification to the web.xml as has been suggested in some other threads. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for that causes this problem, what corrective actions I might take to eliminate the issues

    Ok I have isolated this issue. In my phase listener I had this line of code:
    private static final Logger _logger =  Logger.getLogger(EigRequest.class.getPackage().getName());
    and I changed it to
    private static final Logger _logger =
    Logger.getLogger(EigRequest.class.getName());
    and design mode started to work. I guess either of the above works for me although I do not understand why the line works when you run the application but not in design mode.
    Moral to the story is if something fails in any one of these types of decorators you will drop into a raw view mode. The question I have is if errors are occuring how do I figure out where they may be. There is no indication that anything is wrong with the exception that you lose most of the design mode functionality.
    This was not a compile issue, this was not a runtime issue. It took me quite a few hours of writing a test program to validate that it was not just writing a phase-listener issue; then launching, editing, relaunching the application to find the problem. I will say that a good portion of the code came from a Eclipse project. If you add the offending lines of code while using JDeveloper you do not loose design mode immediately. You only see the problem the next time you start JDeveloper which complicates finding the problem.

  • Insert/Delete a page in LiveCycle Designer disabled

    I am working with an 8 page form and am trying to delete the last page on the file, however when I try the 'Delete Page' option is disabled or 'greyed out'. I am using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.05.2... and created the form in LiveCycle. It also won't give me the option to insert a page (also a form created in livecycle designer). Anyone have any ideas or seen this problem before? I am going through everything trying to figure out what the issue is.
    Thanks in advance.

    Can you post your form so it can be looked at?
    You can upload it to acrobat.com using these steps:
    1) goto acrobat.com website
    2) login with your Adobe login/password.
    3) In Actions you will find Upload. Select your form and upload.
    4) After uploading, select form name in All Files section and right click and select share.
    5) Check the checkbox "Allow anyone with a link to view this document".
    6) Copy the URL link and post it in the forum.

  • JSF Design view broken, showing tags as blocks instead of preview

    I'm using jDev Build JDEVADF_11.1.2.3.0_GENERIC_120914.0223.6276.1
    but this has happened to me several times before with previous versions of jDev.
    All of the sudden after restarting jDev the design view for all my jsf pages look broken, showing only tag blocks, and not the design view it was showing previously. Why is this? what happened?
    The only fix I found on this forum was to remove the system directory (should be somewhere like: C:\Documents and Settings\yourUser\Application Data\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.3.37.56.60 ) and let jDev create a new one. But then I have to reconfigure everything again, which can be frustrating.
    Can anyone explain what's going on here, and if there's a better way to fix my jDev when this happens?

  • JSF Design View broken? Fallback Rendering, "Render Kit" not found

    Hi,
    I just wanted to toy around with JDeveloper 11g TP3, created a new project, added technology scope JSF (+ JSP/Servlets, etc.) then the tag-library ADF Faces Component 11-ji3.
    Then I created a data control from a POJO and wanted to visualize this within a JSF page. So I created one (via faces-config visual editor), dragged the appropriate getter-method to the page in the up-to-this-point working WYSIWYG editor, selected ADF-read-only-form and suddenly found myself in the JSF "alternate rendering" (a view like in an hierachical XML editor). I enabled "design time messages in log" to see what the problem was.
    Stopping/Starting JDeveloper or removing tag libraries like suggested in other threads did not work. I was unable to reactivate the wysiwyg editor for this page or any new JSF page in this application, always the "alternate rendering".
    Log said "oracle.sql.OraData" was missing, so I added ojdbc6.jar to the project classpath. Didn't help, no wysiwyg editor, log now says:

    I have this error even for newly created (ie blank/HelloWorld) JSF pages in my application. I started adding some libraries, but nothing helped. How do I reactivate the wysiwyg editor?
    Thanks!

    Frank,
    thanks for the reply. I will try what you suggested, but the trinidad-config.xml is actually not missing in my project, although it does not include a render kit definition.
    As my first step with 11g I also tried one of the tutorials (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/ejb/ejb.html) and there the wysiwyg was working nicely the whole time.
    In both cases (my project == not working wysiwyg editor, tutorial == nicely working wysiwyg editor) the content of the trinidad-config.xml is the same:
    --- trinidad-config.xml ---
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
    <trinidad-config xmlns="http://myfaces.apache.org/trinidad/config">
    <skin-family>blafplus-rich</skin-family>
    </trinidad-config>
    --- end-of-file ---

  • JDev 10.0.3.2 - JSF Design View

    in jdeveloper 10.0.3.2 the jsp design view does not work anymore for myfaces and trinidad JSF components.
    it works in jdeveloper 10.0.3.1 with the exception of tomahawk components that rely on the myfaces extension filter.
    after some investigation it turned out that the design time container seems to be tied with ADF faces, event if they are not used in the project (see jdeveloper stacktrace below).
    so i tried the J2EE edition 10.0.3.2 with does not contain ADF at all and the design view works fine with this edtion.
    has anyone similar experiences?- maybe someone from jdeveloper dev team can take a look at this.
    thanks
    robert

    Hi Timo, thanks for the quick reply!
    I'm trying to do this for a few EO/VO pairs so I'll give a generic example.
    I have an EO made up of the following fields (id, accessstring) and a corresponding VO with (id, accessstring, descr) fields. The descr field is the transient attribute. I'd like to set the accessstring value to the descr value.
    What I tried, and forgive the simplicity of my first shot, was the following override in the VOImpl class:
    public void postChanges(TransactionEvent transactionEvent) {
    Row currentRow = getCurrentRow();
    if( currentRow != null ){
    currentRow.setAttribute("accessstring",currentRow.getAttribute("descr"));
    super.postChanges(transactionEvent);
    This works, but executes far too often and I get the JBO error from the original post. I'm not aware of anything at the VOImpl level to test state like I could if I were at the EOImpl level (e.g. the prepareforDML method). So either I'm going about this completely the wrong way or there's something I'm missing in the postChanges to have this code execute less often.

  • JSF Design support for custom controls

    I am creating some custom JSF components, for use in my projects. They work fine, but I was not able to make them display correctly in design time (I am using Websphere).They appear like small rectangles, even when they are grids. What is the standard way to provide design time support to my controls? Or al least a way to show them properly in Websphere designer? There must be some way to make it work, because standard components and IBM components are displayed correctly.
    Some hint?

    At the moment, the best you can do is fill out all the metadata in faces-config.xml for your component and renderer. Beyond that, each tool developer is currently defining proprietary XML metadata and/or programmatic extensions to provide better tool support. This is, of course, an awful state of affairs, and there are the beginning of efforts today to work towards common metadata and extensions for component developers.

  • JSF Designs not usign Oracles BLAF

    Hi All,
    I have been searching high and low for some answers on how to create complex layouts that do NOT necessarily fit into the Oracle BLAF.
    If I could give an example say http://www.yahoo.com
    Lets say that I wanted to create a page that had the same layout as this site ignoring the content I only want the boxes that the content would fit into.
    I have tried several times to do this with the various panel components and get close but there is always something that does not quite work.
    If have tried using the panelBorder wich from what I can see renders a ton of tables which would be fine but most of the time the tables ignore the styles that I have specified in the styleClass attribute.
    I have tried using panelGroup, panelHorizontal, panelPage.......
    I guess what I am asking for is some help on page design. I have looked at all the oracle design guides\tutorials and none of them really cover anything outside the BLAF. Can anyone give a decent explanation of which controls one would use to create the Yahoo layout? I can do this in .NET HTML\CSS in about 10 minutes and I cannot beleive that it is impossible to do in the Java world. Please help I am loosing faith.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    ... also keep in mind that HTML/CSS is a different technique than JSF, which similar to Swing uses layout containers. The benefit you gain through component based development of course has its flip side in that layout manipulation is a bit more complex than applying CSS to HTML fragments.

  • JDev 11g JSF design view problem

    Hi everyone
    I have a problem with JDev 11g
    whenever I'm trying to edit a jsf page the design view only shows the tag names like the image below
    [http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg134/241/9511g.png]
    this is only happens when editing jsf pages and everything is ok while editing jsp
    so why is this happening and how to fix it?
    thanks

    Thanks for the link Shay Shmeltzer.
    but unfortunately that didn't help much
    i tried running jdev.exe with the console open and also enabled "Show Design Time Messages in Log" but i didn't get any error message
    also tried adding different libraries to project but the design view still doesn't render the tags.
    any other solution?

  • JSF Design question

    I have a question about how to structure managed beans for a JSP.
    The nature of the managed bean being the View Helper for a page leads to our beans being enormous and having a ton of listener logic, action event logic, as well as normal getters and setters for the data it maintains.
    Therefore, we would like to divide this code out into logical classes so that say we have a basic structure as follows:
    UserDetailBean (main managed bean defined in faces-config)
    UserDetailListeners (action events and value change listeners for the bean - it is instantiated using an instance of UserDetailBean)
    This seems to help knock down the amount of logic in a backing bean, but I feel like it violates what JSF is trying to accomplish over Struts Forms and Action classes and I feel like we are just using a bastardized version of Struts this way.
    Has anyone else implemented anything like this? Is this a common pattern to use?

    Do you find though that your managed-beans and subsequently this nested bean are inordinately large in terms of lines of code? For more complex pages, ours can get unwieldy. Even with some that aren't as complex, if they have say 5 dropdown lists and 4 buttons, the bean can get enormous maintaining all that data.
