JSP to Generate PDF Document

Hi,
I am developing a jsp system that needs to generate a pdf document for every page before proceding to the next on the click of a button.
What i have now is itext but itext is a time taker! i have to literally code every page and extract values from my classes.
What i would like is if there was such an api that could auto generate the jsp page into pdf since all the values will be there when the user clicks to procede to the next page.
Would really appreciate help!!

Try to find out more about Filters usage.
It's a kind of wrapper that get executed when a user request a resources(page for instance) before the file(specified in form action) takes control, this is used to carry out common process to a group of pages without coding each piece of code in each page,
AND when a response is send back, this same Filter get control to include or modified current response to client.
I think that in order to parse the response and generate .pdf files(if the pdf for current page does not exist) you should write the html response in xml format. or at least you should use a component like JTidy that builds an XHTML-compliant page from a non-xhtml compliant page.
In Filter implementation you should parse the response and transform it using Formatting Object Processor such as FOP or XING, or anyother

You will need to use form fields. You may be able to use adjustible size form fields in Designer. You might try to ask in the Designer forum for help.

Error while generating PDF document

I am using RH 8 and cannot generate a Printed PDF document.

There is a warning about a malformed topic. I have seen projects where there is nothing wrong with the topic but where the machine needed more RAM. What are the basics of your PC?
Also try turning off PDF and generating a Word document instead. If that works, PDF from there. Does that work?

Read Time Out Exception while generating PDF Document

We are working on Netweaver 04,Patch SP 16 and trying to generate a Non Interactive PDF on ADS Version SP 14 for printing purpose (Eg.Invoice). This extracts data using EJBs. We used Interactive Form UI element which has various sub elements like static image, etc.
We are using Acrobat Reader 7.0 for generating PDF.
The form fetches the records and prints perfectly in the Development System, While creates a 'java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed
out ' Exception in Production.
Time Out period for web service container is set to 180 sec in both Dev and Prod.
Default trace in the production is continously throwing following error."com.adobe.document.XMLFormService#com.adobe/AdobeDocumentServices#com.adobe.document.XMLFormService

Thanks for the prompt reply. However, SAP notes 867502
and 811342 speak about PDF manipulation services, which we are not using in our application. We need to create non interactive form which simply reads the data from the DB and displays it to the users for printing.
The other 2 notes-826419 and 849851 talk about SP 10,11 and 12, while we are using SP14 for Adobe Services and SP 16 for Netweaver Java Stack.
The application works perfectly on the Development Server, but not on Production Server. Though all the configurations are same on both the servers, still can you suggest what all things need to be considered ?

Emailing Generated PDF Document as Attachment - Error

Hi Forum,
A custom Print Form was developed using SFP Transaction and trying to send the Form to the vendors using an email attachment.
1. Used cl_bcs class for sending email. Attachment data(Generated PDF Output) was moved to solix_tab .
2. In the email attachment I see a PDF attachment with some funny characters and not the PDF Document I see in the print preview
Please advice me what I should do to the actual PDF document in the email attachment .

Characters that are not included in the ASCII character set are not displayed correctly due to an incorrect encoding setting of the browser.
During the display of the overview in the PDF format, errors may occur in certain versions of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. In this case, a blank page is displayed.
The problem is caused by a program error.

SAP WebAs sends incorrect encoding information to the browser so that the latter does not switch to the correct encoding utf-8 automatically.
Some versions of the Adobe Acrobat Reader may have problems with that, for example version 6.0.

The revised version with various changes in the translation is provided by the attachment of this note.

Thanks for coming to my aid again.
Some of the things I'm scanning are records that need to be good as photocopies because I will have to email them or copy-or-print and snail mail them.
That's interesting about how the PDF file is made. I thought PDF would be a native format and chose it for "compatibility". I'm not sure if everyone have apps that can handle TIFFs (especially on the PC side). My recollection from scanning in the 90s with my Paperport is that TIFFs can print "huge" or "teeny" depending on the settings it was scanned at.
Using your advice scanning with Preview set to B&W as TIFF and PDF and both times the files were smaller. Thank you so much.
I also tried converting the TIFF to PDF in Graphic converter because I can batch convert documents that way. However, I noticed that the printouts of the B&W scans are rather poor quality. On the other hand the B&W scans print out as the whole page and not with a white border like the color scans do.
The B&W pdfs scan slightly smaller than the TIFFs. So that's probably what I will do for these documents.
I will have to search out /experiment with the OCR for things that I can save as text when I get a chance.
I have so much to learn about scanning.

Can I generate pdf document that has Acrojs functionality with the sdk?

Generate PDF documents from a template

We need a solution for the following scenario soon.
We need to create documents off of a template. The template is a pdf document with place holders in the text
For example: Assuming that the following is the text in the template I am talking about
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, $FIRSTNAME consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed risus orci, consectetur at malesuada euismod, $LASTNAME hendrerit ut turpis. Donec ullamcorper egestas condimentum. Ut eu nisi lacus.
We will create documents off of the above template by replacing $FIRSTNAME and $LASTNAME. The text needs to adjust as needed. In short, we don't want to use fixed fields for the text to be replaced.
Can this be done? How?

RoboHelp not able to generate PDF document properly

Hello,
I have RoboHelp for Word V9.0.2 and when I want to generate a PDF file, I've got many topics named 'No Data', and some of the parts only of my document has been computed.
What am I supposed to do to have a clean source file in order for the PDF generation to be done correctly?

I've tried to update the options into Word associated to Template add-ins, but nothing changed.
I've also tried to set the lowest rights to macro, but, didn't change the issue.
Tried to erase the RTF by keeping the .doc file and tried to erase the .doc file by keeping the .rtf one.
Maybe it is due to pictures which have not been inserted through True Code. I've tried to change it, but nothing happened in the menu display mode : 516 pages are changed in an half of seconds. I doubt it is working correctly.
Anyway, I don't know what to do further...
Ideas?

Query Print Layout - Generated PDF Document Name?

Query Print Layouts associated to my user queries work great for printing...but does anyone know if there is a way to set a more appropriate document file name when attaching an edited PDF report to an email? It seems to always automatically create a document name starting with 'Query Manager_-1_12' or something similar when attaching the report document directly to email.
I do realize that I can save the file locally, choose any name I like, then attach to email... but this defeats the purpose of being able to send the query report directly to the email icon.
If anyone knows how I can do this it would be much appreciated. There seems no option in the QPLD document properties.

Yes, I have the same question. It could be great being able to choose the name of the document when creating a pdf. Even better if you could chose fields of the document for the name of the pdf, such as, name of customer, number of document, date, etc.

Blank Page at the end of generated PDF Document

Hi,
my problem is that ADS is generating a blank page at the end of my report.
I fill the ADS with a template and an XML stream.
The XML stream contains multiple orders. Each order has several detail data. It is a requirement that every order object has to appear at a new page.
XML structure:
- Order
-- Group1
--- fields of Group1
-- Group2
--- Fields of Group2
My template looks like this:
- body page subform: Order (Default binding: $record.Order[*]; Repeat Subform for Each Data Item: yes; After: Go To Next Page)
-- subform1
--- fields of subform1
-- subform2
--- fields of subform2
Because of the "Go To Next Page" at the Order subform a new page is rendered each time an order ends. This leads to the blank page after the last order is processed.
Does anyone know how I can suppress the blank page at the end of the document?

Invalid append operation when generating pdf document?

I am getting the following Log warning when I check the log of my livecycle designer es2 form:
Invalid append operation: fill cannot have a child element of color
The element[color] has violated its allowable number of occurences.
I don't know how to find the problem, and the form previews properly in Acrobat preview.
Can someone tell me what this means, and what I need to do to correct the error?

Have you done any changes in the XML source or do you use scripting to change the fill color of an object?

I am trying to create a PO thru auto create but I hit inquire > View Document , I encountered an error: System Failed to generate the PDF Document. Please contact your system administrator. We just updgrade our instance from 11.5.2.10 to r12.1.2. Any thoughts?

Setting passwords for pdf document generated by SAP system

We are generating PDF documents from SAP system and distributing them as email attachment. just want to know if anyhow we can enforce the password protection while generating these documents or may be setting the password protection before distribution. If yes, then what are the requirements/essentials for the same?

1. Is there any OSS Note on the same issue where it has been published by SAP that it can only be ensured using third party solutions? If yes, may I have the link?
I have no clue on this i.e. whether we can integrate Adobe Policy Server. My understanding was in it's current state it is NOT possible to have secured PDF Forms.
2. May I have the more elaboration on the way you mentioned in your reply?
Well what you can do is hide all the elements in the form and keep only a TextField visible. Now write a script and check the value entered in the TextField. If it matches with the default password you want to set then make the form visible else display error prompt back to user.

Error while exporting to PDF document in OBIEE 11g

In OBIEE 11g we are facing an issue regarding exporting a few reports to pdf. It is resulting in following error: "Error generating PDF document".
The reports are placed on a dashboard which has a prompt too. However, when we remove the prompts, the export is working fine.

Looks like this is a sort of known bug with PDF creator in 11g. Try implementing the below solution:
To configure the Javahost service, edit the Javahost service configuration parameters in the
instanceconfig.xml file. The parameters are
identified by their relative path starting from the /WebConfig/ServerInstance node
For example:
<JavaHost>
<PDF>
<InputStreamLimitInKB>50000</InputStreamLimitInKB>
</PDF>
</JavaHost>
After changes restart Siebel Analytics Java Host and Siebel Analytics Web services
If it doesn't work try to create same report in xml publisher as presentations services in obiee has limited capacities in printing out reports.
