Jumpy cursor/screen - everything the pointer passes over reacts

Using my Magic Mouse, the cursor is just jumping all over the place.  Everything the pointer passes over opens or reacts - without clicking on any of it.
When I turned my mouse off the trackpad was barely responsive.  Then I turned my mouse back on and in the control panel clicked on "ignore trackpad when mouse or external trackpad is connected", and it seems to be working fine.
Is there something wrong with my trackpad?  If so - is there a fix I can do?  It is clean, and not that it matters, but I almost NEVER use it!

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • Why is my trackpad clicking on everything that I pass over?

I've been having some difficulty using my MacBook Pro lately. The trackpad is acting up. It's being extremely sensitive. When I am trying to navigate on my computer, it is very difficult for me to click on things, let a alone get to the thing I want to click on because as I move my mouse across the screen, it clicks on everything that it passes over. I have shut down my Pro, and nothing seemed fishy in system preferences!
I must report that the trackpad's clicks aren't as audible, maybe it's sunk lower?
Is this a physical problem or...software?
    Thanks!

  • Cursor moves when in tablet mode (screen touching the pointing stick on an X220T)

    Hi there,
when I put my X220T in tablet mode, the screen moves just enough to move the pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard to cause the cursor to move. I can't rest my hand on the screen without causing the cursor to move all the way accross the screen.
Am I missing a driver that would disable the nub when the screen is turned over it, or is this a design oversight? I've got the latest BIOS.
    Cheers,

  • Can I Change How The Pointer Appears Over A Link?

Is there a way to change my pointer so that it doesn't change to the little pointer finger when it goes over a link? I have a larger pointer and it shrinks back down to the teeny hand when I'm on the web. It drives me nuts.
Also, I'm still using 10.3.9, but I was hoping there was some way for me to change it. Is there a preference pain or something?
    Thanks!

In Tiger, the Universal preference panel>Mouse - at the bottom - "difficulty in seeing a mouse" gives the option of making the pointer larger. When I tried it, i.e. move the slider to the right, the pointer did not reduce in size when I moved over a link in Safari. Not sure if the same feature is offered in Panther.
    Hope this helps.

  • Change Screen Resolution = Mouse Pointer Disappears!

I am just moving to Arch from Ubuntu which i have used for several years. I am not a novice to linux, but I certainly don't know everything!
I installed arch on my pc last night, an old athlon xp with a radeon 9700 pro. I was going to try out KDE so I followed the beginners guide and successfully set it up. It booted and all was fine. Well except it set my resolution to 1024x768 and I wanted it at 1280x1024 which the monitor handles and is what I used in Ubuntu. So I opened the utility in KDE, based on xrandr I believe, and saw the 1280x1024 resolution. I selected it and Applied and the pointer disappeared. I could move my mouse and see the effects of the pointer hovering over buttons and other fields. So I managed to restart the machine thinking that would fix it, nope, still no dice. So I reverted to 1024x768 and all is good, except I would like to get more on my screen....
Also since I am more familiar with Gnome I thought I would remove kde and install gnome hoping it may make a difference. I successfully removed KDE and installed Gnome, went to change the resolution and had the same problem.
I am not sure what other pertinent information I can give. I will do my best to feed information to get this working. Thanks in advance.
    Dave

Same problem,  in a PC Atom N230 with Intel Chip 950, in new fresh Archlinux installation, but with last Gnome. After this, i have installed KDEmod 4.3.3 and the cursor show fine, only in Gnome cursor not show.
    Any idea?
Edit:  Oh, there are other post about this mouse cursor bug, sorry:

  • When I open a drop down menu from the tool bar, and move the pointer down the list of choices, they become constantly "darkly highlighted" and the typefaces change to black making them unreadable.

As the pointer is moved down the list of choices in a drop down box, once the pointer passes each choice, that choice becomes constantly “darkly highlighted” and the type face of that choice turns black. So, as the pointer moves down the list of choices all of the choices become a block of darkly highlighted black text, making it impossible to read the choices which were passed over by the pointer.
It is though the HTML, JavaScript or Java attribute of ''*<code>onMouseover</code>'' is missing the attribute of ''*<code> onMouseout</code>'', thereby when the user moves the pointer off the boundaries of the element, that element retains the CSS given it by the''*<code> onMouseover</code>''

I should probably add that i am working in asp!

  • Solid blue screen - is the computer dead?

My 2004 iMac has been a champ.  But it would not reboot yesterday -   I get a solid blue screen with the pointer .......pointer works - nothing else loads.  Is this the end for my iMac?

Do you hear a chime when it starts up?  Have you tried booting from the install disc and running
    Disk Utility
       1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
       3. Click the First Aid tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
And run the Apple Hardware test that came with your machine install discs as well.

  • After moving and resizing control, some controls don't redraw properly as the cursor passes over them.

I have a top-level VI with three panes (two splitters).  One of the panes contains nested tab controls.  One of the tab pages contains six XY-graphs, a table and some decorations.
I use a subVI to resize and relocate the tabs and contained controls.  All this is working fine, and everything looks fine after the resizing is complete.
The problem is when the cursor passes over certain controls (the chart legends and the table column headers for example), they redraw with gray boxes.  The problem only occurs after enlarging the window from its minimum size.  It goes away if the window is resized back down to minimum.
Anything that causes the window to redraw, like another resize or minimize/restore, properly refreshes the screen.
Has anyone seen this problem, and have a workaround?
The problem exists in development environment or built in LV 9.01 or LV 2010.
    Thanks!

Thanks again for taking a look at my problem.
force redraw - This is apparently only available in LV2010.  I did give at a try, but it did not prevent the problem, nor did it correct the problem once the gray boxes appeared.
disable updates (on a graph) - This apparently only applies to 3-D graphs, which is not what I am using in this case.
disable front panel updates - I tried disabling updates before moving/resizing the front panel controls, then re-enabling updates afterwards.  The problem is exactly the same as before.  Once the move/resize is complete, passing the mouse over the table column headers or the graph plot legend results in the gray boxes.
I would appreciate any other suggestions you may have.
Again... the problem is not that the moving and resizing don't work.  They work fine.  But once the resizing is complete, passing the mouse over the legend or table column headers causes gray boxes to appear.
    Thanks!

    Hi s,
First try a PRAM Reset: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
If no luck, try an SMC Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
In some cases, the battery can interfere with a cable between it and the inside of the MBP, causing keyboard and/or trackpad issues. Shut down the MBP, disconnect the power adapter, remove the battery, take a piece of something semi-soft (like a paper napkin foldedover a couple times), place it over the cable you see in the battery compartment, and tape it down. Replace the battery and see how things go. If this works, you'll eventually want to replace the keyboard/trackpad cable (about $25 if you can do the work yourself). Note that if you go to a repair shop, they usually want to replace the entire top case assembly, which is much more costly.
If the issue persists, shut down, disconnect the power adapter, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, boot the MBP and see if the issue persists without the battery in place (but remember to save a lot, because if the power adapter gets pulled out the MBP will immediately shut down and any unsaved work will be lost).
Also look at the battery to see if it has any signs of deformity/bulging, in which case do not use it again (it may be pushing on the keyboard/trackpad cable and causing the issue); it must be replaced.
First off Sir or lady tjk, I do a PRAM reset weekly and it's never fixed diddly for this issue, I'm sorry to report. The cursor going awry usually happens in Mail when composing or replying to emails, so I wondered if Mail was corrupted, but alas, no. Still happens.
Upon inspecting the battery and the compartment, both appear normal. No bulging or binding either (a brazzier reference).
I did the SMC reset before I read your post, but apparently not to Apple's spec so will try it again. Then will see what's up doc.

  • G570 opening anything Cursor passes over

I need help.  My wife's Corei3, Win8  based, G570 has begun to act erratically.  The system will open every app or program that the cursor passes over and will not access the far right or left screen options to allow me to shut it down.  I eventually have to remove the battery in order to shut it off.  It is unusable in this condition.  If you allow the cursor to stay on one icon it will continue to open that application until you move it.
I have run Malwarebytes, AdAware, Spybot S&D and have Norton 360 installed and operating.  I thought it may have had something to do with one of the Facebook game apps that she'd been playing.  This had happened before and I ran the above programs and it pointed to Facebook as the problem.  This time, it hasn't found anything.  I can't get into the Control panel to get into the area to unistall programs.  I was kinda wondering if it could be an issue with the Macromedia Flash.
Any ideas?  Could this be a hardware issue or a driver issue with the touchpad?
    Thanks

    hi johnmcd348,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
If you have Windows 7, try to:
    1. Boot into Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing F8 during startup. If the problem persist,  there's probably a problem with the Touchpad or the Touchpad's left/right clicker.
    2. To isolate the issue, try to remove the Touchpad cable (you need to remove the keyboard first - see page 47 of the hardware maintenance manual on how to remove the keyboard)
    Touchpad Cable:
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
After removing the touchpad cable, put the keyboard back in, power on the PC and use a USB mouse. If everything works ok, you will need to replace the whole Top Cover (keyboard bezel) that includes the touchpad. - part #: 90200980.
    Hope this helps.
