Kde menu weird focus behavior

I've just installed Archlinux with Xorg 6.8 and kde.
When I click on the K menu , the focus keep going to the first entry in the menu. I am unable to focus other items.
Did anybody ever experienced that kind of thing?

And if i set the toolBar to be invisible it works just fine, so the toolbar seems to be stealing the focus somehow...
toolbar.setFocusable(false) has no effect though....

When calling a form using webutil from the menu the focus on the applet (I mean the Forms Application window) is lost and I have to click on the window to get back the focus on the application.

Try to use the NO_HIDE parameter in the CALL_FORM() built-in.

Apps failing to show up in KDE menu

I just installed BZFlag and Cube, and there's no "Games" entry in the KDE menu, even after I restarted KDE. What's screwing up? Is this the same thing that happens with Gnome menus under Xorg 7?

Yes I've noticed the same thing in Xfce, it seems that new xorg messes up the XDG_DATA_DIRS variable, it excludes /usr/share
so just add some thing like this to a executable script in /etc/profile.d
XDG_DATA_DIRS=$XDG_DATA_DIRS:/usr/share
export XDG_DATA_DIRS
#I'm not sure if this is needed as well
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS:/etc/xdg

Perhaps someone oughta file a bug report?

Default focus behavior in Swing

I have a JTabbedPane wherein every tab has a variety of fields, including buttons, text areas, text fields, tables, and so on. I wanted to tweak the default focus behavior such that the first text field or the first text area has the focus.
I used requestFocusInWindow() to set the focus on the first text field I get. This, however, was being overriden at a later stage (I am working on a vast code) and the first component inside a tab is getting the focus.
Is there any means to override the default focus behavior? I tried writing my own FocusTraversalPolicy but found that that is never used. How does the default focus behavior work? Does it set the focus on the first field it gets or what? And where can I find the code for the same?

I used requestFocusInWindow() to set the focus on the first text field I get. The requestFocusInWindow() method only works when the GUI is already visible. So I would suggest that you add a ChangeListener to the tabbed pane and add your code to set the focus every time the tab is changed.
For a slightly different approach the code in this posting will remember the last field for each tab that had focus and reset focus to that field when the tab is changed. The code is not completely off topic since it shows how to use a ChangeListener:

I installed openoffice 3.1.1-2 and there are no icons in KDE menu. To launch OOo I have to run:
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/[swriter]

IPhone 6 Plus weird screen behavior

I recently started noticing some erratic touch behavior on my screen, it's as if I have a possessed phone such as taps that I did not make, or swipes (up/down/left/right) as well. The spotlight randomly swipes down, or the notification center (it seems like a consistent swipe down behavior but at different locations). I couldn't swipe left yesterday to unlock my phone, and sometimes hangs and only locking/unlocking can fix the unresponsiveness.
Moreover, random tappings affect games and apps such as whatsapp, where it goes to the previous page due to a top left page tap, and then again on the edit button, then starts randomly scrolling up and down and tapping random parts of the screen.
This is quite frustrating, I tried formatting and starting the phone as a new one and only installed Whatsapp, but the problem persisted, albeit at fewer occurrences.
Now I noticed the problem again even though I'm on iOS 8.1, with only apps, music, and photos synced back from iTunes. What is happening ? How can I get this fixed ?

To troubleshoot this issue where your touchscreen is behaving erradically on your iPhone, please follow the steps below.
Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.

Emesene no kde menu entry anymore?

Didn't see any posts that looked relevent in the past few days. Since my last update, emesene has gone missing from my kde menu. It is still installed, and still works, but the nice convenient launcher in the menu has gone AWOL. Anyone else notice this? I tried doing a pacman -Rus emesene to remove everything and then reinstalling, but still gone.
I'd prefer not to create the launcher myself as in the past when I've manually created Kmenu entries it always ends up throwing the whole menu out of whack.
Obviously, not a GIANT issue, but would be convenient to be able to fix it.

Audacity and KDE menu (REPOST of 2/20)

Please help me find the icon for Audacity to use in editing kde menu. It appears in the panel when the program loads.

there is no icon included in the package. Use one of the generic kde icons in /opt/kde/share/icons/

Kde menu lost

I guess with last upgrade i lost every single kde-menu entry. Y use xfce and have minimal kde pkgs installed, so i just noticed it because there where no k3b and amarok in my xfce menu.
I removed kde from my system (also every config file i found) and reinstalled it, both extra and testing to check if there where something wrong with testing packages.
Running kde it shows no apps in menu, just control panel, execute and log out. Trying to run control panel does nothing.
I'm able to run every app from console.
I don't know what else can i do, i would really appreciate some help...

Tab focus behavior when searching selected text

In the previous versions of Firefox, when I selected some text on a webpage, right-clicked the text to get the context menu, and clicked the "Search" option (e.g. Search Google for "my text selection") the currently focused tab would stay focused and a new tab would be launched to handle the appropriate search in the background. Ever since I updated to Firefox 13, the new tab now receives focus when I do a search on selected text.
How can I switch back to the old behavior? This change in functionality is driving me crazy. When reading a webpage, I often like to select words and phrases about which I want to learn more and launch searches to Google and/or Wikipedia via the context menu. I almost always like to finish reading the current page before going off to read the new tabs. Even if I did intend to stop reading the current page and go to the new tab, it often takes many seconds for the new tab to load and I would rather keep reading the current page and switch to the new tab manually than stare at a blank tab while I wait for it to load.
In the "Tabs" tab of the options window, there is a checkbox for "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately." Is there anything like this for new tabs launched by a context menu search?

hey bob, you can enter '''about:config''' into the location bar of firefox, confirm the info notification (in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.search.context.loadInBackground''' & toggle it to true by double-clicking it. that should bring back the old behaviour...

Changing Tab Focus Behavior

I have two machines running Firefox 4.0. Both have Tab Mix Plus installed. Each exhibits a different behavior when opening multiple tabs.
To open multiple tabs, I simply highlight a number of links on a page, right click and select Open Links in New Tabs from the menu
In both cases this action results in each link opening in a new tab. In both cases the focus stays on the current tab.
However on one machine if I change focus by clicking on the tab next to the current one and then close it, the focus goes back to the first tab.
On the other machine if I change focus by clicking on the tab next to the current one and then close it, the focus moves to the tab immediately to the right of the closed tab.. This is the desired behavior.
What do I need to change on the first machine to get it to behave like the second one?
I tried doing a visual compare of the configuration setting on each machine both for Firefox and Tab Mix Plus but couldn't find any difference in settings.

You can set all other controls not to be tabbed through and the tab control to have its pages tabbed through. That way, when you use tab, only the tab control's pages will be on the tabbing list. This, however, is probably less straightforward.
I'm not sure what's the problem with the method you outlined. In most cases, if you want something to happen, you will have to code it. This appeares to be one of those cases. You can make a subVI to do the tabbing for you, if you don't want to have to code all of it in your VI. Pass the reference of the tab control into the VI after you detect the event and use that to decide whether to increase or decrease the tab value. Be sure to cycle the number back to the first page when it reaches the end.

Weird scroll behavior in Folder with actions attached

My downloads folder has an action that is performed when files are added. Now when scrolling down the contents within List mode, it will randomly jump back to whatever file I have selected. Is this expected behavior with folders that have actions attached? Anyway around it?

it really shouldn't be doing this if you are running this command on added files only. by I guess when the system updates the .DS_store file in this folder it first deletes the current one and only then writes out the new one. I know that's how it works with the plists. then it would probably run this command on .DS_store and that can easily cause the behavior you are seeing. you might try modifying the the folder action to ignore the .DS_store file. that will look like this

I found this app to remove folder actions. Wierd that I don't see a Folder Actions tab in my Finder contextual menu
it's there in the services submenu.

Weird keyboard behavior in MacBook Pro 13'

Hi guys, I have a MacBook Pro that's starting to show a strange keyboard behavior.
The problem is that the keys: e r t y u i o (curiously all belong to the same row) sometimes get unresponsive.
It's very annoying of course and it happened about 4 months after upgraded to Lion.
The geneal perfomance of the laptop was deteriorated and I've read that a clean install of Lion might help so I've did it thinking that it will also fix any OS weirdness about the keys too.
The machine works way better after the clean Lion install but the problem of those same keys persist.
What I did next was to reset the PRAM thinking it might be interference from some weird state there. But after the reset the problem persisted.
Curiously, I've figured out that when, for example the i key gets unresponsive, if I press AND hold the e key then the i key works totally fine (think of typing an "I" but using e instead of shift).
If, when pressing the unresponsive keys, I use different angles or quantity of force in the pressure of the keys or cornes of the key the behavior stays the same. The only thing that seems to affect is holding the e key down before pressing it. Every time it gets weird I do it and it kind of get normal for a while.
Also, sometimes, keeping some seconds the unresponsive key ends up getting responsive again (but not always).
This mac has about two years now and it's very well preserved.
Do this happen to anyone? ideas?
Is there some other thing than PRAM I could reset to see if it gets normal again?

Ok, I'll share.
This is how turned out:
Needed to send my MBP to another town with an Apple authorized service provider and asked to change the keyboard for a new one.
It was ~20 days waiting until they got the new keyboard part from Apple and about ~3 more to get it fixed and ~2 more to get it again in town.
I received it very well packaged and all was fine after that but the whole thing was very expensive, ~40% of the price I paid for the whole MPB in the first place plus all that time without being able to use it.

Weird Battery Behavior in 7.1.1

Has anyone else noticed weird behavior after upgrading to 7.1.1 - on my 5s its not that the battery is draining quickly - in fact its showin 5 hours 40 minutes usage with 75% remaining - which i find hard to believe
whats weird is standby time equals the usage time but i have turnd off and aback on the iPhone - I even did a hard reset - i have a monitor program which is showing the cpu as mostly idling at 90% or more ( although the monitor probably doesnt know about the M7 chip - it probably doesnt even know about the A7 chip too)
The battery percentage is not going down quickly - it seems to be thr same rate as with 7.1 but i dont believe these numbers
Im going to let the battery drain completely and do a battery calibration - that some times helps after IOS upgrades
But i was wondering if anyone else was seeing this and had any suggestions

The problem has always been an errant app that got stuck in a loop. It can happen any time, but is more likely to happen right after an update. My hypothesis is that the update process suspends running apps, and sometimes after the update they "lose their place" and spin their wheels trying to find it. (It's easier to say it that way then to talk about race conditions.) What will frequently fix it is to run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off. This terminates all processes, even those that cannot be killed from the Quick Launch screen.
You can also try to find the app; if it's email turning off any Push email accounts, rebooting, and turning them back on will frequently fix it. If it's a 3rd party app killing all apps in the Quick Launch will frequently fix it.
Sometimes just turning off the phone for a few minutes will fix it.
Restoring the phone as new will usually fix it, but restoring from backup may not, because the app state may be preserved in the backup.
It really just a matter of trying things like these one at a time. One of them will work.
Do you or Trevor have a CPU monitoring app you believe is a quality application?

Odd urxvt focus behavior

urxvt has not been focusing the past day or so. when I open it, it comes up unfocused. I havent made any changes to .Xdefaults nor is there any entry other than color-scheme. I have looked in rc.xml (openbox) and pypanelrc and I dont have anything in regards to urxvt & focusing.
no other applications have this behavior. they all focus upon opening. urxvt used to as well.
there was an update on the 8th for urxvt and one for openbox, so perhaps there's a bug..? has anyone else noticed this with ob & urxvt?
what other causes are possible? not that it's a big deal or anything - my system is running perfectly as is urxvt besides this little annoyance. im more curious than anything.

I have this problem too. Well sometimes it opens up totally black, and then when I click on it it pops into focus with the normal trasparency settings. But sometimes it opens up just fine. I tried upgrading to the testing version, and it has the same behavior. I thought it was something I set wrong in .Xdefaults, but it use to always be just fine. Also it seems to open up kind of slow compared to other terminals. I tried googling and haven't found any thing specific yet.
