Hello,
I am hoping that I can get some help in understanding what might have gone wrong here to create the mass hanging of many apps as depicted in the attached image below.

Other notes that might help yuo help me.
Machine is an iMac with 16gig of RAM.
There are two partitions on the drive... one for the OS and one for users.
The OS has an 80gig Partition with 50% free space.
The User partition is much more with about 75% free space.
In the past I have noticed Photoshop to be using over 8gig of RAM so maybe it is photoshop.

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory. That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
If you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
1. Navigate to the %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
2. Copy any and all DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop and then zip up these files.
3. Upload the zip containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply. Prefered sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers.
4 (optional): The type of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel-Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference
between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel-Dumps in the simplest definition is a Kernel-Dump contains
much more information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel-Dump is the best
choice. Do note that Kernel-Dumps are much larger in size due to containing much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
If you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
Upload photos and files to Onedrive.
Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUp Utilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete .DMP files upon use.
If your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
1. Start > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
2. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all
drives'.
3. Windows key + Pause key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system
log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
4. Double check that the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than
Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click Apply.
If you cannot get into normal mode to do any of this, please do this via Safe Mode.

and without messing with /boot/grub/grub.cfg ?
I need this so that new kernels show up but do not change the default boot kernel
Is there a way to do it by file name instead of position within the menuentry / submenu list?
I found some ubuntu and fedora sugestions but all by position, none by name
AND how to set the kdump kernel as the default?
Arch is putting this kernel under a submenu - would this pose problems for setting it as the default?

In /etc/default/grub you can use the name of your entry you wish to use as default
GRUB_DEFAULT='Arch Linux, with Linux core repo kernel'
You can tell grub to stop using submenus by doing:
GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=y
Or you can just make a purely custom menuentry in /etc/grub.d/40_custom if you'd like:
menuentry "Other Linux" {
linux <KERNEL IMAGE HERE>
initrd <INITRD IMAGE HERE>

Virtual machine installation error: low memory for swapping file
WinXp SP2, 1G memory and 1536MB virtual page files. But why when I install java virtual machine, error occored : low memory for swapping file. And then the program closed automaticly. what happened??
Maybe too much stuff in memory? Close everything else before starting the install.

I learned that right from 10.7 Lion available, the default kernel mode is always set to 64bit no matter installed in MacBook White or Pro. I am wondering is it same for all future MacBook Air and Pro that come with 10.7 Lion will be set to 64bit kernel by default??
I really need a confirmation on this to support my future plan.

I just upgraded my mac book to 10.6.8 and downloaded the new version of itunes. When I try to open it and error message appears saying, "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder."
I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?Look in your Home > Music folder. There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl You want to guide iTunes to that file. If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

I can't open my Itunes keep receiving error message- The iTunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "i Tunes" folder in the "Music" folder. I have even tried removing and reinstalling iTunes and it still does work because I continue to receive this error message. Please Help!

Error while saving some default value in excel file
Hi,
I have been trying to accomplish a very simple task. I am trying to save values used in “PARAMETERS DESCRIBING PATH” of "Photo_Diode_N_Motors_DAQ" and want to reload the same values in “PD_Display_From_Spreadsheet”. There is a function named “Display to Motor” in “PD_Display_From_Spreadsheet” which will use four of those values namely y_intial, y_step_size, z_intial, z_step_size. Needless to say that I am not able to do successfully. Each time I am trying to run, I am getting following error:
“Error 1 occurred.
Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: An input parameter is invalid.
NI-488: Command requires GPIB Controller to be Controller in Charge.”
However, if I remove the part where I am saving those values, it works fine.
You may like to have look at frame 1 of "Photo_Diode_N_Motors_DAQ" as well as use of “Display to Motor” in “PD_Display_From_Spreadsheet”.

No problem about the help, I am glad to have helping you get rid of the problem! I think I see the dialog your are referring to now. Is it the one that asks the user to replace the file? If so, this is because when the file already exists, the default behavior of the File Open/Create/Replace funtion (used inside the Write to Spreadsheet File.vi) is to show "advisory dialogs." You can turn those off though, if you'd like, by wiring the boolean input within the Write to Spreadsheet File.vi. I have attached a version of that Write to Spreadsheet File with Advisory Selection.vi called, and used it in a new version of the test VI you sent. Together, they give the behavior of writting a file you choose (say MyFile.txt) with the front panel control, as well as a file named with _new appended to it (say MyFile_new.txt). By exposing the underlying advosory boolean, we can supress or expose such dialogs in all instances you wish.
Was that the dialog problem? Try the VIs attached in the zip file!

I am running Windows XP on a lab top for a while. Just recently, every time I opened PDF files, I was getting an empty page. So, I installed the latest Adobe Reader. After that I started getting the error message "There was an error processing a page. A file I/O error has occurred".
Does anybody have a solution to this?
Thanks in advance.I found my problem. My down scale quits, but quits as in not showing it's working. (I was confused too). Most all files can not be seen until fully downloaded. For whatever reason, perhaps a glitch or the new modum or video card. When downloading do not interupt as in wanting to view a page, but go to Network and Sharing Center (bottom right hand corner - click the computer running symbol) and click View Status. See Activity. If the numbers are rolling you are recieving. Waiting until it is complete. This is madding, but I've learned to live with it.

This is usually done in an .XML or other configuration file based on the particular web application container you are using.
For example, in Tomcat Java Container, its the following parameter in the /conf/web.xml file:
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>index.html</welcome-file>
<welcome-file>index.htm</welcome-file>
<welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
You will need to look at the documentation for your server container.

My MacBook (late 2009 Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) often runs VERY slow...beach ball of death frequently. My page ins (3.29GB), page outs (5.64BG), and swap files (10GB) seem extremely high in comparison to most other discussions in here. I don't know how to copy the pie chart so it shows on here but here's what it says right now:
Free - 176 MB
Wired - 592MB
Active - 843MB
Inactive - 432MB
Used - 1.82 GB
VM size - 198GB
The page ins and page outs have 0 bytes/sec in the parenthesis even though the numbers are so high.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!You difinately need more ram. 2gb is the bare minimum to run just the Lion OS, anything extra will slow your Mac to a crawl. Upgrade to 8gb from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com/ or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/

Customizing EBS Oracle Help - "404 File Not Found" Default page
All,
I am wondering if someone could explain to me how the Oracle EBS Application Help works. For example, we have a custom form where we do not have a Help Page defined for the form so it sends me to a default page that says the following:
"404 NOT FOUND"
An error occurred while retrieving Oracle Applications Help information.
Help target US/********* could not be found.
My question is, when I clicked the Help icon, what happens after this? It would typically find the correct Lang/Application/Form and reference a page within that directories APPL_TOP/help directory. But when the page is not found something knows to send it to the specific oracle default 404 Not Found page. Anyone know how this happens?
Forgot to mention I am running on EBS R12.
