K8MM ILSR + Athlon 64 3000 : wong temperature after restart

Hello,
I have just installed a K8MM ILSR.
Starting with a cold system, CPU temperature is around 40°C after one hour of normal use.
If I restart the computer, the temperature is immediately at  50°C and stay stable.
    1 - which temp is the right one (40 or 50°C) ?
2 - the BIOS release is 3.4, is this problem solved in the new release 3.7?
Thanks for your help

Are you using any USB devices? Might sound strange, but on some systems USB devices affect the temp sensors in some strange way. When I power on my USB HDD, my temp shoots up a few degrees Celsius. Switching off the drive doesn't help, temps go back to normal after a reboot. Same thing on three different systems (all MSI boards)...

  • MSI-6741 v1 (K8MM-ILSR) with Athlon Mobile 64 3000+

I just bought a new motherboard and cpu for my HTPC project this week, and started to make some test.
I found out that the new via K8M800 was a good choice for Athlon 64, so I jumped on the new  K8MM-ILSR board.  Like all of us wanting to build a noise less HTPC, I decided to take the mobile version of the Athlon.  According to the specs of AMD, it shouldn't be different (except core voltage and heat) compare to the "normal" version.
Well, that s the theory!  When I assembled the motherboard and the CPU, I was supprised to see the MB doesn't recognised correctly the CPU.  Well at start-up , it sees the CPU Model as an Athlon 64 Mobile 3000+ , but that 's it.
In the BiOs (upgraded to the latest version 3.6), the DDR speed isn't well detected -> DDR200 instead of DDR400 (Corsair DDR400), and the CPU speed is "blocked" to 800Mhz with a multiplier of 4x when I check with CPUID in windows XP.
I forgot to mention, to be able to boot the system, I had to reduce the Hypertransport speed to 600Mhz , instead of 800Mhz in the BIOS.
At the end, in Windows XP, I see that non of the specs are the right one:
-> VCore is 1.088v (!) -> Yes great undervolting, if the CPU speed was correct
-> CPU Speed is 800Mhz ( with or without Cool'n'Quiet activated in the BIOS)
    -> HT speed is 600Mhz
So, I was surprise to not be able to change anything in the BioS (!?!?), I cannot change the Vcore , CPU speed, multiplier in this BioS ... only the FSB is allowed.   Well, that s a little bit disapointing for a MB which is supposed to support overclocking.
Sooooo, anyone got tip to make this MB detecting correctly the Athlon Mobile?  Is there anyone of MSI who can give a status about the support for this kind of CPU?  What's wrong with the detection?
    Thanks.

As far as your ram is concerned, it could be that your motherboard posts reading show Frequency reading of your ram and not its rating. PC 3200 or DDR400 is
200mhz X 2. So if its showing 200mhz that may not be wrong. use Otherwise change the speed in the Bios to DDR400.
To check to see if its reading correctly even at 200mhz. Use Everest or CPU-Z to detect what speed it is running at. If it reads as PC3200 then your fine.
CPU-Z is also another good tool to see whats up with your processor.
I do not know much about DTR Athlon Processors. Wish I could help you more here. My friends Notebook 3000+ runs at 700mhz when battery life is low! That is all I know! Could yet be another bios config.
You will never be able to directly overclock a processor or change a CPU clock speed. Only indirectly by upping the FSB.

Actually the FSB is how you overclock, or the multi. Changing your FSB will overclock your CPU. That is how you typically overclocl, unless you are changing multipliers as well.
    Multi * FSB = Clockspeed
Regular athlon 64's have a FSB of 200.
I hope this is a start to help ya out. At least untill someone more knowledgable shows up!

  • K8MM-ILSR

I have a boot problem ..I just built this machine and ( MSI K8mm-ILSR system)
    Sometimes it will not boot.
It hangs up on the Floppy A drive and keeps trying it .
    Boot order set as :
    Floppy A
    CD Rom
    Hard drive.
If I disable Floppy seek in the BIOS it still does the same thing.
I tried a different cable and then a different Floppy.
    Same Problem
    Any Ideas?
The machine is an Athlon 64  3000+

  • K8MM-ILSR PROBLEM with ATI Radeon 9550 of 256MB AGP port 8X...

Hello, I have a  motherboard MSI-K8MM-ILSR, when use the onboard video card works correctly, but the problem begins when I install a ATI Radeon 9550 of 256MB, is AGP port 8X and has its dissipator, in other machines it works well and your temperature is ok. My monitor is Samsung Sync Master 793s at 75 Hz. The Problem is the following: the machine crash and the video is distorted and it is congealed, this happens after playing a little, the video card drivers are updated (Catalyst 5,6), I'm use Windows XP Service Pack 1, Thanks... and excuse me my English...

Some other options you can try:
    - uninstall the previous vid-drivers and use driver cleaner software to uninstall everything
    - disable onboard video in the BIOS;
    - set fastwrite to disabled/no (if it's there)
    - set AGP Aperture Size to 128 (if it doesn't do anything, go to 64);
    - set AGP port to 4x.
    - Start hoping  .... good luck!
(BTW, the last two options may cause your system to operate slightly slower, but it's hardly worth mentioning ... )

  • KT4V turns power off at 55°C with Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333

    Hi there,
I installed a brand new Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333 this week on my MSI KT4V, with a ICE SP-A03 CPU fan. It runs at 48°C when idle, and when CPU load increases with high consumption softwares it goes slowly to 55°C then ... Powers off abruptely !
This behaviour is steady and reproducible using BurnK7.exe. The threshold is always the same : 55°C.
This temperature range is definitely normal for AXP3000+. So far, I did not find any Bios parameter or mainboard switch able to leverage this threshold.
How can I fix this problem ?
    Thanks for help,
    Additional info:
    motherboard : MSI KT4V (chipset KT400)
    Amibios latest level : MS-6712 V1.C
Processor Athlon XP Barton 3000+ FSB 333
    CPU fan : ICE SP-A03
    No overclocking

When changing processor you should clear CMOS.
    When seating it one should:
    - power off and unplug
    - take mobo out
    - remove the old heat sink and processor
    - after placing the processor in...
    - make a "virtual" seating of the heat sink, so it'll fit the socket good, with heel
    - then remove the protective plastic in this case, or put on thermal grease, and place the heat sink.
Time taken when seating the processor, is time saved for the future. Do it good better than quick. The paste wont dry up, and if it doesn't get dirty there is no rush.

  • K8MM-ILSR: Unknown CPU & Audio

    Hello,
I have an K8MM-ILSR motherbord. I installed a Sempron 2600+. The BIOS reports Unknown CPU. Why is that?
Also I have installed the front audio headers from my case. When I plug in a headset in the front ports, the rear speakers are still active. With the same case and a different motherbord when I plug in the front ports the rear speakers turn off.
How can I get the rear speakers to turn off when I'm using front audio?
    Thanks

    Hi!
    I bought a K8MM-ILSR mainboard and a AMD Semperon 64 2800+ E6-Stepping CPU.
After Installation the BIOS as well as Windows XP tells me, that I am running an unknown AMD CPU. Having browsed through the global MSI-webpages, I had to find out that the latest E6-stepping of the Semperon 64 processor is not supported by the BIOS. This is a major hassle as I am unable to use the Cool 'n Quiet feature among other things thus giving me fans at full speed and a system which is always on full power.
I have already installed the latest AMD K8 Driver and the latest C'nQ-Software, nonetheless these software parts are not helping.
Can you please release a BIOS update for this particular mainboard as I would like to keep my CPU and have it fully supported. Thanks you very much in advance.

  • K8T Neo 2 + Athlon 64 3000+ = freezing system

    Hi all.
I have MSI K8T Neo 2 with Amd Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 in it.
My specs are in signature... Ram's are in dimm1(green) and
dimm3(purple) = dual chanell. My PSU is 300W(is that enough?).
I have stock bios(have no idea what version).
Problem is, that when I click on an .avi file, system freeze.
Same thing when I try to install some software, it is installing and when
it's finalizing the installation, system freeze. Same thing when I run some pages
in Internet Explorer, system freeze. I tried once to run dxdiag, system freeze.
I even tried to download the latest bios via live update, but guess what, system
    froze.
I am so mad, I invested in socket 939 for dual chanell, 1000Mhz FSB and FX
processors support and I even can run a single game...
    Please help.

  • Athlon XP 3000+ and MSI KT4Ultra problem!!!

I recently bought an Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333 and I installed it on my old main board a KT4 Ultra bios 1.4.
The problem is that the processor is not detected correctly.
The multiplier is detected as only 10.5 and if I set the FSB to 166 the system shuts down without any working at random intervals.
If I set the FSB to 133 the computer works.
    Can someone help me?

Please compare the numbers printed on the cpu:
    AXDA3000DKV4D would be 333MHz
    AXDA3000DKV4E would be 400MHz

The CPU temperature is around 45-50 degrees
At fsb133? So at fsb166 you could expect temps > 60°C.
Furthermore there can be hotspots on the die if the surface isn't covered complete with a thin film of thermal grease. This hotspots cannot be recognized by the temp diode but causes the cpu to shut down.

  • High temperature after suspend to RAM with linux-3.9.2-1.

After the update to linux-3.9.2-1 my laptop works on higher temperature after resuming from suspend to RAM. Works fine with linux 3.8.7-1.
Normal working temperature is 47~49 degrees Celsius and after resuming it is 59~61. It's not just a false temperature reading. I can actually feel the laptop warmer, and the CPU fun spins up.
I can't see any CPU high load. I tend to believe that the temperature rise has to do with the Intel GPU driver (i915). My CPU has an integrated GPU.
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    cmdline:
    i915.semaphores=1 i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 aspm_force=true acpi_backlight=vendor intel_pstate=disable
    Anyone noticed something similar?
Ways to debug it? Apart from kernel GIT bisect.

I got the impression myself, that all the i915 downclock tweaks have been getting counterproductive over time as the driver got better.
Be sure to give the new pstate another go. I had problems too with the upgrade to 3.9.x and the powersave governor. Enabling "performance" in cpupower only and letting intel_pstate manage the idling on its own had an awesome effect. I only have rc6=1 and "sna" accel along with it on a similar cpu. Resuming with fan off.

  • Is this normal temperatures after 1 minute of gaming?

Hi HP. I just want to know if this is normal temperatures after about 1 minute of gaming?

    Hmmm that is odd.
I'll check my system for the speed of the GPU, but I believe it's ramping up.
Worst case is that the thermals are a bit off inside the system.
This could be a screw being a bit loose or missing altogether. (I'm sure the thermal grease is fine as that isn't done by hand. )
You can check this yourself, but the main problem is the rubber foot. Once it's off, it's not easy to get back on.

  • Why doesn't MBP return to its normal temperature after I turn off a heavy program?

Hello there, I've noticed that my new MacBook Pro runs at a very cool temperature while browsing websites and doing general activities.  After I open up one of my work programs such as After Effects, Nuke, Maya, it will start up to heat up considerably on the left top corner, which is to my expectations.  Now the problem here is that it does not cool down to its normal temperature after I have shut down all my work programs, the temperature remains as high as if the programs were still open and occupying CPU.  Can someone help me with this problem before I take my MBP to a Apple Store for a fix?
    Thanks lots!

You likely have a run away process from one of your third party programs that is not exiting or quitting, therefore hogging CPU cycles.
To determine this, reboot the machine, open your Activity Monitor and click "all processes" and sort by clicking on "CPU" this will make the processes taking the most cycles pop to the top.
now open your third party programs one at a time and get familiar with their processes, when you find the one process that appeared and taking huge CPU even after you've quit the program you have found your source.
Update this program or contact the developer for a explanation.
sometimes it will be a Apple process, which a OS X Overwrite should hopefully fix

  • K8MM-ILSR 1920x1200 supported?

I upgraded the PC of my father in law with a Dell U2410 1920x1200 monitor.
The system uses onboard video of the MSI mainboard K8MM-ILSR with VIA® K8M800 Chipset.
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=601
The videopart is called VIA Unichrome Pro IGP.
Max what I get now is 4:3 1600x1200. No wide resolutions at all.
Before I flash the board with latest BIOS, does the board support 1920x1200 or any wide resolution?

Sorry that board is too old, if it doesn't with the latest drivers it will never do it with the onboard.
VIA stopped making chipsets a long time ago, so don't expect them to fix it.
Put a ATI 9550 AGP or so in it and it will work just fine.
