Start the SL installation process. When you see on the display an menu bar on top, click on UTILITIES. From the drop down menu select Disk Utility. Choose Disk Utility>Erase and format the new internal HDD to Mac OS Extended (journaled). The continue the OSX installation.

After the OSX is installed, update SL to 10,68 via Software Update. Then you may reinstall Mavericks.

I have macbook pro mid 2009 with 10.5.8 upgrade as latest. I am planning to install snow leopard on it. However before i do that i will upgrade the hard disk to 500gb and ram to 8 gb. As i never done reinstalling os on mac My question is
Should i install the original os first (which is leopard) and then upgrade it to snow leopard and backup my files from time machine ?
or
Can i just install snow leopard and back up my files from time machine?

My MacBook Pro (mid 2009) screen randomly tinted blue
I opened my laptop a couple days ago after a couple days off, and when the screen lit up it was a tinted blue color. There was no chance of damage in the time that I was not using it. I had upgraded my software a few months ago, so it wasn't a recent software update that turned it blue. I reinstalled the software just in case and it's still blue. I can't correct it with my display settings (as far as I could tell). But everything else on my laptop works fine. Why is it blue tinted and how do I get rid of it?
Here's a weird set of steps that just fixed it for me (Mid-2009 MBP 15" 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 10.9.3). I restarted and tried again and it worked a second time too, so maybe give it a shot. This is exactly as i saw it, so obviously YMMV.
Go to System Preferences > Displays > Color. In my case, the Color LCD profile is completely missing. I think that's the default profile for the built-in display.
Switch back to the Display tab. For Resolution, switch from Best for Display to Scaled, and then change to any other resolution.
Change the Resolution back to Best for Display. Color appears properly for a split second, then back to bluish.
Go back to the Color tab. Select the Color LCD profile, now magically back where it should be. Display should now appear correctly.
This is at least easier than logging back out and in until it works.
It seems to me like there is a failure to load the proper color profile at all upon login, which in my case i suspect is the same problem that's keeping my display mirroring/arrangement preferences from sticking. But this is speculation. If we can figure out what kinds of things cause Displays preferences to be constantly lost/reset, we'll probably be close to the root of the problem. I'll post back here when i have more time to investigate.
I would also note, i see a lot of reports of this that are blamed on the discrete graphics card. As far as i can tell (and with VERY little help from Apple's support docs), the mid-2009 MBP does not have a discrete graphics processor, so i don't think this is the same issue as that, but maybe i'm wrong. In any case, the solutions i see posted always involve preference settings i simply don't have (under Energy Saver, something about graphics performance management). -
My MacBook Pro (mid-2009 5,5) ram accepts 1333GHz when it normally runs 1067GHz ram. Is that normal?
I currently have two 4GB rams in it. When I put one 4GB and one 1GB it says "1067GHz".
When both 4GB are in is says "1333GHz"

i see that i have a problem after installing my new hard drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 version. I put a new hard drive, with all of my information from my old drive installed on it, into the computer. but now have the blinking question mark folder. I see that it means that it isn't reading the new hard drive.
did i miss a step between transferring all of my information from my old hard drive to the new hard drive and installing the new hard drive into the computer. I believe that i installed properly. it was quite easy.
thanks for your helpIt means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
button.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive. -
i just installed yosemite on my mcb pro mid 2012 with a clean install. so i only had the new os x yosemite running on my mac. everything went perfect. than i installed win8.1 with the bootcamp assistant and also everything went perfect.
But here's the Problem:
When i'm using Windows 8.1 and i go to the "Computer" window where i can find my hdd partition "Bootcamp (c;) there is only this Partition. the mac Partition is missing.
so i am not able to read the files on my mac Partition.
Before i installed yosemite and win8.1, i was running mavericks and win7 on my macbook pro and i haven't had this Problem. i was able to see and read my mac Partition also on Windows 8.1???
is there any solution for this Problem???

Hi, I have bought 8GB(2*4GB) ram to install on my macbook pro, when I install both I get a black screen but when installing one or the other with one of the original ram they both work. What can I do to fix this problem??

When you install RAM, reboot your computer with the "D" key held down (or the Option-D keys). These will load the Apple Hardware Tests.
With these tests open, check the box for the extended memory test, and then start the test. This will have the system thoroughly test the RAM for errors.
In your case, it appears you may have a bad set of RAM modules, but you can check them using the method above.
When you have them paired with your original RAM, how much memory does the system report as being available when you select About This Mac in the Apple menu? If you are using Lion or Mountain Lion, then in this panel click "More Info" and then select the "Memory" section, and see what the system reports as being installed.
Is this RAM test necessay with every upgrade of memory or just if you have problems after the upgrade

thank you.The MacBook Pro's take 2.5" SATA hard drives. If you are going to replace the drive, now would be the time to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive; about the largest capacity you will find is 750GB. Also, since this will be your main hard drive, stay away from any green or blue drives; the supposed energy saving features will also reduce performance. May I suggest looking at OWC for their recommendations about hard drives for your specific model MBP.
You install OS X via the recovery DVDs that came with your MBP. One is for OS X, the other contains the Apple applications (iLife, etc). Of course, that will install the version of OS X that originally came with your MBP (a 2009 MBP probably came with Leopard 10.5). If you don't have the recovery DVDs, or want to install a later version of OS X, then I suppose you will need to purchase a Snow Leopard DVD and install that before upgrading to Mt. Lion. -

Apple usually doesn’t sell RAM for older Macs. You’re probably better off buying it from a source such as OWC or Crucial and installing it yourself.
