JVM 1.4.2_03 error no main class found

Hello,
A very strange error encountered "main class not found" on running the application written using JDK 1.4.1_01 on JVM 1.4.2_03 on XP OS. The same application works perfectly well on JVM 1.4.1_01 on XP OS.
The said application has not been modified since six month and has been working in live environment under JVM 1.4.1_01.
Any answer to this.
Thanks
bhbm

Sounds like you're trying to run it from a Jar ?
Eg. java -jar myapp.jar
Trying running "jar -tf myapp.jar" to see if the jar is still valid / not corrupt.
Ensure you use the jar command from 1.4.2_03, to validate whether the jar format, manifest information etc can be read using that version.

Owen

Anyway, I think it might be easier if you do something like this.

}Another point to consider: is Square a special type of Canvas? Class should only extend another class if it makes sense to. ie Corgi wouldn't extend Chair but it would extend Dog.

  • Installing 10g on Windows XP machine JVM launcher "Can't find main class"

I am trying to install 10g Release 2 on a Windows XP machine. I downloaded the zip from the OTN. Unzipped the file. No problems. Tried to run the OUI, it opened up a shell and said to wait. The shell closed and a message frome the JVM Launcher displayed "Can't find main class. Program will exit." I have seen several people on this and other discussion boards having this problem, but have yet to get a solution. Please help.

What's the value of CLASSPATH environment variable? Possibly a non-oracle application has set this variable and the installer catches it. If there is such a variable, comment it out and try again.

  • Could not find the main class?

    I am getting a
Could not find the main class. Program will exit!
Error with 1.3, but its because there is a jar file missing from the class path. The main class is actually there. Took me 1/2 to figure that out. This must be an error in the java command. Anyone else notice this?

    Hi all
I'm stuck in the same thing as well...not only am I having problem with the JAR file I created, I'm also having problem executing other's JAR files..
For example, I created this JAR file with 'Main-Class: PrototypeTest' as it's header but when the JAR file is done and I tried to run it, it simply gives me the No Main Class Found error.
Same thing happens when I downloaded this JAR file game from Virum's website and tries to run it...no can do either...
So wondering...has anyone found the solution to this yet? I'm still looking but it is sure driving me crazy...

  • Jar file error: could not find main class. program will exit

I have created a jar file using following command
    jar cfm MyProj.jar Manifest.txt richa\*.class

    Please help. Its urgent..
    Thanks in advance

This simply state that jvm was unable to fine Main Class file.
I hope you have configured manifest file including your main file information and class path used by the project with proper package hierarchy,

  • Can not start WebLogic in Eclipse. Error: "Could not find the main class."

I have installed Eclipse 2.0 and WebLogic Server 6.1. and the WebLogc plug in from GENUITEC (and jdk1.3.1_04, on Win2K Server). After I have done the configuration, the WebLogic start/stop buttons are integried into the Eclipse Toolbar, but when I click on the start button to start Weblogic, it pops up a dialog box "Java Virtual Machine Launcher" with message: "Could not find the main class. Program will exit!"
Starting WebLogc Server from the Start panel works fine.
Does any one have seen this before or have a suggestion what I should do?
    Many many thanks in advance.

Weblogic must be started with a full JDK; otherwise
JSPs and dynamic EJB stubs could not be deployed. The
    error message
indicates you are attempting to use a JRE. Configure
Eclipse JRE to point to a JDK. The product
documentation will help you with this process. It does not work for me. :-(
I have tried JDK 1.3.1 and 1.4.1: same result: I get a "Could not find the main class: Program will exit"

  • Could not find the main class error with executable jar

    Hello,
I have troubles creating an executable jar file and I ran out of ideas how to solve it so I would appreciate some help.
I have created a jar file with the export function in eclipse
    the Manifest.MF file contains:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
Main-Class: view.AppTennisViewI tried starting the file with a batch file which contains following code:
    @echo off
    javaw -classpath c:\TennisHSQLDB_GC2\tennisApp.jar
    @start javaw -jar tennisApp.jar
exitthe batch file and the jar are both located in c:\TennisHSQLDB_GC2.
When i try command line I get the same result.
I also tried alternate statements such as SET CLASSPATH iso javaw -classpath and including the classpath in the manifest file but no luck. It keeps given me the error: could not find the main class. program will exit
Anyone any suggestions for my problem?

    nevermind, found it.
    classpath in manifest was incorrect

please someone do help me out i m in a great fix,
    thanks in advance..,

at last managed to run the program in stand alone mode without eclipse [:)]
the problem was that for swt there is a need of a dll file,
you can get that file from the swt jar that you are using in your application and place it in the root directory of the project, test it by running your app from your eclipse ide as a java application but not as an swt application,
the dll file should look like: swt-win32-3138.dll the version no. may vary,
if the app works fine then go to the next step,
create a META-INF folder in your root directory and place your MANIFEST.MF in it, now one more imp part comes here
give your class path before the main class or else it will remove the class path line when the jar will be created.
if your main class is in some package and thats why giving you a problem then create a simple class in the default package something as launch and call the main method of your entry class from it, the launch class will also be created in the root directory
now the last thing while giving the path where the jar have to be created give the root directory path only and use the manifest that we created and dont use the generate manifest option
now after doing all this double click the jar file and your app will run
P.S. this is not the full way but i have only mentioned the critical part where basically i stuck, so follow these steps and also refer to some other tutorial where there is the full method
    http://www.devx.com/Java/Article/30287/1954?pf=true
refer to this link also you will understand everything,

  • "Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute" error message !

    Hello
I am trying to download a library to use with my applets.
    (objectdraw.jar)
After I download it, I try to open it ( double click on it) and it says
"Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from
    C:\2_jbproject\objectdraw.jar
I need to open it in order to use it with my applets .
What do I need to do ?
    Thank you in advance

    cannot find symbol constructor
Sun(objectdraw.DrawingCanvas)Isn't Sun your class? If so (unless BlueJs error messages are confusing) it sounds like your Sun class does not have a constructor with the signature you are using.
I'm not familiar with BlueJ, but hopefully it ignores the classpath environment variable (though your error message lead me to belive otherwise). Regardless, this is a bad way to use classpath as it can lead to confusing problems down the road.
The objectdraw library is there but maybe I have to open or extract itfor it to be seen. But how ?
No you don't have to extract it, thats the whole point behind a jar. What you do have to do is ensure it is on the classpath for both compilation and execution. For compilation, read the help/documentation for BlueJ. For applet deployment, refer to the java tutorial section on applets and pay close attention to the applet tag description, especially the comma delimited archive attribute.
    Good luck

    Hi
When I tried running the examples from the SUN JMS tutorials, I landed in a problem. I did the following changes...

I have the same error when I try to run the client application in the Sun Platform 9.0 Application Server's AppClient Module container , "...
