(KDE) Nautilus plugin in kde's dolphin?

Hi all!
I am the mantainer of this package in aur: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22391
It has been allways very useful, since you can have a folder full of unsorted images, and you can just select all of them, right click on them, and choose the option "Rename to exif date" and they will be renamed to their exact date and time they were taken.
This is the ony thing i am really missing since i switched to kde(mod): I take lots of pictures with my digital camera and mobile phone, but, since then, i didnt find the way for making this nautilus pkugin work under kde.......... Is there any way to make nautilus' plugins, like this, work under kde's file manager? (Dolphin?
I would really appreciate some help with this, see if we can sort something out...
Thanks!!!!

you can install nautilus on kdemod, it will work fine and use it when you need this function. Or you can try digikam (available at your repo of choice), a kde photo manager. I'm not sure it has this feature, but it can handle exif-tags.

  • No Nautilus Plugins with Client2.0.2 on SLED 11

    I have a copy of SLED 11 fully patched and with ncpfs installed. I
    installed the Novell Client from the ISO, and everything works fine except
    there are no plugins in Nautilus. There are no Novell options in the
    right-click menus (Salvage, Novell Properties, etc.), and the Novell
    Services button is missing from the toolbar. I have tried this twice with
    no luck.
    SLED is running as a VMware Workstation guest on SLED 10.2, but I
    wouldn't think that would matter. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Well, first off, I'd recommend uninstalling ncpfs. You don't need that
    if you are using the Novell Client for Linux. Second, what version of
    NCL are you running? It should be NCL 2.0 SP2. Lastly, do you have the
    novell-nautilus-plugin package installed? When I installed NCL via YaST
    (after adding the NCL ISO as an installation source), it automatically
    installed this plugin for me. As a result I get all the Novell-specific
    context menus in Nautilus on SLED11.

  • KDE's Dolphin can't mount NTFS partitions after upgrade to systemd

    Hi, I just finished to migrate my system to a pure systemd setup. Everithing seems to work fine, except that Dolphin can't mount NTFS partitions anymore, as it was able to do before. I'm not 100% sure that systemd is the culprit, but nevertheless it is a big change in my system so I assume that it may be the problem.
    Trying to mount with Dolphin I get this error message:
    An error occurred while accessing 'sATA-a', the system responded: The requested operation has failed.: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
    Error opening '/dev/sdb1': Permesso negato
    Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Permesso negato
    Please check '/dev/sdb1' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,
    and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at
    http://tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-faq/#unprivileged
    I used to get this kind of error aeons ago when trying to mount from CL; puzzling enough, mounting from CL now works:
    $ mount /media/disks/sATA-a
    $ ls /media/disks/sATA-a
    Documenti Download $RECYCLE.BIN RECYCLER sATA-b System Volume Information Temp Video
    This is the relevant entry in my fstab (I don't know if Dolphin cares about it...):
    #sATA-a
    UUID=D6789B21789B0003 /media/disks/sATA-a ntfs-3g noauto,users 0 0
    And finally:
    $ ll `which ntfs-3g`
    -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 125K 21 apr 12.13 /bin/ntfs-3g
    Can anybody give me a hint? Thanks.

    OK, the mess is growing up. Today I switched my laptop to systemd, and the mount problem has appeared  on this system as well. So I am confident that this is a systemd-related issue, and maybe some stock Arch config file is broken. I have this entry on my /etc/fstab for the ntfs-3g drive:
    UUID=88705BA9705B9D2E /media/vista ntfs-3g noauto,users,exec 0 0
    I compiled ntfs-3g with internal fuse support and did the setuid trick:
    $ ls -l `which ntfs-3g`
    -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 125K 16 apr 2012 /bin/ntfs-3g
    I can mount the disk using the command:
    $ mount /media/vista/
    $
    It works flawlessly, so ntfs-3g works. If I try to mount it with udisks I get:
    $ /usr/bin/udisks --mount /dev/sda2 --mount-options users,exec
    Mount failed: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
    Error opening '/dev/sda2': Permesso negato
    Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Permesso negato
    Please check '/dev/sda2' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,
    and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at
    http://tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-faq/#unprivileged
    It sounds to me that udisks is trying to mount the disk as a different user, but I'm not an expert so I might be wrong. If I remove the entry in /etc/fstab then udisks will ask for the password. Repeating the same steps but for an ext3 partition, I am able to mount with udisks when there is a proper fstab entry, and I'm asked for a password when that entry is commented out.
    Based on these findings, I strongly suspect that there is some problem with logind configuration in my system. I have been going round and round for hours, serching the web and the wiki (which BTW is in a very bad shape, containing outdated or no informations about mount policies in the polkit and udev sections), and now I feel I need some help to go through it... thanks.

  • What is in a minimal KDE install?

    Hi all,
    I love the philosophy of Arch in keeping things simple. I also like KDE and am trying to install as few packages as possible. I know to do a minimal KDE install, I do this:
    pacman -S kdebase kde-l10n-yourlanguagehere phonon-vlc
    My question is: what does this minimal install include? I don't need lots of games and screensaves, but things like Kate, Konsole, Dolphin, Konqueror, System Settings, archiver, file diff, universal file viewer (Okular I think), etc... are very useful. I also like the visual effects, like fading and what not. So what does the base include and what do I need to install to get the things above I want? A quick Google search and I found this:
    konqueror konsole kate kdiff3 kde-misc/konq-plugins kde-base/dolphin kde-base/okular
    But what about the themes and visual effects?

    How about running this command and finding for yourself?
    [karol@black ~]$ pacman -S kdebase kde-l10n-yourlanguagehere phonon-vlc
    :: There are 11 members in group kdebase:
    :: Repository extra
    1) kde-wallpapers 2) kdebase-dolphin 3) kdebase-kdepasswd 4) kdebase-kdialog
    5) kdebase-keditbookmarks 6) kdebase-kfind 7) kdebase-konq-plugins
    8) kdebase-konqueror 9) kdebase-konsole 10) kdebase-kwrite 11) kdebase-plasma
    Enter a selection (default=all):
    There's no kde-l10n-yourlanguagehere package, you have to pick one for your your language.

  • [KDE] segfault for non KDE apps? (new)

    Hi,
    a few days ago, I noticed that non KDE apps (Firefox, Claws Mail, etc.) did not start on my KDE desktop (KDE 4.4, not KDE-mod).
    What happens is that if I click on one of them on the menu, the app starts (I see the mouse cursor being active) but in the end nothing happens. By executing the corresponding command in a terminal followed by sudo, it would work. However, when entering the same command without sudo it gives me a "segmentation fault". KDE apps (dolphin, konqueror) works perfectly.
    What would that mean and how can I fix it?
    thanks,
    Charles.

    Dude, you need an iTunes Store account to purchase apps. You don't need to download a US version of iTunes to upgrade to 1.1.3. Without an iTunes Store Account, your ipod touch is as good as crippled since you cannot download and install apps onto your ipod Touch while others can. I do have one suggestion for Apple: to enable an iTunes Apps (not music) Account that is made payable by credit cards or gift cards (but not restricted to countries that itunes store operates in). This way, Apple can also sell apps to many more countries.

  • HowTo: Use Thunar's Bulk Rename with Dolphin

    I thought I would post a quick note here on how to use Thunar's Bulk Rename tool with KDE's Dolphin file browser.
    Background
    I am aware of KRename, but frankly, I find it a bit too complex. I prefer Bulk Rename because it is simpler, and because I often use regular expressions to rename files, which I find a bit quicker to accomplish with Bulk Rename than with KRename.
    Prerequisites
    Before getting started, one should make sure that dolphin and thunar are installed. This can simply be checked with the following pacman command:
    pacman -Qs 'thunar|dolphin'
    The output on should be similar to this:
    local/kdebase-dolphin 4.14.3-1 (kde kdebase)
    File Manager
    local/kdesdk-dolphin-plugins 4.14.3-1 (kde kdesdk)
    Extra Dolphin plugins
    local/thunar 1.6.3-2 (xfce4)
    Modern file manager for Xfce
    local/thunar-volman 0.8.0-2 (xfce4)
    Automatic management of removeable devices in Thunar
    KDE Service Menu Entries
    A kde service menu entry is, in most simple terms and for the purpose of this 'HowTo', a file that defines an option that can be added to e.g. dolphin's right-click menu. These services are by default in:
    /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/
    ... but one can also add a service to the local configuration, which I recommend, unless you want the Bulk Rename feature to appear system wide.
    To add a service entry locally, open a Terminal and create the 'ServiceMenus' directory if it doesn't exist yet:
    cd ~/.kde4/share/kde4/services/
    mkdir ServiceMenus
    cd ServiceMenus
    Finally create the service entry that will make 'Bulk Rename' appear as a right-click option in dolphin. To do so, use your favorite text editor and create a file called 'bulk-rename.desktop' with the following content:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Service
    ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin
    MimeType=all/all;
    Actions=BulkRename;
    X-KDE-StartupNotify=false
    X-KDE-Priority=TopLevel
    [Desktop Action BulkRename]
    Name=Bulk Rename
    Exec=thunar -B %U
    Save this file as 'bulk-rename.desktop' in the previously created service menus directory (~/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus), and you're done!
    Be sure to restart dolphin if it was already running. Select a couple of files (it works with folders, too), right-click, and select 'Bulk Rename'. Thunar's Bulk Rename will pop up with the selected files, ready for your renaming actions.
    Cheers,
    DrTebi

    Thanks for wriitng that. I suggest adding it to the wiki. That way the community can help maintain it.

  • Nemo and Nautilus crashing on accessing Samba shares

    Hi,
    I've made a clean install on a new laptop, and I've installed the cinnamon desktop environment. I've installed the following versions of these packages in order to get samba to work with nautilus:
    Name           : smbclient
    Version        : 3.6.12-1o
    Name           : gvfs-smb
    Version        : 1.14.2-3
    Name           : nautilus
    Version        : 3.6.3-1
    Name           : gnome-vfs
    Version        : 2.24.4-6
    However, I get a segmentation fault every time I try to access any samba share or just by simply typing smb:// into the address bar.
    Using the gnome-control-center printer setup also causes a segfault. Here is the dmesg output:
    [ 748.193864] nautilus[3051]: segfault at 0 ip 00000000004c 1a89 sp 00007fff15bf8440 error 4 in nautilus[400000+14c000]
    Can anyone help?
    I'm unable to find any specific help on the forum for this particular problem
    Thanks!
    Last edited by shawntan (2013-02-01 09:12:44)

    I've been trying to isolate the problem, and I think it has to do with gvfs-smb.
    I am able to access shares via smbclient, and I even tried installing KDE's dolphin, which worked flawlessly as well.
    I'll see what happens if I use an older version of gvfs-smb.

  • GVFS doesn't work in nautilus / nemo

    Hi,
    like the title says I can't mount anything with GVFS – mainly sftp, I tried smb too though – in nemo (and I've tried nautilus as well). This doesn't happen if I install KDE's dolphin file manager, so it seems to be the gvfs backend the gnome-family programs use that's causing the problems here. I don't really know how to debug this... The only error message I'm getting is "Can't load the supported server method list. Please check your gvfs installation." when I go to File -> "Connect to server" in nemo, there are no gvfs related messages on stdout.
    I've only got this problem on one of my PCs (my laptop) so it's not just a bug. Any hints on how to debug this would  be appreciated!

  • No nautilus-open-terminal in Arch64??

    The nautilus-open-terminal package is listed as being in the community repo, but it doesn't seem to be in the Arch64 community repo... shouldn't this one be easy?
    Also, where can one see what's in Arch64 repos?
    ~B

    i'm sure hte x64 and x32 repos are not exactly in sync so it may takea lil while for them to match each other ....
    i use both systems, keep them both up to date and some pkg's in x64 are more up to date, i.e nautilus 2.18.2 in x64 while nautilus 2.18.1 in x32 and both systems have the same configs .. repos: testing,unstable, etc.
    i don't know about nautilus -open terminal, because i changed the pkgbuild to work with the new /usr layout so i suggest you do the same and not live without a great little nautilus plugin any longer

    When I was using Gnome I just created a link to Konq and used that for my
    netware file browsing and it worked fine. I even used a custom icon for it
    that was a little screen with a red N in the middle of it...I eventually
    moved over to KDE though after having numerous issues with gnome weirdness
    with gnome-panels and the gnome-keyring. I got so frustrated one day after
    making just a couple minor modifications to my desktop that I logged into
    KDE and I haven't been back to gnome since...that was like 3 months ago.
    Prior to that I had been using Gnome exclusively for years (since redhat 7
    days) It cracks me up that Novell makes this big press announcement about
    standardizing on Gnome but their client is sooo much better intergrated
    with KDE. I don't get it either.

  • How to remove all packages in a group except x, y, and z?

    When I installed Arch, I installed KDE.  Since then, I've switched to tiling WMs (Awesome, then DWM), and I really have no need of most of KDE any more.  I still really like Dolphin, though.  Is there a simple way to tell pacman to remove the kde group except for dolphin and its dependencies? (i.e., rather than just removing all of kde and reinstalling the few bits I want.)

    Try
    #!/bin/bash
    groups="kde"
    packages="kdebase-dolphin kdeutils-kcalc"
    comm -23 <(comm -12 <(pacman -Sgq $groups|sort) <(pacman -Qq) | sort) <(for i in $packages; do pactree -u $i; done | sort)
    <thisscriptname> | sudo pacman -Rns -
    It allowed me to remove 344 of 396 packages I installed with 'pacman -S kde', both dolphin and kcalc seem to work (they at least start up ;P).
    Of course you need to modify which group(s) you want to remove and which packages you want to keep, as well as pacman options - I'm fine with '-Rns' but you may prefer different ones.

  • My USB Drive goes half speed on Arch

    Dear Archers:
    I have a problem when running my USB hard drive (of 1 TB) on my Arch laptop. For some reason, the drive, which is a USB 3.0, copies files from the external to the internal drive at about 30 MB/s. Doing the "same" task with the "same" files on the "same" USB 3 port on the "same" laptop on other Debian-based distros results in a transfer rate of 60 - 100 MB/s. Am I missing some package to run at full speed with my Arch system?
    Another thing that I've also noticed is that there's a delay of more than 1 minute when I try to mount the drive. This doesn't happen on other distros.
    Any hint or suggestions are welcome!
    Thanks in advance

    Ok guys. An annoying update here.
    The problem with this external drive achieved a new level of difficulty for me. Yesterday the problems were a slow mount (over a minute) and slow transfer rates for both writing and reading data. Today I got back home and tried to plug the drive once again and the freaking thing just won't mount at all!. The hard drive appears in the list of detected devices and on my file manager, but when I click on it to open the folder and get it to mount, the complete file manager freezes. I have to unplug it and try again. I have to repeat these steps something like four or five times in order to see the content (I was really really scared when I experienced this because I thought the drive was broken, but I tried it in another PC and everything was showing correctly).
    I'm starting to get desesperate...I constantly write data to back it up for job purposes. Hopefully I'll solve this thing, or you guys can throw some more technical help at me.
    In case it matters: The external drive is a USB 3.0 (brand Verbatim) of 1 TB, I keep the default filesystem that drive was using as factory default (I think is NTFS). I have Arch Linux updated as of today, with the latest stable packages. I run Arch with Ubuntu's Unity in UEFI mode as the only OS. I tried other file managers as well including KDE's Dolphin, Thunar, PCManFM and Nemo but no avail.
