Jstl variables into jsf

How can I pass variable from jstl into jsf
for example size="<c:out value='25'/>"
if it is possible?
<h:inputText id="userid" size="25" required="false" value="#{FacesLogon.loginName}" >
<f:validateLength minimum="0" maximum="7" />
</h:inputText>

Dear rlubke,
I'm getting the following exception:
500 Internal Server Error
javax.servlet.jsp.JspException
at com.sun.faces.taglib.jsf_core.ViewTag.doStartTag(ViewTag.java:117)
at seguridad.Login._jspService(Login.jsp:5)
[seguridad/Login.jsp]
I'm getting it very often, in several JSPs, in a randomly fashion. I'm using JSF 1.1_01, running on Oracle OC4J.
I downloaded the JSF 1.1 source code and started to research it. I found that ViewTag.java is calling the doStartTag() method from UIComponentTag.java. In the latest class, there are 3 cases where am exception is being thrown. Two of them show a "PENDING - i18n" comment.
I found you CVS developer ID in the source code, so I thought about searching for you on the sun forums and write you. Luckily, I found you.
Question: This is a bug, right? Is this related to i18n? I'm running my JSF pages on Spanish (<f:view locale="es-es">), so I guess this is in fact an i18n.
What can I do to avoid this situation? Is there a fix?
PLEASE help me, we are developing a very critical app
Brian

  • Accessing a JSTL variable in a JSP Scriptlet (need to replace string )

    I have
    <c:set var="myVar" value="..." />
    I need to replace single quotes and double quotes to be escaped because I pass them into javascript functions and set them as ID for div sections
    ... onclick ="func('${myVar}')" ..
    <div id="${myVar}">
    but if the string contains ' single quotes it messes up the javascript or double quotes messes up the ID portion of the HTML tag
    I know there is the JSTL function fn but I can't figure out how to do it properly in JSTL
    <c:set var="myVar"
    value="${fn:replace(myVar, "'", "\"")"/>
    But that gets tricky since the value portion is enclosed in quotes
    So I was thinking of using a Scriptlet part instead.

escaping quotes within quotes within quotes.... ARGH!
Recipe for a headache if ever there was one.
However you must be strong and resist the temptations of the dark side (Scriptlet code)
My suggestion for cleaning this up - write your own static function for escaping javascript strings.
public static String escapeJavascriptString(String s){
  return .......
}Then define the function in a tld:
<function>
    <description>
      Escapes a string for javascript purposes

  • How to insert the data which is present in the variable into the table

    Hi,
    Let's consider that I have one table and I have stored the table column names in one variable and their values in another variable.
    I want to insert the data that is present in the variables into the table.
    I tried the following way :
    Declare
    V_columns    Varchar2(50) := 'Empno';
    V_values       Number(10) := 101;
    Begin
    Insert Into Emp (V_columns) Values (V_values);
    End;
    The above procedure gives an error : PL?SQL : ORA-00904 : "V_COLUMNS": invalid identifier
    Using the Execute Immediate, we can insert the data which is present in the variables into the table.
    Is there any other way to insert the data which is present in the variable into the table..?
    Can anyone please give me the solution..?
    Thanks..

    plz use this...
    DECLARE
       v_columns   VARCHAR2 (50) := 'Empno';
       v_values    NUMBER (10)   := 101;
    BEGIN
       EXECUTE IMMEDIATE    'Insert Into Emp ('
                         || v_columns
                         || ') Values ('
                         || v_values
                         || ')';
       COMMIT;
    END;

  • How to SIMPLY use the %DIMENSION_TO_SET% variables into logic scripts

    hello,
    I'm using a prompt of type "COPYMOVE" or "COPYMOVEINPUT". In this type of prompt, there are 2 columns of dimension members list, one for defining the "source zone" and one for defining the "target zone" of logics.
    The left colum of the prompt (for source zone) feeds the variables %DIMENSION_SET% : %ACCOUNT_SET%, %ENTITY_SET%, %CATEGORY_SET%, etc...and these variables can be used in the logic scripts in *XDIM_MEMBERSET instructions for example.
    The right colum of the prompt feeds the variables %DIMENSION_TO_SET% : %ACCOUNT_TO_SET%, %ENTITY_TO_SET%, %CATEGORY_TO_SET%, etc...and I don't know how to SIMPLY use these variables in the logic scripts.
    I've found a tricky way to do that but I meet 2 problems :
    - it is complicated
    - the multi-info instruction (BEGININFO/ENDINFO) seems to be bugged as blank lines are added all the time in the code and sometimes I have to wait for minutes when I try to modifiy the package code through BPC for excel eData/modify package menu.
    So the question is how to SIMPLY get the %DIMENSION_TO_SET% variables into logic scripts and use them ? Thanks, R.
    Here is the tricky package code I use at this time (I build one function for each %DIMENSION_TO_SET% variable and I pass these functions to the logic) :
    PROMPT(COPYMOVE,,,,"ACCDETAIL,ACCOUNT,CATEGORY,DATASRC,ENTITY,TIME,YEARS")
    TASK(Execute formulas,USER,WS-WW\PlauchuR)
    TASK(Execute formulas,APPSET,US)
    TASK(Execute formulas,APP,SV)
    TASK(Execute formulas,SELECTION,D:\BPC\Data\WebFolders\US\SV\PrivatePublications\PlauchuR\TempFiles\FROM_1561_.TMP)
    TASK(Execute formulas,TOSELECTION,D:\BPC\Data\WebFolders\US\SV\PrivatePublications\PlauchuR\TempFiles\TO_1561_.TMP)
    BEGININFO(%FSS%)
    *FUNCTION TARGETACCDETAIL=%ACCDETAIL_TO_SET%
    *FUNCTION TARGETACCOUNT=%ACCOUNT_TO_SET%
    *FUNCTION TARGETCATEGORY=%CATEGORY_TO_SET%
    *FUNCTION TARGETDATASRC=%DATASRC_TO_SET%
    *FUNCTION TARGETENTITY=%ENTITY_TO_SET%
    *FUNCTION TARGETTIME=%TIME_TO_SET%
    *FUNCTION TARGETYEARS=%YEARS_TO_SET%
    ENDINFO
    TASK(Execute formulas,FORMULASCRIPT,%FSS%)
    TASK(Execute formulas,LOGICFILE,D:\BPC\Data\WebFolders\US\SV
    ..\AdminApp\SV\_TEST.Lgf)
    TASK(Execute formulas,RUNMODE,1)
    TASK(Execute formulas,LOGICMODE,1)
    Edited by: ALEXANDRE BEDIER on Jun 16, 2010 3:15 PM

    hello,
    finally I've discovered that there is no need of BEGININFO instruction.
    One can pass several functions to a logic with one FORMULASCRIPT task. The functions definitions have to be separated by instructions. See below :
    PROMPT(COPYMOVEINPUT,%FTARGETS%,,"select source and target zone for category and datasource.","ACCDETAIL,ACCOUNT,CATEGORY,DATASRC,ENTITY,TIME,YEARS")
    TASK(Execute formulas,FORMULASCRIPT,*FUNCTION TACCDETAIL=%ACCDETAIL_TO_SET% *FUNCTION TACCOUNT=%ACCOUNT_TO_SET% *FUNCTION TCATEGORY=%CATEGORY_TO_SET% *FUNCTION TDATASRC=%DATASRC_TO_SET% *FUNCTION TENTITY=%ENTITY_TO_SET% *FUNCTION TTIME=%TIME_TO_SET% *FUNCTION TYEARS=%YEARS_TO_SET%)
    TASK(Execute formulas,USER,%USER%)
    TASK(Execute formulas,APPSET,%APPSET%)
    TASK(Execute formulas,APP,%APP%)
    TASK(Execute formulas,SELECTION,%SELECTIONFILE%)
    TASK(Execute formulas,LOGICFILE,%APPPATH%\..\AdminApp\%APP%\_TEST.LGF)
    TASK(Execute formulas,RUNMODE,1)
    TASK(Execute formulas,LOGICMODE,1)
    Then one will be able to use the functions TACCDETAIL, TCATEGORY, TACCOUNT,... in the logic script.

  • How to store serval char variables into a string variable?

    I have serval char variables, but i don't know how to put them together (without using arrays). I am thinking to store these char variables into a string variable but i don't know how to do it. For example,
    char letter1 = 'a', letter2 = 'b', letter3 = 'c';
    String letters;
    then how can i do to make letters = "abc" from using letter1,2,3?
    I am just a beginner of Java, if anyone can help me, i will appreciate that very much!!!

    String letters=""+leter1+letter2+letter3;is fine and dandy. What it actually compiles to is
    String letters = new StringBuffer().append(letter1).append(letter2).append(letter3).toString();Which ofcourse is much more code to write, but still good to know.
    So do see the API for java.lang.StringBuffer.

  • How to pass a JavaScript variable into a java method

    I would like to know how to pass a JavaScript variable into a java method with in a <% %> tag inside a JSP file like so:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <html>
    <head>
    <script LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    myValue = someDynamicValue;
    <% System.out.println(myValue)%>
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    obviously "System.out.println(myValue)" will not work because myValue is seen as a java variable and not a JavaScript variable.
    I would like to know how to let the jsp file, that I wrote in the above code, see myValue as a JavaScript variable and not a java variable so that I can pass it to a java method.
    NOTE: the java method does not have to be a println() method, it can be any method of my choice.
    NOTE: someDynamicValue is a JavaScript value that can dynamically change

    I don't believe you can. JSPs are really just elaborate templates that an engine such as Tomcat parses and generates an HTML page based on. That page is then displayed to the user. By the time you want to use some function in Javascript, the JSP has already been parsed and generated.
    Basically, Javascript and JSPs can't talk to each other. One's server-side and the other is client-side.

  • How to pass a variable into a cfc?

    prior to calling the cfinvoke, I have coding that determins a
    variable "X"
    I need to pass X into a cfc so it can complete the query held
    there.
    So I tried
    <cfinvoke component="A"
    method="AList"
    returnvariable="AResults">
    <cfinvokeargument name="x" value="#X#"
    /></cfinvoke>
    correct so far?
    Now over on the cfc page is where I'm getting stuck
    Inside my cffunction I'm adding <cfargument name="X" />
    But how do I get the value in?

    I don't quite understand your question. Can you rephrase?
    But before all that, bear in mind that one doesn't pass a
    variables into a
    *CFC*, one passes it into a function within the CFC. And as
    with all
    functions, one passes values into the function by passing it
    as an
    argument. But - of course - the function has to be coded to
    expect the
    argument.
    Your own sample code demonstrates this in action:
    <cfinvokeargument name="abbrCode"
    value="#companyAbbrCode#" />
    (NB: lose the trailing slash: this is CFML, not XML).
    So you know how to do that.
    Hence me not quite understanding what you're actually asking.

  • How to get a variable into another block?

    Hello,
    (I am from Germany, so be patient due my english please)
    We do a project at our University where we have to do with wordfrequencies. The app works fine, but it cannot works with the variable wich contains the information to analyse.
    Look, I am more or less new in Java and I found a code and modyfied that. So I had to initalize the variable with the data from another class. I did the following thing.
    Thats is the class, where the variable is come from:
    class Lesen extends HTMLEditorKit.ParserCallback
         String zeile;
         String fileName;
         Wortfrequenz aha;                                 // name of the class where I need the variable                                                                                                                                                                      public Lesen (String fileName)
              this.fileName = fileName;
    public void handleText(char[] data, int pos)
                    String strom = new String (data);
                    aha = new Wortfrequenz ();
                    aha.verb(strom);                // "strom" is the variable here in this class which caontains the data
    ....and within the class "Wortfrequenz" I tryed to do the following thing:
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class Wortfrequenz
         static String flus;
         public void verb (String o)
              flus = o;
    HashMap words = new HashMap();
    HashMap stopWords = new HashMap();
    String delim = " \t\n.,:;?!-/()[]\"\'";
    String file;
    String word;
    Count count;
                    try
                            FileReader kl = new FileReader("stopwords.txt");
                            BufferedReader mk = new BufferedReader(kl);
                            String einlesen;
                            Lesen eins = new Lesen(flus);
                            while ((einlesen = mk.readLine()) != null)
                                    stopWords.put(einlesen, einlesen);
                            mk.close();  if I test the app and do a "System.out" direktly after
    flus = o;then I can see that the information is within the variable, but when I test the variable within the next block where I need it, for example after
    Count count;or anywhere in this block, then I get
    null
    null
    null
    null
    null
    ...if anyone tell me how I can get the information of this variable into the nex block, that would be great.
    Thanks a lot for helping...
    Stephan

    This: public void verb (String o)
      flus = o;
    }Is the whole verb method. That's all it does is assign the flus variable. This:{
    HashMap words = new HashMap();
    // etcIs an initializer, which runs as soon as the object is created, ie before the verb method.

    I can’t figure out how to insert the value passed by a

  • How can you add data from a variable into a column in a data flow?

    I need to populate a table with data from a variable. The data type of the variable is String. I'm running into issues doing it the way I am. I have variable
    User:VariableName = "Some moderately sized string of data"
    When I try to use a Derived Column Transformation Editor to insert the variable into the data flow as a new column, SSIS forces the Data Type to be Unicode String[DT_WSTR] and I can't change it. Additionally the length is 0 and I also can't change that.
    When I run the package it errors with a truncation error. If the length is 0 then that makes sense but then why can't I change it to something that makes more sense?
    What is the correct way to go about this?

    Use advanced editor to change data type and length.

  • How do I enter a variable into an equation?

    How do I enter a variable into an equation?

    Jacob,
    Spreadsheets don't use equations, so the usual nomenclature can be confusing.
    When you enter something into a spreadsheet cell, it is either a Literal Value (Constant), or an Expression, preceded by an equal sign, that tells the spreadsheet to display something. Every Cell Reference in the Expression is a Variable. The equal sign in this case does not signify an equality, it just signals the spreadsheet that you want it to do something, defined by the expression that follows.
    Here's an equation: A1 = B1 + C1 + 10, where B1 and C1 are variables and 10 is a constant.
    To figure out what the value of A1 is, you write an expression in cell A1. That Expression would be: =B1 + C1 + 10. The operation that is performed by the spreadsheet is that it looks at B1 and C1, adds whatever it sees there and then adds the constant 10, and displays the result in A1.
    It can get very complex. Expressions can contain Functions that catch the Time or generate a random number, or round a value, etc. Just remember that anything you see in a cell can be changed, so that content, that cell address, is a variable

  • Passing variable into pdf document

    I have created a pdf document that I want to share with my marketing team.  However, in the document I want the url to be dynamic and show that individual's url.   For example, if my domain is www.xyz123abc.com   In the pdf, I want to setup the url in the document as www.xyz123abc.com/REPSITE.  Then when the pdf is opened from each individual's site, we will pass the REPSITE variable into the pdf document.   If my marketing page is www.xyz123abc.com/jim.   When someone visits my website and opens the pdf, they will see www.xyz123abc.com/jim.  When my partner Bob's site is visited, the pdf will display www.xyz123abc.com/bob.
    So how can I dynamically pass variables from a website into the pdf?

    Don't know if there is a better way, but you could use the 'identity Object'. Just make sure that the Identity is set in the application preferences for each employee
    var userName = identity.name
    Edit: Sorry, after rereading your post, I don't think this is what you are asking for. Perhaps the 'HostContainer Object' wll allow you to do what you want?

  • Using JSTL variables in JSP or Javascript. Possible ?

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to share or use the variables which are declared are used by JSTL in JSP expression or scriplet code and in Java Script.
    Example:
    This Works:
    <fmt:set var="test" value="JSTL" />
    <fmt:out value="${test}" />
    But, this gives error:
    <% out.println(test) %>
    And passing the value of variable 'test' to Java Script code also gives error.
    How to use JSTL variables in JSP and in Javascript ?
    Yours,
    Sankar.B

    By default, JSTL variables are kept in servlet
    attributes. Default is to store it in the page
    context. You can make it request/session/application
    scope as required by an attribute of the set tag.Hi there,
    Can anyone advise how to access JSP variables in JSTL?
    Can it be done as the same method through request/session/application scope?
    Thnks...
