Keeps losing user compose settings

I have selected 'compose int HTML' and have selected 'large Helvetica,Arial' as my working font. Regularly, while creating an email, I will delete a letter or do something and the editor reverts back to the original 'default' font and size. Why? and how do I stop that?
I also have a multi-line HTML signature file which is added to the email. If I accidentally delete the last character of the message body so that the signature wraps up to the line I am on, it loses all line formatting i.e. it goes from a 7-line signature to a 1-line signature and I have to edit that. Why can't the signature be a 'protected block' at the end of my email and not be affected by my editing?

Have you reset PRAM with the monitor connected?

  • Keep losing default application settings

    Hello,
I have a recurring, intermittent problem where every few start-ups certain applications lose there default status. For example, upon opening Entourage, I will occasionally get the message asking whether I want to make it my default email application. I have set Entourage as my default email app several times, but this status is lost every once in a while. The same thing happens with Adobe Acrobat for opening PDFs.
This behavior seems random and not associated with crashes or other system problems. This is on a new Aluminum 15" PB running 10.4.3.
    Any thoughts? Thanks

    Hi Mark --
Does anyone know if these settings are stored in the Power Management Unit?
The following excerpt is from an Apple Kbase article on resetting the PMU:
The Power Manager is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is usually on the logic board of the PowerBook and iBook. As the name implies, it is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.
Over time, the settings in the Power Manager may become unusable, which can result in operational anomalies with the computer. Examples include not turning on, not waking from sleep, not charging the battery, or not seeing the AC Adapter, among other things.
Doesn't seem like your problem resides in the PMU.

  • Firefox keeps losing toolbar settings

I have a big issue since upgrading to Firefox 4.
It keeps losing my icons and custom toolbars!
    It happens completely at random.
To get them back I have to restart in safe mode, tick the box "Reset
    toolbars and controls" and reopen.
Sometimes when I right click "Customise" is greyed out.
Any ideas - it is getting to the point where I will dump firefox!

    hi gurumukhi,
Thanks for the reply but I think you misunderstand the problem. I'm not asking how to set sync up again, I'm asking why Firefox keeps losing the sync settings in the first place. It often gets lost on all 3 of my computers so even your suggested solution doesn't always work and the only way out is to delete the account on Mozilla's website and set it up on all the computers from scratch.
I thought about this a bit more and it seems the one constant in causing FF to lose the sync information is that it happens soon after a FF version upgrade. This is recent as of about v22 or so - used to work perfectly before then.
If anyone knows of a solution that would be great.
    Thanks

  • AA3 keeps losing Audio Hardware Setup settings...

I work in a broadcast center with a number of AA3 machines that keep losing their Audio Hardware Setup settings. It keeps switching from the LynxONE drivers to Audition 3.0 Windows Sound. I can find no documentation on this.
I've found that the trigger is when AA3 has "release ASIO driver in background" NOT checked, and the user minimizes it and plays something from another audio program. Then they have to go in and set it back again before AA3 will pass audio again.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks.

In the Options menu. Device Properties. Then you have tabs for Wave In and Wave Out amongst others. Also you may need to also set Device Order from the same Options menu.

  • Wireless phone keeps losing IP settings

I have a wirless 7920 wirless phone that keeps losing IP settings, on the front screen it says "Authentication OK" but when tries to get a IP address it fails. The Wlan controller is 4400 series model number 4402

Not sure if this will help, but people across the country are experiencing difficulties with the roll-out AT&T/SBCglobal/Comcast ISP. They used to pass Internet traffic through their lines like telephone calls, but now their routers have a number of global security measures. These routers now must be programmed for IP passthrough, which assigns devices their own ISP based on the device IP plus an additional ISP identity. In addition, the routers must be programmed to open the ports required for the specific services that the user wants to enable. They couldn't figure out if the higher security settings should be default, or not, so certain events trigger the higher security settings, like traffic from foreign network or an http request within another http request, etc.

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Maybe ask someone in the Apple iPad forum.  This is the Snow Leopard forum.

  • My Macbook keeps losing the desktop appearance and keyboard settings. How to fix this?

My Macbook Pro keeps losing the desktop appearance and keyboard settings randomly after going to sleep. They go back to default settings. I run the very last update of Snow Leopard.
How to fix this once and for all?

How do I cleanly disconnect.  I usually go to File, quit RDC.
someone told me that it could be my old macbook tying it up but most everything has been wiped off of that computer.

  • How can I add an iPad to Apple Configurator without losing the user's settings, folders, etc?

When attempting to add an iPad that has already been in use (for some time) by a particular user into Apple Configurator, I end up having to either wipe the iPad entirely as if it is a new iPad, or restore the user's settings and configuration from iCloud during mini-setup. It seems to be one choice or the other.
Is there a way to add the "old" iPad into Apple Configurator for management purposes yet still be able to restore the user's settings from iCloud? That is - items like: folders, pictures, email settings, app data?

This isnt true. Connecting an unsupervised device to configurator and supervising it will wipe the device, there is no way around that. You can attempt an iCloud restore from here, but anything not backed up prior to supervising the device will be erased when supervising it. I have never tried to restore data from an unsupervised iPad so I have no clue if everything will come back.
Let me clarify... You can successfully restore an iCloud backup of an unsupervised iPad to a new (i.e. different) iPad and have it Supervised with data intact. The process below will allow Configurator to Supervise a device without wiping it when an iCloud backup from a different unsupervised iPad is restored to it.
Try it… Get 2 new unsupervised iPads… we'll call them iPad "A" and iPad "B." Take iPad "A" and install a few apps, take a few photos, change the background, create a new document in Pages, etc. Run an iCloud backup of iPad "A" using your Apple ID. This is our unsupervised backup of iPad "A."
Now take new unsupervised iPad "B" and start running through the setup assistant. When you get to the restore screen, choose to restore from iCloud backup. Log in with your Apple ID. Select the backup for iPad "A." The backup will restore and then the iPad will restart. Once it restarts, you get to a "Hello" screen on the iPad. At this point, plug the iPad into your Configurator computer. On the Prepare screen, turn Supervision ON and select "Don't restore backup." Click Prepare.
Configurator will not wipe the iPad. It will run through the supervision process but not wipe it. Once complete, you'll see that iPad "B" is now exactly the same as iPad "A", but if you go to Settings -> General -> Profiles on iPad "B" you will see a Supervision profile installed.
The key here is to use a different iPad from the originally backed up iPad. You can't restore the backup of iPad "A" to iPad "A" again and supervise it without wiping it. But you can take the backup of unsupervised iPad "A" and restore it to iPad "B" and retain apps, data, and settings of iPad "A" but with the Supervision profile.
    Hope this clarifies things!
    ~Joe
I see where your going with that. I dont have any way to reproduce this scenario in my environment, but I will take your word for it that this works. I have only ever plugged in an unsupervised device to configurator and gone through the setup, which always wipes the device. If your saying theres a way around that you should give that a shot OP.

Then why are you even asking here.  Obviously you know Verizion could never possibly have network issues.
Every network has issues from time to time, no network, company, or person is perfect.
Try basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide and contact Verizon to ensure they are not having issues.

  • External drive conntected to Time Capsule keeps losing connection

I've been having this problem since I bought my TC over one year ago. Other than this everything works fine (aside from the occasional need for a restart).
I have an external 500GB drive attached to my 500GB TC via usb. I use the TC strictly for backups and the other drive to host my media files. When I want to use those files I switch on the drive. Only about half of the time does that work. When it does work everything is fine. I see the drive in the finder as expected.
When it doesn't work, I can see the drive name in the finder. But if I click to go into the folder, I get an error saying that the connection cannot be found.
It shows up in the Airport Utility as normal.
Powering the drive off and on does not help.
Relaunching the finder doesn't help either.
The only way I can connect to the drive again is to either logoff and log back into my mac, or restart the TC.
It seems that my computer is remembering some kind of network disk mounting settings that don't get refreshed when I turn on the drive, but then do get refreshed when I logoff and back in. Does anyone know how I could force that refresh to happen? Has anyone had this problem before?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
PS all my software and firmware are the latest.
    Thanks.

Left click on the Finder icon from the Dock and click "Connect to server...", go to recent server and click on your Airport Time Capsule.

  • How do I reinstall Yosemite while keeping my personal files & settings?

    Hi,
I am running Yosemite (10.10.2) on my 2013 Macbook Air and its in need of some love. Most notably, my Notes app has broken (it crashes on every attempt to open it) and my bluetooth has gone haywire (device detection and personal hotspot works when they feel like it), my display will randomly go black and is becoming an increasingly mysterious and lengthy process to get it back (normally just mashing keys and opening and closing the lid several times over). Thats just the half of it.
I want to say the mass majority of these issues began after signing myself up to receive all these alpha, beta, omega, apple tree pre-seed, under-cooked releases or whatever apple pushes down the pipeline. Needless to say, I feel its time to reinstall my OS though I am quickly discovering that this whole process was significantly easier in a Windows environment which seems really counter-intuitive considering well, this is Apple and things are just supposed to work like magical butter.
So I ended up reinstalling Yosemite through the Recovery Utility (CMD+R). It downloaded from the internet and installed. My personal files were kept intact but it didn't fix my Notes app as it still kept quitting unexpectedly when trying to launch it. So I opted to perform a clean install. I quickly realized this was a TERRIBLE idea as I was unable to recover important settings like my keychain passwords, my email accounts and so forth. Thankfully I made a time machine backup before attempting any of this so I am right back where I started (sort of).
    I need some help please.
My goal is to perform a clean install of Yosemite to rid myself of these OS oddities meanwhile keeping everything important. This includes, most notably:
my personal document, photo and music files
    my iTunes library
my iPhoto library (and more importantly, the settings, albums tags, image edits etc etc) that I've made over the years
    my keychain passwords
my email accounts (it took me almost an hour to setup and properly configure all 9 of my email accounts and i don't want to go through that again)
my calendar and events within it
Other settings I would like to keep, but am willing to sacrifice are:
    my iMessage history
    my applications
my user experience settings; things like the dock size and behaviour, track pad scroll speed etc etc etc. I'm on the fence with this one since I've plugged in so much sudo code into terminal trying to accomplish things in the past, that I fear theres some settings that shouldn't be restored.
So Apple community, what say thee; what is my best course of action?
    Thank you,
    -Brendon

Oh boy... throughout all of this i think I've really done a number. In trying to execute the instructions in the link you provided, I receive this error while trying to access my internet accounts panel under system preferences:
    "Preferences Error
Could not load Internet Accounts preference pane."
    What have I done lol...

  • Keep losing my desktop picture on macbook

I have my macbook pro linked to a samsung syncmaster SA550. i keep losing my desktop picture, when i leave the machine and return it from sleep mode, I am left with a grey screen, sometimes with no icons?

Probably the desktop picture is no longer on the macbook but on the syncmaster. Make sure that the desktop picture (itself, and not an alias) is on your macbook (e.g. the pictures folder) and set it again in the SystemPreferences/Desktop settings.

I bought a new MacBook Pro several months ago.  I keep losing my wireless connection (my wife, sitting several feet from me has no problem with her iPad2).  I find the quickest fix ix to turn Airport off and back on.  Very annoying.   Suggestions please?

What kind of wireless router are you using? more importantly which protocol are you connecting with? Are you and wife connecting using the 2.4Ghz band? or do you have a dual band router that offers the 5GHZ band?  Are you both connecting vie 802.11 a/b/g or n?
The best thing to do is to go into SYSTEM PREFERENCES and select NETWORK, then select AIRPORT and click on the ADVANCED button.
Under the AirPort tab you should delete all the preferred networks and only add back in your network with the proper security settings and passwords.
If you hold down the option key on your keyboard while clicking on the airport icon at the top on your macbook pro. you'll seesome data that will tell you what band and mode you're connecting at, as well as in an indication of signal strength (RSSI) if you write down and post back that information it'll tell us what's going on.
