K8N Diamond reboots after shutdown :censored:?

I hope others are experiencing this too, I'd hate to be alone! Almost everytime I shutdown my PC after about 3-5 seconds it reboots by itself. Is this a known prolbem?

amt, I have a Neo4 Plat which is a different board but had a similar experience after I installed my Opty 165 but was also dealing with SATA II problems and it puzzeled my on what was going on. I had a problem with bios not recognizing the Opty which I fixed with a MurdocK modded bios and got firmware upgraded on Seagate SATA II- then end result was that it went away during this process but it is still a mystery Hope you can figure yours out. I had to hold power button down for a couple of extra seconds after it shut down or it would magicly spring back to life.

  • Toshiba A300D rebooting after shutdown

    Hi !
    I've a bit problem.
    When i shutdown my toshiba, it reboots after 10 minutes. It's very annoying, if i forgot to remove the batteries, he is overheating in my bag until i realize it is on.
    Someone on the ubuntu forum have had the same problem :
    http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.p … 73326.html
    But his fix does not work for me...
    IMPORTANT: i'm still trying, but I suspect that after completing the procedure, turning off the pc will not work properly anymore: infact the pc STARTS UP AUTOMATICALLY AFTER SOME MINUTES!!! :lolflag:
    NEWS: the computer after installing bluetooth when is turned off, automatically powers up after a random time: the solution for this is to write acpi_osi="Linux" next to kernel boot parameters in /boot/grub/menu.lst
    I added acpi_osi="Linux", but it didn't worked...
    If you have any solution, or any workaround, please help me...
    Thanks in advance.

  • Neo4 - reboots after shutdown ***Fixed***

    I've had this problem since I put my comp together.  When I shut down windows the computer shuts down normally, but then after a few seconds or sometimes right away, the system reboots...  I have to switch off the power supply to shut it down permanently.
    I've tried reversing the plugs from the power switch to the motherboard, but it doesn't help.
    It is getting a bit annoying and I'm wondering if there might be some other cause that I have not thought about?

       I really thought you had this checked before .

    Spontanious startups is usually caused by the PSU ( if there is not a wakeup event triggering it).
    It can also be a service or driver that crash during the shutdown , forcing the system to reboot instead if automatic restart is enabled in windows,
    Honor to Fredik for hitting it right on the spot .

  • *UPDATED* K8N Diamond Plus X16 Shutdown\restart delays

    First off, I'd like to take a moment to pat everybody who helps out on this forum, and that you do a wonderful service to the pc community.
    My system specs. are below for reference.
    I have recently been experiencing shutdown\restart delays with my computer.  I'm pretty sure it started after I replace my 7900GT with a 7900GTX through an RMA.
    The issue is that now when I shutdown or restart the computer, it hangs.  Windows has shut down, the mouse shuts down, the monitor turns to low power mode, but the pc just sits there for a good 15-20 seconds in this state, then shuts off or restarts (whichever I chose it to do).  I have taken everything out and reseated, including all connections and such.  More recently I have again removed all cards, ram and psu, and vacuumed out the case, also opened the psu and cleaned that out too).  Put it all back together, and works fine still except the problem is still there.  Other then that, the computer pretty well works fine and dandy.  Play games ok (BF2, BF2142, etc...), video editing\encoding (2 or 3 at the same time), CD to MP3 ripping, and all other operations work without a hitch.  Voltage levels seem ok in the bios and through Everest Ultimate Edition 2006.  I can give specs. from these on request.  I've made sure all drivers are up to date.  Checked bios settings, reset bios settings.  Disabled any option for power savings, including wake on lan.  Problem still lingers.  Any other suggestions?   Thanks in advanced!

    Ok, tests are in.  Since I have no idea what I'm doing with the mem timings, I set them all to auto.  4@333 = no difference.  1@400 = no difference.  I didn't see a point in trying 2 modules, as I don't see it making any difference at this point.

    The windows disk I have is a slipstreamed disk.  I have slipped sp2, and several drivers including my raid drivers, video, motherboard, and I think that's it.  I can, if I really think I need to, install just an sp2 version of windows, and then go from there on my 160GB drive.  In the process, I would disconnect every other drive excluding the dvd drive.  Just to eliminate them from the equation.  Not now, but perhaps on the weekend or whatever.

  • Z77A-G43 Computer Reboots after Shutdown Issue

    I recently built a new PC using the MSI Z77A-G43 motherboard and installed Windows 7. Everything seems to work fine except one thing - the PC immediately restarts itself after It shuts down through the normal Windows shutdown process. I have read many forums on this similar problem and have tried a few things such as 1) unchecking automatic restart in the system properties dialog box. 2) Changing the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon "PowerdownAfterShutdown" to a '1'. 3) Updated Windows fully as well as installed the latest drivers for everything. 4) Made sure that in BIOS all of the Wake Up Events are set to Disabled. In fact I even changed Wake Up Event By [BIOS] to By [OS]. 5) Cleared BIOS by taking the battery out for 5 minutes, as well as updating BIOS to the latest version 2.2. 5) The only IO card is the graphics card and I switched that out too and it did not make a difference. None of these options seems to correct the problem. I am convinced there is something wrong with this motherboard. Has anyone else had this issue with this or another motherboard? Anyone have any other solutions?

    Sometimes a short within the chassis can caused such issue as well.
    I suggest that you try booting and shutting down the hardware out of the chassis and see if you can replicate the issue.

  • K8N Diamond - Bluescreen after Win XP (SP1) Install

    Hi.  After building my system today I installed Win XP (SP1).  The pre-install and graphical install went fine with no errors.  On the first boot after the install, the Win XP logo appears for 5 seconds, there is then a quick flash of bluescreen then the system resets.  The system is booting off of an Adaptec 29160 SCSI Controller with SCSI HDs.  IDE is enabled in the bios for DVD & DVD Writer and the SATA controller is disabled in the bios.  I did not use the Nvidia or Silicom SATA drivers during the initial OS install since I had disabled the onboard SATA/RAID controllers.
    If I boot the system and boot into safe mode rather than normal I can get into Windows but there isn't any decent logs so far to go on without some additional work.
    Is there something I've missed out ?  I've done a quick search but couldn't find any related posts on the forum.  I've listed my spec below.
    Thanks for any help.
    KN8 Diamond
    2 x 512MB Dual Channel EL PC-3200 OCZ Platinum Rev2
    OCZ Powerstream 600W PSU
    Adaptec 29160 Raid Controller
    Gainward 6800 Ultra Golden Sample
    Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro

    Hi.  I'm just going to start removing/moving hardware and carry out more testing, but I've booted into safe mode and justed the error settings so that I can actually read the error.   The Windows stop error is 0x0000009C MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.  I've just completed a MEM86 test and had no errors on the 2 x 512 Sticks.
    I'll adjust some of the hardware and if that doesn't make any different the only bits it leaves are the CPU and motherboard.
    Thanks again.

  • K8N Diamond: Can't Shutdown, restarts instead

    Hi everyone,
    I need your help. Recently, my comp has been acting very weird.
    Everytime I try to shutdown, it restarts instead.
    I have to resort to the power button to really turn off the comp.
    Is there anything I can do?
    My specs are on my sig (I don't know my bios version, how do I check?)
    thanks,
    gildan2020

    Thanks guys, it worked.
    The Wake On LAN bios setting was already disabled when I check it.
    But it was the Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller properties that is still enabled.
    Now I have disabled both Marvell and NVIDIA (just to be safe) and everything seems alright again.
    Anyway, if this occurs again, I'll let you guys know.
    thx,

  • ProBook 4430 reboots after shutdown and when power is removed.

    I have a probook 4430 sitting on my desk and whenever I shut down the notebook just boots itself back up. It will power itself on when you insert the battery and also if you do get it to fully shut down and remove the power coord then it boots itself back on(with battery ofcourse). There were no hardware/software changes. I have double checked my connections to the board and everything appears in order. I changed out the power/wifi button assembly as well as the DC power jack also. Any suggestions would be much welcomed I'm banging my head against the wall here.

    If you click on the Apple menu's, "About This Mac," and then click on "System Report....," it will give a battery condition report. Best guess, as stated by Kappy, is that the battery needs to be replaced.
    If he bought in the summer of 2014, it should still be under warranty.

  • K8N Diamond Plus shutdown issue

    I am running the K8N Diamond Plus with bios 1.2
    3500+ <stock ghz>
    2x1gb corsair
    1 74gb raptor
    1 7900GT 256
    2 samsung dvd burners
    OCZ520ADJSLI powersupply
    2 case fans
    Recently, my powersupply went out and i ordered a new one.. same model...when i hooked it up and turned on the computer, Windows loaded, i logged and shortly after i logged in, the computer shutdown... like, no blue screen, no reboot... it just turned off like it was shuttingdown or someone pulled the power cord.
    confused, i hit the power button and the computer turned back on, but this time, it barely made it to the login screen and it shut off again.. each time, i would turn it on, it would shut off sooner than the previsous time.  so i stripped everything out.. no fans, no hd, do dvds, different ram, same cpu, same vid card.  This time i just booted to the bios.  at 30 seconds it turned off. i turned it back on. at 23 seconds it shut off, i turned it back on. at 15 seconds it shut off, i turned it back on... it got to the point that as soon as i would hit the power button, it would shut off...
    thinking that i could of possible received a bad power supply, i hooked it up to a different mother board.  this system did not shut off.
    any ideas on what could be going on?  unfortunatly at this time i do not have another power supply to test on this board. I will pick one up if people think the power supply could be the problem.
    thanks in advance!!

    hello, sound like a bad new psu to me did you plug in both mobo connectors? do you have a volt meter to ck psu outputs might try that. another psu would be the next thing to try.  good luck Henry

  • Toggle Full Keyboard Access is Not Working after Shutdown/Reboot

    Hi,
    I'm yet another keyboard maniac and somehow as above subject was keep re-occured every time after enabled it, I've turn it on full keyboard access in system preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts. All seemed to be good before I shutdown or reboot my macbook pro. I could access all the dialogs and windows. After a reboot or shutdown, all the dialogs from any other apps can still be accessed via keyboard except one single window, the shutdown window (both from hitting apple->shutdown and control+eject.) I have to toggle control+f1 or control+f7 every freaking time in order to enabled keyboard access to shutdown/reboot. I've tried "defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode" in terminal and it returned 3 which is "Full Keyboard Access ON and All controls" even after a fresh reboot:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    3
    +++++++++
    But when I'm using sudoer to check the result was set to "0" means disable:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ sudo defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    Password:
    0
    +++++++++
    So what I do for the workaround/fix is by the set value to enabled it using root access level or sudoer:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ sudo defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleKeyboardUIMode -int 3
    +++++++++
    Once done do reboot your Mac & check the result in Terminal should shows as below:-
    +++++++++
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ sudo defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    3
    =========
    Ben-MacOSX:~ Ben$ defaults read -g AppleKeyboardUIMode
    3
    +++++++++
    So it's fixed for my issue. If anyone have better suggestion or the proper method please share.
    Thanks in advance.

  • 10.5.2 Feature causes machine to shutdown upon reboot after upgrade.

    After upgrading to 10.5.2, the machine reboots, then after
    a lengthy spinny gear on the up swing, it promptly turns itself off. Boot up several
    times, same result. Boot into single user mode, run fsck, after clearing
    the boot disk, fsck gives me an error of some non existent drive. New in 10.5.2:
    "the computer will now shut down if an automatic disk repair does not succeed during startup."
    Turns out i had an old entry in the /etc/fstab file ... silly me.
    Anyway just passin that one on for all other forgetful folks.
    -miles

    OK,
    I at least got the repair to work and it said there were no problems. I remember when I was waiting for the reboot after the 10.5.2 install that the fans went all crazy in my iMac and then settled down. I remember an issue a while back where this happened and it was because of the SMU... or System Management Unit. In older Macs it is called the PMU (Power Management Unit) so do a search for that if SMU doesn't bring anything up.
    Resetting this usually resolves power related issues.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733
    The above link describes how to do it on the iMac G5... you may need to do a search in Apple Support for your particular Mac. Be sure to use the search field on the left of the screen, not in the Apple.com navigation bar at the top right.
    Did you also try resetting your PRAM? You do that by restarting (or starting) the Mac. Press and hold CommandOption+PR all at the same time. Keep them held down until the computer restarts again. I just did this (and still haven't reset my SMU) and the Mac has not shutdown on me yet.
    If it does start to shutdown randomly again I will reset the SMU and let you know how it goes.
    Good Luck!!
    Jon

  • CPU Usage 100%? K8N Diamond Plus

    Never before have I witnessed the CPU being used at it's absolute maximum.  It has been occuring regularily with my system.  I noticed it first when my screen saver started getting jittery.  This seems to occur most often about 1-2 minutes after windows finishes loading.  It seems kind of odd to me that this occurs during typically idle system times.  The memory usage also dramatically rises during these spikes, using ctrl+alt+delete I noticed svchost.exe to be the culprit of the memory usage atleast.  The hard drive doesn't appear to be active when these events occur.  Is this normal for this motherboard, or is this something that should be corrected?
    I've always had 3 short beeps upon startup with this board, but it has never stalled the boot process.  Anyone know what this means?
    I've upgraded my board somewhat recently and carried over the CPU and memory from a older MSI model that used the same type.  Could it be possible either or both are incompatible?
    Also one, somewhat less important problem.  First off I must say that the PS/2 power on feature is pretty cool.  I used it with a wireless keyboard so I could turn on my PC from my living room HDTV (I have my comp wired through Y/Pr/Pb cables).  Only problem is about one in every 4 or so shutdowns the system restarts immediatly when this feature is selected in the bios.  Bios issue maybe?

    get Process Explorer to determinate in details what make this CPU usage: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
    it has more detailed information than the built-in task manager.

  • K8N Diamond - SLI woes - I am almost ready to scrap it ALL! DESPERATE!!

    OK - story, brothers pc that I built for him almost a year ago, couple of months after the build, purchased another 6600GT to fill the second slot (both MSI 6600GTs) worked a treat, SLI, boom boom, no dramas. The card was removed from the system (borrowed) a couple of months later to fit to another system as a test card, and he was without it for a couple of months and just running the one 6600GT again. Since then the card has been returned to his system, but I can't for the life of me get the freaking SLI to work again
    System-
    MSI K8N Diamond
    Athlon 3200
    MSI 6600GT x 2
    2 x 512mb PC3200 PQI
    1 x WD SATA II 250GB
    1 x LG 4167B DVDRW
    TT Soprano + 400w TT PSU
    This evening I have literally tried everything I could think of, started with driver cleaner and then reinstalled the 84.21 drivers I'd had working with it originally but no go.
    Then installed the 91.31 drivers in vain knowing full well the result would be no different.
    Removed both the cards, flipped the SLI config card and tried each card seperately thinking maybe one of them was dicky, nope.
    Put them back with card two in card one's position and vice versa.
    Cleared CMOS
    Format C: reinstalled XP, thinking maybe coolbits had dicked something up or there was something yuk in the registry from when I originally removed the second card but HADN'T DISABLED the SLI multi GPU feature in the Nvidia control panel before I shut down and pulled it out.
    SP first boot installed all drivers Nforce, sound, network between reboots and then 84.21 again, no joy.
    Desperation sets in
    So I'm looking at the piddly TT 400W psu wondering if maybe the couple of months 'work' it had done between the card being removed and then refitted could have been enough to wear it down to a point where it wasn't going to play the 'SLI game' anymore, yep, really clutching at straws by now.
    Unplugged it all and fitted up an Antec 480W TruePower 2.0 I had sitting brand new in box for a rainy day, but alas.
    So now I sit here typing this rant, staring across at the system to my right which is idling away and smiling at me while it displays the NVidia SLI config box with Nvidias little speel about adding a second graphics card for significant improvements in rendering technology with no option to enable SLI and I'm left thinking, what the hell do I do now  arrrghhhhhhh

    Yeah I'm 100% sure this is hardware as opposed to Windows, though it would be nice to know what the PCIE VGA Link Width should be reported as for both a single card and SLI... I've never flashed the BIOS on this, irrelevant considering the SLI WAS working all peachy.
    Yeah the SLI switching card has definitely been reversed and re-reversed... I know because I take my time doing it cause I've seen people bend pins in teh slot by putting it in at the wrong angle. I've also had it out and back in a couple of times since to make sure that it wasn't a seating issue.
    So my SLI switch is in the right way and my bridge is sitting on top of my two cards but it still won't play ball. Although I've turned the bridge around as was suggested I can't see that would make a difference because I reckon it's the same both ways, the bridge, not the switch that is.
