Just updated. No more (pleasant) sound.

Let me apologize in advance for the lengthy post. I am a new mac convert after 15 years with windows, and have been blissfully satisfied with my new mac, up until an hour ago, haha.
Just intsalled the latest update 10.4.10 and it totally screwed up my sound. Now, I only hear pops, cracks, and a nonstop high pitched tone. I use my mac for a Digital Audio Workstation, and my bills are depending on it!
I'm currently working on a project for a client, scoring a commercial, and now I'm left dead in the water. I've tried re-installing the audio drivers (MOTU 828MKII Firewire Audio Interface) and still the same result.
I'm under the gun for this project, and it seems there is no 'rollback' feature to macs. It looks like I'm left with re-installing the OS from scratch. This does not make me happy. I have a good number of audio applicatons, and numerous plugins for these, basically I will be losing a workday just to get everything back in place.
I know, I should have backed up, I think I kind of took how well everything was working, for granted. Lesson learned, haha.
But if I MUST reinstall the OS, and run an update (as it HAS fixed issues in the past), will it only download the LATEST update (10.4.10 again)?
Will I just have to hold on to my older OSX version, deal with the problems/conflicts, and hope that they fix the audio issue? I would truly dread having to reinstall everything AGAIN if this problem isn't resolved in 10.4.11
I've also contacted MOTU, and no replies yet. Thank you for your time.

No bootable backup/clone? If you had one, you wouldn't be dead in the water. For information on backing up before updating, peruse these
