Kde: start program without border

Hello,
well i use KDE,
and i'd like have aterm without border.
So looked for aterm solution, but i failed, as beta2 isn't compiling (beta2 have new features like borderless).
Well, KDE has option advandced>no border, it works well, but i'd like start program without border (no turn on option every time), so looked solutions, and found "kstart", but i failed again as i can't find any good using explainations.
So who can help me?:) :oops:

This is probably a stupid question, but I've compiled a piece of software I need from source using the traditional (./configure, make, sudo make install) method and I have to navigate to the directory where it was installed (usr/local/bin) in order to start the program from the terminal. How do I compile the program so that I can just open up my terminal and type the command to start the program?

Yes you have to modify a preexisting PKGBUILD to fit whatever your new program is, but it's not very hard to do. There's also files in /usr/share/pacman that can be used as a starting point, with the basics (./configure -> make -> make install) being in PKGBUILD.proto

How to start Swing programs without console

Hi, I'm working on Swing program, which can be started in the MS-DOS console by typing:
java myProgram
This works great, but for the end-users, I don't want them to see the ugly console that shows up and occasionally display exception code. How do I get the Swing program to start up without having the accompanying console?

you can also package it in a jar and make it executable. There's a good discussion in the Jar Forum about how to do that.

Starting up without spaces flying around

I have 4 spaces. ichat and skype are automaticly started in 4th space, Mail in 2nd while logging in.
is there a way to start up leopard, so that the screen would be focused and stayed in first space, and it would not jump from space to space where the programs are being auto started?
it would be also very useful to know how to auto start dashboard without actually showing it on the screen at that time. checking the "hide" box in login items settings does not work.

I don’t think there is a way to prevent Spaces from going to its assigned Space to start each application at startup.
I have 10 applications that open at startup and I’ll admit it was a somewhat dizzying effect the first few times. But it only takes about a minute to finish opening them. You could try looking away, starting your screensaver, or going to get a cup of coffee while it starts up.
As for Dashboard, it doesn’t have a hide function. Either it is active or it is not. Opening it at startup serves no purpose if you don’t want to use it immediately after startup. Press the F3 function key when you want it and click outside a widget when you don’t.

First I have created a user with SU01, then given the role of mySAP SRM Operational Purchaser.
After that using Tcode users_gen and Create Users from Existing SU01 Users I have generated EBP user for that user.
Then in the mySAP portal I cant use any steps including Shop, Check Status, Approval or anything else.

Here are the details given in the OSS Note:

Locations as of EBP 4.0 - plant replication
As of EBP 4.0, a business partner of type location must exist for every R/3 plant; for this reason, the plants must be replicated from all R/3 Backend systems known in the system.
The system does not start an EBP application before the replication has not been executed successfully; the program terminate themselves and the system refers to this note with an error message.
If you upgrade from BBP 2.0B or BBP 2.0C, you must first convert the old 'Shopping carts' so that the program plants described here can convert to locations. Use the BBP_TRANSFORM_SCS report for the conversion (see also note 481100).
Process:
The replication must be explicitly triggered by means of program BBP_LOCATIONS_GET_ALL.
This program checks first whether the system in question is an upgrade system, and if necessary it checks whether XPRA BBP_ATTR_XPRA400 was terminated with errors (in this case, BBP_LOCATIONS_GET_ALL terminates and has to be restarted after a successful run of the XPRA).
After the XPRA check, the system determines from table BBP_BACKEND_DEST all backend systems that can be accessed by RFC.
Then the system reads all locations already existing in the EBP in order
to convert any existing data in a legacy system
to obtain comparison values to avoid duplicate records (identical data records with different partner numbers)
Then the system imports the data for the plants from all back end systems determined before, compares them with the existing master records and either adds mapping entries or generates new business partners accordingly.
In upgrade systems the following activities are also carried out:
Conversion of the favorites (user-specific values for the last used business partners of the type location from table BBP_GRCPLANT_FAV)
Conversion for user attributes WRK and REQUESTER (the business partner number is added to attribute WRK, the logical backend system is added to attribute REQUESTER)
Conversion of the legacy documents (an entry with partner function 'Location' must be added to references 'Backend plant'; entries with business partner of type location as the ship-to party must be deleted and also an entry with partner function 'Location' must be added)
If all subtasks could be executed without errors, the program finally sets the transaction authorization (that is, as of this time it is possible to start 'normal' EBP transactions as, for example, the shopping cart, again).
The transaction authorization consists of a 'switch' in table T77S0 (GRPID = EBP and SEMID = LMIGR) which is delivered with value '0'.
As long as this value is not set to 'X', all EBP transactions terminate themselves.
Success/warning/error messages in program BBP_LOCATIONS_GET_ALL are stored in application log BBP_LOCATIONS_GET (Transaction SLG1).
Setting the transaction authorization manually:
The customer can decide to set the 'switch' in table T77S0 to 'X' and to allow the work start under the following circumstances:
Only one error has occurred, this should be ignored
One of several back ends broke down during an upgrade or during an installation, and a postponement of the system start cannot be allowed.
Troubleshooting is not possible/required.
This is only a local scenario (which should actually not exist because at least an FI R/3 Backend system should exist) so that a replication of plants is not possible.
For this purpose, program BBP_LOCATION_MIGRATION_SET is availbale which sets required value 'X' in table T77S0 (if the program was started inadvertently, the original value can be restored using BBP_LOCATION_MIGRATION_RESET).
If the replication from a backend system could not be executed it is possible to repeat this step at a later time via program BBP_LOCATIONS_GET_FROM_SYSTEM for exactly this R/3 system.
If only single plants cannot be replicated (for example due to inadequately maintained data), they can be copied to the EBP after being revised with program BBP_LOCATIONS_GET_SELECTED (the program can also be used during normal operation to transfer new plants to locations).
You can also create individual locations via the Web transaction 'Managing Business Partners' and assign them to an R/3 plant.

C# Examples of GPIB Programming without Measurement Studio

I am trying to find examples of programming a gpib instrument with C#, but without Measurement studio. I am trying to cross the managed/unmanaged barrier and do not want to take any unnecessary performance hits.

There is a very good reference on the functions that you can call for GPIB in C or C++. Once you have installed the 488.2 driver, if you go to Windows»Start»Programs»National Instruments» NI-488.2 »NI-488.2 Help.
It will contain all the functions that you can use.
Here I attached a C code for LabWindows/CVI which contains also some functions for a front panel. The important thing is to see how you use the ibdev, or ibwrt or ibrd commands.
Basically what you need is the functions I just mentioned.
You can find more examples in the Developer Zone. Look for CVI examples for GPIB and will be matter of just reading the C code.

Allowing non-admin users to use certain programs without authenticating

I would like to allow certain programs to be run by non-admin users without forcing them to authenticate as an admin. Here is my example: I'm running Parallels Desktop with a VM to Windows. I want to allow my children to use this VM to access Windows programs. But, when starting a VM, the Mac OS requires an administrator to authenticate. Needless to say, I don't want my children to be administrators on the machine. I've been assured that this is not an issue related to how Parallels works (from the support team at Parallels). Instead, this is an issue with the Mac. i'm not sure one way or the other, but it seams useful to be able to (in general) allow non-admin users to use certain programs without forcing them to authenicate as administrators.
There is only one summary in the Mac help on allowing non-admin users to change the time zone settings by directly editing the /etc/authorization file. Does anybody know if this procedure would work for other programs?

If you know what the requested right is, that procedure can be applied to any right in an application with a graphic interface by duplicating and modifying entries. The contents of that file don't control usage of sudo in the Terminal.

[Solved] Create shortcut to kde start menu

It is probably very newbie, but I actually can't understand why when I do install a package from linux, why it doesn't create the shortcut into my kde start menu?
On my other Arch system, for example when I did install kopete, everything was created automatically, but on this system, it seems to do not.
I had read an article on archwiki, it's been awhile on how to create shortcut, cause I can still run the program from the RUN menu, but I can't find the article again, sorry.

I was about to suggest that, becasue all these applications do provide desktop files.
I've never used KDE and I'm not sure if it's a bug or not. Maybe there's a way to refresh the application list and load the shortcuts w/o re-logging.

Java Web Start 1.6 fails to start application without Java Consol on Vista

Hi All,
I've faced with problem related to starting my application in IE 7 on Vista SP1 using Java Web Start (JRE 1.6.0_12 and 1.6.0_13). I suppose that issue appears after 11th update of JRE 1.6 since it works fine before.
There were set settings to indicate initial and maximal size of the Java heap in the JNLP file.
Application consist of 2 JAR files and they are signed with the same certificate.
When user tried to start application there is no any activity after accepting certificate. After starting application javaw.exe just disappeared from processes list without any message or error.
When I changed default setting in Java Control Panel to show Java Console, I noticed that the application began to start. But it's not a solution of the issue, since all customers cannot be required to turn on Java console.
I believe this is a bug in JRE as the application starts with Java console and doesn't without it.
When I browsed the web looking for the solution or an advice I found Release notes for 1.6.0_014 where it was said that 6u14 Java Web Start failed to launch and notifies that JARs were not signed, if an insecure Java system property was specified in a sandbox JNLP file. In spite of that 14th updated wasn't used and there was no notification I tried to start application without settings for the Java heap and it worked.
Could someone help me with advice, since the application cannot be started with default heap size settings.

as the 6u15 just arrived and the above mentioned bug should've been fixed (though I was unable to verify through the release notes), the error is still in there.
We have no timestamped jars, neither ours nor the bouncy castle ones, all certs are valid, ours is self signed.
6u13 runs, 6u14/6u15 won't.
I followed the instructions here: http://bouncycastle.org/devmailarchive/msg10415.html to no avail.
The bcprov.jar is wrapped in its own jnlp and referred as extension from the "main" jnlp.
The interesting parts of the stack trace are these:

For me it seems there's a problem with resolving the url of the bcprov.jar, which would explain the lack of a delay which normally occurs when JCE verifies the signature of the bcprov provider classes. The error pops up almost instantly.
I'm clueless what to do now. Did Sun really achieve to completely destroy JCE provider functionality in Javaws, forcing us to use an alternative implementation?

I read about how you are trying to borderless print on A4 size media and it's not working out so well. After checking the printer specifications (below), you can see that this model of printer does not support borderless printing.

Launching Web Start Program from an Applet?

Hi,
I need to launch web start program from an applet.
How can I do that?
I have tried opening a new web page pointing to the jnlp file from an applet. But, that does not seem to start the web start.

How can I run an external program without quitting Firefox?

I want to run an external program from within Firefox, much as Outlook express is run from the email button. How do I set this up?
Firefox doesn't import my Bookmarks from the listed html file. Any cure for this?

Call Applecare, though with FCS years out of date, they may want to charge you to trouble shoot.
A couple of things to verify before you call them -
1. Make sure you have a full (not upgrade) version.
2. Make sure you are entering the numbers correctly. look VERY closely at the numbers and letters to make sure you don't mistake a 1 for I and 0 for O.
I find it useful to read them out load when entering. It may be helpful to have someone else read/ check the serial along with you.

Can't use backspace in ncurses programs without using ctrl

Heya
Anyone know how to use the backspace in ncurses programs without the need to press ctrl? If I don't it just gives me "^?", I've tried setting "urxvt*backarrowKey: false/true" but it doesn't help.
Any help with this annoyance would be appreciated.

Just for the heck of it, try using the number 127 instead of KEY_BACKSPACE or what ever your'e using in your if statement or select statement. I would have thought it would be the number 08 which is the ascii code for backspace but that didn't work. Try it and see if it works. If it does, I'll let you know what steps I took to try and find it.
I used the numbers 13 and 27 in my program instead of KEY_RETURN and KEY_ESC, since neither of those worked. KEY_RETURN required a <shift><return> to work properly which is similar to your problem.
