That panic is an ordinary page fault (invalid memory reference). The mac Pro uses Error Correcting Code memory, so Bad Memory is not the problem.
    The error occurred here:

These sorts of panics do not happen with any regularity in Mac OS X kernel. But you do not have an un-modified kernel, you have added all these things to it, and they may be contributing to instability:

If you visit the genius Bar, they can help put you on a path to erase your hard drive (after adequate backups, of course) and Install an un-modified copy of Mac OS X with no additions, then restore your files but not your add-ons.
If the panic occurs after that, they will work with you to track down the exact cause.

  • Kernal Panic in Late 2010 MacBook Air...on Shutdown

I have tried several sources of information in Apple Discussions to try to address this problem but to no avail (including the link to debug kernal panics).  I have a late 2010 MacBook Air (4GB RAM 1067 DDR runing 10.8.5--the SSD drive is an OWC 240 GB Aura Pro made especially for the late 2010 MBAs) which is now experiencing kernal panics on every other shutdown (Shutdown only).  I have reset the PRAM and SMC which seemed to work for awhile, but then it went back to frequent kernal panics on shutdown a day or so after resetting the PRAM/SMC.  I have repaired disk permissions and also deleted old programs, but again to no avail.  I am enclosing a copy of the Kernal Panic, and if anyone has any suggestions at this point, I would greatly appreciate it as I can't afford an expensive repair at this point.  Also, is there anyway I can test if my memory and SSD harddrive are still ok?
    Thanks very much,
    Rob

Uninstall the Norton / Symantec product according to its instructions. Verify it is completely eradicated from your system, then ensure that you are running the latest VMware virtualization software.
Also, is there anyway I can test if my memory and SSD harddrive are still ok?
    Apple Hardware Test
You must remove the firmware password, if one has been set, before you can use AHT.
Apple Hardware Test may report SNS alert when power adapter is not connected
Apple Hardware Test may report "HDD" alert

  • Unresolved kernal panic

MacBook Pro 15" 2.2 GHz. Kept getting kernal panics. No disk utitlity would repair hard drive. Replaced Hard Drive. when loading OS, still getting the kernal panic. Did not load any new software or hardware. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Since you're talking about kernal panics ... suddenly my iMac G5 has started acting up. The only thing I've changed is I've upgraded to an airport Extreme.
Can anyone interpret this for me?

After install of Mavericks, it looks like my system kernal panics and just sits there. I tried waiting over two nights. Tried reinstalling twice, booting ro the repair partition and repairs permissions/drive/verify , with no problems. Tried reseting PVRAM(or whateverit called). Recovery partition now has Mavericks as OS. Im running a iMac i3 27 inch circa 2011. Any ideas? Can still bootcamp into windows.
    Thank you

bhadotia wrote:Anyway's the file downloaded from dell to update the partition for Studio 1555 is corrupted (checksums don't match). My partition still doesn't boot. I'm working to fix this and will update my post when I'm done.
The file seems to create the CD/DVD/Image and USB just fine. So I used this only to create a CD image which I then wrote on a blank CD which seems to work fine. Also, I played around a bit and had some partial success in booting the partition. I've updated my original opening post with the new findings.
Whew!! what a waste of time! Never want to do all of this again .

My aperture library will not open after restoring my whole computer after a kernal panic.  I can not get the Aperture troubleshooting menu to open...any help?

    Leonie,
Fisrt let me thank you for your reply and assistance!  So here is the problem with so more detail...I was not sure I was going to get any replies ; )
I restored from a time machine back up.
    History of Failure:
I was trying to launch Aperture when the kernal panic occured.  My computer had been closed, and asleep and the battery was dead.  I plugged in charger and it was restoring/waking up after being asleep/shutting down from dead battery.  I launched Aperture from the dock and as soon as it opened the kernal panic occured.  After that the computer would not turn on.  It would try to boot then it would shut off.  I even tried to safe boot to no avail.  I went to the Apple store and they told me that the only thing I could do was restore whole computer from back up.  So thats what I did.
Since then my previous aperture library: "2011" will not open.  I have created a new aperture library "2012", and it runs fine.  I have added new photos for about the past month...no problems.
When I launch aperture with 2012 library then try to switch libraries, I get the following prompt: "The selected library is from an older version of Aperture and requires a relaunch to switch."  I choose "Relaunch" and I get the following warning prompt: "There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library 20111.aplibrary”."  The only option is "Quit"
    Both libraries are version 3.2.3
    Computer stats: 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, OS X 10.6.8
I have tried to launch aperture troubleshooting by holding option+command from both the aperture icon and from the library file, neither will launch the troubleshooting feature.
I am ok with computers, but not a whiz (mechanical engineer)...to me it seems as though there is a corrupt path or file or some sort of "check" that is failing, becuase the failure occurs so fast after trying to launch aperture. Maybe that doesn't make any sense but just a thought.
I hope that you may be able to provide some insight.  Thank you again for you time and I hope that you have a nice day!
    Mike

Try uninstalling the software that installed these:
    tc.tctechnologies.driver.TCNear    8786
    com.waves.driver.soundgrid    2.0.0
Use the uninstaller provided by the developer of the software. If that eliminates the kernel panics, try reinstalling one at a time to determine which one is causing the problems.
You may be able to update them to current versions that work with Mountain Lion.
Also, if those drivers are for external hardware, disconnect the hardware to test.

  • Any Idea What Caused This Kernal Panic?

Hey everyone, I was on my computer earlier today, and while I was on the internet (Firefox), my computer randomly shut down on me and gave me the whole "Computer was restarted because of a problem" white screen. When I restarted the computer it showed me an error report from a Kernal Panic, and I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me diagnose the issue so that it doesn't happen again?

  • MacPro Randomly Restarts with Black Screen, Kernal Panic

    Please help...
I have a Mac Pro 4,1 Early 2009 running OS10.9.5.    In Feb'14 I installed a new graphics card, NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac. Lately, though, for about the past two months, my computer has suddenly restarted in the middle of a task. It restarts with a black screen. I'd then have to hard-restart my computer to bring my monitor back to life. When the Mac finishes starting up, I am greeted with what I understand to be a Kernal Panic report. This problem has been occurring more frequently now, which is prompting this post.
Typically, I've noticed that the restarting/crash would occur when I am doing video related things that seem to tax the system. So much so that my first thought was that my system was overheating? Yesterday, I observed that the crash occurred when playing video in a web browser, and it happened each time I tried transferring 30GB from a USB source to an external harddrive.
I performed a Hardware Test, short and extended, and everything came back as normal. I also uninstalled CUDA Drivers, but to no avail.
Then, I decided to remove the Quadro 4000 video card and put back in the original video card, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120.  My system has since been working well, as I was able to successfully transfer the 30GB that previously caused the system to crash.
So my question: Is my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 video card dead? Or, are the Kernal Panics a result of bad software, meaning I should reinstall the OS? What should I do next, as I need the Quadro card for it's cuda power in video editing?
    Thanks for the help!
Here are some Kernal Panic reports from yesterday...

Once the hexadecimal Addresses are edited out, it is easier to see that the problem was related to the display card. NVRM is the NVIDIA Display RAM on the card. It appears to have failed. This is not an issue with the Driver, but with the card.
Replacing that card with an old one and having the symptoms disappear supports that evidence.

  • Kernal Panic in OS 10.6 Server

I need help resolving a kernal panic in OS X Server on a MacPro. I disconnected all of my peripherals and restarted in hopes that it would clear with no luck. Now I am not sure what to do next. I have the original install disc but of course cannot get it into the computer. Apple support is closed. Any help will be appreciated.

As an update, I did everything it said to do in the Apple publication including zapping my PRAM with no results.

  • Kernal panics on macbook pro

Hi, thanks for letting me know that a.brody. I have had my macbook pro since late jan, not long after getting it back home to the uk as I bought it in the us I started having kernal panics, spoke to the apple care team they told me to archive and install and check permissions to no avail, spoke to them again today and the guy just said to re-install os x, don't really want to be doing that as I don't feel it will make any difference, have been reading on a few discussions and thought I would see if you could help, it seems to happen when I am using skype or Ichat, I've been in contact with skype and they advised me to reinstall but there shouldn't have been a problem anyway and is not something that they have had reported, since re-installing there seems to be no problems but this was only this afternoon, I'm running os x with all the latest updates, and have no unusual third party software could someone please take a look at my panic log and see if they can help, thanks : )

You've been advised to erase the drive and reinstall OS X to see if that fixes the problem. Until you do that there's really no point examining other alternatives.
If an Erase and Install doesn't resolve the problem then take the computer in for repair.
Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • Kernal panic after installing LR3- now after re-install,no privileges

    imac
    2.4 gHz
    300 HDD
    3G ram
I installed Lightroom 3 and in 64 bit mode it crashed the system with 'kernal panic'.
Managed to get it working in 32 bit (slowly) but was advised to re-install 10.5.8 as I was getting ACL found but not expected errors when I tried to repair permissions.
    I re-installed but now find I have no administrator privileges - so can't do any updates etc;
managed to do: Installer>Utilities>reset password - but it still says password is wrong.
I also had used Time Machine to back up my system : when I tried to restore, the restore button is greyed out - I can select on various items, but that is as far as I can get.
Am at my wits end - don't see why the re-install has caused this problem

If all else fails, you can reinstall Snow Leopard using the same installer disc you used to install it originally (or your grey system discs if your Mac came with Snow Leopard installed). This will not erase your user files but you will have to update the OS & Apple-supplied apps after the installation. This isn't as painful as it sounds if you use the Software Update app immediately following the first normal restart after the installation completes. Software Update is smart enough to pick the most appropriate update(s) to get your Mac back to the latest software, including automatically picking the Combo version of the OS updater if the installed version is more than one minor version behind the latest one.
In fact, given how slow a Time Machine restore can be, if you have a fast high speed Internet connection this could take less time & effort on your part than doing the TM restore. Plus, it guarantees that you get the latest versions of everything & that they are all properly linked.

This is the first time I have used the Forum and am hoping that someone can help. I'm having a huge issue with my iMac G5. I had iTunes playing two days ago and no other programmes open at the time. I left my desk for no more the 10 minutes and when I returned I had a message in four languages telling me to restart my computer. I have tried this but now when I try to turn on my iMac, the only screen I get now is the kernal panic and then the fans kick in really loud. Now comes the part where you sit there and shake your head at me! I have read that I should press the option key when turning the iMac back on, the only problem is, I don't know which is the option key!! If someone could let me know it would be much appreciated. Also any other advise would be great as I have no idea what to do.

    Hi RYork,
Which model of iMac G5 do you have? Is it:
    a) one of the original iMac G5's, sold new up til the beginninhg of May 2005,
    b) one of the "ALS" models , with a little "light sensor" bump on the back of the grill on the bottom edge of the computer, an inchor two to the right of the big "Apple" Logo, sold between late April and October, 2005, or
    c) one of the later models with a built in iSight camera, sold after October 12th, 2005?
THe first step here ideally involves resetting the SMU of the computer. The process differs depending on the model that you have. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733 for the two later models and dot point 2, paragraph 9 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300908 for the more complicated process for the original "first generation" model .
You should disconnect all peripherals other than your keyboard and mouse when troubleshooting this sort of problem. USB hubs and USB ADSL routers are particularly common causes of problems, so make sure you lose both of these especially hwile trying to find the problem. As you have indicated that you are suspicious of your keyboard you may even want to try restarting with it disconnected , too, after trying the SMU reset.
The option key is called the "alt" in the UK. Using this is only going to help if you have a second disc with an operating system to start from though. This could be the iMac G5 DVD that came with your computer, or an external firewire drive with a system installed on it.
If your computer is one of the "first generation" models mentioned above it is quite possible that you have a serious hardware problem. There is an "extension repair" program in place for these computers, even if they are out of warranty, because of the well known hardware problems, so check the details of the program at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302181 .
You say that your husband has a laptop, but you don't say whether it is an Apple or not. If it is then it may be possible to undertake some further troubleshooting using something called "Target Disk Mode", so let us know what it is.
But this keyboard has me worried first of all. If an SMU reset doesn't solve the problem, then disconnect EVERYTHING and see if the computer will now start up before going further down the troubleshooting path.
    Cheers
    Rod
