JTable Column Headings

While adding a Jtable without a scrollpane, the column headings are not displayed, why?

Why does JTable doesn't automatically display the table header?Because its actually two components. One is the JTable and one is the JTableHeader.
If you add the JTable to a scroll pane (the most common situation), there is code in the JTable class that checks if the table is being added to a scroll pane. The scroll pane has a well know layout so the header can be added safely to the column header of the scroll pane.
However if you add the table to a panel you don't know what layout manager is being used is so you don't know where to add the header so it is left up to the programmer to customize the layout appropriately.

  • Changing default JTable column headings

    Hi,
    I've created a simple JTable using the following constructor:
    JTable table = new JTable ( numRows, numCols);
    and I would now like to change the default column headings ("A", "B", "C" etc) to something else. I'm trying to use the following method
    setColumnIdentifiers
    but how do I access the DefaultTableModel associated with table so that I can call this method?
    Is there another way of changing the headings of my simple table?
    Thanks a lot,
    Leori.

    myTable.getTableHeader().getColumnModel().getColumn(0).setHeaderValue("Foo");

  • JTable column headings - how to change after instantiation

    Is there a way to change the column headings on a JTable AFTER is has already been instantiated? I reviewed the JTable, TableModel and TableColumn API's in detail. The only method I found related to this is the 'getColumnName' in TableModel. But there is no associated 'setColumnName'.

    Hi!
    You can use the method setHeaderValue(Object) of TableColumn. I wrote a small example:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.table.*;
    public class TableExample {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            JFrame frame = new JFrame();
            Object[][] data = {
                { "a1", "a2", "a3" },
                { "b1", "b2", "b3" },
                { "c1", "c2", "c3" },
            Object[] headers = {
                "1", "2", "3"
            JTable table = new JTable(data, headers);
            frame.getContentPane().add(new JScrollPane(table));
            frame.pack();
            frame.setVisible(true);
            //  Change header for first column
            TableColumnModel columnModel = table.getColumnModel();
            TableColumn col0 = columnModel.getColumn(0);
            col0.setHeaderValue("New header value");
    }Søren

  • JTable Column Headings not displaying

    Hi
    I have recently made a Jtable a node of a Jtree.
    My table shows (semi-correctly) and is editable.
    I can't seem to see the headings of each column. and the left hand border line of the table is missing.
    Anyone know why this is?? I presume that I cant resize my columns due to the fact I cant see the headings.
    Thanks
    mike

    If you don't want to put the table in a scrollpane you can put it on a JPanel too...but use the BorderLayout and add the table to the center and the tableheader to the North portion.

  • Almost invisible JTable column headers

    I'm writing an applet which contains a JTable within a JScrollPane. For a while the column headings (text) were visible, but recently the column headings have become very small in height. There is barely enough there so that the mouse can be used to sort, or resize or reorder the columns, but the text can not be seen. It doesn't seem to be related to the number of rows in the table. The getColumnName() method is being called and returning the correct strings, but they don't show up on the screen. As I said, this was working ok until recently, and I don't know what I changed that might have caused it.
    Any ideas? Thanks ... John Lawrence

    I am trying to have a JTable with variable height header. I give the headers a renderer that parses the text into a vector (breaking it into lines), and then returns a JList populated with the vector.
    ex: if the text is "Line1\nLine2", the header will have double height, with two lines:
    Line1
    Line2
    The problem is the same that you encountered: Swing only looks at the header of the 1st column to determine the height of all! So if there are headers with more lines than the 1st one, they get chopped!
    Does anybody know a workaround?

  • Export JTable Column headers to Excel document

    Hello all!!! I am having a small problem while trying to export some data from a jTable to an excel document.
    I have a jTable and I use a custom TableModel with this:
    private String[] columnNames = {"First", "Second", "Third", "Forth"};as names for each column of the table.
    The thing I am trying to do is to export exactly the same "headers" from the columns of the jTable to the excel spreadsheet using Jakarta POI. Unfortunately I don't know how to do it and I haven't found anything yet on this forum. Can anyone help me with this?
    In simple words I want to know how I can have the same headers from my jTable columns, with the headers from the excel doument I will create.
    Many thanks in advanve!!!
    Kostas

    Thank you for your reply first of all. The problem is how to get the heading text and how to put it to the excel's first row OR to excels "headings" (if it is possible...). [in other words replace A,B,C,D from the excel document with the headers I get from the jTable...] .
    I hope now you can see what I am looking for... If there is no solution to this please tell me what are the alternatives. (B) could be a good example.
    Thanks you very much!!

  • JTable Column Names Not Displaying

    Hi there
    I create a JTable by passing the JTable constructor my custom TableModel which extends AbstractTableModel.
    For column names I have a String[] containing the column names in my custom TavleModel and have coded the TableModel methods accordingly.
    For some reason when I run the code the table is displayed, but the column names are not!?!
    Any advance is appreciated!

    Sorted!
    After looking at sample code in the JTable tutorial, it seems the table likes/needs to be added to a JScrollPane, as once I did this the column headings started appearing.
    e.g. JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(table);

  • Can't get JTable column names to show

    Here are some extracts for some code that I wrote to create a simple JTable:
    columnNames = new Vector();
    columnNames.add("column1");
    columnNames.add("column2");
    columnNames.add("column3");
    rowData = new Vector();
    basic = new Vector();
    basic.add("SKY BASIC");
    basic.add("1");
    basic.add("?100");
    family = new Vector();
    family.add("SKY FAMILY");
    family.add("2");
    family.add("?200");
    rowData.add(basic);
    rowData.add(family);
    incomeTable = new JTable(rowData, columnNames);
    incomeTable.setPreferredScrollableViewportSize(new Dimension(1000, 150));When I do this the table appears on the GUI with all the required information in the table cells, except no Column headings appear.
    Any ideas what this might be?

    Or override the isCellEditable method of JTable:
            JTable table = new JTable( ... )
                public boolean isCellEditable(int row, int column)
                        return false;
            };

  • Webforms - Wrap Text/Word Wrap for Column Headings

    I have some member aliases that are set as my webform's column headings, but they are fairly long. Setting the column width to a custom value that fits most of the text in the heading makes the form very wide and ugly to work with. I don't see any option to Wrap Text or use Word Wrap in the column headings. Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I am not aware of any option which allows you to wrap the text, it may be possible customizing the [CSS |http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/ch12s03.html] though to be honest I am not even sure about that and even if it was possible it would apply to all apps.

  • LOV of column names with a report's custom column headings?

    I have a list ov values definition that looks like this:
    select column_name d, column_name r from all_tab_columns where table_name = 'DATABASE_LIST'
    I'd like to list the custom column headings from a report as d, rather than repeating the column_name. How can I do this?

    As Anton said, the best thing is to store your custom headings in a table so that you can use the table for your LOV as well as for your report headings.
    To use dynamic report headings, you can use the 'PL/SQL function body returning colon-delimited headings' feature on the Report Attributes page.
    So, if your report headings are stored in table t that function body can be
    declare
    l_headings varchar2(4000)
    begin
    for rec in (select heading from t) loop
       l_headings := l_headings||':'||rec.heading;
    end loop;
    return ltrim(l_heading,':');
    end;Hope this helps.

  • Dynamic crystal report generation - issues with column headings

    Hi All,<br>
    I'm trying to generate a crystal report dynamically based on a "result set" data(Query: select REPORT_ID, REPORT_NAME, REPORT_DESC, RPT_FILE_NAME, LOCATION from IRS_REPORT_DETAILS). I'm able to generate the report run time, But the report is without columns heads. I would like to include the column headings as well. <br><br>
    I searched the API(RAS) and found that there is a 'add(java.lang.String fieldName, java.lang.String headingText) " method present in "ReportObjectController" using which we can add the headings.<br><br>

    appreciate your help.

    IField field = table.getDataFields().getField(i);
    Here you are getting the first field in the array.  This may not be the field you want to add since we aren't sure how the arrays are ordered when retrieving fields from the report.  It is better to retrieve the fields with the findObjectByName method, thus ensuring you are retrieving the field you want to add to your heading.

    Hi,
    The heading are in the table pt_fcat - you don't seem to be passing that in form....
    PERFORM setup_and_display_alv_ver2
    USING
    it_out_alvp "Parameter structure
    it_output[] "Internal Data table(header table)
    it_output[]. "Dummy table for Hierarchical ALV!!(item table)
    which I guessing in in one of the includes?
    Saying that the extract pof code does not show where you are calling form it_out_alv_fieldcat_before ...which populates the headings...

  • Column headings in a file extract to excel

    I am writing a program that will extract data and download it as a tab delimited file which will be input to excel. I need to put column headings on the file and I have attached an sample of the code that I am using. It is working fine but I am not sure if this is the correct approach I have a file that has 87 columns in it.
    thanks in advance for the help.
    DATA: begin of header_line occurs 0,
          line(50) type c,
          end of header_line.
    FORM build_header_line.
      header_line-line = 'Vendor'.
      append header_line.
      header_line-line = 'CoCd'.
      append header_line.
      header_line-line = 'POrg'.
      append header_line.
      header_line-line = 'Group'.
      append header_line.
      header_line-line = 'Name'.
      append header_line.
    .(87 times)
    ENDFORM. "  build_header_line.
    CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_DOWNLOAD'
        EXPORTING
          filename                = l_path

        TABLES
         fieldnames               = header_line
          data_tab                = it_extract_data
        EXCEPTIONS

    Hi Timothy,
    The current approach of your code doesnt include a header to your file.
    Header is used add information about the code page and the byte sequence if the internal table was created through a code page conversion using gui_convert_codepage and it is of type hexadecimal with a length of at most 1023 bytes.
    1)Have a separate internal table for your structure and pass this internal table data to FM 'GUI_DOWNLOAD'.
    2)Have a second internal table which holds your data and use FM 'GUI_DOWNLOAD' with Importing parameter APPEND as 'X' with the same FILENAME which you used in first GUI_DOWNLOAD function module.
    Thanks,
    Vinay
