Tab focus behavior when searching selected text

In the previous versions of Firefox, when I selected some text on a webpage, right-clicked the text to get the context menu, and clicked the "Search" option (e.g. Search Google for "my text selection") the currently focused tab would stay focused and a new tab would be launched to handle the appropriate search in the background. Ever since I updated to Firefox 13, the new tab now receives focus when I do a search on selected text.
How can I switch back to the old behavior? This change in functionality is driving me crazy. When reading a webpage, I often like to select words and phrases about which I want to learn more and launch searches to Google and/or Wikipedia via the context menu. I almost always like to finish reading the current page before going off to read the new tabs. Even if I did intend to stop reading the current page and go to the new tab, it often takes many seconds for the new tab to load and I would rather keep reading the current page and switch to the new tab manually than stare at a blank tab while I wait for it to load.
In the "Tabs" tab of the options window, there is a checkbox for "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately." Is there anything like this for new tabs launched by a context menu search?

hey bob, you can enter '''about:config''' into the location bar of firefox, confirm the info notification (in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.search.context.loadInBackground''' & toggle it to true by double-clicking it. that should bring back the old behaviour...

When I select text, system wide, and delete it, why is the succeeding text then selected?
This doesn't happen all the time, but it's happened enough for me to notice it and get super annoyed by it.
Here's an example. If I have the following text:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
And I highlight quick brown and then press delete, I get: (The red shows the selected text)
The fox jumps over the lazy dog.
So when I then start typing, more text is removed than I want. Sometimes this effect carries over, so that the next couple words are selected once I start typing.
It's wonderfully annoying. So I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing such issues or if anyone might have an idea on how to get rid of this problem.

Editor: Annoying pop-up for choosing main programs when searching for text

Hi,
We're upgrading to ECC60 and are getting frustrated when searching for text in a source code within the ABAP editor.
For every include contained in the main program you are searching in there is a pop-up asking to choose the main program for that include.
This can get crazy when searching in a standard SAP program such as SAPMV45A. You'll have to process through 30-40 of these pop-up windows before your search results appear. I each pop-up you have to scroll though dozens of main programs to find the one you are doing the search in.
Can this be turned of somehow to have the search functionality work as it did in previous version, where the Editor knows that the program you are launching the search from is the main program you want the results from?

How do I get the bold, underline, italics editing option for Notes on iPhone 5 iOS 7.0.4? Option is not appearing when I select text.

When I select text, I don't get an arrow with additional options. What is shown in the image are the only options I get. Is there something I need to do in Settings or something in order to be able to bold, underline and italicize text?

I only have an iPod (but it does have the latest software) but I achieved bold text as follows:
1) touch and hold word to embolden;
2) touch Select;
3) touch the arrow head at the right;
4) touch BIU option section of the option bar;
5) touch the Bold section of the option bar.
Having selected the text, the selection can be narrowed or widened using the blue dot. Also, the Bold, Italics and Underline option bar does not disappear once a section has been made, thus bold and underline can be chosen - touch elsewhere on the screen to remove the option bar. When the selected option bar section background turns grey the software has accepted your request. Note that a first go at achieving this might not work if the software has not correctly picked up your touch and may not present you with the correct options - it is intuitively trying to help you and sometimes misunderstands your touch.

Changing Tab Focus Behavior

I have two machines running Firefox 4.0. Both have Tab Mix Plus installed. Each exhibits a different behavior when opening multiple tabs.
To open multiple tabs, I simply highlight a number of links on a page, right click and select Open Links in New Tabs from the menu
In both cases this action results in each link opening in a new tab. In both cases the focus stays on the current tab.
However on one machine if I change focus by clicking on the tab next to the current one and then close it, the focus goes back to the first tab.
On the other machine if I change focus by clicking on the tab next to the current one and then close it, the focus moves to the tab immediately to the right of the closed tab.. This is the desired behavior.
What do I need to change on the first machine to get it to behave like the second one?
I tried doing a visual compare of the configuration setting on each machine both for Firefox and Tab Mix Plus but couldn't find any difference in settings.

You can set all other controls not to be tabbed through and the tab control to have its pages tabbed through. That way, when you use tab, only the tab control's pages will be on the tabbing list. This, however, is probably less straightforward.
I'm not sure what's the problem with the method you outlined. In most cases, if you want something to happen, you will have to code it. This appeares to be one of those cases. You can make a subVI to do the tabbing for you, if you don't want to have to code all of it in your VI. Pass the reference of the tab control into the VI after you detect the event and use that to decide whether to increase or decrease the tab value. Be sure to cycle the number back to the first page when it reaches the end.

In JDev11.1.2, when I select texts in editor, it will copy automatically?

I met one strange thing in the Jdev version 11.1.2, when I select some texts in editor(Java/JSP/XML/HTML), it will copy the selected text automatically, and I can't find which property that I can deselect in preference to disable this function.
And I reinstalled it, this issue is still existed, but other colleagues using the same version don't have this issue, and also I didn't meet this issue when I used previous version(like 11.1.1.5 or 11.1.1.4) .
Anyone knows it?

Only loads tab's content when i select it ?

is there a way to make safari only load tab's content only when we select it as the active tab ? i think it is kind of bandwidth wise solution when we configured safari to reopen last active session when reoping safari, especially with lots of tabs open.
..similar to firefox's feature i guess..

As it turns out I have the same question, but I don't read book on my iPhone 6 plus. I ended up deleting all of the books listed that did not have the "download from the cloud" icon in the upper right hand corner. This retained the book for future downloading from iCloud and got rid of the numbers in red in the "Purchases" tab. Unfortunately I still have a red number 1 on my iPad. I do all of my reading from my iPad. I did try deleting some book I haven't read yet, but it didn't work on the iPad like the iPhone. What ever!

Spry - load tab content only when clicked / selected

I'm considering spry to create a multi-tab page layout.. tabs
such as 'account', 'balance', 'bin', 'history', etc.
Each tab's content is dynamic and based on moderately
demanding DB calls. Is there a way to set Spry such that
- only the default selected tab's content (on page load) is
'filled', while the content of other tabs is generated only upon
user's click?
- once a tab's content is loaded, not regenerate its dynamic
content? I think I have an idea how to do this, but doesn't hurt to
ask.

as default so if the page refreshes it reloads the current tab not
the first tab? If so this is exactly what i'm after! I'm not hot on
javascript so could you possibly expand a little on how i would
implement this in a php page??

Strange behavior when searching a phrase using reg exp and dynamic sql

I have a strange issue while using dynamic sql for an apex page. I have a requirement to search a string in the database column which is entered by user on a page item. The search process should search the whole phrase only.
I have a query generated dynamically in the back end and use it in a cursor in the stored procedure

However, if the search string contains any special character, it does not return any thing. This strange issue happens only if I call the procedure from the apex page and the search string contains a special character. (please note that the procedure works fine even from apex if the string does not have a special character). When I debugged this, found that, the cursor does not fetch any rows (it is supposed to fetch two rows) for unknown reason. When I run the query separately, it returns the two rows (in which the column group_desc contains the search string "HR Selection & Assignment") as desired. Also, when I test the procedure in the back end (PLSQL developer), it works fine.
Any idea, what is causing this strange behaviour?

i don't see anything about a dataProvider. you're assigning a source for a scrollpane. scrollpane's don't have a dataProvider property.
anyway, other than arrayRun always being false when that last if-statement executes, what's the problem? doesn't that movieclip display when that 2nd branch of the last if-statement executes (assuming instance is defined correctly etc)?

Redraw bug when searching for text

I have discovered a bug in CVI 2012 SP2, 13.0.2 (278). It has to do with the MDI windowing interface and text searching. Here are the steps to reproduce this.
1) I have chosen to have my code and UIR windows open in a non-maximized manner.
2) Now, open at least two windows so they overlap.
3) Do a multi-file search
The current position index of a code window either in our out of focus gets moved by several lines. But! The text on this window doesn't get refreshed though, resulting in some strange artefacts. Examples:

A curious workaround is if you resize slightly the offending window, all the contents "snap" back to the new scroll index.

It seems to only happen with CTRL + SHIFT + F (multi-file find). Here's a better reproducible procedure:
CTRL + SHIFT + F on a keyword / string
In the results window, double-click one in a different file, not the file you started the CTRL + SHIFT + F search on!
Now, get back to the original source file that you started the CTRL + SHIFT + F search on. Then you'll see the bug.
Seems to be irrespective of particular *.c or *.h files. Any source/header file will do.
Yes, to fix the bug instantly, simply resize the offending source/header file in any dimension, and display bug disappears.

Strange behavior when duplicating a text layer

Hello All,
I was following a tutorial.
I created a text layer. typed in the number "2012" in white
I placed a texture in the comp.
I used the text layer as an alpha track matte
Then I duplicated the Text layer, and instead of the layer being named 2012 it automatically changed to 2013.
When I look at it as Layer Name or Source Name it was the same "2013"
So I create a new text layer and type in "0" and the layer was appropiately named 0
But when I duplicated that layer it was named 2014
When I duplicated any of the text Layers it was named the next sequencially higher number
This pattern of renaming was only broken by typing in a number where the leading digit was anther value up i.e. 4329
Then the duplicating of the text layer would start naming the with this value plus 1.
Same thing happens if you split the text layer
I think this is a bug or bad programming. this can lead to unnecessary confusion if you working on a project with number text layers and have to duplicate, many of them or many times. Or is the answer to pre compose the text layer before duplicating --- NO that has its own shotcomings.
CS5.5 on a Mac Os 10.6.8

I found a solution. Rename the Text layer by adding a space before or after the numerals. Now the duplicates are named as the written text with a suffix increased by 1 for each additional duplicated layer.

Wrong behavior when search for PO in status Confirmed by vendor.

The problem is that after we create POR with quantity like the PO has there are no results if we try to search PO whit the status "Confirmed by vendor"

Pages, Numbers & Keynote freeze selecting text only when wifi or cellular are on

Hello, I have iPad Air iOS 7.1, Pages, Numbers and Keynote 2.2. When I select text into a document of these apps don't respond during 2-5 second. Then I can see magnifier mini image freeze till popup menu emerge. This problem doesn't happen in other app like Notes, Safari and even in search option into iWorks app. Besides, when I select the whole paragraph, and magnifier doesn't emerge, it doesn't happen. Therefore, it seems the problem is magnifier animation, but only in iWork apps AND WIFI OR CELLULAR CONNECTION ARE ON. It is very annoying. I have this fail since I acquired iPad Air despite updates. I have reboot the device and restore it too. Then freeze time reduces but step by step using the device a few hours, the time increase. ONLY DISAPPEAR WHEN WIFI AND CELLULAR CONNECTION ARE OFF.
Please, could you check it in your devices in order to verify if the problem is these app programming and Apple must update them or it is my device and I have to request its exchange.
Technical support are been a bit slow confirming it at the same conditions,
- same device - I think that differences about cellular capability or capacity shouldn't be important
- same configuration - wifi and cellular off (then without freeze)/wifi or cellular on (then with freeze of several seconds)

I already receive the technical support answer about this issue, they have tried on selecting text in iWork app within a few iPad Air alternating between wifi turn on and off and they haven't appreciated freezes in no case.
Then it seems that the problem is not related with iWork app but how the device works. However, before to apply for the exchange of it for other, I have pending the following proofs,
- Restoring again the device, install only iWork app without restore backup and try on how it works turning on/off wifi and cellular connections in a new document. If that test fail would indicate the device is broken-down, if it works well would indicate the backup is the problem.
- All the same, it could be other odder explanation, that is the freeze depends on the speed that the connection runs -technical support could has tried on it in fast one and mine is slower. This would be a bad news because would indicate that iWorks app finally are wrong programming - I remember that this fail not happen in other app- or worse, iWorks app could send information by selecting text - I don't know for what and toward where. I know that is a bit paranoid, therefore I hope I haven't to try it on. Besides, it only occur when magnifier appears as a consequence it is a rare interaction between graphics magnifier animation and connections behavior that point out the hardware is guilty, but why only in iWorks app!
I hope I find definitely a solution soon because I have already lost a lot of time. I will expose my conclusions.

Why does my cursor not automatically select the entire word when I try to select text by starting/ending in the middle of a word?

In any other browser I've used (or word processor, for that matter) when I select text using my mouse cursor, if I start and/or end in the middle of a word, it automatically selects the whole word when I'm selecting more than one word. But for some reason this is not happening in Firefox. If I try to select say 3 words, and I start in the middle of the first word and end in the middle of the last word, it will only select those parts, not all 3 words entirely.

Firefox allows to select part of a word. You can select a word with a double click and use Shift + left click to set the end of the selection, so you need to click at the end of the last word instead of in it.
