Jsp and Code Behind

Is it possible to create a Jsp Page the Same way that an aspx (asp.net) Page is created.
With your basic design I.E. your html and controls in one file and then your class that extneds System.Web.UI.Page which is in you code behind file ??
if so Are there examples of this ??

Jsf is somewhat comparable to the asp.net controls yet I was asking if there is a way to do codebehind like asp.net pages.
the reason for this :;
I am converting from asp.net to jsp and want to move with the least pain.

Consistent calling of actions from JSP and code

I have a question about opening up a JSP with a particular parameter (to set what we're looking at, for example).
If I want to do it from a JSP, I can do something like this

</af:commandLink>
That follows the listed action, and sets #{param.id} to be the necessary value.
If I want my action to be dynamic (using code from a bean), I can do this:
JSFUtils.setRequestAttribute("id", scientistId);
return "editScientist";
(where JSFUtils is a class from various official tutorials).
However, that sets #{requestScope.id} instead of #{param.id}. Is there a way of making these two calls consistent (for example, set the param.id from within the bean)?

I have worked out one way to do this. I use this in the parameters section:
<parameter id="sciId" value="${param.id == null ? requestScope.id : param.id}"/>
And then I can reference bindings.sciId. Seems to work.

Flex 3 vs Flex 4 Preprocessor directives and code behind (External Actionscript file)

I have a framework that I've built that I want to use on Flex3 and Flex4.
I've added pre-processor directives as per this link (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=compilers_21.html) and got my Flex 4 code to compile nicely.
I then went to flex 3 and discovered my sub-class of Application wouldn't compile because it was based off of spark. No problem, I'll add in a directive.
Except now my overridden class has duplicate code, specific to which SDK it is using.
No problem, I'll put all of the application class code in an Actionscript file and include it in both Application class declarations for each directive.
It works nicely in Flex 3, so I went to Flex 4, tried to compile and now I'm getting compiler errors saying things such as "The (private|public|protected) attribute may only be used on class property definitions." and "The (private|public|protected) attribute can only be used inside a package.
This same file works in Flex 3, but not in Flex 4.
What can I do to make the code compile in both places?
I'll work on a simple case so I can upload some code.

Nevermind.
I got around this issue by renaming my sub-classed Application to "...Application".
Now I can use a directive to specify an import statement for the extends Application portion rather than specifiing the fully qualified spark.components.Application or mx.core.Application.
Lame - but done.

SQL Server 2008 Reporting Project - Invoke/Consume Web Service and Return Dataset in C# Code-Behind

Hello,
I have a Visual Studio 2010 C# class with a method that invokes/consumes a web service and returns an XML dataset. I am traversing through the parent/child nodes and parsing out the data then inserting it into a SQL Server 2008 R2 table for a join within
another stored procedure.
Instead of using a 3rd party API to generate the PDF for this data, I am creating an SSRS report. The formatting will be easier and I can do a RenderFormat directly to PDF.
Can I expect to be able to transfer the code-behind method to this report and have it be able to work with the web service the same way? It is a SOAP-based web service returning parent nodes and two levels of nested child nodes.
I have also been researching the approach of calling the web service in the same stored procedure that is currently querying the physical tables (which is used to populate a gridview and PDF) but it looks like it may only be possible with a CLR stored procedure.
Is it possible to implement a CLR stored procedure within an SSRS report?
Hope this makes sense. Any help, suggestion or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

SSRS supports web service data source, we can call the SOAP-based web service in SSRS report directly. Then, we can use custom code in SSRS to parse the XML data. However, we won’t be able to join another data in SQL Server database.

We cannot implement a CLR stored procedure within an SSRS report directly. In order to execute the CLR store procedure in a SSRS report, we have to execute it as text using the following code:

The problem with what you are trying to do is that include will inlcude the response and not the original document.
In other words the jsp engine will try to compile prelude into a servlet, but because your xml document is not valid this would fail. Hence the XML error.
Do you absolutely need to use the xml syntax? Because jsp page syntax would work in this situation.

Using Code Behind Technique and Popups

I am starting to use the code-behind technique a bit more
lately and have run into a problem.
If I try to open a popup using a class that has a separate
mxml and backing .as file, I get a null object reference.

JSP and HTTP return code

I am new at developing jsp, and I am looking for a way to send an HTTP return code under a specific condition.
for ex :
if(data==ok)
HTPP_return_code = 200;
else
HTPP_return_code = 500;

Within your JSP you can use the sendError method on the response object.
e.g.

JSP and Servlets? What's the difference?

I've got this book, and it's mixing servlet with jsp and then jsp with servlet. Can we just use one and still make a web application? What is the difference between the both? Can anyone give me a basic idea behind these 2 J2ee technologies.

Both use server-side Java to dynamically generate web pages. The source code to a JSP looks like HTML, with Java embedded inside
(a) normal HTML tags, (b) JSP tags like <jsp:include>, (c) custom tags, (d) scriptlets (Java code surrounded with <% and %>).
The source code to a servlet looks like Java, with HTML embedded in out.print(...) statements. Both use the Servlet API to communicate with the web server and the client. In fact, a JSP gets compiled into a servlet, so they're almost identical in terms of expressive power. The choice is, whether you're more comfortable coding your pages in Java or in JSP-style HTML; and since you can call a JSP from a Servlet and vice versa, you don't have to make an either-or decision.

Am I correct in assuming that JSP is an extention of servlets and that to learn JSP in effect means learning about servlets? My point is, is JSP the superior technology a bit like learning JDK1.4 is now a pointless excercise as it has been superceded by 1.5 ?

learning about servlets? No. This isn't necessary, as a matter of fact, it is one of the reasons why JSP exists - so people with little or no Java knowledge can build dynamic web sites using Servlet containers, assuming they have Java programmers behind them to build the tags / glue to the web app.
Still, I say having basic understanding of Servlets (at least) will help you out.
My point is, is JSP the
superior technology No. JSP has a different role. It makes display easier to code for non-Java programmers (looks more like HTML/XML), and easier to support and understand later on.
JSP does horribly bad at complex application control, data selection and manipulation, or as an interface to external resources. Java and Servlets are better at these tasks (but conversly, are horrible to work with for display purposes).
They are different, JSPs and Servlets, in what task they do. J2EE is far superior when you use them both appropriately.

JSP is a newer technology, but should not be used to replace Servlets, but used along side Servlets to provide a better designed and manageable application.
Let the servlets control what pages the user sees when, to gather data, to talk with external resources. Then forward to a JSP which simply displays what the Servlet did all the work in getting.

Error for visual ADF from xml code behind

Hello all:
I am a freshman to use Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1.
When I was using faces-config.xml to create JSP and JSPX page, the ADF component control suddenly diplayed abnormally, Only to show the tagbox like form, html, head, body and so on in Design view, sometimes even nothing to display,.But when I restart jdeveloper, some page would be OK again, others still can not be show normally. I checked the code behind the page.there is nothing wrong, because these codes are all auto-created.

I have solved this problem.
Because I added a filter into web.xml. It seemed that this would be complied while in design model. After I removed it, it's OK!

How do I add an image next to a hyperlink in code behind?

I am trying to dynamically display hyperlinks in a div, and I am also trying to add an image to appear right next to each hyperlink. My code is able to add the hyperlinks to the div's but I can't figure out how to add an image to appear next to each hyperlink.
I am not pretty good at doing this in the code behind, which is what the requirements demand. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? I am basically trying to add an image right next to each hyperlink as they are dynamically created. Here is what

Tree View through JSP and Java Script

I am looking for code or ideas of a Tree Structure as shown in in the left side frame of admin console of Sun App server 7 on the browser. I need to create a tree structure which will work on the browser like it works on the Sun App Server 7 admin console. If you had any idea or code, please share with me. I would like to have some idea before I start building it. The tree will be build from the database. So any database design is also helpful. I am planning to have that tree using JSP and EJB.

You can use the JSP Tree Tag I have developed. This helps you both structuring the tree model itself + it takes care of displaying the tree in a nice way. You can change all HTML code used to display the tree. Also you can build trees dynamically instead of just displaying static trees. Take a look at it here:

Customize Access Requried page with code behind attached to it in sharepoint 2010

Hi,
I have modified default AccessDenied page to my custom accessdenied.aspx page and put Request Access button on it and javascript client side redirection to my requestaccess (reqestaccess.aspx, reqestaccess.aspx.cs) application page.
Here the problem is whenever i try to redirect to custom requesaccess page in _layouts it again shows me accessdenied page since user is not having access.
I changed requrestaccess to my custom requestaccess through Powershell command (UpdateMapping - 5). I can only modify the UI part of requestaccess.aspx and can not bind code behind where i want user to select combination of what access is required
on the site, there are lots of controls on requestaccess page e.g. dropdown that fetches data from list\external list and so on.
I tried many things to attach code behind to requestaccess page e.g. <%@ Page Inherits="codebehind.cs" /> and all.
Q - How can i redirect user to custom request access page (includes both aspx, aspx.cs) and allow user to interact with custom page? Is there any way OR WORKAROUND to do this in Sharepoint 2010?
OR
Can we overide with ElevetedPermissions in UI\CodeBehind and show the application page to user?
OR
Can user access application page even though they donot have rights to access site? Anything will do.
OR
In short, I need to redirect a user to some .aspx\.aspx.cs page from AccessDenied page, irrespective of user having access or not.
I hope question is clear enough to understand the issue. :)

According to your post, my understanding is that you had an issue about the custom Access Required page.
Microsoft supported using code behind, but for these pages it seemed some difference.
However, as a workaround, we can put all the functionality to the aspx page directly.

We had problems making it initially work on Sun ONE Web Server 6.0 Service Pack 1 because of lack of good iPlanet Web
Server documentation on deploying such files.
This is how we went about it:
1) Make one of the servlet and JSP (must call another Java Class) web application (.war) examples work with iPlanet Web
Server.
C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\HelloWorld\HelloWorld.war
and
C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
a) Go to your Web Server Administration to deploy the application using GUI Web Application Deploy.
(We usually use command line, we experienced some issues with the GUI version, but maybe it is fixed in the new Web Server
service packs)
From browser, open http://yourserver:8888/
Click on Select a Server:Manage
Click on Virtual Server Class
Click on https-yourserver
Click on the Web Applications Tab
Then, click on Deploy Web Application
Enter the following -
WAR File On: Local
WAR File Path: C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
Application URI: /jakarta
Installation Directory: c:\iPlanet\examples\jakarta-examples
By clicking on OK it deployed the application.

Restart the web server (I don't think you have to restart, but .. might as well).
2)Deploy your web-application
My Foo.war has the following structure.
You can use jar tf Foo.war to look at the file contents from command line (assuming you have JDK installed and the bin is
in your PATH)

- web.xml
- [classes]
- Bar.class
- MoServlet.class
- [lib]
- ThirdParty.jar
- [natlib]
- extlib.dll
- foo.jsp
Here is our application scenario:
foo.jsp uses a class call Bar (it is not in any package). The Bar java class uses classes from ThirdParty.jar. The
ThirdParty.jar in turn uses JNI to load library extlib.dll. foo.jsp also calls /servlet/Mo as well.
Now to deploy it, do the following:
(a) Make sure that within foo.jsp, you import the Bar class ( I don't know why you have to do it, but if you don't you get
JSP compile error).
<%@page language="java" import="Bar" contentType="text/html"%>
(b) Check web.xml (for Servlets)
Within web.xml, make sure you have the following mappings:
<servlet>
<servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
<servlet-class> MoServlet </servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
<url-pattern> /servlet/Mo </url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
(c) Deploy the application
Using command line:
wdeploy deploy      -u /foo
          -i yourserver
          -v https-yourserver
          -d c:\iplanet\examples\foo-dir
          Foo.war
(d) Change web-apps.xml file (for picking up ThirdParty.jar)
It is located in
C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
You should see something similar to following after successful deployment.

We HAD to change this file in order for ThirdParty.jar file to pick up the native C++ code using JNI. Apparently, the
iPlanet Web Server doesn't pick the Environment Variable Path. Because when we had the directory containing the DLL just
in Path, it didn't work.
Change Extrapath directive:
ExtraPath C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
to
ExtraPath c:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib;C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
(g) Apply changes from the Web Server Administration Console and Restart the web server.
You should be able to see the behaviour that you want from your application.

2)Deploy your web-application
My Foo.war has the following structure.
You can use jar tf Foo.war to look at the file contents from command line (assuming you have JDK installed and the bin is
in your PATH)
Foo.war

- Bar.class
- MoServlet.class
- [lib]
- ThirdParty.jar
- [natlib]
- extlib.dll
- foo.jsp
Here is our application scenario:
foo.jsp uses a class call Bar (it is not in any package). The Bar java class uses classes from ThirdParty.jar. The
ThirdParty.jar in turn uses JNI to load library extlib.dll. foo.jsp also calls /servlet/Mo as well.
Now to deploy it, do the following:
(a) Make sure that within foo.jsp, you import the Bar class ( I don't know why you have to do it, but if you don't you get
JSP compile error).
<%@page language="java" import="Bar" contentType="text/html"%>
(b) Check web.xml (for Servlets)
Within web.xml, make sure you have the following mappings:
<servlet>
<servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
<servlet-class> MoServlet </servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
<url-pattern> /servlet/Mo </url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
(c) Deploy the application
Using command line:
wdeploy deploy      -u /foo
          -i yourserver
          -v https-yourserver
          -d c:\iplanet\examples\foo-dir
          Foo.war
(d) Change web-apps.xml file (for picking up ThirdParty.jar)
It is located in
C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
You should see something similar to following after successful deployment.

Change it to look like following to pick up the ThirdParty.jar

Add or uncomment the following lines:
#optional - just helps with instrumenting the jsp and servlet code

nes.jsp.enabledebug=1
jvm.trace=7
jvm.verboseMode=1
#required for JNI

(f) Change magnus.conf file (for JNI)
We HAD to change this file in order for ThirdParty.jar file to pick up the native C++ code using JNI. Apparently, the
iPlanet Web Server doesn't pick the Environment Variable Path. Because when we had the directory containing the DLL just
in Path, it didn't work.
Change Extrapath directive:
ExtraPath C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
to
ExtraPath c:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib;C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
(g) Apply changes from the Web Server Administration Console and Restart the web server.
You should be able to see the behaviour that you want from your application.
