Keithley 2440 source meter, 4 wire measurement

Dear all,
I'm using keithley 2440 sourcemeter to measure the resistance value with 4 wire. I downloaded LabView driver, tested an example program , and
it works fine.
I tried to measure the resistance with 4 wire, so I put the "Enable Remote Sensing.vi" before the "Read Single.vi" , but it generated the error "#803"
which is "Not permitted with OUTPUT off". If I disabled the Remote Sensing, then it works with 2 wire mode.  I'm using LV8.2 and I've attached the program.
Could you help me with figuring out this problem?
Thank you very much.

  • Problem with Keithley 2400 source meter

    Hello all,
I tried to controll a keithley 2400 source meter with Labtracer using a NI GPIB-USB-HI card but when I run the test is send me this error message: "There was ab error reported on Visa Read in Query. Test aborted. Error code: -1073807339"
is this card (NI GPIB-USB-HI) able to controll keithley 2400 source meter ?
the keithley 2400 source meter screen show "REM TALK" during the running of the program,
I installed NI488227 in my computer (windows XP) and also "Agilent Connection Expert", this later also show no possibilty to connect with the Keithley meter, I attached a file for  "Agilent Connection Expert".
    Any help is appreciated
    Thank you by advance

Follow the preliminary steps to first check if the device is able to communicate via the GPIB-USB convertor.
navigate to: Start>>National Instruments>>NI 448.2>>Interactive control.  Use this utility to query the GPIB device for some standard commands for e.g.: *IDN?
There is also a GPIB analyzer in the above path which you can use to verify the device connectivity to the system.
Also for communicating the with 3rd party GPIB devices always enable " NIVisa Tulip.dll" which will help recognising the device in max.  Look at the picture to enable this option in max.
    post back for queries

  • Keithley 2635a source meter error 5038

    Hi All,
I'm trying to control a Keithley 2635a source meter using labview but my source meter outputs an error every time I try to run the VI "error 5038: SMUA index exceeds maximum reading"
I've looked at one other post on this topic but I can't figure out  why I keep getting this error.
I've attached my VI's to this post.
    Thanks for your help.

    I fixed the problem.
I wasn't setting the number of measurements to be taken by the buffer. I needed to use a Keithley sub VI called configure measure so that the measure sub VI would know how many
    measurements to take.
If anyone has a similar problem using the buffer on a Keithley 2600 series SMU then reply to this post and I'll see if I can help you out.
    Thanks again.

  • Does signalexpress support keithley 2400 series source meter?

I am a stranger to labview, but willing to use Labview signalexpress 2.5 to realize data acquisition from keithley 2000 multimeter and keithley 2410c source meter.
After installation of drivers for 2000 and 2410 download from NI.com, I was able to choose the driver of keithley 2000 from signalexpress at the device setup, and It work well for data acquisition. However when I duplicate the same process for keithley 2410c, the driver installed was not availabe for selection. There are a few of drivers for 2400 series at NI.com, I downloaded the file of 16M for labview. Is it available for labview signalexpress?
By the way, both device were availbe in the GPIB (from the MAX, tests passed ) with different GPIB address.
    Thanks for your help~

    Lynn,
If memory serves me correctly this is possible.
The easiest way I got it working was to first get it all ticking along ok in their Lua based IDE, then once the script was working perfectly I just used LV to send the script as text to the instrument over GPIB. Worked a treat.

  • I need GPIB Driver for Keithley 263 Calibrator/Source Meter using Labview. Can anybody help? Thank you.

I need GPIB Driver for Keithley 263 Calibrator/Source Meter using Labview. Can anybody help?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
on Keithley's website is explained :
"The Model 263 offers a more economical, more precise alternative to the Model 6430 or the Model 236 when used as a low-current source. It is used almost exclusively as a current calibrator."
    This leads to Model 236.... A LabVIEW-driver is available @: http://search.ni.com/query.html?lk=1&col=alldocs&nh=500&rf=3&ql=&pw=595&qp=%2BContentType%3AInstrumentDriver+%2BIDNetManufacturer%3A%22Keithley%22&qt=&layout=IDNet
Maybe you have to "reconstruct" some parts - but it will help.

  • Reading with high impedance output (Keithley 2440)

    Hi all,
I am using Keithley 2440 and I am going to charge a capacitor and then measure the voltage of that capacitor to see how fast it discharges BY ITSELF. So I need to set the output to High Impedance and measure the voltage.
But my problem is how I can measure while I set the output to High Impedance. I made a vi to do that. But during discharging, Keithley voltage remains the same as charging. So, obviously I am not using High Impedance correctly.
Is there any tutorial for measuring voltage and/or current at High Impedance output setting?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes. I looked at the examples that come from Keithley 24XX deriver (vi attached). I suppose that impedance of voltage measurement is high enough so that it does not affect the capacitor that I am going to do measurement on. So I can use Keithley to just measure the voltage.
But, the problem with all "measurement" examples that I've seen is that you need to set an output level to be able to measure it! Why should I need to set output if I want to measure it?
    Thanks!

  • PLEASE HELP!!what is the function of this keithley output source VI?

i would like to know what does "trigger delay","sour delay","NPLC","arm count" do in this example. Please help!! thanks!!=D!!
    Attachments:
    24xx Swp-I Meas-V gpib.llb ‏687 KB

I didn't open your example (I'm not at my work computer), but here is an explanation of the terms:
Trigger delay is the amount of time between a DMM being given a command to take a reading, and the actual reading being taken.  Lets say you want to read the voltage on line A exactly one second after the voltage on line B goes above 2V.  You set the DMM for external trigger with line B connected to the external trigger input on the DMM.  THen set Trigger Delay for 1 second.  Then send the command to read the DMM (Read?).  The DMM will become armed (waiting for trigger).  When line B goes above 2V, the DMM will wait one more second, then read line A.  If you don't want to wait to take a reading, set the trigger to immediate.
Sour stands for source.  I've never heard of source delay.
NPLC is the Number of Power Line Cycles.  In the U.S., we use 60Hz power (50Hz in Europe), so one power line cycle is 1/60 seconds.  When setting NPLC, the DMM will take continuous readings for that length of time, then take an average of all the readings and return this value.  Setting NPLC to 10 will make the DMM take readings ofr 10/60, or 1/6 seconds, and return the average of all readings.  How many readings can be taken during that time interval depends on the DMM, the range setting, and the resolution setting.
Not sure about "arm count", but "arm" means that the DMM has been given a command to read but has not yet received the trigger to take the reading.
Reading a DMM through GPIB involves a series of events:  Arming (GPIB command to read or measure), triggering (immediate or delayed, internal or external), measuring (one measurement or several for averaging), then returning the measurement.

  • How to use DMM,Source Meter,Swtiching to measure insulation resistance?

    1

    Fense18,
I cannot tell from your question if you are asking what equipment you would need to make an insulation resistance measurement, or how to make one with instruments you already own.
If you do not already have the instruments you mentioned, please call 1-800-433-3488 and ask for the technical representative from your area. They can assist you in specifying a system that will fit your measurement needs.
If you already own the equipment and want to know more details about making an insulation resistance measurment, please post details about your situation. Some necessary information would be what models of the above mentioned instruments you have, what type of insulation resistance measurement you are trying to make (there are multiple types, according
to this Measurement Encyclopedia entry), and any other information you can provide about the device you are trying to test. I would be glad to give you advice about your application!

  • Swap DC and ground voltages of Keithley 2400 meter

    Hi
I am using Keithley 2400 source meter to apply voltage to my chip. The test that I am performing
    has the following requirements:
In the first stage, I apply DC voltage (from source meter) on one pad (Pad-A) of the chip and ground
(from source meter) on the other pad (Pad - B) and take some capacitance measurements.
In the second stage, I need to swap these voltages i.e. DC voltage to Pad-B and ground to Pad-A.
I am already using a labview code to apply the voltage and make the capacitance measurements.
Is it possible by any chance that I can control the swapping with the labview code automatically,
without having to swap them manually?
    Thank you for the help

Is it important to switch the GROUND?
Or do you only need to switch the polarity of the voltage between your pads?
Sometimes it makes a BIG difference

  • Ethernet communication

I have problem in communicating my instrument through ethernet. I used the standard procedure as described in the following NI page
    http://zone.ni.com/wv/app/doc/p/id/wv-1653
but when I ping to the IP address of my equipment, it does not respond properly in the way as explained in the website. Rather it fails.
My instrument is not connected to network, rather I connect it directly to my LAN port of my Laptop. I need to know if I have to make any changes in my LAN settings. I tried to put the same gateway and subnet  in my laptop as mentioned for the instruments.
The best thing would have been if the NI MAX detects it automatically, but it fails to show any instruments connected by ethernet. I tried with AMTEX Lockin amplifier and Keithley 26XX source meter, but failed..I appreciate any help

  • Please help on this program

    Dear Friends,
With the help of this program I am trying to connect two instruments (One is CM110 monochromator of Spectral products and another one is from Keithley 2400 source meter) with the same programs. With the help of this program I am trying to increase the wavelength of the monochromator by say 10 nm and want to read the current at applied source meter voltage.
But the problem is each execution of while loop it is keeping ON/OFF the souce meter applied voltage . I want to keep the applied source meter voltage on through out the whole while loop and read the current, but I am not able to do so.
Please help me. For your further information I am attaching the LabVIEW Program.
    Thanks in anticipation

  • Peltier control with PID

    Hello,
I have a Keithley 2400 source-meter, and a Keithley 2010 multimeter. I measure temperature of a water loop with a RTD, and I measure its 4W resisitivity with the K2010.
I can cool and also heat this water loop via a Peltier heat-pump. The applicable range is -1Amp < current < +1 Amp. So I use the Keithley source-meter to drive the Peltier in this range. Negative current cools the water, positive current heats.
I have the PID tool-kit with LabView 2011.
My only question is that, if I give  +-1 as range input to the PID.vi, is it a proper way to implement this task?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi blokk,
"ok. so this is not implemented in the Pid toolkit. So when the PID vi using negative output, I have to set the Kc to negative. ... Because it should change the sign of Kc as early as it switches range polarity continuously."
You don't need to change anything, when the PID control is running. You have to set the Kc once to the correct value, that's it! Kc is describing the PID behaviour in terms of "higher output results in heating up and lower output means cooling mode"...
"Should I alter the pid.vi inside?"
Never ever change vi.lib VIs! If you really want to change them (that isn't needed here!), make a copy of the VI and change the copy!

  • Display sink and source of wire on block diagram

A colleague is trying to decipher some LV code we received from a third party, and if ever a block diagram illustrated the term "spaghetti-code" this does. I showed him how the wiring tool will display the name of the source of a wire in the help window, when you hover the tool over the wire in question. He asked if there was a way to display both the source and the sink (yes the code really is that bad). Any ideas?
Oh, I should mention that he really doesn't want to rewrite or modify the code in any way, just understand it.
    Thanks.

Hmm.  If you can I dont know of one.  I'm a cheap engineer though and dont like extra window clutter if I can avoid it.  When I am (usually) faced with spaghetti-code and need to trace things I just tripple click on wires to highlight the whole thing and scroll the window around to find the starting and ending points...
