Kerberos only working on FQDN?

Hi, I have setup my open directory network with Kerberos and added a number of computer records. I am running into trouble when authenticating to the master server using kerberos. When I try to connect to a share on any of the other servers that I added to thw domain all works as expected. However, for me to attach to a share on the main server I have to use the fully qualified domain name to enable kerberos to work. How can I get kerberos to work on the primary server with just the host name?

I have Kerberos only authentication for afp. AFP connects using Kerberos with
afp://host.domain.com, afp://domain.com or afp://host
The realm is set in Kerberos.app on the client and the client has DNS Server set to the server hosting afp when on the lan. When coming in from an external location the afp service is available to the first two connections.
In this case, DNS has a primary zone for domain.com and an A record for host.domain.com
Given the number of variables, I suggest you look at DNS first to ensure the routing can be accomplished, then the kerberos realm used to grant the ticket.
You can use telnet from the terminal to test the connection and observe any messages. Also the client console log will be of benefit.

Cant get kerberos to work

We are going to be setting up a classroom with an OSX server and both windows and mac clients at work. I was the only one willing to do it so I have taken a copy of osx 10.4 server home and have about a month to learn it.
I am behind a NAT router and all my IP addresses are private the server is set as an opendirectory master and I want it to provide single sighn on and kerberos athintication to my powerbook and my windows laptop. Once I figure this out I will take it to work and see if I can get it setup. It will be a similar configuration.
I am at my wits end. I have never tried networking macs and I swear I am going crazy. Over the past few days I have got pretty far but I am stuck now.
This is step by step what I am doing.
Install 10.4 server
when the assistant starts
Disable IPv6
enter my NAT IP, Subnet, Gateway, and the DNS as is the same as the server IP
Check the boxes for the ethernet TCP/IP and appletalk
enable Apple file services
enable Open Directory Master and set password
Somewhere in there I also set the computername and admin password.
Server configures and restarts
After it boots I go to the DNS service set the domain name to ns.domain.com and give it the servers IP
in the machines section I add my powerbooks IP and name and then start the service then reboot.
After reboot I go to the terminal and check the host name just to make sure it is the fully qualified name and it is
Then I do a forward and reverse lookup and they work.
I go back to the Open directory service and everything is running except Kerberos.
I select Kerberize and enter my opendirectory admin name and password.
Kerberos now shows running.
under policy and binding I select enable directory binding and require clients to bind.
I go to my powerbook and under directory access I check ldap and configure enter the domain and OD admin and it binds fine.
I go back to the server and create a mobile user, log in to my power book, and all is well but running klist shows there are no TGT's
I go back to the server check all the boxes under policy and binding
I disjoin the powerbook from the ldap directory and try re-adding it. I get an unexpected error.
From here on out when I authinticate in workgroupmanger as diradmin the create new user icon is greyed out as well as all user settings.
I have wiped the server several times today try several things I found online and the apple knowledge base but nothing works.
What am I doing wrong????

This error is always here after a fresh install for some reason in the directory service error log. But it only happens once and I never see it again.

I also agree that you should choose Standalone Server from the Assistant if you want Kerberos to work. If you don't, then you'll have Open Directory (with Password Server authentication authorities), but no Kerberos.
Since the hostname behavior changes in 10.4.6, I recommend the following:
1. Install Mac OS X Server, and configure the system as a Standalone Server via Assistant.
2. Install the Mac OS X Server 10.4.7 (or later) Combo and restart.
3. Use Server Admin to configure DNS services, add the server's IP address to its own name server list (System Preferences/Network pane), and to its /etc/hosts file, if desired. Or, configure existing DNS services properly.
4. Reboot and test that the hostname command returns the correct DNS name; do a forward/reverse DNS lookup test from a client, as well. (If your server is acting as a DNS server, either add its local IP address to the client's name server list or distribute that via DHCP.)
5. Use Server Admin to promote the server to Open Directory Master; reboot, then create a test user in the LDAP directory and verify that Kerberos is working.
If your server is already configured, you don't have to perform an "erase and install" to get Kerberos working. If your system is already configured as an Open Directory Master, but Kerberos isn't running (and you can't get it working from the command line), I recommend the following procedure, which backs up as much of the LDAP domain as possible, destroys it, then restores what you backed up. The side effect is that users must reset their passwords, as that information is lost:
1. Use Workgroup Manager to export your users, groups, and computer lists records from the directory. Names, UIDs, GIDs, GUIDs, and MCX records will be preserved in the resulting XML files, but passwords will not.
2. Use Workgroup Manager to un-share any automatically mounted share points (home directory share points, shared Libraries, etc.). This is required because the automount node information is stored in both the LDAP directory (mount record) and the server's NetInfo domain (record for the particular share point). Since you'll be destroying your non-Kerberized Open Directory domain, the LDAP directory information will be invalid, even after you create a new one.
Note: The Workgroup Manager Export function is NOT the same as the Server Admin Archive & Restore function for the entirety of the LDAP directory database. We're not trying to keep your LDAP directory; we're just trying to save as much information from it so that it can be recreated.
3. Use the Server Admin/Open Directory section to demote your server to Standalone Server, then reboot.
4. If necessary, apply the Mac OS X Server 10.4.7 Combo update. Ensure that HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC- is in /etc/hostconfig - not any specific value. Reboot.
5. Ensure that DNS is working correctly and that the server's hostname is correct (same as steps 3 and 4 in the first procedure).
6. Promote your server to Open Directory Master using Server Admin; reboot, then check to see if Kerberos is working.
7. Use the Import function in Workgroup Manager to restore your user and group accounts and computer lists. Re-create any share points and establish automatic mounts. Ensure that your users have valid home directories; edit them several at a time to ensure that the correct home directory share point is selected, then assign your users a generic password. (When you reimport the user accounts, there is a blank password assigned, but the authentication authority reverts to Crypt. Although your users can change their passwords later, you must assign them one so that the authentication authority changes to Open Directory. Otherwise, Kerberos won't be used, even if it's running.)
Hope this helps. I'm sure others have a more detailed procedure for saving user password information.

I have an Iad2 and ever since ios6-there are issues.I get occasional lock-ups and have to reboot. The WSJ app freezes when running their videos to the end. The only work-around is to stop the video before it's over. Worse than windows me !!!!!

My Ipad2 worked perfectly before ios6 upgrade. It now freezes occasionally and I have to reboot to get it to work. Also the WSJ app will now freeze if I try and run one of their videos that is imbedded in the article. My only work-around is to stop (press done) before the end of the video or I have to do a total reboot. The problems remind me of Windows ME . Will Apple resolve these issues or become more like Microsoft. Hopefully there will be a restore button in the future like Microsoft was forced to do because a lot of upgrades are just terrible. Am I crazy or are there other people having the same issues with ios6, or could this just be a coincidence and my ipad2 is starting to fail just when ios6 arrives ?

I know this will not help but, the bluetooth headset I purchased for my wife works great and it pairs with our car and our sound bar in the livingroom (Motorola Droid Razr) 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US
However I did not upgrade over the air but from a android web site and placed it on my external sd card. I believe this made the difference in why we had no issues and upgraded functionality has been great.
Please note when I mention these bluetooth devices I mean the Razr connects with no problems.
It also had no internet issues and none of the problems others have complained about in other threads.
unfortunately when you say thousands have these issues I cannot say that is accurate. The hope is when large numbers of owners have updated to the Jelly Bean and are complaining inmase then Motorola will issue a patch to verizon to get out to the affected users.
Of course now that Google owns Motorola Mobility and has laid off loads of workers it may never issue an os patch.

Apple, as I said, does not repair your iPhone. All hardware service issues are handled by replacing the unit. So they can't handle the home-button issue without also addressing the issue of the cracked screen, for which they'll almost certainly charge you. But you can make an appointment at an Apple Store or call Apple tech support and plead your case.

Apple did not begin selling an unlocked version of the iPhone 4S in the US until 11/11/11. I believe it went on sale only through the online store at that time. I'm not sure if it's available at retail yet.
What you purchased was a phone without a contract commitment. It is still locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones for any reason. Return it and get your money back, then use that to purchase an unlocked phone.

This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

DO not use long names with spaces and non-alphanumeric names.
Use short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.

Wireless name TCwifi
Use WPA2 Personal security with 10-20 character pure alphanumeric password.
read apple instructions to help with TM and TC.. they did finally admit it has issues in Mavericks.

I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues? Or have any idea on how I can solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated!

Links should not create any problems in Keynote. If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
Try this repair for Keynote, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

empty the trash: Finder > Empty Trash

Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.

Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions

when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

Automator service to open file in app only works if app is closed

For my work I frequently need to edit text files that have non-standard extensions (and many have no extension at all). So for convenience when browsing in Finder, I created a simple Automator service that opens selected files TextMate:
It works but the problem is that it only works if TM is initially closed before running the service. If it's open when the service runs, the TM menu bar appears but the file doesn't open. If I close TM and re-run the service, the file opens. How should I modify the service so that it will work whether or not TM is initially open or closed? Thanks!

Check with your carrier to see if your plan supports sending of international SMS messages. If you are having trouble activating Facetime or Imessages turn them both off on your device and reset the device (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost)). Wait for the device to restart and wait a minute and turn Facetime and imessage back on and wait for activation. If that does not fix things read the following articles:

I was working on the ATP check when i discovered the only way to actually perform this check correctly was to execute it as a background job. When executing online, the stock is just not committed (even with full confirmation logic set on in the MRP group).
It only works fine from the planned order.
Isn't it possible to run MDVP online ??
Any enlightements on this topic appreciated.

Hi,
You can run the availability check in background with program RLD05000. You have to create variant and schedule this program in batch from SM36 transaction, Out out you can check in spool.

Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

This isn't an issue. Notice the screen prior to the one that shows usage has an iCloud section and a Manage Storage button. For this button to activate ios needs to download a few kb from icloud. Switching back to this screen forces ios to download those few kb.
