JSF in WSAD 5.1.1

I am new to JSF and trying to integrate in my enterprise application. For my webproject I have my WebContent folder named as webApplication. I guess this is causing a problem for letting me create a Faces JSP file. Is there a solution to this. Please let me know

You should be avare that JSF implementation used in WSAD 5.1.1 is early access version and
you should NOT do any REAL work with that. It is just for playing around. If runnin the code someday
in a servletcontainer outside WSAD is a concern, you should go for the latest version 5.1.2.

Hello.
I'm exploring using JSF on a new project at work Looks good so far. Picked up the Java Server Faces in Action book. Just started it.
We use WSAD 5.1.2 When building JSP/JSF pages using the IDE, it puts all kinds of stuff in the jsp files that I'm not sure of. (scriptCollector, etc). Examples in the book look much cleaner.
So, question is...do you experienced users bother to use the IDE to create the pages, or just roll them by hand? If you roll them on your own, any issues with IBM compatability?
Any experiences would be appreciated.

We have experienced some problems with Websphere 6, we tried for 3 weeks and moved back to 5.1.2
Problem like, websphere server behaving inconsistency and managed bean facility not working consistently, what we felt is it needs some time and testing still to be used.
May be you guys can report some bugs and it will fine to use in next 4-6 months.

JSF and WSAD - basic question...

I'm working with WebSpher Application Developper 5.0, I don't succeed in creating a LifecycleFactory instance in the ServletContextListener. I have a FacesException error.
In the following code (which is very common i know...), the getFactory method raises a FacesException error :
LifecycleFactory factory = (LifecycleFactory)
FactoryFinder.getFactory(FactoryFinder.LIFECYCLE_FACTORY);
It works when i use Catalina (which was provided with the examples), do you think it may come from Websphere or is there something i should configure ?

certain that all the required jars, jsf-ri.jar, jsf-api.jar,

Working with WSAD 5.1.1 and JSF 1.0

Hi,
am new to JSF and am trying to put up a sample application with JSF and WSAD and Websphere 5.1 together.
When I create a Faces enabled JSP , and write
<f:loadBundles.....>, it simply states -
Cannot find this tag under <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h" %>
<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f" %>
I have imported the above two taglibs.
Also, hv put jsf-impl.jar and jsf-api.jar along with commons* -.jar in the project classpath in WSAD.
Wht could be the problem? plz help.

a.zip;C:\SQLLIB\bin\db2jdbc.dllI don't know where you're defining java.library.path (it's not an OS environment variable, in case that's what you're trying). But don't you notice the other entries just point to directories that contain dll files in them, and does not specifically add individual .dll files? You're likely only supposed to add "C:\SQLLIB\bin" to it, not a specific .dll file (which it would treat as a directory name, which directory does not exist).

Error message when trying to excute jsf examples or my own code

Hi, Any help would be deeply appreciated. I am trying to run code I've written to test jsf on WSAD and am getting the following runtime error when I deploy to the test environment. I get this error message even when I try to run the examples supplied with the EA3 version of JSF (when I import the source into my java source folder and compile (rather than using the precompiled imported classes).

I also received a message like you. In my case I forgot to redirect the
user to a address which contains /faces/ part. Like that

Also You have to check your web.xml file. These lines have to be there.

JSF IBM (RAD) Components examples

Hello I am using RAD/Websphere for my JSF development and was wondering if there are any sample (examples) demonstrating the IBM-JSF tag capabilities (for eg say example code using hx:inputHelperDatePicker ) .
MyFaces has some excellent examples for its Tomahawck jar which are easy to understand does IBM JSF have something very similar to that .

There is no technical API documentation freely available. "Officially" you should do some (expensive) IBM-courses to learn about using IBM-JSF in WSAD/RAD. Then you will get some documentation. Blame IBM ;)

I suggest you to play somewhat with that WYSIWYG JSF editor of RAD/WSAD and meanwhile check the generated JSF code and backing bean code (the so-called pagecode). Read the code, learn from it and try manually rebuild the code without using that WYSIWYG stuff.

IBM's WSAD 5.1.1 now shipping with beta JSF IDE

I'm installing WSAD 5.1.1 right now, and am reading the release notes. It ships with a beta version of "JavaServer Faces Tooling." The release notes discuss its limitations briefly, but I haven't seen anything outlining it's capabilities. I suspect this is an IBM implementation of Faces...anyone out there know more about this?
I'm very curious to take it for a test drive. IBM seems to have been much more quiet about their IDE plans for JSF, unlike Sun and Oracle. I know they've been working on it for quite a while now.
I suspect it wouldn't be wise to build anything serious with this at this point. With Faces at EA4 still, there's undoubtedly substantial changes in store for the spec before it goes final.
Has anybody had a chance to give this a try?
Incidently, WSAD 5.1.1 also includes the WebSphere 5.1 test environment.
Btw, I apologize for not posting links to info on it. I haven't seen anything on their website about 5.1.1 at all. It was just released today, so they must be a little behind on their website.

JSF page as error-page location (WSAD 5.1)

I know that in the Core Java Server Faces book, there is an example of how to do this. They do it with f:subview with a note that the RI is buggy and f:view does not work.
In WSAD 5.1, neither subview or view works. Is anybody doing this with WSAD 5.1?
My current workaround is to have a servlet as the location, the servlet then forwards to the faces page, but this is less than ideal.

WSAD 5.1.2 / Tabs in JSF / handling changes to face components in Tab or Pa

Hi,
We have page design where we have tabs and we are using WSAD 5.1.2 as our tools and for tabs we are using the
<odc:tabbedPanel> and <odc:bfPanel>
My question is that, is there a way good way to know if something has changed in the whole tab.
so that I will know where to save the information in that Tab or ignore, if user haven�t done anything in that Tab.
I there a some thing we can do with panelGrid like that, is there a way to know if any of the face component values have been changed?
Please throw you valuable suggestions on this.

Issue in converting Struts view to JSF view using struts-faces integration

Hi All,
I am facing a issue in my Sruts to JSF conversion application using struts-faces.jar integration library.
Need expert's help desperately as I am not able to use <s:form> tag in my new jsf page to call a struts action.
I want to call a struts action from my web page designed using JSF,
but it seems impossible without using <s:form> tag from struts-faces integration library.
Please suggest how to resolve this...

I have configured a controller element in struts-config.xml file as has been suggested by different online
documents I studied:

But configuring a controller does not allow my test server to start up properly and due to errors the ActionServlet also becomes unavailable.
If I comment the controller and start the test server it starts fine but then I cannot access the converted jsf page which contains the <s:form action="/xxxxx.do"> tag.
If now I get back to <h:form> tag instead of <s:form> tag with a <h:commandButton action="xxxx.do"/> for form submission in my jsf page, I see the html page generated with all components but now checking the html source generated I see
<form action="/contextName/jspFolder/sameDisplayedPage.jsf"> which is not valid and never gets called successfully.
I think someways I need to use the <s:form> tag with the controller configured properly to use the struts-faces integration library's request processor, to get things working. But HOW???

I see the webpage coming up in the browser (no controller element used in struts-config.xml file this time)
But in the html source of this html created from jsf I see

here form's action attribute is pointing to the same displayed page with the context name prefixed. I
assume it is because jsf could not resolve the "xxxx.do" action to anything so set it to the same displayed page.

Basically you just have to fiddle around with Library settings to get this working OK.
As to how useful this is, well that's up to you - I'd not regard Faces + Struts as a must use combination, rather it's a can mix if you really need to. Look at Faces and Faces navigation first and see if that actually gives you enough before you start to look at mixing.

Problem using javascript to submit jsf form, values not submitted

I have a t:selectOneMenu where I want the page to be submitted when they change the selected value. At this point, I am able to get the form to submit and reload the page, which is all fine. The problem is that none of the values from the page are not set in the backing bean. I have break points on the setter methods that are not being hit.
I have tried a number of things from searching multiple forums, but here are snippets from my latest version...

Can anyone come up with an explanation for this behavior? Or better yet, a solution?
A couple other things I've tried...
- Not using a commandLink and using jsf's submit function -> onchange="jspellSync(); submit();"
- Clicking the link using other ways -> hiddenLink.fireEvent('onclick');
If all else fails, I'll just add a button that they have to click to submit the form.

Problems with JSF&Tiles (displaying twice one inserted page in tiles)

</HTML>The problem is when I run application on server and go to index.jsp the resulting page is containing two times menu.jsp, instead once menu.jsp and once content.jsp.
Also when you click on buttons in "second" menu.jsp it's like it was clicked on the "first and the original one". When you click navigation rules do apply.
Can anyone help on this?

I haven't solved problem yet but so far I realised this:
- the problem is that both menu.jsp and content.jsp have forms, with tags: <h:form formName="form1" id="form1">.
I've tried renaming form and id, but it didn't worked, alo tried changing scope of managed beans for the two inserted jsp pages - still nothing.
- also if the content.jsp is not containing form but other JSF components like Image or Hyperlink, that components are not being shown/rendered.

... I as well am having the same problem after upgrading from JSF 1.0 to 1.1 on WSAD 5.1. Everything was working fine under JSF 1.0. I recall having similar difficulties when fist getting 1.0 to work, but I can't remeber what it was. I seem to remember something about the faces-config.xml file.
