Kde4 configuration files problem ... [solved]

This is what's going on: I start the kde session (I log in as user via kdm) and everything seems to be fine ...for a while! Then suddenly I'm starting to get messages such as "Configuration file /home/tbuta/.kde4/share/config/konquerorrc" not writable for just about everything I try to open - dolphin, konqueror, konsole, ksysguard, etc
I checked the permissions and everything seems fine - the files and folders are still owned by the user/group
Anyway, I tried a sudo chown -R for the user home folder and I'm getting a "chown: changing ownership of `/home/tbuta': Read-only file system". So I'm thinking if as I said above, the file permissions are actually ok, and I'm getting a "Read-only file system" when I'm trying to chown, it seems to me that somehow the home folder becomes read only in the middle of my kde session?? It's getting exasperating ... if I can't fix this soon, I'm afraid I'll have to leave kde for now ...

This is REALLY annoying - the problem is back ... I just don't understand what's causing it.
Another thing I noticed is that now for some "non-pure-kde" apps such as firefox, skype - if they were open and then closed, when I try to reopen them again I'm getting a message that an istance is already running (although I can't see any firefox or skype, etc via ksysguard - and a killall command gives me the "no process killed message"...)
Also, when the problems start, if I try to log out of kde and log back in - it won't let me. Once I log out I can't log back in - it gets stuck on the kde splash screen. Trying to restart kdm will also fail. However, if I reboot the computer, I can log in as usual and work for a while .... until everything goes crazy again!
The only other problem I noticed is that there seems to be something wrong with preload. And a /etc/rc.d/preload restart always has somehow "strange" results. Could the two be related?

  • Log4j: XML configuration file problem

    Hello,
    I set up some logging in my existing application with log4j and an xml configuration file. Now I made some changes to my package structure, and some problems occured. So I thougt of setting the logging level of one of my loggers (named myapp.iointerface.DBAccess in the config file). So the only change I did was adding a <param name="Level" value="TRACE"/> to my logger. Now, log4j complains when it reads the configruation file:
    log4j:WARN Continuable parsing error 36 and column 11
    log4j:WARN The content of element type "logger" must match "(level?,appender-ref*)".My config file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

         </root>
    </log4j:configuration>Does anybody know what's wrong with that? I don't understand and found nothing googling it netiher. The strange thing is, that logging messages with level TRACE are recorded in the destination file, but the level id DEBUG.
    Thx,
    Julien

    If you look at the error, the parser expects level and not Level
    So :
    <param name="Level" value="TRACE"/>should be :
    <param name="level" value="TRACE"/>Same goes for :
    <param name="Level" value="DEBUG"/>That will solve the problem (even though it is not a critical error)!

  • Xrpcc configuration file problem

    Hi,
    I want to use "xrpcc" to generate stubs from an existing WSDL file ( BabelFishService ) to build a translator client. My configuration file "config.xml" has the following form:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <configuration xmlns="http://java.sun.com/jax-rpc-ri/xrpcc-config">

    packageName="translator">

    </configuration>
    but "xrpcc -client -verbose config.xml" fails with the following error message:
    error: invalid element "{http://java.sun.com/jax-rpc-ri/xrpcc-config}configuration" in configuration file (line 2)
    It seems that the tag "configuration" is not recognized. I use the Java Web Service Developer Pack 1.0 under Windows NT 4.0 and JDK 1.4.0. The "xrpcc" version is "JAX-RPC Reference Implementation (1.0, build FCS-R7)".

    nas on airport extreme not recognized by time machine. same nas was previously used as time machine backup on different airport extreme. are there any configuration files that i can delete to fix this problem ?

    Time Machine has been working just fine, but in the last week or two it has given up the ghost. I reset the connections to the drive, and it will basically save a few bytes of data and then hang.
    Although Apple originally announced, prior to the release of the first 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Stations (AEBSn), that it would support Time Machine backups to AirPort Disks, they removed that option before they did finally release the base station for sale.
    Since then, Apple has posted (as you have noted) that they DO NOT support Time Machine backups to AirPort Disks. As far as I know, they have not changed from that position and those who do these backups find that they become corrupted over time. Sorry, but it sounds like you just confirmed that for yourself.
    1) Has one of the recent updates either on the AE (firmware) or OSX disabled this function?
    No. Again, this feature has never been supported by Apple for every generation of AEBSn released.
    2) Are there any changes I can make to get this working again?
    If your data backups are critical to you, then you will want to use a different solution for your Time Machine backup destination drive strategy. I would suggest that you connect your WD My Book directly to your Mac in the mean time.
    Your other options would be to either use a Time Capsule (which interestingly does support TM backups to AirPort Disks) or a non-Apple solution like the Drobo FS or HP MediaSmart server.

  • Problems saving values in the configuration file

    Hello,
    I'm upgrading one of my projects from VS2005 (with .NET 2.0) to VS2013 (with .NET 4.5). I have a setup project in my solution, but this is no longer supported and I have to change to InstallShield
    deployment project. With the old setup project my app runs fine, but now with InstallShield I have a problem. I install the application in this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\AppName. I use .config file to read and write some parameters.
    Reading parameters goes well, but when I write new values in the .config file a get one error. When I used the old setup project, at writing time the system created new .config file in C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\AppName
    (this is named isolated storage, isn't it? :S).
    These are all changes I made in the solution:
    When I opened the solution with VS 2013 the migration process went well (some warnings and messages) except setup project (of course).
    I upgrade all projects to .NET Framework 4.5 (Project properties -> Application -> Target framework).
    I have intalled InstallShielld Limited Edition and added and configured the new deployment project.
    I think that these are all changes. And this is the source code where I get the exception:
    public void SetXParamValue(string value)
    try
    Configuration conf = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(Application.ExecutablePath);
    conf.AppSettings.Settings["XParam"].Value = value;
    conf.Save();
    catch (Exception e)
    MessageBox.Show("Error setting X param.");
    And this is the exception:
    Exception messsage:

    > "With the old setup project my app runs fine"
    Actually, I disagree.  Your configuration file is sitting alongside your application, in a directory that
    should be protected from changes by "regular" users and it's
    only running because Windows is intercepting your attempt to write under C:\Program Files* and rerouting those attempts to a "Virtual Store" location.  By the sounds of it, something your new installer is doing is [quite rightly]
    stopping this from happening (IIRC, virtualisation can be turned off for a program and, IMHO,
    should be).
    You need to move the configuration file to a location that the user can write to (somewhere under C:\Users\username), even if you have to copy it the very first time it's needed.

  • Problem in reading the JDK1.4Logger configuration file from java prog

    I have written a java program and want to log the messages in a log file , I'm using commons logging with JDK1.4logger as logging subsystem .
    I am facing the problem in reading the JDK1.4Logger configuration file which is commons-logging .properties file from my java program as a result my log messages are appearing directly on the screen while I try to run program , during compilation no error is shown . I have tried to set java.util.logging.config.file ="Path of my commons-logging .properties file " by setting system properties also.
    Please suggest the appropriate solution for this .

    Some webservers won't recognise the resource bundle provided in message-resources
    In that case, you need to specify that resource bundle information in web.xml at the time of specifying the action servlet like this. Check for the init-param application.
    <servlet>
        <servlet-name>action</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class>org.apache.struts.action.ActionServlet</servlet-class>
        <init-param>
          <param-name>application</param-name>
          <param-value>resource.ApplicationResource</param-value>
        </init-param>
        <init-param>
          <param-name>config</param-name>
          <param-value>/WEB-INF/struts-config.xml</param-value>
        </init-param>
        <init-param>
          <param-name>debug</param-name>
          <param-value>2</param-value>
        </init-param>
        <init-param>
          <param-name>detail</param-name>
          <param-value>2</param-value>
        </init-param>
        <init-param>
          <param-name>validate</param-name>
          <param-value>true</param-value>
        </init-param>
        <load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup>
      </servlet>In this, the drawback is, you can not specify the key for your resource bundle. In the JSP, you have to access the property like this.
    <bean:message key="label.fName"/>

    What problem?
    You will have to be _a lot_ more specific if you'd like responsible feedback.
    I export thousands of TIFF and JPG files a week with no obvious faults.

  • [solved] trying to figure out BASH configuration files

    I am trying to figure out where to properly place commands in the many stated/existing BASH configuration files —reading the wiki and the man page I see there are what at first glance are too many files:
    from: http://www.gnu.org/software/bash/manual … rtup-Files
    invoked as an interactive login shell or with --login:
    1. executes /etc/profile
    2. executes-first-one-of-the-following: ~/.bash_profile
    2. executes-first-one-of-the-following: ~/.bash_login
    2. executes-first-one-of-the-following: ~/.profile
    from: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/bash#Configuration
    configuration file sourcing order at startup ... by default in arch:
    /etc/profile (indirectly) sources /etc/bash.bashrc
    /etc/skel/.bash_profile (which users are encouraged to copy to ~/.bash_profile) sources ~/.bashrc
    which means that /etc/bash.bashrc and ~/.bashrc will be executed for all interactive shells whether they are login shells or not
    It isn't clear to me what exactly means file#1 "indirectly sources" file#2: including ? append target file ? use file#2 instead of file#1 ?
    It isn't clear either if ~/.bash_login and/or ~/.bash_logout are ignored (or not) in arch
    so /etc/profile should be the (preferred) system-wide configuration file ?
    so ~/.bash_profile should be the (preferred) user-specific configuration file ?
    If so, does it means I should delete /etc/bash.bashrc (this is where I currently have system-wide commands) in favor of (ie: moving the content to) /etc/profile ?

    First and foremost: thanks for the replies.
    Ziusudra wrote:As the Wiki states ...
    I am fully aware of what the wiki is stating —I even included the link in my first post. The problem is not that I am not aware of what it is stating, it is just I don't understand it and thus my post to begin with. More precisely; this highlighted line:
    Note: /etc/bash.bashrc is non-standard, only some distributions like Arch Linux have this included because packagers have added a -DSYS_BASHRC="/etc/bash.bashrc" flag at compilation time, in order to have a system bashrc file.
    which clearly states /etc/bach.bashrc is non-standard was the first hint to me that these files were legacy/going-to-be-deprecated/something-like-this (my assumption) in favor of newer (my assumption) /etc/profile and ~/.bash_profile
    Maybe I am asking some obvious question (this is why I am asking it in the newbie corner) but please, have in mind that for someone coming from the Windows world some things/concepts are totally alien at first sight, for eg: in Windows you start Powershell and you have one (only one) place to set your configuration options and the like. Here I am offered with:
    • 2 possible system-wide files: /etc/profile and /etc/bash.bashrc
    • 2 possible user-specific files: ~/.bash_profile and ~/.bashrc
    • 1 possible user-specific files: ~/.bash_login (and ~/.bash_logout)
    ... so I have (at least) 5 different places to execute commands upon login.
    I was carefully reading all the files present on my current installation and now I understand what "indirectly sourced" means: including (if the file is present just insert it here)
    I still don't understand what commands should be placed in which file; for eg: system-wide aliases should be placed in /etc/profile or in /etc/bash.bashrc ?
    One more time, I am not a rocket-scientist nor I am a dummy, but the wiki just states file precedence without offering any details as best practices or something like that and just figure out: that for such a basic-thing I am getting different answers from two users (someone with 6000+ posts) ... either one: or the wiki is not clear or this thing is a little more complex than it seems at first sight ... just my thought.
    Anyway, needless to say, thank you both for your time and patience.

  • [SOLVED] List of configuration files of a package.

    Some files belonging to a package are treated as configuration files (management of *.pacnew and *.pacsave). How can I have the list of files belonging to a package that pacman consider as configuration files?
    [Edited] @tomk: Thanks, didn't have in mind that I had to insist with the -i option -:)

    For installed packages only - pacman -Qii <pkgname> .
    Ref: man pacman, "QUERY OPTIONS", -i, --info

  • No dsn is present in the configuration file in the reporting services 2008

    HI i have found this error in the log file of my reporting services ,

    it shows the empty tags,
    and my Current Report Server Report Credentials are Windows,Service account credentails

    once this is  resolved now able to send the emails using subscriptions.
    pls infom abut this , i have sufferd this problem last 20 days.
    Please update the above query with high priority

    Hi Ychinnari,
    According to your description, you found error in log file of reporting services, when you come to rsreportserver.config file, the DSN tag is empty.
    DSN specify the database server that hosts the report server database connection string.  The report server database is created, this value will be encrypted and added to the configuration file. To solve the problem, we need to connect to either an
    existing report server database or create a new one for this instance. For detail information, please refer to the following steps:
    Start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and connect to the report server instance for which you are creating the database.
    On the Database page, click Change Database.
    We can create a new report server database or select an existing database, then click Next.
    Connect to the instance of the Database Engine that you will use to create and host the report server database.
    Specify properties used to create the database.
    Specify the credentials used by the report server to connect to the report server database.
    Review the information on the Summary page to verify the settings are correct, and then click Next.
    Verify the connection by clicking a URL on the Report Server URL page or Report Manager URL page.
    For detail information about Configure a Report Server Database Connection, please refer to the following document:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159133.aspx

  • How to create a configuration file for open ldap.

    hi,
    I have installed open ldap on my machine. Now I want to configure it to NetWeaver.
    For this, I started configuration through configtool utility of NetWeaver. While configuring, we need to select or upload configuration file. But now as it is open ldap we need to write our own config file.
    I tried it by selecting dataSourceConfiguration_ads_deep_readonly_db.xml  as a configuratio file. it shows successful test connection but the user which  I have created is not appearing in UME store.
    Does any body having solution for this?
    I am trying to solve this problem from two days. I really appriciate one who will sove this problem

    Well the configuration file you chose does not allow users created in NetWeaver to be created in the LDAP.  That's why it's a "readonly" configuration.  I would guess that you need a custom configuration file specifically for open ldap.
    This should help get you started on a custom configuration file:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/b7/14d43f2dd44821e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
    Then again, if the only problem with the .XML file you chose is that you can't write to the LDAP, give the dataSourceConfiguration_ads_writeable_db.xml configuration file a shot.

  • Configuration file /dbentities/common/bc4j.xcfg is not found in classpath

    Hello,
    I used database data control and drag & dropped onto the page.If I clean and build & then run its fetching the data but if run project without build then I get the following exception.
    Configuration file /dbentities/common/bc4j.xcfg is not found in the classpath.

    I used depreceted method for getting BindingContainer as follows
    *public BindingContainer getBindings() {*
    FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    Application app = fc.getApplication();
    *ValueBinding vb = app.createValueBinding("#{bindings}");*
    *return (BindingContainer)vb.getValue(fc);*

    Hi,
    Open your application module ->configuration then click on the link of bc4j.xcfx
    when it is open check the path of your bc4j file which will be show on the title bar when u open the bc4j.xcfx file.
    match that path and your error path sourly it will not be match .Now open your project from program file ond copy the bc4j.xcfx and past it here(..../dbentities/common/bc4j.xcfg (at same path where it showed in error )) now again reopen your project then do clean and build all after that your problem will b solved.But carefully the path will have to same as show in your log.
